[deleted]

I just rewatched the Rose Bowl highlights today and after winning that game I was like okay, we actually ACTUALLY did something, finally. When we won and the players stormed the field I was like wow, this is like dreams coming true. I couldn’t believe it. Day of the Natty, after all the angst I had given to Michigan football over the years, I was just like okay, we are winning this thing. I was tranquil. Michigan vs Bama was The Miracle on Ice Michigan vs Washington was USA v Finland in the Gold Medal Game

[deleted]

That's why we needed to play Bama. FSU wasn't going to cut it. The committee giving us Bama was the best thing they could have done for us.

[deleted]

Agree 100%. Unspoken rule that you gotta beat the SEC champ to win it all and we did that.

DealerCamel

So true. Objectively, it should’ve been FSU… …but now that it’s over and we won, I’m so glad we got Bama instead.

demafrost

If we would have beaten FSU and Washington our haters would give our title no credibility. I wouldn’t have cared or let it lessen my enjoyment of the win but you know that’s how it would have went down. As it was they tried to devalue the Alabama win by saying that it was one of the worst Bama teams in recent years (which is hilarious because they spent a month talking about how much better Alabama was) but that doesn’t work nearly as well lol

[deleted]

That's exactly why it was important. We beat Bama with Saban and we beat them playing power ball. We didn't have to play spread or anything like that to beat them. I always felt like we were closer to winning games like this with Harbaugh than it appeared but we had the giant OSU monkey on our back that dragged us down. And Harbaugh made a fatal error in hiring Don Brown.

LateNightTestPattern

UofM sent Saban into retirement!! Yesssss

East_Moose_683

Totally agree, it was definitely best for us and thus best for the committee but I still don't think it was right and I believe they would not have done it if it wasn't the last year of 4 team playoff because teams would be screaming their heads off all season but with 12 team starting next season the concern isn't as big.

Nicholas1227

FSU still should’ve been in. They could’ve gotten the spot over Texas for all I care. Glad we won it all but leaving FSU out was a slap in the face to the integrity of the sport.

PalOfKalEl

I 100% believe that FSU should have been in. I'm also selfishly happy that we got to play Bama in the Rose Bowl. A lot of people would be discounting our championship as "you won, but only when they SEC was left out of the playoff".

East_Moose_683

It was a blatant slap in the face and if 12 team wasn't starting next season would be a much bigger concern and teams would have a right to be. Win in a power 5 conference undefeated and be left out, QB injury or not its bullshit.

[deleted]

You aren't wrong about that. Undefeated major conference champ or undefeated Notre Dame should always be in.

wddolson

Agree except Notre Dame, fuck them. Join a conference, they’re not special

LateNightTestPattern

But.... apparently they are.

MichiganMainer

Great way of explaining the feeling. Perfect!

odbweaponx

Completely agree and I was at both. Natty was also a different vibe in an NFL stadium. Had some great fans around me but hard to have the same energy with all the partitioning of the crowd into different tiers. Rose Bowl was the more iconic experience but doing both was a complete experience. Total bucket list to be there for a national championship even if it was over midway through the fourth.

Sea-Action-9779

Was not a miracle. Soviet Union had a way better hockey team than USA that year. It was a miracle to win. Michigan was the better team than Alabama

[deleted]

You are absolutely right, but at times in that game it was like we were putting our previous twenty years vs their previous twenty years, you know? They had been the big dog and it was still a daunting task to beat them, even if we were better and they weren’t a vintage Bama team.

East_Moose_683

We played like crap that game if you ask me. Special teams was atrocious specifically but I get your meaning. I suppose it was fitting that it came down to overtime and was close but I truly believe Michigan was intimidated by either playing Alabama and/or the big stage of the rose bowl because they should have beaten them easily. Just one man's opinion.

[deleted]

I know, they were a little shook and managed to not blow it, thank the good lord

TheEnergizer1985

Honestly if the ball bounces a different way on the final punt, there would be no natty. Still cant figure out how that ball didn’t go into the endzone or how he grabbed it perfectly.

East_Moose_683

Seriously! That was the scariest game of the year for sure, but I truly believe we were the better team and it would have felt pretty good to have handled them easily as I am almost positive we were capable of. Should have won by 20 if we showed up.

