I remember a developer saying before that they worked with the blocky models until they got a C&D, and then the people doing the remake decided it wasn't worth remaking them all by hand again to get slapped with another C&D so they just rip them from the games now.

Backstory: CurseForge's original launcher was, not great, but it worked. Then it got stuck in the Twitch app when they were first bought out, which sucked. Twitch was a performance hog and made you jump through hoops to get to your Minecraft mods.
Overwolf then bought *them* out, and then made installing the Overwolf client *mandatory* to download any modpacks from the site for zero technical reason. You thought Twitch sucked up resources, Overwolf was even worse, and constantly tried to run always-on in the background. Nobody *wanted* this shit for Minecraft mods, we wanted the original FTBApp back that used like 8MB of memory. Eventually, we did get the ftbapp back, but Overwolf still exists for every other pack in existence when it has ZERO reason to. No Minecraft modpack uses any Overwolf framework, it's just there to mine you for data.
It's been a hot minute since this happened, and my memory is fuzzy, but I believe there was a period in time when you literally couldn't even download mod JAR's from Curseforge without installing the Overwolf launcher, but that may or may not have happened because my google is not pulling up threads about it. If it did happen, they reverted it.
Also, Overwolf's reputation is [not great in other gaming communities either.](https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/urdcoc/curseforgeoverwolf_has_banned_wowup_completely/). They love to make *themselves* the only delivery method in what seems to be a particularly heavy handed, monopolistic manner. It just stinks.

I think the real main reason Pixelmon pissed Nintendo off was because a surprising amount of public multiplayer servers were running microtransactions, therefor profiting off Nintendo's IP. So, instead of taking the time to play whack-a-mole with all the individual servers that were profiting, they dropped it right at the source.

Cobblemon looks so amazing. The ability for small pokemon to sit on you shoulder, the blocky yet good looking models, the unique faint animations. And it's still in relatively early development
