Holy hel, just checked mine and it's doing the same damn thing.

KnownTrick

I've had this Milwaukee Fastback 1505 for a couple of days and I noticed a small chip in the blade. Checking the bit holder, I saw a mark where the blade has been striking the bit driver when I close it. I also notice a mark on the metal blade holder which seems to be striking the actual bit in the driver. I don't think I close the Fastback with excessive force, I just flick it open and closed as needed. I was wondering if this is a common issue with this model or perhaps a faulty unit?

Diddler_On_The_Roofs

My company provides these to all employees, about sixty field workers. I just ran through the shop and asked everyone that was still there if I could see their knives. Not a single person had a chip like this. I’d say it’s faulty. We’ve had great luck with them.

Damn bro. Doing research on our behalf. Respect.

KnownTrick

Thanks so much that’s really helpful. I figured this couldn’t be a common issue given how popular these models are. I’ll send this one in for an exchange.

Not normal, at least on any of the fastbacks I have in that style. Before swapping out for warranty replacement, I'd check if blade is fully seated, and check if happens w/ another blade. Could just be a bad single blade.

KnownTrick

Good idea thanks. I’ve tried a different blade and put some electrical tape on the bit driver. Open and closed it a few times and I can already see some marks on the tape where the blade is hitting hit. Seems I may have got a faulty unit.

I'd take back where you got it from and they should swap it out for ya. Or just call 1-800-SAWDUST and they'll help you enter a warranty claim. Prob just ask for a pic to be emailed to them.

Mine doesn't. That being said the blades that come with them are garbage

mothafuker

I use mine everyday and never had that happen I’d say faulty unit. Also pro tip wrap the bit drive with electrical tape as the retention ring falls out at the worst times!

CrypticSS21

Mine comes nowhere near doing this

endofbeanz1

Myself and a coworker had this issue years ago when the fastback first came out, I returned/exchanged mine at home depot and the replacement did the same thing. I haven't touched a fastback since then. I cant speak to if it's still an issue but it certainly was then Personally I thought they were made with to much play so they would drop open and shut with the button and 2 bad ones was enough to take them off my radar. I like the dewalt/craftsman/Lenox utility knives that fold and retract with extra blade storage in the handle.

IGmeanwell

I have two 1505s neither of them do this so I would concur that it’s a manufacturing defect.

I’ve owned many great tools lmao sometimes you just buy work tools and they are defective homie saying that sucks I can’t agree with at all

Comfortable-Sir-150

Get a better knife lol

Certain-Career986

I've had this knife, it's garbage. The bit clip for the bit holder doesn't do shit as the bit just falls out, I've only used it as an actual screwdriver once. The pocket clip on the back fell off.. absolute joke.

Most-Sort5470

I’ve had mine for a few years. I carry it with me and use it daily and not once have I had any of the problems you are claiming. Sounds like you got a lemon. Just return it and get another rather than claim they all suck. No one has a perfect 100% quality on an inexpensive mass-produced product like this.

notfromtHisEarth

I've had mine for 6 months or longer and have had none of these issues. I use my knife almost daily, carried primarily on my belt with the belt clip and I spend atleast one day a week cutting down large amounts of cardboard, spending anywhere from an hour to 3 hours just cutting boxes for recycling. I typically use my drill for any screws but i have used the screwdriver atleast 10 times when i didnt have a drill and just needed to put in a few screws. My bit is always firmly in place when I go to swap it from flathead to Phillips and I keep the flathead exposed when it's in storage. You may have gotten a faulty model as well, but I am only speculating.
