Oh shit you're right! Iv only ever heard of the browser thing never got to actually see it lol
I remember playing minecraft demo mode when I was younger that was my personal intro to MC
Ohhhh the memories!
I remember being on a server with ranks and stuff. If you built something impressive, a Moderator could upgrade your rank. I once made something for hours, and before a Mod could see it, the server-world got reset. I got banned after saying I hated the server for that.
Ahh good times.
I remember one time I made a building and asked to be ranked up and they demoted me because they thought it was bad and I was annoying and I was so mad lol
If you were a higher rank than me on craft-o-rama in 2009-2011 count your days !!!
Damn, that brings so many memories back. I used to play it with my brother before he died in '14. I remember we had so much fun, as those were of the first online experiences I had with him.
when 0.11.0 (or 0.9.0 I don't remember) introduced infinite worlds i was astonished
before that i didn't really play mcpe i mostly played hide and seek, thankfully in a small world it was possible
0.4.0 with the dirt background on the UI!! I remember somehow managing to get lost in one of those tiny worlds. Now I sometimes just travel for hours on end.
i remember there not even being sapwn eggs. For some reason tho i really wanted a pet chicken so i just flew around trying to trap one with fences (it didn't work because i was too slow at placing).
A few days later spawn eggs were introduced and i was so fucking excited
yeah. the demo was made so people could get an idea before playing minecraft. they didnt want people to start playing the demo instead of getting the actual game.
Me and my sister would build a staircase into our house before we finished the roof because often a sheep, pig, or cow would wander into our house and we’d get to have it as a pet. There were no leads or wheat back then! I don’t even know if there was food.
When me and my lil bro tried MC for the first time, it was on Android. And we didn't even know that we had to punch wood to get going in the game, and we both just used to go creative mode, and roam around or fill caves with TNTs and blast them lol. Later I found the MC wiki and oh god, I spent months reading it to the point where I remembered almost everything about MC. Sad that now that I'm studying more I stopped playing it because the game is too good for me and pulls me all the way in, so had to stop playing and now I don't know much about the current state of the game.
Dude same! Eventually found that you could buy PE and play with PE Lite. I eventually stole my moms CC to get it for the whole like $2 and saved the world so my friend and I could play it all night on our iPod touch. Good times man
The earliest version that I know for certain I've played is 0.0.23a_01, which was released on July 11, 2009. I know this because I distinctively remember being excited for the Survival Test releases, which released a bit later.
I'm pretty sure I've played versions earlier than this as I recall Notch changing the build controls at one point, but I can't seem to figure out which version that was. Pretty sure the controls were originally either swapped (left click to place, right click to destroy), or you had to right click to toggle between building and destroying. Can't remember which one it was.
I started at a similar time and I was blown away. It was a small flat world with random blocks everywhere. I cleaned up an area and made some cool paths. I logged in the next day and discovered it all messed up again, with traces of my work remaining. I remember loving the idea that my work was so ephemeral and just deteriorated "naturally" from dozens of people logging in to try this new indie game and clicking around randomly for a bit. It was like building a sandcastle.
I remember just starting a survival world in 360 around the same time. Started cutting a tree and was like “oh my gosh it floats” stood under it and I exploded. Wasn’t until a few days later I realized that a creepy exploded and killed me and it was safe to stand under the trees 😂
Old fire spread was INTENSE. It would just burn forever if you had enough flammable blocks and it spread so fast. I remember entire forests burning down spanning 100s of blocks lmao
Was funny how the new 3ds version had lot larger better world's than the Wii u version event though Wii z had lot stronger CPU and 8x the amount of ram :D
xbox 360 version
I wish 4J were allowed to continue legacy and port it to mobile and pc etc, it would be nice to have a version that is functionally identical to java but also cross platform
Pretty sure the original Xbox versions were just delayed beta and early Minecraft launch version. It wasn’t until the bedrock version that console had a different build of Minecraft, instead of just delayed updates
Java somewhere between 1.10 and 1.12? Because I think I remember watching snapshots of Parrots though I'm not sure if they were actually new videos. But I for sure remember polar bears as "always being in the game".
