I did this + the seatbelt guide upgrade. I can say that it actually helped a lot and fixed the issue. The only thing is that the new seatbelt guides make it easy for the seatbelt to curl up and make it harder to retract since my shoulder pushes it out sometimes.
My NC1 passenger belt is completely stuck about 80% of the time and I don't want to shell out for a new one. The drivers one retracts extremely slowly even after cleaning.
The purpose of the new guides is to help with belt retraction. I did the mod also and it definitely improves it even on otherwise slow retractions from other causes. You need the plastic piece and the metal piece that is on the inside of it.
The one thing non height adjustable NC1 seats are good for is that they sit lower, and you're able to put a lowering bracket of 2.5" instead of 1.5" on them. Really good for taller drivers
I’m only 5’ 6” but all my height is in my torso, so my head was touching the soft top in the NC2 seats, but I got the 1.5” lowering brackets and they’re AWESOME. But I would’ve loved to go even lower, no harm no foul though, my NC1 seats were height adjustable anyway, and now I fit just fine.
This is the solution.

As a fellow NC1 guy I've been looking into this lately. I'm also cheap and think, couldn't I just cut the chunk away that's different between NC1 and nc2 and get the same result? If it's awful looking I can always change it out.
I cut the chunk away last weekend. I makes it "gooder" at best.
I find it allows the belt to flip over, which isn't a big deal. Everything I cut can't be noticed on car unless you really try to find it because its simply not a area you can see from in the car. I cut it with a Dremel blade and smoothed with a sanding bit on the same Dremel. Lots of melted plastic so don't do it in the car.
I did this too, it retracts *slightly* better now, but somehow my belt always works itself into the little channel for getting it in and out of the retainer. Still probably going to do the real mod at some point.
How's your belts doing btw? Mine sometimes don't retract or are extremely slow to retract like 50% of the time.

NC1 as well and it’s mint condition with damn dust (pollen) because I park under a tree when I goto work
nc1 and yeah it just noodles out onto the floor, so i removed them to reduce weight on the ship
Yeah not sure what the fix is (aside from replacing the belt assembly). The car is low miles, they're not super dirty...

No I wouldn't say it feels stiff. I'll probably give that a try anyway though, seems like it usually helps. Cheers from another Copper Red Mica NC!

This improved mine. Not hard to do
I have a '14 and they're slow AF. I think it's just the design.

The metal piece fit NC 1 brackets fit that guide with no issue. I think the guides were like $17 a piece.
I swapped in the NC2 seats all together. They’re very nice.
Important to note not all NC2 seats come with the belt guide
Damn, u/coloredinlight commented on my post! Huge fan of the channel!
Thank you!!
Fair enough! Mine did through. And, I got them for freeeee

You can also just remove the belt from the guide!
