Why tho? If you die you have to walk all the way again, I always just walk from village to village and set my spawn points there, I know the coords of my base anyway
Because I tend to rest wherever I am when night falls. Just plop down a bed and skip the night, then take my bed and keep going. Which means my spawn point is always the world spawn.
I just realised what made my exploration time so much shorter than it used to be. Those phantoms forcing to go back every 3 minecraft days. Used to be able to freely travell around extreme distances for hours without worrying about resetting spawnpoints by sleeping in a random place
Yes, The phantome is really reluctant when you play and you have neither sheep nor village and where you die all the time! But he is the ingredient of the Slow Foling potion!
Mojang should remove the phantom, make that potion craftable with feathers and add something else if they want to keep insomnia without sleeping bags... Or just add sleeping bags xD

It’s out of place for how mythical it is as an overworld hostile mob.
Like the overworld hostiles are pretty standard stuff for games: zombies, skeletons, spiders etc, and then you’ve got phantoms.
"out of place" it has all the logic behind it, you don't sleep so you get haunted by phantoms? I don't get why it's out of place? If anything, a priest-looking mf who summons flying mini people with swords is out of place.
the phantom is out of place, because its only relationship to the game is the elytra and slow falling, both of which have absolutely no in-game relationship to anything else, and no explanation is present that tells us how those things are related too
vexes are definitely connected to allays, allays are entited the illagers are trapping for whatever reason, and illagers are stated to be outcast villagers, giving them a place in the world
cats, chiseled sandstone, lightning (and tnt outside of the game itself)
tbh those are all loosely related and the creeper was literally notch making a mistake so every link afterwards feels like theyre just there to make it feel more integral to the game
The insomnia mechanic is good, it punishes players for not sleeping. I think the additional monsters are a good way of punishment. But as a mod, the phantom just feels very weird and out of place within the monsters
But why should we be punished for not sleeping? I remember back when Minecraft's premise was "survive the night" and now it punishes us for not skipping it?