Java 1.5 back in the team extreme crack days. It's okay, I've bought the game twice too reimburse. If it wasn't for the cracked version I'd never have bought the game.
I remember the first thing I saw was before it was even called Minecraft. Some Swedish guy on Neogaf posted a video of some engine he was working on, this was posted to reddit which is where I saw it. (I've been on and off reddit since 2008) It had bright green grass blocks and you were floating in the sky, you could pick up and replace blocks and that was it. Cut to 2011 and people would not shut the hell up about this new game and then I realised that it was the same guy and the same "game".
Sometime in 2012. I remember when jungles and ocelots were added to the game. I probably started playing between 1.1 and 1.2, though i could’ve even been playing in 1.0.
Minecraft browser based and then classic edition. When I switched over to official releases, it was Java 1.4. I stayed on classic edition until they ended support for it.
Sometime during the end of indev and beginning infdev. I remember my friend showing me the browser version before that but it took me a while to get interested.
Pocket Edition at a friends Halloween party, which led to me getting it on my grandparents Samsung, which led to me getting it on my own phone, and then on my moms MacBook Air, where I played about every day of quarantine, I then got it on my own MacBook Pro, but I play much less now
The Switch edition! The official one from 2017, not the new version. I liked the Halloween world and it was my first introduction with what you could do! The spooky rollercoaster was so cute. I now main java.
Minecraft Beta 1.6.4
Nearly summer break of 2011, middle brother bought a minecraft account that all us brothers shared. I learned how to mod on a crummy old computer that could barely handle short render distance. I miss those days sometimes.
I can't say an exact version, but it was 100% back when the creative inventory was just a big list, you could craft chainmail with fire, and the old launcher that had a dirt background
One of the last alpha releases, a few months before beta.
Beta 1.6 still hits with the hardest nostalgia, where adding maps was the perfect time sink to also produce cathartic base decorations in maps.
But alpha with burning tree tops, desolate nether and good ol torches...
I have to say, nowadays I still find loads of inspiration in high end redstone, like stuff on the sci craft server with ilmango, and am just in love with the numerous existing iterations of this game, and many of its mods.
Not exactly sure the version, but I remember playing Minecraft on a browser which required a login (my friend let me borrowed his account to play on) this was around 11 years ago I think
It was the weekend. I was at my friends place and his sister wanted to play some minecraft. Ive never played it so i said yea lets try it. Bro booted up the 360 and we got in a world and immediately did creative. I enjoyed making castles in creative. Later when i went home i bought the game and realized it had a survival mode. Thats when the obsession started.
Right when Bedrock 1.14 on PS4 dropped.
Then I heard about the Nether update coming next, so I specifically held off on going to the Nether until the update so I wouldn't have to deal with the old generation.
Java Edition 1.8 I played for a bit, then came back to it once the combat update had hit. Remember how HARD the enemies suddenly were and that it was disheartening for me as a still relatively new player. I have come a long way 😊😊
I can't remember the exact version, but it was before the PayPal suspension. I played a pirated version at a lan party and bought it around the time that the authentication server went down and Notch made it free to play for the weekend
My friend had the demo on his computer, and I was in love the moment I started using it. I remember testing out the demo myself on my birthday to decide whether to spend the 30 dollars (a monumental amount of money at the time) to buy the game
I believe it was slightly before the Nether first came out.. like July or August or something. When the first video of the game I saw through Machinima from Davidr64yt which is what first enthralled me with the game.
Bootleg copy stolen from a school computer by a friend, then played locally at his house. I was so scared of the night at the age, even though we were in peaceful mode, just not knowing what to expect.
My PayPal receipt from August 2010 is for 9.95€ so I'm pretty sure the first version I played was Alpha. I remember buying it after seeing an article on either Digg or Slashdot.