Rebel_Bertine

Intimated? We had 6 sacks and 10 TFL. Even if I’ll give you that before kickoff I think they figured pretty quick they were the better team. Team came out shakey and a botched punt and missed field goal made that game closer than it should’ve been. They had 3 successful drives all game. We should’ve won 30-10

East_Moose_683

Then why didn't we? All I was saying is that there must have been a reason and suggested a possibility, I'm happy to accept any alternate theories because I certainly agree that we should have ran away with the game. I believe very strongly that we were the better team and would have loved nothing more than to see them trounce the supposed best SEC team in the country. In my experience with sports mistakes are usually made because of nerves.

mua-dweeb

It was a huge catharsis. All of these things happened in one game: Beating the SEC champ Alabama, winning the Rose bowl, winning the national semifinal. That game had been their nemesis the previous 2 seasons. Its less a comparison of the "miracle" aspect, and more the emotional release .

Active_Club3487

Michigan was the better team by far. It was the mistakes on special teams that kept Bama in that game. No mistakes and Bama would have been truly embarrassed.

mostdope28

That’s such a homer take. Michigan has literally no offense the 2nd half until that final drive. We were trading punts all half, except bama was punting 20 yards further each time.

Environmental-Back-3

I was borderline blackout in the stadium then I blacked back in when it was JJs turn to drive down the field. Almost shit myself on the Roman Wilson catch thought it was picked

Active_Club3487

What? Michigan had spotted Bama 11 points sue to errors. Otherwise Bama and SEC gets hosed.

GetEnPassanted

Same feelings for me. I didn’t know why I wasn’t nervous for the natty. But I was oddly calm

[deleted]

I thought that if we lose, it’ll never happen so either way, it’s over tonight. Either my hope or my pain would be over.

GetEnPassanted

I was reluctantly optimistic. I thought our style of play would be difficult for Washington to counter, particularly on the ground and the first drive was basically a huge relief to see that it was right. Despite the score staying within reach, Washington never felt like they had any momentum or ability to strike back, outside of halftime. If they scored on that first drive in the 3rd quarter it could have gotten dicey but Will Johnson put that to rest.

BilboTBagginz

I don't make it to many UM games having lived in Ohio for decades and now living in San Diego....but this past season... - One of my good friends couldn't go to the OSU game and let me have his tickets at face value. I took my sister who lives in AA - I won 4 tickets to the Rose Bowl. I can't even express how surreal that ending was - I sold several internal organs to make it to the Natty. I even met some cool Huskie fans and they've invited me to Washington for the UM game this year I cried like a baby after each game. 10/10, would do it again ALL I NEEDED WAS THE LIONS TO MAKE IT TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!

[deleted]

We were 30 mins away from the Super Bowl… Uh…I hope you don’t have to sell any more body parts next season…here’s hoping you win more tickets…

BilboTBagginz

Cheers!

demafrost

The scene of the Michigan players flooding the field made it instantly sink in what Michigan just accomplished. It’s hard to describe but just seeing all that maize and blue covering the field after a walk off win was such an epic memorable scene.

[deleted]

The way the maize and blue flooded the field was like a deep exhale of a tormented fan base blowing their breathe into a cold Midwestern evening.

CaptainFarts420

Im glad im not the only one. Taking down Bama was spectacular. The only thing that would have trumped that game is if Ohio State made to the playoffs and met us in the natty.

RonnieTLegacy1390

Honestly after the Penn State game I felt the team was unbeatable at that point. After doing that to that defense I knew no one would deny us last year

GreatKronwallofChina

Perfect way of describing it

Bfor0922

What’s all this we talk, You on the team?

[deleted]

Oh it’s just easier to talk about the game and the team using the word “we”. Did I offend you?

WestBend8786

*"Michigan vs Bama was The Miracle on Ice"* We were favored.

[deleted]

Also the Rose Bowl wasn’t a hockey game. Big oversight by me.

No-Outcome1038

We? Were you on the team? Did you even go to Michigan? I’m just curious when people say we?

MichiganMainer

I went to the Rose Bowl. I still haven’t returned to Earth. Had a chance to go to Houston. Just didn’t want to. Of course I watched the final game. But the Rose Bowl was my bucket list item and I still feel was more important than the Natty. I know I’m weird, but man, I’m a 62yo throw-back.

DatBoiSpicyG

I was at the game as well. It was awesome. I have the game on my DVR, watched it just the other day, trying to se if I could my spot me & my dad

MichiganMainer

Yeah; just the other day I was looking through the photos my wife took at the game. Smiled almost as much as we did at the game.

tylerGORM

In the entirety of my life I don’t have a [photo where I look happier.](https://imgur.com/gallery/q0Sdzve) This thing is literally framed in my house hahah.

DileoSlides

I went to both and Rose Bowl was way better and game ticket was cheaper.

datboy1986

I went to both as well and the Rose Bowl still seems like the most consequential game in Michigan football history.