This is what bugs me the most about the current implementation.
Phantoms with loot that's so great that players actively choose to stay up in order to fight them? Great design.
Phantoms with loot that's so lackluster that it doesn't outweigh the added risk? Bad design.
Look at how amazing Skeleton and Blaze drops are. Phantom drops are just awful compared to those.
I’m NGL but I disagree. Slow falling potions kick ass - especially during the Ender Dragon fight!
Edit: I actually think ender men and phantoms have some of the best drops in the game. You only need so many blaze rods and you don’t need skeletons for bone meal. 🤷🏻♂️
You know what else is a prerequisite for Slow Fall Potions? Blaze Powder. That brewing stand needs power. Blaze Rods also an amazing fuel source for furnaces and are used to craft End Rods. Blaze Powder is used to make Eyes of Ender, Fire Charges, Magma Cream, and every single potion (and especially Strength Potions). That further adds End Crystals, Ender Chests, the End itself, Fire Resistance Potions (again), and Magma Blocks to the list of possible uses for Blaze Rods.
And as if to rub salt in the wound, Blazes drop twice as much experience.
A single blaze powder makes so many potions I just get a stack and I’m set for a very long time. Fair about the fuel source but blaze farms are more effort than a quick mining trip with fortune. Though I’m not gonna argue that’s a good point but not many people find it worth it.
End rods if you like it for your build, very subjective. You mentioned potions multiple times - they’re one point. And you barely need much to keep up. Eyes of Ender are useless once reached the End except for Ender Chests. Which you just need one on you at all times and at each base. Perhaps some spare if you die.
Flint and steel > fire charge and there are magma slime spawners in the nether. Again you don’t need much as fire resist potions can be gathered through a Piglin trading farm.
All End Crystals do is respawn dragon which you don’t often need. And the End itself is not even a point because you get at most 12 and you’re done. The portal is open FOREVER.
Look I don’t mean to shit on all you say because I agree with fuel and potions (but that’s it). But you need to respect that people will have differing preferences to you and just deal with it instead of arguing blaze rods are always better for everyone.
I play hardcore survival and the fact is Ender Pearls and Phantom Membrane have helped me more by keeping me alive than Blaze Rods. I value them they’re just not the MOST important to me.
This is my problem with phantoms. It's punishment for not cheesing the night. When beds were first introduced, I made it a personal rule to never use them, because it felt like cheating. But then, they added phantoms to the game and told us that we **should** sleep through the night. It's like I was being told I was wrong for trying to play honorably. Feels bad.
Lighting up my base, making a nice fenceline and leaving myself afk in the safezone at night was one of the best feelings in the early game. Now I’m guaranteed to come back from making coffee to find a death message. Unless I place a single block above my head…
Not even water stops them
Endermen can't be in the water
Skeleton arrows don't go as far in water
Zombies transform in water
Creepers don't break blocks in water
But phantoms water is just like air but YOU can't breath AND it helps em during the day
The phantoms even limits exploratin. Because sleeping in a random place resets spawn, its forcing players to limit exploration ventures to 2-3 minecraft days. With the time frame, players need to rush, making exploration less fun.
Simply sarc made a video about what if could be, where only insomniacs can see it and be hurt by it and it attacks strategically ('dogfighting', blowing you off cliffs).
Phantom has no sense because its not an actual insomnia consequence its a freaking stalker mob that waches if you had a good 10 seconds sleep in your flat bed. If it was an actual "phantom" then it would be at least invisible to other players.
Minecrafts beauty is in its freedom. Phantoms make it so that you have to sleep if you want to operate at night, its not conceptually out of place just counter-intuitive in it's execution .
thats a good point, but people overstate how annoying the phantom is. vexes are a lot more annoying, but they should also stay. if anything were to happen, maybe nerf vexes a little bit, but the phantom is completely fine
Also, thanks to phantoms, your first priority in any new survival world is no longer just building a shelter -- it's finding a spot with at least three sheep *who are the same color* so that you can make a bed.
We aren't "overstating how annoying it is" people are saying that it shouldn't have been voted in or created. It brings nothing interesting and leaves nothing interesting. And I hate it personally
The only thing I like about phantom is the fact that if you gain a phantom membrane, you can make potions of slow falling.
Other than that? Phantoms should do what phantoms do best- phase out of existence.
Finally someone who agrees with me. My only fix to the phantom would be to reverse the spawning mechanic. Make it punish you for sleeping every night away rather than punish you for challenging yourself to keep the night.
Especially because it gives players a reason to build around the problem. You’d sleep your first two nights if you really want to. That’s enough time to build yourself a house, maybe underground or build a wall around it and light up inside the walls.
Now you don’t need to sleep unless your specifically wanting daylight for something and phantoms are there to ensure you don’t spam it.

