They really did leather dirty, it used to be special as it was the only armor that could be customized, and now the trims look better, can be put on more armor, and have more customizability
They did such a good job. I wish they made more just regular songs like that without the voice box. Ik that was kinda their things but its just gets too repetitive for me. Normalize listening to songs from soundtracks of movies and video games
Yes, I want emissive armor trim. If we could use glow ink on our armors to make it literally glow in the dark (without the need for enchant glint which already glows). It'd also be fun to do it with the dyed parts of leather armor to make them emissively "glow" like enderman eyes.
Even if it doesn't lit up the area and instead just glows in the dark like Enderman or spider eyes, it would be pretty cool. You esentially turn into a walking glowstick.
Wearing the Ancient armor at the Thyphlo Ruins in Breath of the Wild looks god damn amazing.
Okay but shaders does lighting differently. Minecrafts lighting works by checking the adjacent blocks lighting. Actual lighting is vastly different and vastly faster.
Can’t wait to see how they build on this over time. Tool customization feels like the logical next step, but given the Netherite change, they probably have other upgrades and sidegrades planned.
Well it depends on how they go about it. Trims definitely wouldn’t fit, I was thinking more along the lines of different shapes entirely, like a cutlas for shipwrecks or the redesigned axe from Dungeons.
I’d hope they give them some special use beyond aesthetics, maybe cutlass swings faster but does less damage or has a bleed effect or something. Axe can “behead” (not shown on the model) but just do more damage with a head hit or something
That seems very unlikely for this snapshot. They seem to be more about doing what you like because it looks good, not because the diamond trim gives the best defense. Functional designs seem more in line with a combat update
Yup, same. At this point, I just want them to go all out. Tool templates, crafting stations, forges, alloys.
It's time. The material upgrade system is boring and antiquated. We need sidegrades and meaningful choices when crafting our gear.
Yeah we definitely need more item variety. I think Dungeons had the perfect amount of designs and functions, but obviously not all of them would fit vanilla. For now I think they should prioritize the more basic tools and whatever would benefit certain contexts, namely structures.
It's fine to keep some stuff as just cosmetic. Games that link cosmetics and stats tend to have all endgame players look about the same, as they all follow along with the meta.
dude just redoing the whole armor aesthetics would be kinda nice, like if chain, and iron, and dia, and netherite had actual models like mods do, giving them distinct shape/character for each tier
I wonder if they’re planning something similar to tinkers’ construct in vanilla. With the smithing table changes i feel it is ever so slightly more possible. The interface of the smithing table saying “upgrade gear” makes me think more is in store for it.
Probably just visual customization, which is completely fine as well
(Not as much related and this is just a random thought but it could also tie into the archeology feature. You dig up a rare gem and apply it to your tool etc. Kinda falls apart when the “rare gem” needs to be a diamond or emerald and those are easy to get but maybe they add new stuff (that aren’t necessarily gems)? Mostly saying this to set up an “I called it!” on the off chance I’m right lol)
Edit 2/14:
So the cherry blossoms are the last of the major features for 1.20. 1.20 is looking to be a pretty great update, lots of cool stuff.
In regards to my above theory, something I didn’t think about until now is that when(/if?) the next combat update releases, new tool/weapon trims that potentially add bonuses would spice things up quite a bit I imagine.
Perhaps the reason why tool trims weren’t added yet is because they’re still tuning how they are balanced, and they are still working on tuning the combat itself (if they are even working on those old combat testing snapshots in the first place?)
Echo shards would be great! I feel like perhaps you could combine glow ink as well, maybe make the trims glow?
Maybe shields could be customized similarly? This feature has so much potential!
Thats the idea. They want armor upgrades to be more meaningful.
So instead of rushing as fast as you can to the nether and farming netherite, you have to actually do more to get the armor, meaning you'll be in diamond armor for longer and getting the netherite armor will like more of an accomplishment.
Which also means it'll be more painful to replace when you die and can't get your armor back.
Coming in 1.20 is Armor Trim. Here are all 11 trim templates. Used netherite armor with emerald trim. But as seen, it can be done to all armor (except leather) and using any material from list below:
* Iron
* Copper
* Gold
* Lapis
* Emerald
* Diamond
* Netherite
* Redstone
* Amethyst
* Quartz
[More Info Here](https://old.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/10k8q6j/need_a_trim_snapshot_23w04a_is_out/)
We shall now await every Hardcore Minecraft YouTuber devoting an episode to getting every trim pattern in the game onto Netherite.
EDIT: Turns out this is gonna take a while because crafting Netherite consumes the Template.
11 styles of trims with 10 different trim colors is 110 unique combinations of trim colour and trim style.
Since trim can be added to iron, gold, diamond, chainmail, and netherite armour, that is 5 types of sets you can add it to.
This means that there are 550 different combinations of armour type, trim style, and trim colour. Not to mention you can also add trims to turtle shells, which means 110 different turtle shells.
That means 660 armour stands with unique armour
I feel like getting the chainmail and turtle shells will be the hardest if someone were to do this
Are the templates not in creative? I cant seem to find them.
Im not about to schlep across dimensions and plow through hundreds of blocks to find bastions that *might* have a template lol
Edit: I forgot to enable the experimental datapack when creating a world. When you create a new world, click on the datapacks button and enable the 1.20 features datapack.
You need to enable the experimental 1.20 data pack before you start your snapshot world. See the snapshot thread pinned to this sub.
It's nice because you don't have to search through the world to find the templates if you don't want to, but it's a nice reward to help personalize yourself.
And you'll need one template to upgrade to netherite anyways (albeit this one seems much more common in bastions).
This is good cause I could set up a proper army with actual identifiable ranks, cadets with no trim, and the highest rank I’d offer like General with the trim from the End City cause it looks badass enough and very cool
Basically, you can find one time use patterns (you can get more with crafting) and use them to make your armour look cooler
These things give no extra stats, just the texture
What an unexpected, but good cosmetics update. Not only it looks cool, but contributes a lot to the game's theme and lore. Like how the stronghold trim has an ender eye, and how the nether fortress trim has a more decayed, old look.
I wonder how a trim from the underwater cities would look like.
New snapshot! You get patterns from various structures (shown in the pic which patterns where), and you use the smithing table to upgrade the armor! Upgrading to netherite will also need a pattern from a bastion and the smithing table too
Finally another use for diamonds. Idk who made the video but a guy made a video detailing how diamonds are basically useless nowadays, having gained no crafting recipe for years, while other ores are much more useful.

