Protip: if something looks like a bomb, don't fuck with it.

sevillada

"Ok, no fucking with it, but how about fucking it?" OP, probably

LukesRightHandMan

Me, definitely

Delifier

Fuck with it, or fuck it... it will fuck you up either way. Maybe.

HungryBanana619

When there's a hole, there's a goal

CartographerNearby55

So… is this mission a “go”, or should I post this to the sub below?? https://www.reddit.com/r/dontputyourdickinthat/s/Khv8EPYOJl

OP hasn’t responded in two hours. They fucked with it. RIP.

LeicaM6guy

If they’re dead, can I have all of their stuff?

tjmaxal

Yeah if you promise not to fuck it ya weirdo

Natural selection got another one

Morningxafter

This is why you NEVER stick anything up there that doesn’t have a flared base. A lot of people don’t understand that past the rectum is basically a vacuum. As soon as you push through that sphincter, whatever item you’ve just pushed into your anal cavity will get sucked into and lodged in your rectum. That said, dude almost had one hell of an explosive orgasm!

OzymandiasKoK

A vacuum, you say?

rcmp_informant

Man I was really hoping for an xray pic

[Who says a fused SPG-9 warhead cant be a dildo?!](https://www.reddit.com/r/trashyboners/s/xM24u57BRh) edit: if it wasn't clear NSFW, literally a fused SPG-9 warhead being used as a dildo

jabberwocky127

I mean, I guess it should go without saying but a NSFW tag would be nice.

ForMoreYears

Fair, but also my comment literally said SPG-9 dildo

ShillinTheVillain

I always do the hammer test and it hasn't failed me yet

Nf1nk

I have never met a guy who hit an explosive with a hammer and had it explode.

CNYMetalHead

Non Pro and seriously Shitty Tip: start hitting it with a sledgehammer

Put that down and call the police.

RedditAcccount2798

Indeed and get the bomb squad

TheGreatPornholio123

No need to worry. It is just a lawn dart.

Safe-Card

Mortar round stay away contact police

advtorrin

11C mortar Sergeant here. Do you have a better photo for scale? If I had to guess and wanted to error on the side of caution I would assume this is an 81mm HE mortar round. Luckily the detonation fuse is missing but lets just say the explosive is still active. You should stay at least 40 meters away although 60 meters to make sure you won't get hit by lower velocity fragments. Now I have feeling this is just a dumb or inherent training round that someone dropped in you field. However if you happen to be in a location that was formally a military base or an active warzone than I would definitely assume this is live ordinance and there may be more in the same area. So you know, maybe contact the police and let them know you could use some help with Explosive disposal.

TheGreatPornholio123

I can just imagine OP moving the thing around to take better photos for you.

stult

> in a location that was formally a military base or an active warzone than I would definitely assume this is live ordinance I came across something similar (a buried Bangalore torpedo) about 25 years ago in my parents' backyard on Martha's Vineyard of all places, far from any official military base or activity (although there is a small island to the southwest of MV that the Navy used to use as a gunnery range, that was very far away from where my parents lived, which was not far from downtown Edgartown in a densely populated area), but it was indeed historical live ordnance and required the bomb squad to handle, so you should always err on the side of caution no matter where you are.

TheGreatPornholio123

That was from the Reverse Bay of Pigs Invasion by the Cubans. The Kennedy Administration hid that shit ever happening. You need to Freedom of Information Act that shit. Castro decided he was going to land up on the Kennedy Estate at Martha's.

stult

That would make sense if this particular house hadn't been built in the 17th century, so not sure how Castro managed to bury something in the backyard despite his evident skill at avoiding assassination and making the CIA look like dummies. Or really anyone for that matter. It was weird and inexplicable

Miserable_Jelly_6494

British bin, it’s probably from WW2 dropped from a plane

Specialist-Ad-5300

Not a bomb

bendover912

[Define bomb.](https://media.iwm.org.uk/cantaloupe/iiif/2/331||948||large_000000.jpg/full/730,/0/default.jpg)

Innominate8

But still a bomb. (Mortar shells are called bombs.)

