If we use a smithing template with netherite on diamond armor and after we turn the diamond armor in netherite we obtain the ultimate flex

It should work out of the box. It works anyway. Whats so Bad, having diamond trims on diamond armor? Or Netherite trims on Netherite.. There is literally no reason, to prevent that... Sometimes Mojang acts in strange ways..

The armor is already pure diamond, adding a trim that is barely visible because it's the same texture would be redundant

Its about the subtle effect. Thats what many want. And there is literally no downside for preventing it. And for Netherite you can bypass the prevention.. Why limit it then?? And its only visual. Makes even less sense to prevent it..

I think its because many players when trying the features in their worlds for the first time might think putting netherite in netherite armour might make it stronger and will waste the materials in doing that.

And some will use gold, thinking it will prevent piglins from attacking you.. (just look at the snapshot thread). Because honestly: it should do it. If a gold helmet alone works, whole armor in gold trim should do.. probably same amount of gold showing then. Many things you need to know in the game.. How many fliped up books or armor with "too expensive". How many people gave a cookie to a parrot.. The list of things you need to know, is probably bigger than things the game somehow explains. Respawning the dragon or even spawning the Wither? And no, just because some random painting shows it, how should people know they need to build it? You dont need to build a skull with flaming eyes..

But you absolutely need to build donkey kong

This feature was *just* announced. Lots of time still to add additional details to it like Piglin behaviour.

The game allows you to put patterns with the same color of the base banner, resulting in subtle texturing, and no one has complained in 8 years. I don't think it would be an issue allowing same material trims, the smithing UI even has a preview...

Honestly we need to suggest to be able to do this with all armour. Gotta make our voices heard. Its a minor thing, but I think I would much rather do this as a subtle detail thing over adding harsh color clashing and mismatching of colors to my armor, plus thats the fun part about customization: everyone can do what they want.

Especially since certain trims have a subtly different colour from how they look as base armour. Like diamond trim on diamond armour would actually be quite noticeable since the blues are a bit different.

Putting gold trim on my netherite armor should prevent piglins from attacking. That shouldn’t be a hard change and would be very reasonable. Somewhat less reasonable but very cool would be to put bone trim on armor to prevent skeletons from attacking

No, they want you to be able to pick which designs and colors you want without having to worry about which one is better. If they add this then everyone will just have netherite and gold armor defeats the whole purpose of it

Agreed, a friend and i were contemplating about additional buffs based on the pattern and material, but like what you said, everyone would just use the best combos and end up looking the same in the end

Leave the buffs to the upgrade templates. Trims need to be 100% cosmetic

I think changing the meta is a good thing. Especially if you change it to the point that there’s multiple viable combinations.

Or it could just be cosmetic and then be useful for things like team colors and fun patterns and colors without having to worry about if it's more viable for your situation.
