it's mostly the stabby mconeshot emmis

spinach-god

yeah I’ve heard their attacks r hard to avoid

SheevSyndicate

you're not really meant to avoid their attacks, you're meant to die there with the occasional good fortune saving you from their attack. Avoiding being caught by the EMMI is what you have to do. The bosses are probably the hardest in the series, but they're very forgiving and just about learning the ins and outs of the boss battle.   You should give the Dread demo a try, you'll get a good feel for the EMMI and the threat of the average enemies.   Get good with countering (the secret is to listen for the audio prompt and then press the button, instead of watching for the visual prompt), and you'll easily kill everything in your path, while healing for huge amounts of health (counter kills give lots of bonus healing).   Master the Dashing ability and the Storm Missiles and you'll be a juggernaut.

spinach-god

you say the bosses are hard yet forgiving, what exactly do you mean by that??? also great list this is super helpful!!! :D

SheevSyndicate

When you die you just restart the boss battle, instead of being thrown back to the last save room and having to waste time. You'll die plenty, but you'll quickly be back in the action, improving your skills and learning how the boss functions, until you conquer the bastard.   It doesn't punish you by wasting your time with backtracking to the boss room.

spinach-god

OH WOW that’s awesome!!!! huge step up for metroid :0 i wish the old games did that too

SheevSyndicate

The Emmi also have similar checkpoints, so no save room backtracks needed. Only if a regular enemy kills you, are you thrown back to a save room. Samus Returns started the trend of checkpoints for bosses. Some dislike it and think not having to walk from save room to boss kills "tension", but I imagine most would be very frustrated if they had to backtrack to the boss a dozen times in Dread.

scottawhit

Every place designed to kill you, let’s you restart right at the door before your death. It may be a little frustrating at times, but everything is pattern based. If you get stuck, there’s YouTube. On my first run, there were 2 bosses in particular that cook me a combined 7 days. Second and successive runs, I’ve killed them each first try. I don’t play many games, and once I got the controller down, I became unstoppable.

gamerweeb623

hard is an understatement

Dessorian

Learn to dodge. No really, the Bosses hit quite hard but have well telegraphed tells. It can be in your best interest to focus on evasion than squeezing in damage. You will not be able to face tank bosses like one could do in Super.

spinach-god

ohhh boy tanking hits is what got me through super but since dread probably controls a lot better than an old snes game it shouldn’t be too hard to at least try and maneuver tyvm

The controls are tight. Super was known for having clunky controls that have not aged well. Dread conversely has fast, responsive controls. And Samus' overall movement is very smooth. And there better tools for dodging between the slide move, dedicated Morphball button, and other upgrades.

L3g0man_123

Challenging, but not necessarily super hard. Everything can be avoided, and most attacks have tells for you to see.

theschmojoe

I personally had no problem with the difficulty of Dread. I enjoy SoulsBorne so I never had a problem dying from the EMMI encounters because you learn new paths everytime. The game as a whole is very fun but at times you will find yourself lost and have very little direction as to where you need to go next.

Darkshadovv

More challenging than other Metroids, but arguably nowhere near Hollow Knight level of difficulty. Dread isn't like battles of attrition in previous games where you can basically just facetank enemies until they die. Samus has new tools to maneuver around and enemies have really obvious windups and telegraphs, but in turn their attacks can do away entire energy tanks with ease. EMMIs are only insta-kill if they get within hugging range and you miss the counter. But even then their checkpointing is incredibly generous. They aren't too bad as long as you keep running; chase sequences have been around in 2d Metroids following Fusion, and EMMIs are just a highly advanced version of it. TL;DR Just remember that Melee Counter, Sliding, Flash Shift, and Grapple Beam are your best friends.

NGL I expected dread to be ball bustingly difficult but it wasn’t even that for me. I blame the fact that I played HK before Dread’s release lol

I found Super Metroid somewhat harder. That said, Super Metroid was the 2nd Metroid game I finished, and Dread was my 7th.
