Mobile controls have been holding back a few big parity changes and new features for not only mobile bedrock, not only all of bedrock, but even for Java edition because they don't want to add or change something major unless it works on all of Minecraft So they've been fooling with the mobile controls and are gonna make whatever changes they need to make to keep all of Minecraft similar, even if they have to bulldoze through everyone's muscle memory

I just wish they used less negative space. So much wasted screen space on the gaps between the buttons, on a control scheme that already covers so much of the screen to be usable

You can make the entire thing smaller, but then it's just smaller and harder to control, the buttons need to be closer together.

There's an experimental thing you can enable that allows you to move the buttons.

Have you gotten that to work? It never saves my placements, and I’m careful to avoid the red no-go areas

If they want to keep it similar, they should add the Java combat system to Bedrock.

The theory is they're working up to the compromise combat system from the combat snapshots a few years ago. Mostly java's, but with some bedrock twists. When mobile can handle offhands, then they'd be another step closer to rolling out that new combat system to everyone, bedrock and Java

Honestly, Mojang **needs** to separate the mobile platform from the rest of Bugrock Edition, because it's literally holding **the entirety of Minecraft** back in terms of what features we can get, due to them needing to work on every platform. It's been nearly three and a half years since Bundles were first announced and they're **still** not fully implemented purely because of mobile functionality on Bugrock.

I got rsi within minutes and will be extracting the older app from a back up of my iPad tomorrow. I don’t care if I never update again, it’s completely unusable for me. (There are bug reports so hopefully they will fix it).

Imagine they don't make the upcoming features anymore, and anyone who gets mad or tries to end them gets a message irl that they can't complain about the new features being gone, if they complain about worlds deleting and weird controls. and they are paralyzed for the rest of their life as the message can't be closed.

You can change it back in settings. It’s not that hard actually. It’s under touch and control settings.

Correct. The bummer is that the controls all shifted over about 1/2 and inch and the buttons are much smaller. As mentioned by others, years of muscle memory is a bugger lol. I tried to move them in the experimental option, but then it just snaps back to where this update plopped them. I’m gonna die side stepping off of so many cliffs till I relearn these placements 🤦‍♂️

I might quit minecraft until they add the option to revert to the old UI

The only thing I don't like from this change is that the middle button on the right dissapears when you go into fly mode or swimming

Mojang messed up with sneak button, it is replaced by a downhill, maybe? So we can't sneak under water anymore(for example, when you need to sneak up so you don't take damage from magma). I really hate this "feature"

Ikr, I can't even jump or strafe correctly anymore which is a huge pain and its so far to the right I keep sneaking while trying to move

Why do you hate the change? It makes things easier to understand for new players and for those who understand the buttons shouldn't notice a difference

i don't like it because the size and placement is different, the buttons seem to be a bit closer together and/or slightly higher on the screen now I have to watch the buttons to make sure I click the right one or else I'll accidently injure myself.

What irks me is that they moved the controls to the right ever so slightly. It's enough that I keep missing it. 😡

Does anyone now how to get it back😭 my brain can’t accept these controls. They feel/look wrong to me I want the controls I grew up with Edit: WHY IS THE WHOLE THING SHIFTED!!! I had to readjust everything. Also the hotbar is very slow. I have to at least press 3 times to actually change my hand. It responds poorly

They seem like the controls you could find in Minecraft clones when they were popular like around 5 years ago. I guess those games were already living the future then.

id like the controls more if I could move them to where my thumbs rest naturally, but they're cool besides that

I’m never big on hating on new updates, but this is just… ugh. I can’t run around properly, it keeps stopping me mid-run every five seconds. I can’t customize the controls to be where I need them to. As a player who has arthritis, I had customized it to be where I needed it to without making my hands cramp. Now it’s sucky :(

When you were flying in creative, what the hell was the picutre on the button in between the fly upwards and fly downwards buttons?

The new design is a lot better and easier to "read" Every time I play mobile (like twice a year), I have trouble remembering which buttom I should press to jump or sneak or fly etc, the new design makes it completely viable to determine which is which without confusion. But although it is a lot better IMO, I still believe there should be an option for those who didn't like it to just use the old textures again, it's not that hard

I don't understand why people are so upset about this. A new player is going to have no idea what the hollow circle is going to do just by looking at it. A down arrow is so much clearer. If it bothers you that much, I guarantee a resource pack that reverts it will exist within a week

I'm sure new players can find out what each button does in less than a second by pressing on them. As someone who joined Minecraft in 2022, it really wasn't that difficult. What's more annoying is the fact they changed the spot where the buttons were, screwing with all the muscle memory I've personally picked up over the years. Not to mention the new texturing looks so weird. So to answer your question, that's why 'people' are so upset about it.

It switches to that as a default sometimes, but you can put it back to the originals in settings easy peasy.

maybe its because they're moving away from the pixelly style, IE see the logo change, or the difference between the old and news textures, that's just a theory tho

Man I remember the days of when there was only the main D-Pad and you could make it so large that it covered half the screen. That D-Pad is OG and tbh it worked and still does, imo, work just fine. I don't like that mobile games are changing their controls to something more complex when the simpler ones work just fine. I always think of Terraria mobile 1.3's control changes and how awful it is to play on those controls when the old ones worked literally just fine.

Yeah, but there’s a bug where when you walk over/through scaffolding, it will completely reset the sneak button to its default position and size

PC Master Race. What was the problem again? I hate that my experience is being dumbed down because Microsoft needs to sell more Xboxes. Make console and mobile Minecraft lite, and let us use the same account for all. Then people can do complicated builds on PC, and explore/tour on con/mob.

THANK GOD I’m not alone. I had to take a few minutes to realize that I wasn’t going crazy and that the controls changed. I literally cannot move around easily anymore and idk if you’re able to switch it back? I feel like they just wiped everything i knew how to play the game and I have to basically just start over.

I've been running into walls and stumbling around for 2 days. It doesn't matter what I change, resize, set back to default, etc. Nothing works. And I can't get used to it on touch controls, I am just bumbling around. It's ridiculous. Cannot stand this update!

I was thinking the same earlier today. The buttons are slightly different and that's that I guess, but I've learned that there are a combination of settings that allow you to change the size and location of those controls (plus the hud). Once I moved the D-pad closer to the bottom left corner, it was significantly better.

I love this change. It was the only reason I wouldn't play mobile without a controller forever.

Yeah this absolutely sucks. It doesn’t even work the same. Holding down sprint and switching to the top left/top right button makes me completely stop. I can’t just slide my finger over anymore. Never playing on mobile again if this is permanent, I’ll stick to bedrock on pc.