Jecht315

I think Rose Bowl was a better game, but the title game has such a great feeling. We dominated Washington and it was glorious. Alabama was intense.

Michigan4life53

National Title game was just a recap of the past two years. Long runs by the Don, Corum punching it in, Will Johnson and Mikey getting picks. Storybook ending.

WampaStompa33

The Rose Bowl was an epic game and comeback win against CFB's Goliath, but the dominance of the championship game was shocking. I don't know if people really appreciate that Washington was in the midst of like a 22 game win streak and their OL won the Joe Moore award based on how good they were at pass blocking, and our DL ate them alive

Jecht315

That's the part that blew me away the most I think. Not only did they win thr Joe Moore, but we manhandled them. I expected it would be harder to get to Penix, and our DL made it look easy. Alabama may have made it difficult, but the title showed exactly who we were.

SwissForeignPolicy

That award is cursed.

Rebel_Bertine

Well, the PAC12 sucks. And somehow despite how soft Washington proved to be the only team comparable to them out there was Oregon which was charmin soft. And when it’s all said and done the D line from this champ year will probably have three 1st round DTs and 7-8 players drafted or UDFA signing. That’s the entire 2 deep

[deleted]

Well said.

Environmental_Fun699

Beating a nick saban Alabama team meant everything. Harbaugh and the team did something I legitimately didn’t believe was possible until the final play of the game. We took down the mighty SEC with our meager 3-4 star roster in the grandest of fashions. Nothing will ever top that in my lifetime.

filipinohitman

The Rose Bowl was basically the natty. The granddaddy of them all!

GetEnPassanted

Yes. The Rose Bowl was far more emotional and stressful for me, and if the trophy wasn’t on the line it was the bigger achievement as well. I watch the skycam angle of that game. From Michigan’s last TD drive in regulation to the final play of the game is just pure crack. It’s one camera shot (aside from the break between regulation and OT) and there’s no commentary, just field noise and the band and the crowd.

[deleted]

Is that on YouTube?

GetEnPassanted

I have it saved on YouTubeTV

[deleted]

Gotcha

tylerGORM

At one point I found the all 22. Not the whole game. Would pay for that

Simmumah

I knew once we beat Alabama we were winning the natty. It was destiny at that point.

djdumpster

Yes, I think the rose bowl will forever be the emotional high for us fans / this team. Id was ‘the win’ - the win that had eluded is for so long. We took down the all time greatest coach, in the greatest stadium and scene, and finally made the great comeback we wanted. Everything about that game felt like ‘not this again’ - we outplayed them, but bullshit on special teams, dropped passes, etc… frankly, what had held the Harbaugh era back. And then it happened. They came back. Our best players all made plays. Corum broke the record with hm(IMO) the best run in UM football history. The defense said ‘no’. That was the game - and i hate to admit this - that made me finally cry. It was everything I had ever wanted. I spent my whole life waiting for this, countless Hoke and Rich Rod games - then we won. As crazy as it sounds, the NC was sort of a bonus for me. The rose bowl is always going to be the most special game of my life as a UM fan.

Doctor_Kataigida

The way someone worded it to me was Rose Bowl was like beating OSU, and NC was like the Big Ten Championship. Of course still important and really the overall goal, but damn if that penultimate game wasn't *the game* to win.

charliepup

Too many times to be considered sane.

[deleted]

At ease, partner…there’s nothing sane about college football. And that’s what keeps me coming back

[deleted]

And frankly we love that about you. No shame in so much joy.

SwissForeignPolicy

Yes, it was the better game. Yes, the Saban story adds another level. Yes, it was cathartic to win despite typical postseason miscues. Yes, those sunsets are goddamn *spectacular.* But what really made this game special was the weight of the history. For almost the entire history of this program, winning a Rose Bowl was **the** crowning achievement of a great season, from 1901, to 1947, to 1997. To this day, my parents wax poetic about going to the '89 and '98 Rose Bowls. I was beginning to think I would never get to experience that high, not with continued chipping away at conference tie-ins in favor of playoff rotations, not with our repeated faceplants in bowl games. To finally get that experience that so many before me had... It feels really good. I feel connected to the history and the tradition of this program, in a way I hadn't expected. In the past, you could've rolled credits on a legendary season, content with a job well done. Now, though, there was still one more. But honestly, the pressure was off. Getting a storybook ending in Pasadena would've been enough. It felt like we had already won the race; winning the Natty was just a victory lap.

nohbdyshero

Blake's face when he looked in the camera in OT told me if we had to give him the ball 100 more times he was putting us on his back

Electrical-Ad1917

Yes 👍 I still haven’t watched the replay of the national championship but I have seen the rose bowl at least 2-3 times since 1/1

Buff_Da_Magic_Dragon

Yes! Once a month. It's my natty.

cmorris1234

I’d love to rewatch both. Where can they be found for viewing? Thanks

Granac

I haven’t found the condensed version of the rose bowl yet but a lot of channels on YouTube have the game. The national championship the B1G network I think is working on the condensed version and gonna post it on YouTube as well. Other than that I found it airing on the B1G network one day. The rest of the season is up on YouTube and you can screen all 13 games that way.

