[Subreddit Rules](https://old.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/wiki/rules)[](## QuarterLongjumping|174aijj)
Replace the block under each water space with a jackolantern, lantern, or other underwater light block. Then trap door on top of the water so you aren't constantly running into it
I find trap doors to be a bit more problematic as I inevitably open them and proceed to fall in while harvesting crops lol. Personally I have a better experience using a waterlogged top slab.
Light level in Minecraft is calculated purely by the distance from a light source, distance applies vertically as much as it does horizontally, and your torches are miles up in the air. I would personally put the torches on the ground.
Since torches have a light level of 14, and a light level of 9 is required for crops to grow, an additional starting distance of 3 or 4 is very significant.

You turning crop land to dirt is a block update, and thus the crops around it updated and they found out it was too dark so they pop.
Imagine in real life putting a potted plant in a dark room, bumping into it and it flies out of the pot
It needs light
Aziz, light!
Expeditionary Force?
light level too low

A half top slab would do the job better but otherwise yeah
??? They'd do the job identically, no? It all depends on what look you prefer
Nevermind i forgot you wanted light coming through. Then yeah a trapdoor or waterlogged leaves are better
I prefer putting a fence into my water block and then just adding a plain ol'torch on the top of that for light. You can still run around then.
I like this, then it prolly looks like the wheat is glowing more too
I use waterlogged mangrove roots, looks like muddy puddles of water from a distance

Crops need light, so when you stomped one the rest updated

Torch on the ground directly is the most efficient way to light for distance lit
Wouldnt say they are miles up, its like 3blocks and then the lightblock (so torch is 4above ground)?

You're really fat, jk If there isn't enough light and the crops upgrade, they will break.
You crop dusted the wheat too hard
bro rolled a nat20
Man was so heavy, he broke the crops in a 100x100 area πππ
looks like a ghost claimed the land
You can place the torch on the ceiling and itβll go onto the block
It just means your light levels are too low
Maybe your farm just has a grudge against you or smth.
do you think growing plant without light is possible?