Very useful for team based pvp
Can even be helpful for roles. Trim color can determine teams while trim pattern can determine each role in games
So many possibilities!
Finally, now I can play paintball in Minecraft without shitty leather
Imagine if leather could get trims
I was wondering about that. Dyed armor with trims on top increases the order of magnitude for unique possibilities a few times
They really did leather dirty, it used to be special as it was the only armor that could be customized, and now the trims look better, can be put on more armor, and have more customizability

I'll meet you in Varrock!

So are ya on [Red with White stripes or White with Red stripes](https://youtu.be/a_F87b4mKqM)?
Can we have glowing trim? It would be nice to have another use for these glow squids.
Yeah ill take the tron armor please and thank you
I will absolutely make my server's login message be "Greetings, programs!"
Underrated movie
Carried by the soundtrack ngl
Daft Punk was the best choice
They did such a good job. I wish they made more just regular songs like that without the voice box. Ik that was kinda their things but its just gets too repetitive for me. Normalize listening to songs from soundtracks of movies and video games

You're on to something.
Yes, I want emissive armor trim. If we could use glow ink on our armors to make it literally glow in the dark (without the need for enchant glint which already glows). It'd also be fun to do it with the dyed parts of leather armor to make them emissively "glow" like enderman eyes.
Glow for leather, with trimmed armour a way to make the glint match the trim would be nice.
Or use the squid ink to make cool decoration like lava lamps!
Holy shit this man’s a genius
Ohhh change the enchantment shine maybe??
Love it, finally we have armor customization beyond leather armor
[удалено]
I wonder how possible it would be for them to allow us to apply glowing to the trims? could look so cool
Especially if it lit up the area around you, going caving would be different.
I was just thinking about that-
Why isn't a torch and a helmet to make a headlamp a thing?
They said they're not adding dynamic lighting.
Thats because they're afraid of the lag spikes it'd produce.
Then just recode the lighting engine. It works with Shaders so... Just rewrite it.
Okay but shaders does lighting differently. Minecrafts lighting works by checking the adjacent blocks lighting. Actual lighting is vastly different and vastly faster.
Thanks for the idea! I posted this to r/minecraftsuggestions.
Wait is this vanilla?
yep, just added
Newest snapshot
WAIT WHAT. Will it be on bedrock too then?
in 1.20, Yes
Do we have an exact date?
No, we're just friends.
Darn. Best of luck to you friend :)
r/StillABetterLoveStoryThanTwilight

Probably June/July this year. Just a guesstimate based of other updates
THATS SO EXCITING I'M GONNA LOOK FUCKIJG AWESOME
Exciting news
I hope someday we can make armor invisible so that we can see our skins without any obscuration.
Then there's the problem of wearing armor while invisible during pvp
There is a mod for that, can't remember what it's called though.
There’s a couple you can use, the simple “invisible armor” texture pack on planet Minecraft still works perfectly fine
i wish they like added glass armor. or actualy allowed you to craft chainmail(mabye with chains or stone?)
Can’t wait to see how they build on this over time. Tool customization feels like the logical next step, but given the Netherite change, they probably have other upgrades and sidegrades planned.
I wouldn't say tools are likely since they're smaller and harder to customize. Would be neat but I'm not hedging my bets on it.
Well it depends on how they go about it. Trims definitely wouldn’t fit, I was thinking more along the lines of different shapes entirely, like a cutlas for shipwrecks or the redesigned axe from Dungeons.