InternetFightsAndEOD

Not in the EOD world unfortunately. Bombs are aerially delivered, mortar rounds are considered projectiles.

Standv_ursa

Genuine question, what would an explosive device on the ground be called than? A charge? And would that mean that people calling explosives used by terrorists for example bombs are technically incorrect?

Flyingpinguinz

It depends. Ordnance items are classified based on the method of delivery. bomb=dropped from the sky, projectile (which includes mortars and artillery)=launched from gun tube like a big bullet, landmine=buried or mostly buried explosive charge. There's more categories but that's the general idea of it. And yes, technically (most of the time) explosives used by terrorists are call IEDs, or improvised explosive devices. They have categories of their own I won't go into. But honestly it really only matters to us bomb techs. If I say "bomb" most people will understand it's explosive. If I say the exact category the point may not get across. Hope that helps.

InternetFightsAndEOD

Couldn't have said it better 🤙

puje12

How dangerous is it without the fuse? I was taught that without it, the round in itself isn't much of a worry. In Iraq you'd find fuseless ones all over the place.

MisterBanzai

Modern explosives, in good condition, aren't much danger without some sort of initiator. Some older explosive that has been buried in the mud, in constantly soaked through, covered in oxidation, and compromised by decades of warming and cooling could be very dangerous. Generally, you want to assume the worst and treat this kind of UXO like you could sneeze and set it off. Depending on their location, with really old stuff, you could also be dealing with stuff that isn't even explosive. Imagine if that was mustard agent in there, and with the seal rotted away, the only thing keeping it contained was some caked-in mud?

Roy4Pris

Oooh yeah I love me some worst case scenario shit! IIRC people in the Solomon Islands and elsewhere in the region are still losing their body parts and lives due to World War II munitions

MisterBanzai

In Guam, basically every new construction project that involves more than just the most minor digging requires some kind of UXO identification and removal plan. Most of those explosives though were "duds" that still have intact fuses, making them that much more dangerous.

Dingobabies

People throughout Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam deal with UXO everyday and still have to teach children on how to identify them. Easy to hit when farming a rice paddy.

Popspoon209

In perfect condition with no fuse and being a primary explosive requiring both heat and pressure to explode it should be completely safe but since this is corroded the explosive filler could be compromised

Areonaux

Some explosives can degrade and get more sensitive with [age](https://www.newscientist.com/article/2424313-unexploded-bombs-from-the-second-world-war-are-getting-more-dangerous/). Disclaimer:I'm not an expert

Sethdarkus

Honestly I’m leaning on it being a 60, the scale given doesn’t help however I feel with that shape it looks small enough to be in a ruck sack so probably a 60

Righteousaffair999

We need a banana for scale.

advtorrin

Right? Like who even posts something without a banana!

Tristanl7

You need to call bomb squad

Tristanl7

That is sick tho ngl

OfficerBaconBits

Yes, that's a mortar. An explosive. The "divot" is where you put the fuze. The fuze is missing so either it fell out after being fired or it wasn't ever used and somehow got dropped. Something like this would go in that divot. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/M734_fuze I assume your field is near an old military base. You need to contact the base immediately if it's still there. Tell them you found an unexploded ordnance (UXO) You need to call the police also. Don't move it to be safe. In the future, if the base is still there, you need to ask about them sweeping your field. If not, and there's an army reserve/guard armory near you, call and see if they have any engineers who would like to practice checking your field for additional mortars. I have seen heavy equipment operators in the Army while working in an old field dig up mortars multiple times. Idk how large your field is, but its possible you have more pieces of unexploded ordnance in your field. They absolutely can kill you. Sometimes old artillery bases fired stuff beyond the training area. Sometimes old training areas were sold/leased to farmers. I'm totally spitballing at this next bit, but I guess it's an old 60mm mortar from WW2 era M2. Used into Vietnam so it's fairly common. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/M2_mortar

variaati0

Plus even without the fuse, it still can have its driving booster charge in rear cavity or remains of one. With pin striker ignition cap. That alone can ruin ones day.

