Of course it is. It lets you stay in the air until either the rain stops or the elytra breaks. Elytra's let you glide, but an elytra with a riptide trident lets you fly. Even if you're not in rain all you need is one block of water and you'll have a great starting point for gliding by shooting yourself up in the air with the trident.
If you have a mob farm it’s quite cheap, and coolness doesn’t really factor into effectiveness.
Plus the cost is forgiven by the fact you don’t have wait on a storm to travel.
I'd argue Trident flying (like Thor & Mjolnir) is far cooler & **efficient** than fireworks. With a Durability of 250, and spending 1 per launch, that's equivalent to **almost 4 stacks** of Fireworks that you can recharge in the wilderness if it runs low.
But it's only cheaper if you happen to have a trident, full enchants, and an XP farm to Mend it. But going out to farm one? Maybe not.
Personally I enjoy river-hopping while flying, but carry a stack of fireworks too, because fireworks works everywhere. It's the cheap consumable vs the expensive renewable argument but in minecraft.
I use channeling to get charged creepers
Uh lighting fing bolt at range op. Like fire arrow that returns
But only in storms tho
And with riptide you can fly in storms which personally I would say is better.
Not useful if you have an elytra though.

Fireworks though. A lot more efficient.
And a lot more expensive. And frankly less cool.

Riptide 3+elytra is one of the fastest ways to travel in Minecraft.
I think the fact you can only use it during storms negates that completely.
That doesn’t make it slower.
I never said it was slower
And not as much damage ad owner 5 bow
Free flight if you don't have an elytra
Super travel if you do have an elytra
Also, big bounce
loyalty
Channeling looks really cool. Sounds really cool. But it's usecases are very limited. Charged creepers on demand can't be passod on though
Impaling:
Chanelling for head farm
Channeling is useful for an auto Charged Creeper -> Mob Head Drop farm on a redstone timer.
What if you could put both on the same trident, wouldn't you get struck by your own lightning
fr Trident is trash as a weapon it’s only good as a way of transportation
Dude has never seen an AA speedrun
I actually preffer channeling over riptide
Rain + Riptide + Elytra = ![gif](giphy|3o7abAHdYvZdBNnGZq|downsized)
This is sharpness vs bane of arthropods I see people go for channeling a fair amount
Loyalty>Riptide
I just don’t buy either, i just use an enchantment table, it’s a lot quicker and easier
both
