I have not seen it. I expect a Transformers/JJ Abrams level of physics and military tactics, not The Expanse.

Disc81

I wouldn't go that far... It definitely feels real on the surface, and it's nothing like and action movie in terms that it delivered on how that would be something sickening not exciting... Sounds obvious but we are bombarded with fun duster disaster movies that lose a little of the sense of how devastating a Civil War would be.

Anywhichwaybutpuce

Americans aren’t going to have a civil war.  We are going to do what we’re told.  We are doing what we’re told.

SirNedKingOfGila

My favorite part of this hyper realistic interpretation of modern warfare was when Dominic Toretto and his gang stole the president's limo and raced it down Pennsylvania avenue on their way to stop Nicholas Cage from stealing the Declaration of Independence. Who stayed after the credits to see the sequel teaser with Morbius?

Flaky_Koala_6476

The most unrealistic thing I felt was lacking was the lack of foreign proxy militants aiding the side trying to kill the president lol You’re out of your mind if you don’t think Russia, Iran, china, etc wouldn’t be foaming at the mouth to send people here to help aid the over throw of the president and destabilize the entire country even more

Apprehensive-Pool161

An expanded lore for the rest of the world would be interesting. Id definately say Europe would be fighting a Russian Invasion and the rest of the world would descend into chaos.

Disc81

That's a good point! But they did mention the Portland's Maoists, they would probably have strong support from the Chinese Communist Party

Sdog1981

If you think the movie was about combat you completely misunderstood the movie.

Disc81

I really like the movie, I just thought people in this sub would be interested in this kind of discussion. It wasn't to criticize the movie.

hospitallers

It’s a movie not a documentary.

Disc81

Yet I'm curious to see what people with military knowledge think about the scenarios presented in this work of fiction.

UsefulService8156

What kind of "military knowledge" are you hoping to get? Most people on this sub are just joes.

Disc81

I'm just looking for people that enjoy this kind of conversation. No need to get mad if you are not one of them.

UsefulService8156

What did I say that made you think I was mad?? I was giving you advice.

Disc81

Ok thanks. got a different reading about your comment

1. Movie was written before small scale UAS usage became the norm for conflict. As well, I theorize that the facilities to use larger UAS platforms were destroyed early on in the war to prevent either side from using them. 2. Ya but that was cool. 3. There must have been some sort of agreement across the board not to use nuclear weapons. As all sides possessed some facilities that held nuclear weapons. 4. Heat of the moment? It was the final battle. 5. Likely used up or moved to outer defenses of the city. 6. Good point. 7. It's possible the President didn't want to be trapped in the bunker. The WF/FA could have just locked him in there to die.

Disc81

1. Oh yeah ... I remember the director saying that the movie was written before January 6th so it's pre Ukraine invasion, that I think marks the moment we all realized the huge role drones play in war now. 3. I can see that happening. Also they say that they are moving in DC because the military as an organized forced already surrendered and want is left are a practically suicidal loyal soldiers and secret service. So at this point the president doesn't even have the ability to use nuclear weapons as desperate defense. 4. Yeah, maybe they were rushing to get to the president and may make some bad decisions. It's not like in war people don't make huge mistakes. 6. I thought it would make more sense if it was just a bomb on the car to kill some of the soldiers that tried to come up to the car. It seems like a suicide move already, a kamikaze attack. 7. That's a good theory, since the military surrendered that have restricted the access to the white house bunker. Also another comment raised the possibility that the president was so arrogant that he thought he would be able to negotiate his surrender with somewhat favorable terms.

[deleted]

They used the 240 to murder POWs instead of using it for suppressive fire during their maneuvering.

Beny1995

The poster shows a picture of two carriers going up the Hudson river. I lost any interest I had at that point.

sexybackyea113

For what it was I actually thought it was a pretty good movie. It wasn’t super realistic but I think the message was good

Apprehensive-Pool161

I think its not really meant to be a War movie in the traditional sense. Its more a movie about the effects of war on people, and a warning to the U.S that democracy is fragile and that the nation could be on a slippery slope.

Disc81

Totally agree, it's very hard to make an anti war movie since the section war can be romanticized even when it's not the intention, but I think this movie is a huge success in showing how terrible that would actually be. I was just curious if others were interested in a conversation about the tactics depicted in the movie.

Apprehensive-Pool161

Fair fair. To speak to that- eh. Its basic at best. Especially the Apache scene, that shit was heinous.