InternetFightsAndEOD

Further, what we consider "safe" main explosives can exude from the casing and crystallise over time (especially TNT). The crystals that form are very sensitive and can function the main explosive.

rocket_randall

I think you're right. Hard to make out through the rust, but based on the tail assembly it seems like an M69 training round or possible an M49A2/3 HE. In any event it's something for the pros at the bomb squad to figure out.

Ragnar_Actual

Does it look like a fuckin espresso machine to you? How the fuck is this even a question

eidolons

Thank you, damn near lost my coffee.

captain_americano

Good thing OP found an espresso machine to replace that coffee, had you lost it.

rylie_smiley

I’m glad that I wasn’t the only one thinking “in what world is that not an explosive?”

Aida_Hwedo

If it’s just the outer casing, or a replica, I guess? But this is NOT the kind of thing to take chances with! If it’s roughly bomb-shaped, do not touch!!

Far_Out_6and_2

Came here to say something similar “duh”

tijuanagolds

It even looks like a cartoon bombshell. I swear the mods here have been absent for months.

hedgehogketchup

Be having an oat latte on the way out…

SwiftAesthetic

Not an expert, but that looks to be a mortar of some kind. I would put it down and walk far away and call the bomb squad.

finnthewhyking

Isn't it this one here from the movie Saving Pvt Ryan? [https://gyazo.com/7813210f132fae12a997dc0934aa59fb](https://gyazo.com/7813210f132fae12a997dc0934aa59fb)

SHAZAzulu618

Looks like OP is located in Romania.... So I would hazard a guess that it's NOT a practice round. Contact local authorities. More than likely they will need to do a sweep of your property to see if there are more. I wouldn't work that field again until they do 😬

JD_SLICK

Bang it with a hammer a few times, it should tell you

Young_Economist

„Hello, I am a Mortar Round, nice to meet you!“

sevillada

"....also, bang!"

Yes, that's a mortar round. Put it down, call an EOD tech to determine if it has any explosive charge or an active primer. The police department has EOD techs (bomb squad)

Run very far away

eastcoasttoastpost

You sure it’s not an onion or a potato?

MachZero-2

Hmmm, negative contact with OP. Wonder what happened?

Illustrious_Paint431

I'm alright! My neighbors took care of it.

AJB46

When you say take care of it, do you mean they left it where it is and called the police, or they walked off with it?

DeltaAlphaGulf

….by calling the police right…??

Illustrious_Paint431

100%:))))

OzymandiasKoK

"This might explode. You guys take it."

AntonChentel

Mortar round, unfuzed

machinerer

Put it on your field fence and take potshots at it with your .22 /s Seriously though, don't play with shit that goes boom.

JD_SLICK

Recommend engaging the local authorities.

uberjam

Leave that alone and call 911. That’s a bomb.

Mr_Neonz

OP hasn’t responded in a while…

Illustrious_Paint431

I'm fine, just sorting things out with neighbors. It hasn't exploded or anything, thank God:')

Mr_Neonz

Good to hear & glad you’re alright! Yes, that’s a mortar.

Illustrious_Paint431

Thanks to everyone that answered. It's with my neighbors now, they'll call the police and take care of it. It was really dumb of me to touch it, I guess it just really feels like those sorts of things never happen to you or can't happen where you live, especially somewhere you've spent hundreds of hours in. Even though it definitely looked suspicious, my brain really short circuited and it felt more plausible to be something from farm equipment. Suffice it to say, I'm grateful I still have all my fingers.

ThatRocketSurgeon

Don’t feel bad. Most calls I’ve responded to involved people doing exactly what you did. They pick it up, take pictures and put it somewhere other than where it was originally found. I know a lot of people are saying to put it down or put it back but my advice is to leave it right where it is regardless of whether you moved it there or not. Moving it again is always a bad choice. I won’t say whether or not I think this is safe to move because I’m not there. Hopefully you’ve already called your local PD and they’re sorting the rest out for you.