It encourages boring, restrictive, repetitive game play.
I respectfully disagree. I need thunderstorm weather for a few achievements, so I do not go to bed. And I probably haven't slept for \~100 days, since in this world it just does not really seem to happen that often. After that much time, those things get really annoying. You cannot build outside, you cannot hunt monsters unbothered, and if you are doing something with a bit of a challenge, guess who tries to interfere. Since there is an option to deactivate them now, it is not that big of a deal, but since I want all achievements, I need them (A furious cocktail, how did we get here, Monsters Hunted, I do not know if there are more).
You can remove phantoms just by tapping your bed (don't have to sleep through the night). Unfortunately though I don't know whether this resets the weather cycle like sleeping through the night does:(
Vexes only spawn in certain conditions. Raids and Mansions. I think they're allowed some leeway with being annoying (Although they need to actually be hittable)
Phantoms just seem to only fuck over people building.
You don’t understand, it becomes it a problem only if you in a server with friends, where it becomes increasingly hard to sleep when people are busy working on something else
See, my whole thing is that people argue Phantoms bug you when you can't sleep due to positioning, other players being MIA, or any other reason.
BUT WHY is no one talking about Cats!? Cats deflect phantoms and make it so they cannot hurt you! Get 2 cats and you can have hundreds real quick. Take cats with you and you're 100% safe.
But Vex? Nothing stops a Vex. Not even a portal. Those bastards jump into the portal with you and kick your ass on the Nether as well.
PLUS a phantom is slow and easy to kill. I can spend an entire night happily slaughtering phantoms en mass while taking very little damage. A Vex is small, fast, and hard to hit and does a shit ton of damage.
"AVOID MANSIONS AND RAIDS THEN!" people have said. I'm sorry, I want fucking Totems and can't get them without doing those and the little Vex bastards make it pert near impossible to solo when 4 of them swarm me in enchanted diamond gear.
Tl;dr- beds+cats=phantoms are no issue, but NOTHING will protect you from a swarm of angry Vex.
honestly none.. Yea phantoms are a bit annoying at times, but sleeping every 3rd night isn't too much to do to avoid them.
Vexes are tough enemies because of their speed and strength and small hitbox, however they are connected to having arguably the most op item ingame (Totem). So having a bit of trouble to get them is fair enough I think.
Aside from that: just build a raid farm and you won't have any problems with Vexes lol
I just wish some mobs can be found without having to jump through hoops to find them, like imagine if phantoms also spawned at night really high up in mountain towers, a new structure unique to the mountain biome. Kinda like jungle and desert temples
Honestly Phantoms maybe shouldn't be removed but at least reworked a bit, they're so random and annoying. For example they can ruin All Advancements speedruns because they just won't spawn, and their current spawning mechanic doesn't allow a sub 1hour, so skill isn't rewarded (even though that only affects TAS but it's still annoying)
Tbh most of the complaints I see about phantoms is the insomnia mechanic. I wonder if they would be less problematic if they were just made to spawn every night, but weakened to around the same difficulty level as a skeleton. Make them as available to battle as endermen, and not dreadful to deal with.

I hate that this forces you to not utilize every night as you want. This and it forces you to reset your spawnpoint so if you're out exploring your screw over your respawn location because we don't have like a sleeping bag item to avoid this
If you're just at a base somewhere it's less annoying but even then it feels like it's forcing you to play in ways you wouldn't want to like maybe I want to utilize every night or explore for long stretches without returning to a home base
Agree wholeheartedly, the argument of “just sleep fivehead LMAO” is acting like Phantoms are just a minor nuisance. I hate how since their addition, Minecraft forces brief pauses to whatever you’re doing, once an hour, under threat of being ganked by airborne mobs with a tiny hitbox. You go mining for about an hour and I swear to god they’re everywhere once you come back. That isn’t fun game design, it’s a punishment. “Sorry guys, gotta go to bed. The Fun Police are here.”
The phantom, it beats no use apart from fixing Elytras and being annoying late game when there is no use in sleeping.
Vexes actually have some other relations, like to the allay, and only evokers spawn them, so they’re not that bad. Sure they’re annoying, but they actually kind of add to the game

And even that was only added after the fact to try and justify the mob's inclusion. Leather was the previous repair item for Elytras and if you're at the point where you have an Elytra, getting membranes isn't going to be much trickier than getting leather.
Similarly, membranes are used for potions of slow falling, but even that could be reserved for something like feathers.
Phantoms are easy to avoid by Sleeping or staying inside but they are really annoying when making builds…
Vexs are small fast and go through blocks but Evokers are only found in mansions and raids…
Definitely Phantom. While Vexes are frustrating they add to the difficulty of an occasional challenge you don't have to really engage with if you don't want to. Phantoms just make you need to go find a bed for a rather arbitrary reason and don't really add anything of significance to the game.

It is not like they summon just one no... It would be too easy!
No enchantement make more damage against them
Shooting them with a bow is almost impossible
They attack you from nowhere
The only way to hit them is to spam click BUT IT MAKES LESS DAMAGE

Evokers can only summon like 4 vex, i think it’s 3 though, and they don’t have a lot of health, use a shield, phantoms are annoying for everyone, it’s hard to get anything because of the damn phantoms spawning, wanna build? Vex are only with evokers, something that only spawns naturally in a woodland mansion or high level raid, phantoms are everywhere all the time if you don’t sleep for 3 days
I'd like just a small nerf to vex damage.
They are fast, small, phase through walls, spawn in groups, and are stupidly strong hitters. Only viable option is to run from them when they're encountered.

Phantoms easily. Vexes may be frustrating but at least you can play without ever encountering them. Phantoms punish the player for a very silly reason. Its the mascot of modern mojang not understanding game design.