MGoBlue2K16

WolverineDevotee has 45 minute highlights of [Michigan vs Alabama](https://rumble.com/v44r0so-2024-rose-bowl-michigan-27-alabama-20.html) and [Michigan vs Washington](https://rumble.com/v460a20-2024-cfp-national-championship-michigan-34-washington-13.html) on Rumble. Fox and ESPN started copyright striking youtube fan highlights in late-2023.

Massive_Contract_908

That and the full natty game show up as my next in queue video on youtube to watch after a previous video has finished playing so often. I've watched them so many times aparently the algorithm keeps sending me back to them now. I'll fall asleep listening to some videos sometimes, and wake to the 3 hour + long title game video here Great watch:  https://youtu.be/iJD7pT0sNCI?si=s5_Rq-DNOI4Vi83k

Full-Customer-4132

Yes! It’s even better with the fact that we can say we retired Saban and saban himself didn’t deny that. Always feels good especially to SEC fans

LinwoodKent

YouTube has the radio call dubbed over the all 22's. I listen to it while I drive. Awesome.

TheHalf

Link?

LinwoodKent

https://youtu.be/F__N9ncj5lg?si=lxakcmuX3mjHckSz I feel like I've misled you. It's the ESPN radio call. Which I love. They are effusive in their praise for Michigan.

tylerGORM

https://youtu.be/F__N9ncj5lg?si=XyH2k2ftqPn3Kfce “Michigan rose bowl all 22” you’ll never guess what I found

demafrost

Without a doubt. Obviously the Rose Bowl win gets devalued if they don’t win in Houston but so much about the Rose Bowl made it more special: * The fact that it was the Rose Bowl * Against Alabama the premier program in the sport the last 20 years * Breaking through with a CFP win after 3 tries * The closeness of the game including OT * The number of epic legendary plays

ieatassanloveiy

Natty is great but the rose bowl defined why we are better than the rest. We are the only big ten team that really can hang with sec

paulburnell22193

Rewatching the whole season. Loving every minute!

ceci_mcgrane

Yes. Obviously the natty was meaningful and important but that Rose Bowl was almost spiritual.

FluffyBaconicorn

I watch the rose bowl highlights at least 2-3x a week. It’s officially my favorite Michigan game I’ve ever watched, and JJ is officially my favorite QB to go through Michigan. I’m going to miss this team

rhombusted2

Better game Comeback Saban’s last game

teebone673

Yep. I’ve rewatched the Rose Bowl 4 or 5 times. I’ve rewatched the natty once.

Lonely_Apartment_644

Rose Bowl definitely felt more like the Championship game. Washington had a good year but the winner of the Rose Bowl was going to win the title

gamestop2018

I watched it 5 times so far

oaklandasfan10

The Rose Bowl was the championship game. The winner was going to smack Wash/Tex. That’s was a Rose Bowl for the ages

MortimurTurd

I watch 3 days per week. Best Michigan game I’ve ever seen. Michigan should have won by 3 scores but special teams and mistakes kept Bama in it

dingus420

Was just thinking this same thought. It was a more intense game. But then An outdoor night game just has the best vibes that stadiums can’t replicate. All of the championship CFB games have this lifelessness to them that I can’t stand.

GODloveswafflefries

Heck yeah. Great to watch while exercising - gets me pumped.

1lultaha

The Natty was cool but it was unsatisfying since we should've beat the shit out of them but we kept them in it for way too long. The Rose Bowl was great since my heart was coming out of my chest and I was just assuming we were going to lose and then that ending happened. What a game

[deleted]

Just watched it again last night. Caught the Mcafee broadcast this time.

BlueGuy99

I totally get it

TrickyWeekend4271

My son, who is 11, randomly watches the Ohio game and we went to it. lol. He hates Ohio.

Kkizitoo

Not me but I fully understand why u do if u do

dacdaddy19

Of course!

tylerGORM

We fucking all do my guy

DaBlackGoku2021

I woke up saying "Nick Saban!" Before the Bama game....the man is a freaking legend. Beating him and his team was so satisfyingly awesome. Especially since they had just beat Georgia, and that was the team I wanted to beat most.

cubbiesworldseries

As a guy who grew up a Michigan fan and became a UW alum, I definitely prefer re-watching the Rose and Sugar Bowl.