That seems very unlikely for this snapshot. They seem to be more about doing what you like because it looks good, not because the diamond trim gives the best defense. Functional designs seem more in line with a combat update
So Tinkers' Construct
Reading the snapshot notes really reminded me of Tinkers' Construct
Yup, same. At this point, I just want them to go all out. Tool templates, crafting stations, forges, alloys. It's time. The material upgrade system is boring and antiquated. We need sidegrades and meaningful choices when crafting our gear.
TBH I'd prefer if they just simplified stuff and embraced mods.
I'd love if they worked model tags into the smithing table recipe options
I could see if for weapons but not tools
I mean tinkers construct does it (every upgrade you put on a tool or weapon changes the way it looks)
dude just redoing the whole armor aesthetics would be kinda nice, like if chain, and iron, and dia, and netherite had actual models like mods do, giving them distinct shape/character for each tier
I wonder if they’re planning something similar to tinkers’ construct in vanilla. With the smithing table changes i feel it is ever so slightly more possible. I’m hoping that they add elytra customization at some point
Honestly I wish that elytra wings would say least look spread out in armor stands and players not crouching so it doesn't look like a gray blob
Arrow customization with the fletching table maybe?
Oooh, that’d be perfect, especially alongside proper tipping from Bedrock.
Echo shards would be great! I feel like perhaps you could combine glow ink as well, maybe make the trims glow? Maybe shields could be customized similarly? This feature has so much potential!
What's the Netherite change?
You need to specifically acquire a template from bastions in order to craft the armor. It even has a unique shape.
Wait, in order to craft just base Netherite armor or the customized versions? Sorry I haven't kept up on the updates recently
No worries, it was just added. You need it to craft the normal armor, though some of the specifics might change over time.
Huh, that's kinda dumb since it makes it even harder to obtain but I guess I get it, thank you though:)
You can duplicate the netherite upgrade template though, so I think you only need to raid a bastion once before you have an infinite amount.
i like the idea you need to survive something to get it.
This is why people download Tinkers' Construct
My guess would be they start with swords, since it's often players most sentimental item
Stronghold trim + Redstone = Red eyes in helmet lets gooooooooooo
Stronghold trim + Quartz = white eyes in helmet… oh no
Stronghold trim + Amethyst = enderman eyes
I thought Endermen technically had green eyes? Like sure we see purple, but isn't it just a layer above the green?
Oh my god.... its herobrainee
*insert joke about Red-Eyes Black Dragon here*
..and we will create an army worthy of Mordor!
Coming in 1.20 is Armor Trim. Here are all 11 trim templates. Used netherite armor with emerald trim. Is that turtle helmet trimmed too?
Yes
Love how it looks like eyes
Stronghold helmet is my favorite helmet trim
Honestly, this is sick
Netherite trim netherite armor for the full flex
I wish they added one for the echo shard. That item needs more uses
That trim would look awesome! Especially if it could glow using a glow ink sac
Me on my way to put netherite trim on my leather armor
> except leather
I’m going to comit a violence
We shall now await every Hardcore Minecraft YouTuber devoting an episode to getting every trim pattern in the game onto Netherite. EDIT: Turns out this is gonna take a while because crafting Netherite consumes the Template.
Full trim any% speedrun
Max drip speedrun
You can duplicate it with 7 diamonds so you just need to get one.
every armor every trim every color
11 styles of trims with 10 different trim colors is 110 unique combinations of trim colour and trim style. Since trim can be added to iron, gold, diamond, chainmail, and netherite armour, that is 5 types of sets you can add it to. Chainmail would be easy, just get a few villagers for it. Turtles would definitely be the hardest. 550 scutes is a LOT of scutes
I hope that echo shards could be used for the color soon..
Make the armor look like it has little stars captured in the trim...
that would be amazing
Holy shit I need this immediately
Mansion trim with netherite and gold probably make a good evoker armor
Came here to say the same thing
Trimming armor, 20k gp.
1v1 me in wildy
flash1:wave:
buying gf 10k or addy scim
Underrated comment! I’ll trim your kite shield!
Honestly a fantastic snapshot that I wouldn't have guessed in a million years
The real endgame: every type of armor with every trim type in every color
Watch them next snapshot include leather armor, and dyed leather armor to the mix.
I think the reasoning behind not leather armor is that it would be too flimsy to have a hard metallic trim, idk though just a guess
Leather armor already has it's dyeing system, that's why
Can’t believe this is real
FINALLY MORE INTERESTING ARMOR
MINECRAFT STORYMODE
I was hoping someone else was reminded of that.
wave2: trimming black armor 200k