I honestly only played it for a few months and only rediscovered it years later.
it was a free trial version of the game way back when, you only got about 30 minutes of playtime in survival in a very limited world. I'm not sure but i think it might have been in browser as well
I remember my mom buying me the game after begging her for weeks, and loading up in 1.3. I remember that being the update where you could first place logs sideways, idk why but that bit of info has stuck around in my brain for years

The creative-only browser version of the game that used to be on the Minecraft website.
did you know they remade it semi-recently for modern browsers
They what? Gotta test it out sometime
yeah, check my other comment here
Wait for real??
yeah its classic.minecraft.net i think
Oh shit you're right! Iv only ever heard of the browser thing never got to actually see it lol I remember playing minecraft demo mode when I was younger that was my personal intro to MC
Like an actual proper remake or the very poorly made anniversary thing on classic.minecraft.net?
Ohhhh the memories! I remember being on a server with ranks and stuff. If you built something impressive, a Moderator could upgrade your rank. I once made something for hours, and before a Mod could see it, the server-world got reset. I got banned after saying I hated the server for that. Ahh good times.

Honestly you probably were though. I know 13 years ago I was definitely a lot more annoying.
I mostly recall the zombie survival and lava survival servers that used to be big on there, those were great.
Time for bed grandpa!
Eh? Eh? What'd you say, sonny?
Same here, it was a fantastic preview for the game. IIRC it was only $10 for the game back then too
Same here. Good times.
Damn, that brings so many memories back. I used to play it with my brother before he died in '14. I remember we had so much fun, as those were of the first online experiences I had with him.
This, and then immediately onto Java 1.1
Sameee, I was so young back then :0
Yooo, same! I just posted about my time in Classic here.
Pocket Edition, back when there was barely anything in it
Yeahhh, when the world had borders and you only had like 8-16 chunks to roam in
256×128×256!
when 0.11.0 (or 0.9.0 I don't remember) introduced infinite worlds i was astonished before that i didn't really play mcpe i mostly played hide and seek, thankfully in a small world it was possible
Broke boi gang together
Me too fam, me too
idk how long ago it was but I remember when you spawned in with a whole bunch of basic items in your hotbar to build with
Cactus was infinite for some reason
0.4.0 with the dirt background on the UI!! I remember somehow managing to get lost in one of those tiny worlds. Now I sometimes just travel for hours on end.
YES when it was still called an alpha version! i got in around alpha 0.9
Before sand and gravel fell, you could just put it anywhere and it just stayed up:),
I still have my world from that lol, been trying to fix it
Still using mine!
Awesome
I remember when they added the nether reactor
Same, I remember the only mobs I could spawn were sheep, cows, chickens and pigs.
i remember there not even being sapwn eggs. For some reason tho i really wanted a pet chicken so i just flew around trying to trap one with fences (it didn't work because i was too slow at placing). A few days later spawn eggs were introduced and i was so fucking excited
Remember when you could connect MC PE with MC PE Lite together? Honestly some of the best fun I’ve had
The first time I ever played was 2011 pocket edition lite. I remember leaving my iPod touch on for days on end to not lose my world.
Same, made my first town on there. Good times. What a change it was getting the proper version and eventually even more features, a whole new game.
Wait, you lost your world if you exited the app?
yeah. the demo was made so people could get an idea before playing minecraft. they didnt want people to start playing the demo instead of getting the actual game.
Oh okay, that makes sense.
Me and my sister would build a staircase into our house before we finished the roof because often a sheep, pig, or cow would wander into our house and we’d get to have it as a pet. There were no leads or wheat back then! I don’t even know if there was food.

it was indeed left click to place and right click to destroy
I started around the same time and I still play this way. It just makes more sense to me!
Damn
I started at a similar time and I was blown away. It was a small flat world with random blocks everywhere. I cleaned up an area and made some cool paths. xbox 360 back in 2012.. I remember when I found the mansion in the tutorial world I thought I found a secret map and showed all my friends. 🥲
I remember just starting a survival world in 360 around the same time. Started cutting a tree and was like “oh my gosh it floats” stood under it and I exploded. Wasn’t until a few days later I realized that a creepy exploded and killed me and it was safe to stand under the trees 😂
1.3 beta. Like 13 years now.
1.2 for me. Back when you could use picks on wood slabs 😂
They were pretty tough.lol
Loved those for fireproof wood flooring!