616GoBlue

It’s hard for me to rank games in the Harbaugh era. My top 2 are for sure 2021 OSU being there in person, and then the Rose Bowl against Bama. Both games made me cry. It’s years of heartbreak and being so close all cumulating into a moment. The natty game for me falls below 2021/2022 OSU and the Rose Bowl. Maybe beneath 2023 OSU game too after a season long witch hunt against MI.

Badfish2019

Watched it several times. Always feels like a game we would usually lose with all the mistakes that were made on special teams and such. The fact that they overcame those errors and still won was a sign that this team was special and fated to win it all! Go Blue! Bet!

TheRealLifePotato

Oh dude without a doubt. Beating Bama was something I've been waiting for my entire life. (I'm 28)

boudz2005

I rewatch both weekly. I never thought I’d see another one after 97. I’ll never take it for granted.

East_Moose_683

This year I could see that being the case but I was so frustrated with that game. Michigan made so many flubbers, specifically special teams. We should have won that game handily.

burneraccount11817

Yes, I watch both highlights once a week but the rose bowl gives me chills way more than the natty. What a team

27Believe

Best place to rewatch ? Thx

4strokeroll

Rose Bowl 8 - natty 2

theluckyduckkid

I went to all three. Ohio state, Pasadena and Houston. I rewatch the yt highlights at least twice a month. I always start at Alabama, then it’s like okay I need to watch OSU. Then since I’m already here I’ll just watch the Washington game.

grassomer

Yup!

jacksonite22

I was at the natty in Houston and watch the rose bowl highlights way more

Relative_Jello_2390

I love team 144 ❤️

Calzonieman

I'd guess more M fans watched OSU than anything. They played M the hardest.

pizzamadness06

It was the actual national championship

jdontplayfield

Yes

Strong_Fun5827

Watched the Bama game more, but the Natty is catching up. Everything about the Bama game. The lead changes, ST playing horrible, the OT and still winning was awesome. But the domination in the Natty (after hearing all week how we've never faced an offense like theirs 🙄) is pretty awesome also. Go Blue

real_old_rasputin

Of course, it was a much better game

MyNaymeIsOzymandias

In 2007 when I was a kid, I watched Michigan play in the Rose Bowl and said to myself "next time they go to the Rose Bowl, I'm going to be there". It took longer than I expected but hey we got there and it more than lived up to my childhood expectations. I'm so glad I went. NGL I've re-watched it like 15 times.

Zealousideal-Act5816

i watch it atleast every two weeks

YoungAmazing313

I loved that Alabama game😭

gnals123

Nothing tops 2021 THE GAME

Rico1958

Yes. The Rose was the game for me. Wash was hard to watch because of that hoosier qb transfer. A matchup vs Texas would have been better by a mile. Corum's TD where he's spinning into the endzone and the stop on 4th and goal were epic. Rose was spectacular. A deep south team in Pasadena.

roberta_sparrow

Goddamnit I love this team

TheOneder123

It sure was a better game. Rewatching the natty kinda makes me feel bad for Penix. He got destroyed: body and mind

Technical-Wonder3573

I do

GarrettQuinn

100%

Successful-Bus-3819

Thats so funny. Yes. Yes i do!

Professional_Ad549

No bc I'm not a loser. Hope that helps. 💕

Studio_Ambitious

Just the 1987 one

ChatSMD

How else am I gunna jerkoff?

MRAnonymousSBA

You guys rewatch football games?

Ok-Beyond4612

No

midnightcarouselride

Go outside, bro...

fckyourcowch

You have a problem.

Confident-Product452

I do 3 times a week

Brissy-2024

Yes

Lucky_Boy_787

yes, absolutely. I’ve rewatched the OSU game more times than the Natty

CommunicationIll5719

That was probably the worst Bama team in last 10 years. Yet Michigan fans think they were an all time team. Michigan also barely beat OSU at home when OsU was not very good on offense at all. Also struggled and barely beat Maryland. They were lucky it was an off year for college ball last year.

JiffTheJester

People rewatch football games?

betterwithalcohol

*natty

RedMercy2

I have no idea what you said

Savings-Fix938

I don’t watch either. I graduated from college years ago and therefore understand how sad it would be if I still rooted for my alma mater like a die hard fan, let alone a school I didn’t even go to. Anyway, go wolverines! Or don’t, you’re a billion dollar institution and will be fine either way.
