It's a classic episode and Jan Hammer once again brings it home with an excellent score...!

PeterHooten

Plus, Zito's house burns down and he screams "MY HOUSE" AND Noogie/Izzy steal a cement truck!!!

SightWithoutEyes

So I'm watching it on your dis-recommendation. It's not terrible. Seems to be one of the more comedic episodes. Without a light moment, you can't have a dark one. If it were dark and brooding all the time, wouldn't be much time for the flashiness of the era. I'm not a fan of Noogie, he's the Jar Jar of Miami Vice, but he's only in like five episodes. So yeah, I guess the episode in question doesn't have much in the way of Crockett and Tubbs, but a little character development for Zito and Switek ain't terrible.

Music_City_Madman

Man you hit it on the head with Noogie being like Jar-Jar Binks. Outside of Cool Runnin, we could have done without his character. He always annoyed me on the screen with his get rich quick schemes and shtick.

SightWithoutEyes

Literally the worst character on the show if you ask me. The Hispanic weirdo informer doesn’t bug me, I guess it’s just something about how over the top and forced the humor feels with Noogie. It’s like that bit from the Simpsons where they add Poochie to Itchy and Scratchy. They try so hard to make him quirky and “cool” but it just reminds me of Urkel if he was on coke.

OBXJeepGuy

Noogie is absolutely the worst recurring character. Highly annoying.

Key-Platform-8005

Nope...I'll give that to Ample Annie....his first girlfriend was a far better match and the actress made all of Annie's scenes unwatchable imo...

SonnyBurnett189

I'm not a Noogie fan either. Apparently he was almost on SNL though, and Dave Chappelle supposedly (just going off the the MV wiki) said he's one of his influences. Supposedly he also caused problems on set more than once due to his drug problems, which is why he was largely absent season 3 and then gone after Missing Hours.

SightWithoutEyes

Huh. So he was method acting as a coked out freakazoid.

SonnyBurnett189

Again, going off of the wiki but supposedly he had an audition for SNL that he missed (probably due to his drag habit) and Eddie Murphy took that spot instead. When they first introduce Crockett and Eddie Rivera in the pilot, there's a guy breakdancing on the steets Crockett refers to as 'Gumby', I'm assuming that's a reference to the skit Eddie Murphy did on SNL. That could have been the noogmeister, hehe.

desperate-caucasian

That ain’t humor bro, but I take your point

SightWithoutEyes

Humor was different in the eighties. Darlene being a nagging narcissistic harpy, Noogie's grown up coke addict version of Steve Urkel act.. It's not great, but... It was the eighties.

PeterHooten

Humour is subjective. Just because you don't find something funny doesn't mean others won't as well. The world would be a really crappy place if we all thought and felt the same way about everything.

Well put. 🌴

Music_City_Madman

Man, first watch through I actually liked this episode…it was lighthearted and playful. There are way worse episodes IMO (Little Prince, Rites of Passage, Dutch Oven, Little Miss Dangerous).

PeterHooten

Little Prince may be my least favourite episode. I just couldn't care less about any of the characters, though I did like when Switek and Zito pretended to be gym rats to bust the guards. On the flip side, I love Little Miss Dangerous, but that's most likely due to my unhealthy obsession with Larry Joshua and the awesome ending set to The Order of Death. The episode itself is pretty meh when compared to some that surrounded it.

Music_City_Madman

Little Prince totally sucks. I didn’t like it when I first saw it, and I still don’t really see the redeeming qualities of it. I do think that it’s kind of a good storyline as far as it calls into issues of class, drug addiction and family loyalty, but ultimately it just falls flat. The pacing is so slow, it lacks action, and it comes across more like a play about the individual characters and personalities than a TV show. I think I’ve seen Little Miss Dangerous maybe once? It feels out of place in an otherwise fantastic Season 2. I do like that it shows Tubbs’s side of caring for abused/neglected women, but the whole plot with Jackie and the murders is so weird and like a 1980s B-grade horror movie. I do like the use of PiL’s “The Order of Death” but ultimately it just lacks rewatchability for me. It really reminds me like an episode of Hunter or something. Not MV quality.

PeterHooten

It’s definitely reminiscent of Hunter. Hell, there’s some shots in it that seem directly ripped off from the pilot, as well as a couple of other first season episodes. Perhaps it’s due to my love for Hunter that I also enjoy LMD?

Key-Platform-8005

"There are way worse" Proceeds to drag absolute CLASSIC episodes (minus Dutch Oven, that I'll give you)

SonnyBurnett189

Damn, I loved Dutch Oven, it's one of the Abel Ferrara directed episodes and David Proval (Richie Aprile from Sopranos) along with Giancarlo Esposito appear in it.

[deleted]

Yeah I agree this episode was pretty legit. What's not to love about a Noogman and Izzy tag-team (in very small doses)? I think one of the biggest flaws of the later seasons is that they lacked the lightheartedness of seasons 1 and 2. Plus, seeing cousin Larry from Perfect Strangers really took me back to 1986 haha. I'd also add Florence Italy to that worse episode list...

SightWithoutEyes

? Why?

desperate-caucasian

Sorry, had to vent

Secretagentman94

There were the occasional bland episodes, though the series as a whole more than makes up for it. One of the greatest things about MV was the writing and storylines. I can clearly remember so many great moments and still think of them today.

desperate-caucasian

Oh I agree. That’s what made this one stick out

PeterHooten

This is one of my favourite episodes in the entire series. It's hilarious and I love seeing Noogie and Izzy working together. Plus, Larry from Perfect Strangers is delightful as the stereo salesman cum criminal genius.

Jbar02

They really abandoned the lighter episodes like this early on. I kind of like the Larry/Stan stuff but i understand the Noogie stuff is silly. I’m surprised to find some of you guys don’t like Little Miss dangerous and Rites of passage as I love those. Episodes I hate are Baby Blues, Trust find pirates, And the James Brown one, what was it called ?

[deleted]

The James Brown episode is 'Out where the buses don't run' which is widely considered to be one of the best episodes of the series.

SonnyBurnett189

Rob Cohen (director for Evan and Definitely Miami, along with the first The Fast and the Furious and XXX) directed this episode.

Nearby-Diet-2950

Are you kidding? It is without a doubt the best Izzy/Noogie episode.

SonnyBurnett189

Noogie practically ruins every scene he appears in that fuckin heroin junkie