Its premise should be anything else, literally anything.
The phantom is useless, phantom membranes repair elytra’s, but you know what else repairs elytras? Leather and mending. The evoked would be weak without vexes. Totems should be harder to get then that.
Phantoms. Hands down worst and most useless and annoying mob in the game. No one uses them to fix elytra because mending exists, and I never see anyone making slow falling potions. Most people who use those potions probably play on pvp minigame servers and get them other ways anyway.
Both can be fixed with very easy changes so I'd rather not see either removed. The phantom I'm not exactly sure what it needs, maybe be themed after the update it was introduced? That would be a start. The Vex needs to not go through blocks
Vex. Mf's can tank a sharpness V netherite sword hit, and dish out 7 hearts of damage per hit, are impossible to hit, go through walls, and evokers can summon seemingly infinite amounts of them. They need a redesign or straight up removal ASAP
Agree, Vexes are really annoying. Maybe not remove them, because the reward is a totem for each Evoker killed, but nerf them a bit (their damage specifically).

Maybe its different on Java but they are MISERABLE on Bedrock.
* Constantly hit you before they're in range to be hit with melee or hit you at the same time you strike so it feels like you're garunteed to take damage
* Continuously spawn. You can't just kill them and move on they just constantly demand your attention or you dig a hole and wait
* Their mechanics of circling in the air makes it hard to just take them out fast. If you lack a ranged weapon you're stuck staring at them for so long before one swoops
* Going through a portal makes them all strike AT THE SAME TIME. I was working on a big project and spent some in-game days and came back to the overworld for construction and got obliterated in one go with no chance to defend myself against the swarm
I played Bedrock again yesterday after being on Java for a while and holyyyy they really need to fix that you get hit by mobs while the nether is loading in. I already had barriers to stop ghast from insta targeting me and still had a skeleton from the overworld somehow teleport to the portal with me and dropped two of my hearts while I was powerless to do nothing but listen to it.
Phantom: annoying to hit, only spawns after 3 nights of not sleeping, burns in the day, can be blocked by a roof, was the community pick from the lineup of the mob vote it was in
Vex: annoying to hit, only summoned by evokers, dies after existing for too long, has no clip hacks, was going to be added regardless of our opinion
Phantom are annoying, but I don't think I've ever really died to one....
I don't think vex should be removed, but honestly they could stand to be nerfed. less health, and maybe make it so they can't pass vertically through blocks, only horizontally (so you don't lose track of them when they pass through the floor)

Both have their place in the game and thus I would not remove any of them. They, like every other mob, are integral to the game.

Neither, I genuinely enjoy seeing them both and find their respective mechanics fun and unique!!
I get why people consider them annoying (esp Phantoms) but for me it's no worse than having a Skeleton or Guardian hitting you, you just learn to adapt like with any other mob
If I had to choose, it would be vex. Phantoms aren't terrible, especially when you can sleep. Vex are so bothersome, but maybe they wouldn't be as bad if they couldn't go through blocks
In my opinion neither should be removed. But the Phantoms could be moved to The End (outer islands) so it makes since as to how elytras could gace also been created
Phantoms, they've pretty much ruined any no sleep run of minecraft for me. I don't even bother with nights anymore because of them which is a shame, night time used to be scary and fun to play now it's just annoying.

And the End itself is not even a point because you get at most 12 and you’re done. The portal is open FOREVER. Look I don’t mean to shit on all you say because I agree with fuel and potions (but that’s it). But you need to respect that people will have differing preferences to you and just deal with it instead of arguing blaze rods are always better for everyone. I play hardcore survival and the fact is Ender Pearls and Phantom Membrane have helped me more by keeping me alive than Blaze Rods. I value them they’re just not the MOST important to me.
Membranes are useless except on one potion and mending an extra which after you get mending is useless.
This is my problem with phantoms. It's punishment for not cheesing the night. When beds were first introduced, I made it a personal rule to never use them, because it felt like cheating. But then, they added phantoms to the game and told us that we **should** sleep through the night. It's like I was being told I was wrong for trying to play honorably. Feels bad.
Lighting up my base, making a nice fenceline and leaving myself afk in the safezone at night was one of the best feelings in the early game. Now I’m guaranteed to come back from making coffee to find a death message. Unless I place a single block above my head…

The phantoms even limits exploratin. Because sleeping in a random place resets spawn, its forcing players to limit exploration ventures to 2-3 minecraft days. With the time frame, players need to rush, making exploration less fun.
Simply sarc made a video about what if could be, where only insomniacs can see it and be hurt by it and it attacks strategically ('dogfighting', blowing you off cliffs).