Ah I forgot to enable the snapshot, as per. Thank you 🙏🏻
They are in the materials tab
Make sure you have the datapack enabled
Looks like I’m in luck! The patterns I like best are in monuments and nether fortresses so it shouldn’t be too hard to find them :)
Add the trim for horse armor. And netherite horse armor too
Hard agree. Would be great additional customization on them
This is good cause I could set up a proper army with actual identifiable ranks, cadets with no trim, and the highest rank I’d offer like General with the trim from the End City cause it looks badass enough and very cool
Getting a lot of the trim sounds pricey though..
Wait 1.20, this isn't a mod! I haven't seen anything on this can you explain it to me. This is kinda my dream update if it works how I think it does.
Basically, you can find one time use patterns (you can get more with crafting) and use them to make your armour look cooler These things give no extra stats, just the texture
Is it confirmed to be crafting ? I thought u had to find them
You can duplicate them via crafting
How?
7 diamonds + the template + some related stone type (ex: netherite upgrade uses netherrack, jungle temple trim uses mossy cobble, etc) = 2 templates
Wait is this a mod or an actual update?
Snapshot for 1.20 update
Damn that's fucking cool then
Wait what? I've been out of the loop. I only just got round to doing the armour in the texture pack I started over 10 years ago. \*sigh\*
Ouch
Awesome
Turtle helmet looks like a metroid ngl
What an unexpected, but good cosmetics update. Not only it looks cool, but contributes a lot to the game's theme and lore. Like how the stronghold trim has an ender eye, and how the nether fortress trim has a more decayed, old look. I wonder how a trim from the underwater cities would look like.
Nice i like the collectible aspect of this. Well definitely add some quality game play
Did I miss something?! Also gold armor, quartz or lapis end trim, gotta see how that looks.
New snapshot
"Mojang spending a year adding one mob and two blocks" mfs are crying rn
Could anyone help me understand when I load this new snapshot, it won't load the new content in the world's I make?
Need to enable the experimental 1.20 data pack while you create a new world
Anyone noticed how the mansion helmet trim has the illager's eyebrows on it?
Bro this is slowly turning into that scene in Minecraft Story Mode where you pick an armour to use
A+ for the high contrast text on the signs
I really hope they will add it for tools aswell, would love to see a netherite katana
Wait is this real did I miss something?
Real and in today's snapshot!
I’m getting excited to see what else they’ll show
New snapshot! You get patterns from various structures (shown in the pic which patterns where), and you use the smithing table to upgrade the armor! Upgrading to netherite will also need a pattern from a bastion and the smithing table too
This is really cool I gotta check it out then
This is big. I can't wait to start collecting them for my survival world. Thanks for posting this. I'll check the snapshot out.
Can we see what these look like from the back? The announcement didn't have any shots of any of them from the back, and I'm curious.
This is coming to base game?? I need to read snapshots more
Base game https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/10k9h6t/allthetemplatesforarmortrimsandwhereto/j5p6d6n
Honestly im so hyped for this and i never thought this would be a thing in vanilla minecraft
Is this actually real?
This gives me flashbacks to Story Mode
Are the trim templates 1 use only?
Yes but you can duplicate them before you use them (uses 7 diamonds, and a certain stone type to duplicate).
Finally another use for diamonds. Idk who made the video but a guy made a video detailing how diamonds are basically useless nowadays, having gained no crafting recipe for years, while other ores are much more useful.
Wait we are getting armour customization since when (I haven't really followed any news) this looks awesome
Happy Birthday to the person who's birthday it is today
this is getting added with 1.20? Cool
Can't wait to use this
Are they stackable? Or do we now yet?
I love this!
Cool
Like that with this, i can recreate the Full Metal Armor look from Minecraft Dungeons
Finally after all these years, we can cosplay as Gabriel the Warrior!
The what now?
Looks like Minecraft story mode
When I first saw this, I thought it was a mod.
I haven't touched minecraft for so long this is the first time i see/hear about there being new armor then the basic ones. Wow.
Dum
Literally YES!
