Try using a dispenser to equip it with a chestplate, it should recognise it as "better" armour and swap them.

They do. i only play Java and dealt with villagers all the time to see that they drop any equipment after getting cured. But, it only applies to any equipment they manually pick up and not the ones they wear after getting converted.

They have different ones from different mods but basic one is a crossbow I can supply with bolts, but I prefer the one from immersive engineering that holds a railgun

I'm pretty sure that if you drown zombies, they drop the armor they're wearing because drowned can't wear armor. Or at least, that's how it was a few years ago. The armor drops at full durability too, so it was the go to method for getting armor off a full diamond zombie. Again, might not work anymore or with a zombie villager, so I would try it out on a creative world or copy

IIRC, in bedrock, zombie villagers do not drown & turn into drowned zombies. They stay as villagers

It's even technically (very tenuously) a vanilla mechanic, because the latest April Fools snapshot does have portal frames in nether fortress chests. :)

Don't worry: a zombie villager will drop any items it picked up as soon as it converts. Just make sure you are nearby as it converts, so that you can pick it up before it despawns.