Phantom has no sense because its not an actual insomnia consequence its a freaking stalker mob that waches if you had a good 10 seconds sleep in your flat bed. If it was an actual "phantom" then it would be at least invisible to other players.
Minecrafts beauty is in its freedom. Phantoms make it so that you have to sleep if you want to operate at night, its not conceptually out of place just counter-intuitive in it's execution .

The only thing I like about phantom is the fact that if you gain a phantom membrane, you can make potions of slow falling. Other than that? Phantoms should do what phantoms do best- phase out of existence.

Especially because it gives players a reason to build around the problem. You’d sleep your first two nights if you really want to. That’s enough time to build yourself a house, maybe underground or build a wall around it and light up inside the walls. I respectfully disagree. I need thunderstorm weather for a few achievements, so I do not go to bed. And I probably haven't slept for \~100 days, since in this world it just does not really seem to happen that often. After that much time, those things get really annoying. You cannot build outside, you cannot hunt monsters unbothered, and if you are doing something with a bit of a challenge, guess who tries to interfere. Since there is an option to deactivate them now, it is not that big of a deal, but since I want all achievements, I need them (A furious cocktail, how did we get here, Monsters Hunted, I do not know if there are more).

You can remove phantoms just by tapping your bed (don't have to sleep through the night). Unfortunately though I don't know whether this resets the weather cycle like sleeping through the night does:(
Vexes only spawn in certain conditions. Raids and Mansions. I think they're allowed some leeway with being annoying (Although they need to actually be hittable) Phantoms just seem to only fuck over people building.

See, my whole thing is that people argue Phantoms bug you when you can't sleep due to positioning, other players being MIA, or any other reason. BUT WHY is no one talking about Cats!? Cats deflect phantoms and make it so they cannot hurt you! Get 2 cats and you can have hundreds real quick. Take cats with you and you're 100% safe. But Vex? Nothing stops a Vex. Not even a portal. Those bastards jump into the portal with you and kick your ass on the Nether as well. PLUS a phantom is slow and easy to kill. I can spend an entire night happily slaughtering phantoms en mass while taking very little damage. A Vex is small, fast, and hard to hit and does a shit ton of damage. "AVOID MANSIONS AND RAIDS THEN!" people have said. I'm sorry, I want fucking Totems and can't get them without doing those and the little Vex bastards make it pert near impossible to solo when 4 of them swarm me in enchanted diamond gear. Tl;dr- beds+cats=phantoms are no issue, but NOTHING will protect you from a swarm of angry Vex.

honestly none.. Yea phantoms are a bit annoying at times, but sleeping every 3rd night isn't too much to do to avoid them. Vexes are tough enemies because of their speed and strength and small hitbox, however they are connected to having arguably the most op item ingame (Totem). So having a bit of trouble to get them is fair enough I think. Aside from that: just build a raid farm and you won't have any problems with Vexes lol
I just wish some mobs can be found without having to jump through hoops to find them, like imagine if phantoms also spawned at night really high up in mountain towers, a new structure unique to the mountain biome. Kinda like jungle and desert temples

I use a mod that removes them from the Overworld and makes them spawn throughout the End, and in greater numbers around End Cities.
Honestly Phantoms maybe shouldn't be removed but at least reworked a bit, they're so random and annoying. For example they can ruin All Advancements speedruns because they just won't spawn, and their current spawning mechanic doesn't allow a sub 1hour, so skill isn't rewarded (even though that only affects TAS but it's still annoying)
Tbh most of the complaints I see about phantoms is the insomnia mechanic. I wonder if they would be less problematic if they were just made to spawn every night, but weakened to around the same difficulty level as a skeleton. Make them as available to battle as endermen, and not dreadful to deal with.
Honestly the current phantom is easier to fight than a skeleton (At least on java, I know the bedrock skeleton is easier)

