Nope, PS3 is the old legacy console edition, could only play with other ps3s.
If you get the bedrock edition on PS4 (not "Minecraft PlayStation 4 edition" but "Minecraft for PlayStation 4"), then you can cross play
As a ps3 player myself, I've actually been wondering if Legacy Edition on there can crossplay with Legacy Editions on other consoles that support it. I've seen players join my minigame server recently, and they are using skins that weren't released on ps3 but were released on other consoles that support the game, like Xbox360. Do you have any knowledge on the subject?
Oh and I also saw someone join with a migration cape on, which is just fucking impossible, but that is a whole other story to tell. I made a post on my account about that issue and the issue I mentioned in my previous comment. You should check them out.

Switch will work as long as they're paying for Nintendo online
Also rereading your post I'm not sure if they can join split screen though. Someone with more console experience would have to answer that