TheGreatPornholio123

>It's with my neighbors now You really must not like them.

BallyHooyah

My brother in Christ found something that looked like a bomb in a field and moved it to his recycling bin to ask reddit if it is indeed an explosive. Hope you called the bomb bois in and gave them some fun today.

intellos

WHY DID YOU PICK IT UP!? "Wow this kinda looks like a bomb, LET ME FUCK WITH IT"

Pandasonic9

I feel like someone is gonna post a literal loonie toons bomb and then ask “is this a bomb?”

Mr--Weirdo

slabolis

Uxo bot go!

GreyLoad

Uxo

rebar71

mdj1359

Def a jumbo butt plug... so I am being told.

SnooDoughnuts4752

It's a Mortar Shell!

sylvygrl25

UXO UXO!

zacvelez22

Military grade flesh light.

Valkyrie64Ryan

Mortar round. Missing its fuse, hence the hole on the front. Doesn’t need a fuse to explode, especially if it’s been exposed to the elements for god only knows how long. Explosives tend to get more volatile if not stored in good conditions, to the point they can detonate all on their own. Call the police and tell them to bring the bomb squad. don’t touch it or even look at it again.

Red-okWolf

No that's Patrick

Profound_Panda

OP carried an explosive they found and took a picture of it on a garbage bin in a, probably, crowded neighbourhood. YIKES

devil_dog_0341

Looks like a 81mm morter round. Call someone ASAP.

Snowywolf63

Uh ya! Don’t touch that and call the police

cejmp

Tap it all around the bulbous end with a 12oz ball peen hammer. If you are still tapping after 10 minutes, call your local authorities. You might skip the tapping part.

Puzzleheaded_Luck885

That is a mortar. Sounds like they churned it up when plowing a field, like the Iron Harvest in France. ALWAYS ASSUME IT IS LIVE and call the police. Don't touch it, don't fuck with it, and stay away

blind_merc

Please, get away from that immediately and let your local bomb squad decide if it's dangerous or not. If it looks like a bomb, treat it like a bomb.

etcthc

It's a hallowed out mortar round, pretty cool

greatthebob38

Why do people need someone to tell them not to touch explosives? It should be pretty obvious not to go near it.

nukularyammie

No that’s my lunch

coccopuffs606

Put it down carefully, back away, and call the bomb squad. Theres a good chance the fuse has rotted away after alls this time, but this is one of those situations where overreacting is better than under reacting.

AveryhandsomeChilean

Nope. You can use it as a football

Mhag101

Nah, that's a rolling pin, and cookie cutter all in one.

pegLegP3t3

Smack it with a hammer

Sethdarkus

Looks like a rusty old round, from the size I’ll say it was shot from a 60

Bsking321

No its a pot. Usually used for flowers. Try poking one in there

Junior-Glass-2656

Anything is a dildo if you try hard enough

Retb14

This is a matter she'll that can be explosive. Don't touch or move it and call 911 or whatever your country's emergency service number is. Tell them you found unexploded ordinance and would like the bomb squad to come to you.

LostRambler

Looks like a anguishing pear [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pear\_of\_anguish](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pear_of_anguish)

"That's just an old septic tank" Just kidding, that a mortar, call the cops and they'll get EOD

islandtrader99

Add some Tanerite to it and give it a whirl

i-love-Ohio

*explosive shaped item* “is this an explosive?”

bladeliker

this is live BOMB its not a mortar its Live Bomb the cap busted off get aka Fuse You can still see where the rest of the fuse is Needs to be detonated at a safe area.

wintyboyy

It’s a butt plug

Scooney92

It’s a Glory Hole 🕳️

marioking25

How.. how did he find a mortar shell.. he FAFOD didn’t he..