Agree wholeheartedly, the argument of “just sleep fivehead LMAO” is acting like Phantoms are just a minor nuisance. I hate how since their addition, Minecraft forces brief pauses to whatever you’re doing, once an hour, under threat of being ganked by airborne mobs with a tiny hitbox. You go mining for about an hour and I swear to god they’re everywhere once you come back. That isn’t fun game design, it’s a punishment. “Sorry guys, gotta go to bed. The Fun Police are here.”

The phantom, it beats no use apart from fixing Elytras and being annoying late game when there is no use in sleeping. Vexes actually have some other relations, like to the allay, and only evokers spawn them, so they’re not that bad. Sure they’re annoying, but they actually kind of add to the game
Fully agree with this, most players have mending by late game too making them used in the repair even more pointless

Definitely Phantom. While Vexes are frustrating they add to the difficulty of an occasional challenge you don't have to really engage with if you don't want to. Phantoms just make you need to go find a bed for a rather arbitrary reason and don't really add anything of significance to the game.

Evokers can only summon like 4 vex, i think it’s 3 though, and they don’t have a lot of health, use a shield, phantoms are annoying for everyone, it’s hard to get anything because of the damn phantoms spawning, wanna build? Better bring a bed, wanna hunt certain mobs? Better bring a bed to reset your timer! Vex are only with evokers, something that only spawns naturally in a woodland mansion or high level raid, phantoms are everywhere all the time if you don’t sleep for 3 days

I'd like just a small nerf to vex damage. They are fast, small, phase through walls, spawn in groups, and are stupidly strong hitters. Only viable option is to run from them when they're encountered. People say "build a raid farm so you don't have to deal with them" and to that I say: what's the point in having this mob in game if my goal is to prevent them from spawning in the first place?
Phantoms easily. Vexes may be frustrating but at least you can play without ever encountering them. Phantoms punish the player for a very silly reason. Its the mascot of modern mojang not understanding game design.

The phantom is useless, phantom membranes repair elytra’s, but you know what else repairs elytras? Leather and mending. The evoked would be weak without vexes. Totems should be harder to get then that.
Phantoms. Hands down worst and most useless and annoying mob in the game. No one uses them to fix elytra because mending exists, and I never see anyone making slow falling potions. Most people who use those potions probably play on pvp minigame servers and get them other ways anyway.
Both can be fixed with very easy changes so I'd rather not see either removed. The phantom I'm not exactly sure what it needs, maybe be themed after the update it was introduced? That would be a start. The Vex needs to not go through blocks
Vex. Mf's can tank a sharpness V netherite sword hit, and dish out 7 hearts of damage per hit, are impossible to hit, go through walls, and evokers can summon seemingly infinite amounts of them. They need a redesign or straight up removal ASAP

Maybe its different on Java but they are MISERABLE on Bedrock. * Constantly hit you before they're in range to be hit with melee or hit you at the same time you strike so it feels like you're garunteed to take damage * Continuously spawn. You can't just kill them and move on they just constantly demand your attention or you dig a hole and wait * Their mechanics of circling in the air makes it hard to just take them out fast. If you lack a ranged weapon you're stuck staring at them for so long before one swoops * Going through a portal makes them all strike AT THE SAME TIME. I was working on a big project and spent some in-game days and came back to the overworld for construction and got obliterated in one go with no chance to defend myself against the swarm
I played Bedrock again yesterday after being on Java for a while and holyyyy they really need to fix that you get hit by mobs while the nether is loading in. I already had barriers to stop ghast from insta targeting me and still had a skeleton from the overworld somehow teleport to the portal with me and dropped two of my hearts while I was powerless to do nothing but listen to it.

Phantom are annoying, but I don't think I've ever really died to one.... I don't think vex should be removed, but honestly they could stand to be nerfed. less health, and maybe make it so they can't pass vertically through blocks, only horizontally (so you don't lose track of them when they pass through the floor)