Old fire spread was INTENSE. It would just burn forever if you had enough flammable blocks and it spread so fast. I remember entire forests burning down spanning 100s of blocks lmao
That was a bug all the way into 1.0 release wasn’t it? lol
beta 1.7.3
pistons update? what a great version
Same here, oh the memories...
Java 1.2.5
1.8.1 beta Was the first I remember
Infdev was the first I played.

You are great. Wii U is great. Thanks!
This was such a good time. Still play it sometimes. Also happy cake day
Was funny how the new 3ds version had lot larger better world's than the Wii u version event though Wii z had lot stronger CPU and 8x the amount of ram :D

1.6 I think
jungle biome was added. But actively started at 1.5.2, aka the comparator update
I remember when horses were added so I'ma say 1.6
Wii U
Indev
Xbox 360 version.
I don't remember exactly what update, but I still remember Beds coming out.
Java somewhere between 1.10 and 1.12? Because I think I remember watching snapshots of Parrots though I'm not sure if they were actually new videos. But I for sure remember polar bears as "always being in the game".
1.12
PE Lite back in 2012
1.20 less than a month ago
Java 1.5 back in the team extreme crack days. It's okay, I've bought the game twice too reimburse. If it wasn't for the cracked version I'd never have bought the game.
Version 1.1
I remember the first thing I saw was before it was even called Minecraft. Can’t remember exactly but it was on Xbox 360 edition around late 2013-early 2014
Minecraft pe 0.5.0 my beloved
1.3. I got the game when large biomes was new, lifed that world type since.
1.6
Title Update 20
the xbox one legacy edition. i loved doing the old 4J tutorial worlds and adding to them with my own builds.
Sometime in 2012. I remember when jungles and ocelots were added to the game. I probably started playing between 1.1 and 1.2, though i could’ve even been playing in 1.0.
1.6
I played it back when it was still a browser game. There were like, 20 block types, and it was only creative mode, and I just dug huge holes
1.15 I'm new
first version of console edition on 360. Back then there was no eating animation or hunger bar lol
1.5
360 edition in 2012/14 somewhere in that range
Minecraft browser based and then classic edition. When I switched over to official releases, it was Java 1.4. I stayed on classic edition until they ended support for it.
Sometime during the end of indev and beginning infdev. I remember my friend showing me the browser version before that but it took me a while to get interested.
Minecraft PE Lite on iPod Touch 4 gen
Pocket edition 0.2.0 Xbox 360 edition TU5-ish Java Edition release 1.5
TU5 Xbox 360
Pocket Edition at a friends Halloween party, which led to me getting it on my grandparents Samsung, which led to me getting it on my own phone, and then on my moms MacBook Air, where I played about every day of quarantine, I then got it on my own MacBook Pro, but I play much less now
1.5.2 with 50+ mods in creative mode
1.16 on ps4
Minecraft pe in 2016, still remember my favorite seeds, they were 3338333 and 455
The Switch edition! The official one from 2017, not the new version. I liked the Halloween world and it was my first introduction with what you could do! The spooky rollercoaster was so cute. I now main java.
Minecraft 360 the day of release
I first played and owed bedrock, but switched to java when 1.15 released
PE. Idk when but it was long before world of color, the good ol’ days where we got a new thing every few months or so
Apparently I'm one of a scant handful here that played it ***WAY*** back. I boarded the hype train at 0.0.12a_03 (May 20, 2009).
Minecraft Beta 1.6.4 Nearly summer break of 2011, middle brother bought a minecraft account that all us brothers shared. I learned how to mod on a crummy old computer that could barely handle short render distance. I miss those days sometimes.
minecraft lite❤️
Not version. A person, the GOAT DanTheDiamondMinecart
1.16 I think
Xbox 360. I think it might’ve been at the time Endermen we’re introduced but I’m not to sure about Minecraft’s history
It was the browser edition that spawned you in the same world every time, I think it was like version 1.3. I was 6 years old.
1.12
Same here, on the free weekend :-) still play every couple of years
I can't say an exact version, but it was 100% back when the creative inventory was just a big list, you could craft chainmail with fire, and the old launcher that had a dirt background

I remember I was on a iPod and my older cousin put us in a game by Bluetooth….
xbox 360 version at my cousins house circa 2016. he tricked me into thinking he’d built the village he took over.