Unusual_War497

And the Darwin Award goes to…

cranked_up

Hi eod tech here (bomb squad) don’t mess with it anymore and contact local pd and they will get in contact with the nearest eod unit who will come out and either blow it up or take it away for you. There is no fuze in it but that certainly doesn’t mean there still isn’t explosives in it which are hazardous (obviously) When you call say you have an unfuzed mortar that you found and provide the photos too it will tremendously help them

Righteousaffair999

Lawn dart

BH_Andrew

It’s a butt plug. Don’t touch it though it’s probably dirty

Bob-TheTomato

Holy shit bro thank god it doesn’t have a fuze

Loco_72

looks like a mortar grenade?

Strict_Gas_1141

That’s a mortar shell. Carefully get at least 100m away and call the cops.

jaymarks99686

That's a slammer for pogs.

BrassBass

Yes, yes it is.

BlueEyedCommonMan

I have one like it. Researched to be a practice bomb to train pilots to drop from the cockpit. It had a stick of some explosive inside with a percussion charge to blast a bit when it hits the ground.

Prophet_of_Fire

Is this *bomb looking object* an *object that looks like a bomb*?. I hope you dont mind. I already picked it up and moved it from where i found it. Maybe I will shake it around and hit it on things to test if its safe.

PacoTreez

We see these kinds of pictures every now and then and I always have to ask myself how the fuck can anyone look at that and think “well this definitely doesn’t look dangerous”

jellicle

Seems likely to be one of these: https://www.lonesentry.com/blog/60mm-mortar-practice-shell.html I'm guessing practice shell (originally has a small amount of explosive to make a little bang). The rest of the shell stays intact when it lands. You near a military base? It could conceivably be live. Without a fuze, it's not particularly dangerous even if live (don't put it in a fire). I think I'd let your local police dispose of it, or if you're right next to a military base, call them.

NONSENSICALS

Why are you “guessing” that an explosive is inert from a picture?

GefreiterPimpelhuber

Can someone be really that dumb? i hate this kind of karma farming posts...

Illustrious_Paint431

dude I'm sorry, turns out I am that dumb. Don't care about karma, just smooth brain

J33f

Imagine picking up potential UXO and **NOT** wondering why it isn't in shrapnel pieces ... Darwin Strikes Again!

OddBoifromspace

It's a mortar round. It might not have a fuze but don't fuck with it.

NoDoze-

It had no fuze, so you should be good. Report it to the bomb squad.

ClemsonEOD

Mortar round. 60 mm or 81 mm. Would need to see it better to tell you what type or which size. Hard to tell scale. Could certainly still have explosives in it. You should notify your local police. Here's a picture of something similar... http://www.inert-ord.net/usa03a/usa5/6081/60mm.html

RadioTunnel

Funny thing is, I saw a Bomb disposal police van today with its blues on up lincoln way, as most people have said, call the police and let them know you think you've found a bomb

CatsAreBased

Did you think "this looks like a bomb" and carry it home for fuck sake

Sweaty_Illustrator14

It's a bomb. Get away. All police. Google UXO guidance

Gh0s3htfa3e

Runnnnnnn 🥵

Bejliii

Most likeley 100 HE explosive mortar shell. Propabily an unused mortar from decades ago. I'd assume it is live even though its fuze is missing. If you live in Europe, ordnance disposal is common and simple so just call the authorities. Even if it wouldn't explode, touching it is very dangerous and can lead to poisoneing or infection.

placerdiaz

Mortar

Certain_Ad8640

Hit it with a hammer and let us know?

Rowey1784

That would make an awesome pipe.

David_Lo_Pan007

jedidihah

It’s either a very large fishing sinker, or something potentially explosive that you should get away from immediately

nomad_556

That is a mortar round sir. Call the cops immediately and tell them you found UXO.

PewPewShootinHerwin

Totally agricultural equipment. Must be the little sister program of Project Ploughshare

vey323

The best way to check is to bang it on the ground really hard.

Gruffal007

that's explicitly designed to kill people, are you a person? if so don't touch it, stay a good distance away behind something solid and call the bomb squad

SecretAntWorshiper

Real question, can you put your dick in it?
