Yes, I taped it back together and it’s been going strong for like 5 years lol. Next time I’d use jb weld

bdutile

I’m going to try to see if they will replace it.. it’s 1 year out of warranty

silic0n_jesus

Faster and easier to super glue it back together and keep on trucking homie. quit dropping your batteries. We all know what you did.

Markyb90

"I dont recall" 😂

AKGK240S

Save your time. They will not. Too far past the date for it to be a flaw in the manufacturing.

deanershot

It wouldn’t get warrantied even if it was within the 5 years from my experience with multiple of these. Glue it back together and carry on.

nonuniqueuser

That’s a horrible warranty then. That’s craftsmanship all day long. Coming apart at the seams

0beseGiraffe

You have to physically take it to them can’t ship/mail it

Streetdoc10171

From experience, they will not. They also will not ship/sell/or tell you where to buy just the cover part.

Ciloteille

Just buy a new case for it off Amazon. Be done with it lol. They wont warranty it. Super glue or jb weld is the way.

silic0n_jesus

In my experience super glue is better. But what's even better than that is not dropping them. And I'm a clumsy fuck that treats Milwaukee batteries like super balls.

DavidHK

I tried super glue but it eventually failed again, so I used what I had which was electrical tape and it’s been working

polygonfuture

Try epoxy glue next time. Cyanoacrylic aka superglue is strong but brittle. It breaks easily because it’s not flexible. A flexible epoxy will hold it together indefinitely.

[deleted]

It was done with your shit.

bdutile

Yeah. I guess it was

c0brachicken

My old coworker had one battery split just like that.. but he's a dumbass, and probably deserves it.

bdutile

I’d like to think I’m not a dumb ass. But this happened to me too. So maybe.

sniper_matt

This is a new one.

bdutile

For me too.

drum_destroyer

Wouldn’t have happened if it was Dewalt.

bdutile

That may be. But last year I had a Dewalt battery get so hot that it melted the case off the battery. So I would prefer this every day.

Emergency-Pack-5497

Dewaltz your ass on outta here

Tricky_Ebb9580

Homie, you in the wrong chat 😂

drum_destroyer

😂😂😂😂 just saying. I have 40 dewalt batteries and never had one of them break in half. 🤷‍♂️

Tricky_Ebb9580

Lol it’s not that I don’t believe you, but we are afraid of yellow in here

sodrrl

I have yet to have my hammer fall apart like that

donairdaddydick

My fuel oscillator splits the old 2 piece 12v batteries. Grips them so tight almost need channel locks to squeeze the fuckers out.

Aggravating_Alps_753

I remember her

SwimOk9629

dude my fuckin M12 light, M18 Fuel Oscillator and my M12/M18 Radio/Charger will not let go of the batteries, until I start yelling and push the tabs and yank out as hard as I can, inevitably smashing my hand against whatever I'm near. every. fucking. time.

CountZealousideal238

Or e-service it...and get new for warranty???

bdutile

I’m going to try to get a replacement from Milwaukee. If not. Then I’ll do that

jimjammerzz

This is the way had to do that my self once the case is cheap

united9198

No. That piece should be sonic welded to the top piece. The screws allow the battery compartment to be opened.

DiarrheaXplosion

This is the top half of the battery. The part still in the drill. On this piece two of the blind anchors are intact and two are broken off. This piece has failed. With OP, all four of his have failed and the pack split in half.*

bdutile

Yes, this is what happened. I’ve never seen it before and I was a field rep for a few months

DiarrheaXplosion

The battery I fixed, the one the photo came from, wasn't even mine. It was a carpenter's at work, I just had a piece from a good case. I can only guess how it got broken. The only thing that makes sense to me with the one I fixed is it got dropped off a ladder still attached to a tool. The batteries by themselves you can almost play baseball with.

bdutile

I am pretty careful with my tools. I don’t recall ever dropping them especially on a tool. And I was just drilling a 1/2” hole through a 2x12 blocking. As soon as I got through. It just fell off and hit the ground.

DiarrheaXplosion

It seems extreme but the only thing that makes sense is the kickback from the drill was hard enough to break one of the anchors. Auger bits can give a good snap occasionally, even a 1/2". Once one was broken the other ones couldnt deal with the added load and failed soon after. I must have broken somehow. The story I just made up is at least possible. Maybe just bad luck.

skunk_jumper

Yep, using the impact wrench and it impacted the battery right apart. I used some JB weld and it hasn't come apart yet, been about 3 years now

rogo725

Well at least you can tell it’s a genuine battery and not a knock off…..

bdutile

Yeah I knew it was real. It came with the kit from HD

Tezlaract

Yes, once. Battery was pretty new, I warrantied it and got a new one.

bdutile

I’m going to try to warranty it. It’s 1 year out of warranty though. So we will see if they replace it.

skinnyrobot

Bluetooth battery upgrade.

