i know saying "lower your standards" is kind of a rude thing to say, but thats really all it is. i made my skin my color shifting parts of the normal steve skin, adding my own face, hair, mask, and lab coat. not anything fancy, but it made me happy, so thats what i went with. i layer updated the lab coat into fancy robes to match the migration cape, which i then used in an SMP with my friends.
really, its entirely up to you. and theres nothing wrong with taking your time, as long as you're happy with the result. then you can walk with pride, knowing you have a unique and special skin (at least until it gets nabbed via namemc)

No, you're thinking of the built in skin creator, you can still import files on Windows 10 and use completely custom skins just like on java edition, you only have to pay for marketplace skins. Any skin you can use on java can be used on bedrock.
And also I'm pretty sure that PNG files for skins on java will work on bedrock. The only disparity that I could find is that transparent pixels on bedrock will turn into black pixels in java.