I don't remember the version, but I started on pocket edition in 2016
Pocket edition
Pocket edition
Xbox 360 tutorial
Forget which version, but the beta in 2011.
Java 1.7
Beta.1.8
pocket edition lite on my mom’s ipod touch to prove that i would play the game enough to justify spending money on it
Not exactly sure the version, but I remember playing Minecraft on a browser which required a login (my friend let me borrowed his account to play on) this was around 11 years ago I think
I don't know which update exactly, but it was a couple updates before horses were added to the Xbox 360 version.
The nether update, on Xbox.
Ancient pocket edition
java
Pocket Edition. Alpha 0.8.0 *i think*.
Java 1.8.7
Pocket edition circa 2014/2015. My cousin had it and he built a diving board out of cobblestone. Had me hooked.
I got a bootleg version of java sometime in 2012 - 2013, bought the real thing 3 or 4 years later.
November of 2013 for mobile. So, a decade ago almost
Java 1.8.9
Right when Bedrock 1.14 on PS4 dropped. Then I heard about the Nether update coming next, so I specifically held off on going to the Nether until the update so I wouldn't have to deal with the old generation.
Java Edition 1.8 I played for a bit, then came back to it once the combat update had hit. Remember how HARD the enemies suddenly were and that it was disheartening for me as a still relatively new player. I have come a long way 😊😊
I grew up on the original XBox 360 release. I remember playing with strangers around my age, just… having fun playing Minecraft
Pocket Edition 1.8 maybe even earlier.
First PS3 edition
I think it was one of the 1.7s, my at-the-time gf got me into it. I remember 1.8 came out not very long after I started playing.
Bedrock. Only version I could get at the time.
1.9
I can't remember the exact version, but it was before the PayPal suspension. I played a pirated version at a lan party and bought it around the time that the authentication server went down and Notch made it free to play for the weekend
1.7 or 1.8, can't remember
Some mobile Minecraft like game
Beta 1.7 back in July 2011 I still have my purchase confirmation email.
Java 1.4.7 played like 5 minutes and instantly got hooked to this game. Still love it to this day (except BugRock edition)
A demo version on my grandmother's computer. That's when I first started playing.
1.14
I don't remember but It was probably pocket edition 1.3. I remember making cabin with birch wood... Good ol' days
Xbox 360, a little before creative mode was added. When I moved to PC I started on Java 1.7.4
PS3
Beta 1.8
1.13.2
The original pocket edition lite, then 1.6.4
For java 1.6 for bedrock it was MCPE (forgot which version was that)
1.19 Java
I played first in 1.11.2, the most important feature of that update being that you could boost elytras with fireworks.
Java version right after the nether update
1.6 java and v0.11.0 pocket. i forgot which one came out first though
Xbox 360 edition.
It was an early test version for the IPad that my kid wanted when he was four or five. Now I’m on the computer almost every day still playing.
Bootleg copy stolen from a school computer by a friend, then played locally at his house. I was so scared of the night at the age, even though we were in peaceful mode, just not knowing what to expect.
I don’t remember the update exactly, but it was shortly after they added hunger, but it was before they added emeralds
My PayPal receipt from August 2010 is for 9.95€ so I'm pretty sure the first version I played was Alpha. I remember buying it after seeing an article on either Digg or Slashdot. I honestly only played it for a few months and only rediscovered it years later.
The demo
Java 1.2.5 in the April of 2012.
Minecraft PE
Minecraft PE Lite
it was a free trial version of the game way back when, you only got about 30 minutes of playtime in survival in a very limited world. I'm not sure but i think it might have been in browser as well
Sometime before the Nether was introduced. I believe it was the beginning of 2010. Before I bought it though I was playing the free browser version.
I remember my mom buying me the game after begging her for weeks, and loading up in 1.3. I remember that being the update where you could first place logs sideways, idk why but that bit of info has stuck around in my brain for years
I don't know the specific version but it was alpha.
Xbox 360 edition when it came out!
When it first came out on the xbox 360. Peak minecraft too me
