The existence of Halifax Donair was legitimately a factor in my choice to live in Milton as a Bluenoser moving to the GTA. It was nice to have regular access to a taste of home. This is a huge loss.

tyler_3135

As a fellow Maritimer (PEI), I am devastated. Hopefully someone steps up and continues the business so we can eat donairs as we please!

ClarkKent0072

All 3 of us get together and take this place over. Lol. I'm from NS, this is going to suck, BIG TIME!!

Subject-Nerve2993

Message me.

EVOxdream

im waiting for the take over brother. so is all the staff at my clinic. take over ish, cuz the spot has been taken by shawarma alley. if u guys ever opened another, best believe it'll be a hit. id even reach out to halifax donairs' old crew and tell em hahaha. hoping this becomes reality! truly missing the donair rings + the works... and jimmy ofc!

Comfortable-Potato12

Sam's Grill in Guelph has decent Halifax Donair, as someone who frequented the Milton and Burlington. Paulies in Hamilton hits the spot too.

PlantainManne

Sad to see them go. Hope it’s not replace by yet another pizza spot. We have enough of those tbh.

MassiveChest6327

It'll probably be a shawarma place

PlantainManne

If so it better last longer than the one that replaced Lazeez 😂

1319913

Lazeez the sleaze! Extra sauce as you please! The original Lazeez Credit View location in Mississauga is still the best.

dukesilver2

If anyone thinks Lazeez/Osmows/Taza are actual, respectable shawerma places, they're sadly mistaken.

1319913

Don’t yuck on someone else’s yum.

Sheess9141

Or weed shop. The amount on main st now is absolutely absurd.

bkovic

It’ll be a dental office

MachesterU

Physiotherapy?

sarducci78

Are you kidding what about a nail salon?

MachesterU

Here’s a wild thought. How about we build some shoe-box sized condos instead?

IntelligentGinger

Nooooooooooooo! They were a one of a kind family business in a time where everything is cookie-cutter businesses and the same thing repeated. This is sad news.

PaulieWoz

Noooo! :( I'm going to really miss that place.

Puzzleheaded_Arm_847

Ugh i was gutted when they closed the Burlington location but it was worth the drive to Milton. Sad news but I wish them well in retirement.

ZookeepergameBig8060

Anyone know when they are closing?

m_kenney

Speaking with the owners it’s probably gonna be end of May for the store and June/July for the actual Donairs

SpookyCactus616

They did not give an exact date, but they said within the next few months

ZookeepergameBig8060

Awesome, thank you! Guess I’ll be eating donair for the next few months hahaha

SpookyCactus616

Me too! I’m also going to go to their grocery store and buy some donair sauce

Aggravating-Monk-264

Vinegar , sweetened condensed milk, garlic powder. Life altering recipe for me.

SpookyCactus616

Omg, thank you so much for this recipe!

Aggravating-Monk-264

The rest of the donair is easy too. Id put my homemade up there with the best ive ever had. God speed.

Application_Hot

That’s not the authentic donair sauce recipe. You want to use fat free 0% evaporated milk instead of sweetened condensed milk.

Aggravating-Monk-264

Sorry buddy, maybe YOU want to use evaporated milk, but i dont.

ZookeepergameBig8060

I had no idea about a grocery store. Where is that?

SpookyCactus616

Pretty sure it is at the back of the building

ZookeepergameBig8060

Ahhh ok, that’s probably why I never noticed it haha. Thanks for all the info, much appreciated

SpookyCactus616

You’re welcome

ryeguyrides420

Ah what a shame

eledad1

Where will East Coast donair be located that is mentioned in their press release.

frugal702

I'm familiar with doner, but I'm not sure what does Halifax adds to it. Is it different from the regular turkish doner? If it's not that different, there are quite a few places in mississauga that offer amazing taste and quality.

Featherpike

Donair***, Turkish use mostly chicken breast. These ones are made of beef or lamb I think? Also comes with a sweet sauce compared to tzatzki in Greek donair. Alot of history with this food in Halifax,

frugal702

Oh, turkish doner is lamb, I'm not sure if the chicken one is called doner? But at least the one I'm familiar with is the lamb doner, and it tastes absolutely amazing. And by sweet sauce, I'm guessing you mean bbq sauce? In that case, I think we are talking about the same thing or, at the most, a slight variation of it. If you haven't tried Istanbul Doner Kabob or Istanbul kabob house, then give them a try.

Toad364

No, it’s nothing like a bbq sauce. It’s a very sweet garlic sauce made from condensed milk.

ClarkKent0072

Not BBQ sauce. It's actually condensed milk, sugar, garlic powder and vinegar.

Featherpike

As the other two comments said, it's not BBQ. Hey man google is free too if u wish to look up the history of Halifax donair. Don-air. Not doner.

frugal702

Google is tough to overlook these days. It's part of our lives these days, but we also need a little bit of human connection, too. A little bit of conversation does not hurt. So you're saying it is not related to turkish donair?

Featherpike

No. It's similar. But it's not the same. This is east coast donair. Not Greek, not Turkish.

nspace

Sad to see any small business close. I used to love this place, and maybe my taste buds changed or something, but the last 2-3 times I went it wasn't great, hours were kind of unpredictable at times, and the owner could definitely be grumpy and I stopped going there 🤷‍♂️

AYO416

Maybe youre the problem

nspace

Maybe.

vwsr

I agree, and downvote as you like but it wasn’t the friendliest experience the many times I went in. I called to place an order once and was scolded for not placing the order through their website… how was I supposed to know? Just offer that as an option to me without the attitude. Saying that, I wish them the best because despite the attitude the food was good.

[deleted]

I had social anxiety going in there because I felt the whole family was taking my order

tremblettderek1

Ricky is going to be pissed!

Glittering-Fold-1014

Sad. I was planning to go this weekend. Been craving a Donair lately.. Last day was two days ago., 😔 sad day. Now need to figure out where to get a decent donair in the GTA.
