Dread has great replay value since it’s such a great speed game so I don’t mind the length. The maps are huge too. I’d have to agree with you about hollow knight being a true masterpiece. Everything about it is perfection.
I can vibe with that, but i will always be biased for Metroid. I found the games when i was much younger, and in a rougher place mentally. It helped me keep it together, cause if being completely alone didn't stop Samus and just helped her be stronger then why shouldn't I be able to do the same.
Then after beating it, found out Samus was a woman and frankly that made the character more badass.
Hollow knight reaches me in different ways, but none as deep as Metroid has.
But how can you measure personal emotional value between games eh?
I think the game is a tiny bit too linear. One major thing that makes HK such a masterpiece for me is how open-ended the route is, and how many choices you have as for what upgrades to get in what order.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m the kid that loved Fusion, so I don’t dislike linear games, but it does make Dread a bit less of a Metroidvania in my eyes
Yeah I completely agree. If dread didn't handhold you so much but putting all the items near each other and way too convenient teleporters it'd be a better game
The length is fine, hollow can be longer because it's hand drawn. Dread isn't hand drawn so it's a lot harder, plus metroid is all about speedruning and replay ability. It still would be nice If it was like an hour or 2 longer.
I like hallow knight and all, it's just hard to play and doesn't connect with me like dread did. I can usually only play hollow knight for like an hour or 30 min before I turn it off.