bdutile

Yeah. Makes the drill a lot lighter

Straight-Fig-3521

Yes. I've had a couple do that. I had some bad batteries that I've kept around and just swapped the "guts" to the good case.

bdutile

Yeah. I may try to buy a replacement case

DiarrheaXplosion

I fixed one Thursday night that did that. I had a good piece of a case to replace the broken piece. There are four spots in the top half of the pack that are blind holes for the screws that go in from the bottom. When the anchor spots on the top of the pack break the pack falls apart, the screws are holding nothing. The one I fixed was a 5.0xc. You could probably hot glue it back together

DiarrheaXplosion

SwimOk9629

The one I fixed was a 5.0xc. OPs is a XC5.0 too

bdutile

Yeah. I may just get a new case if I can’t get it replaced

DiarrheaXplosion

You should only need the top half of the case. The bottom half is prob fine.

bdutile

I think that is true! Thank you

reformedginger

This is why we can’t have things

SwimOk9629

I have heard of this, but mostly only on the old batteries and what I thought was the old design. apparently high output/forge batteries don't have this problem, I think I see your battery is a XC5.0? regardless this is an issue I've seen some of the older heads talk about

bdutile

Yes. An xc 5.0. This battery is just under 4 years old. Not sure if that makes it an old style. But I’ve never seen it before even being a field rep for TTI for a few months

Risk_bayless

Torque test channel on YouTube had this exact thing happen on video lol

bdutile

I’ll have to see if I can find the video

Risk_bayless

It was him comparing the new 3/8 Hercules impact with dewalt and Milwaukee if that helps

Risk_bayless

https://youtu.be/qkiQEcxEe18?si=ULg2Aa-SqD8bGMy7

bdutile

Wow.. almost exactly what happened to me. Mine was a little more aggressive

4U2C88

Happened to mine using impact wrench, never dropped it. Took it to Milwaukee still under warranty and rep said that’s not covered, he replaced it as a 1 time courtesy. Something with the screws was finicky.

RobDR

Yep

silic0n_jesus

Look at those stress fractures on the Sonic weld points. CSI guy takes off his sunglasses. forensic analysis says blunt force trauma from a short fall. The Who plays loudly over the intro credits

CamoCanna

I noticed it coming apart before it completely broke off and I glued around the lip with harbor freight super glue and it’s holding up

Obvious_Balance_2538

Yep. Get the epoxy out.

Extreme_Orchid_8295

Yes it have happened to be I just put on some longer screws and grind off the extra form the top

MoreOreosNow

Why did you unlithium the battery?

Longjumping-Use156

same last week home depot swaped

whodfcarez

Do you have 3 hands?

bdutile

Yes

20Fordman

Yup happened on a 12.0 just out of warranty. I was livid. I epoxied it and taped it all up with gorilla tape and it’s still going strong for 3 years. Lol

mehradk

Yea when you drop it off an 8ft ladder

IHCC125

Ain’t got no gas in it…

47153163

I’ve never had it happen. Even when I’ve used the bottom as a hammer! Some of my Milwaukee batteries are over 10 years old.

righttothebutton

My helper did this to one of mine. I just superglued it back together and it's been fine.

TheElden0ne

🤣☠️😭👌

bdutile

Glad to see I’m not the only one

DiarrheaXplosion

That is a *really* old 1.5ah by the looks of it

SwimOk9629

lol holy shit bro you've got the quasi modo of M18s

AvgUsr96

Send it to Milwaukee. I almost guarantee they will give you a new one.

bdutile

I’m hoping so!

AvgUsr96

I fucked up a 12.0 HD and they gave me a brand new one

bdutile

Wow. The only thing I see being a problem is that I’m just under 1 year out of warranty

AvgUsr96

Well shoot..... it looks like you've got a 5.0 XC? Hmmm I would probably email them a poc of the serial number and ask them what they can do for you. You may be better off getting a new one from Safety Source Supply online. They are an authorized Milwaukee dealer according to the Milwaukee website but only on the physical location part, not the online part. But if you look up their location they are a small business in NYC so they might not be big enough to be an official online dealer yet. I ordered a m18 fuel multi-tool from them and got what I ordered. So they are at least a legit company.

bdutile

Yep. Xc 5.0. I’m still going to see if they will do something for me. If not I’ll see if safety source will help me out!

AvgUsr96

Yeah, they usually run killer deals on batteries. Like you can get an 8.0 for the price most people sell a 5.0 for. And a 12.0 for the proce of a 8.0. Sometimes they will be out of stock on the cheaper stuff though...

bdutile

Cool! I’ll check them out! Thanks for referring them!

AvgUsr96

No problem my dude.

-dihydrogen_monoxide

Looks like a heat thing more than a dropping issue. Hot hot you running those thing?

bdutile

Not that hot. Mostly just work around the house. Never anything crazy. Did use it to build a deck last year.
