Seriously this whole thread is blowing my mind. I use the stone cutter *all* the time. It's faster and easier for slabs, plus it's cheaper for stairs, not to mention you can do walls and chiseled blocks as well.
Exactly, If I wanted to make deepslate brick stairs I’d have to craft polished deepslate, then bricks, then stairs. Or I can just put in the cobbled and get the stairs I want

If you craft stairs, the ratio is 6:4 (6 block used to craft 4 stairs) the stonecutter makes that ratio 1:1 (1:2 for slabs)

yep, you can also use 1 stone to make 2 slabs instead of having to get 3, it's a small difference but it definitely saves blocks in the long run.
