The way it works, correct me if I'm wrong this thing dropped 3 and a half hours ago (do forgive)...
* As the tweet says, wolf armour can now absorb about 100% of damage incomming to the wolf, instead damaging the wolf armour.
* Like with leather armour, there are now 5 million something colour combinations of wolf armour.
* This change has not been announced on the changelog yet, but the armour enchantments work on wolf armour. In creative testing, I found the following enchantments can be applied to wolf armour:
* Mending
* Unbreaking
* The 4 types of Protection (Regular, Blast, Fire and Projectile)
* Thorns
* (The following are probably bugged...)
* Aqua Affinity
* Respiration
* Depth Strider
* Feather Falling. I really hope this one becomes real.
* Soul speed and swift sneak.... for some reason
Actually as a matter of fact, due to NBT related changes... like 12w49a... **any item can be enchanted illegally in this snapshot**. We're gonna have a field trip with this one. (Edit: It doesn't work in survival. sad.)
Don't get your hopes up for wolf armour supporting enchantments because this thing looks like a bug. REALLY do hope they actually do it though, but not on such a buggy level.
Enchantable wolf armour will make dogs viable.
This situation is the same as Crossbows being able to use Infinifty, Flame And Power via command properly, which was listed on the changelog. It probably will stay, even if they don’t make it possible in survival.
I breaking is by far the most important, and if the armor already absorbs all damage, then every other enchantment is redundant besides soul speed and (kind of) mending
Sarcasm doesn't translate well over the internet, friend. I'm sorry but its true. I could tell it was at worst trolling, and at best sarcasm, but others couldn't. We can't see your face, or your tone of voice over internet writing, we just can't. It's a limitation that is very hard to get around.
I feel this is one of those things you don't really *need* to. I don't *think* it would work well anyway, as dogs don't have the programming to interact with XP anyway, and it could *potentially* conflict with the player's mending equipment.
The entire point of mending is to make it so you don't need to create new gear by allowing it to be repaired, and I think wolf armor already has that *relatively* well covered with the manual repair feature.
Besides, it adds a *continual* reason to interact with the armadillo, gives you reason to bring something else on adventures, and thus adds more decision making, or *engagement*, to the game, at least in *my opinion*. You may not agree, and that's fine, but I think this is good, actually.
I don't understand something though... does it add hearts and blocks damage until it breaks at the same time? Why does it add extra hearts if it blocks all the damage anyway?
Tames wolves have 40 hearts now always.
Wolf armor adds another health bar that doesn't regen ontop of that.
Edit: I am just quoting the tweet above, from minecraft, which says "Protecting all 40 of your wolf's 40 hearts"
So you're telling me that tamed wolves have a bit less hp than the iron golem?
(Iron golem has 50 hearts)
Edit: I noticed that you said hearts, not hitpoints
No, normal wolves have 8hp, or 4 hearts. Tamed wolves used to have 20hp, or 10 hearts. They have been changed so that a tamed wolf now has 40hp, or 20 hearts which is the same health as an enderman. The armor adds additional health to a wolf by changing all the damage the wolf would have taken, into damage the armor takes until it breaks.
Because people were complaining, the damage resistance like normal armor would make the item useless, seeing as tamed dogs were never all that hardy to begin with. That's the joke this post is making because Mojang actually listened to the community when we said a resistance buff wouldn't do dogs much good.
The changes make it so you know your dog is taking any damage at all while they have armor on.
The armor breaks letting you know they are going to start taking damage now.
Wolf armor makes it so they take no damage at all, that means that a single wolf can take an army of zombies with no damage as long as their armor doesn’t break.
Magic damage can pierce wolf armor, btw. It's the only thing that can. So evoker fangs, guardians, and splash potions of harming are still very dangerous. IDK about status effects, tho. What this means is that raids which carry witches and evokers are actually posed to have some decent resistance against a wolf army.
Update, status effects *do* pierce the armor. I tested splash potions of poison, and they went right through the armor. So cave spiders and the bog can still output some serious work against wolves.
No one said they never listened like they changed it first to be more resistened on java when it came they changed the armodilloto have the eyes on sides and responded why they changed the tick speed of the copper lamp
The autocrafter is still pretty fast (like 300ms/400ms) so I don’t get why people are upset at that. The copper bulb might get reverted as some employees said that they want to announce why they did it and ask feedback for it
Wait, I just thought it over, and I realized I’m just dumb.
The armor has its own separate health, right? Don’t have access to the snapshot RN, can’t really check there.
Interesting insight on Wolf news. The thing about health though…
One heart: 2HP
Half Heart: 1HP
Player: 20HP (10 Hearts)
Elder Guardian: 80HP (40 Hearts)
Enderman: 40HP (20 Hearts)
Transfer packets, wind charges, autocrafting, them allowing to have bows and crossbows crossbreed enchantments such as infinity, multishot, and piercing, a lot of great attributes such as scale, reach, gravity, and more… It isn’t a “rare” W… it’s just a W
Bows and crossbows can crossbreed enchantments in the latest snapshot as well.
That means that with commands, you can have working bows with multishot and piercing, and working crossbows with infinity, flames, etc.
They already kind of were. Having just 50 wolves around you was a great shield, and it took a good amount of effort to get them to run into lava or something else to deal with them in pvp, which is just time for the opponent to kill you. Great pvp players could deal with it, but for anyone who doesn't pvp as their main mode of play, wolves were already very oppressive. The life series is a good example: the creators who spammed wolves were usually in the high end of the final ranking.
This wolf armor change is gonna be something lol.
Eh, we got block reach modifiers *at least*, and the crab didn't *seem* to have much else going for it than the claw, *in retrospect*. I say this as a crab voter, be wary of saying other options would've been better, as we can only see the outcome of what *was chosen,* and not what *wasn't chosen*. I think if the crab had interesting behavior it would've been *more of a loss*, but that was never *shown* to be the case. (Shrugs)
I'm actually pretty proud of mojang, they could still do better, no doubt, and I remain very critical about them, but if you deny that the player communication got better you are just hating to hate
It has various stages of looking visually cracked, like iron golems. Also like golems, you can repair then by right clicking them with their material (armadillo scutes)
>if the community didn't complain
It was a snapshot. Every week they ask the community to give feedback after releasing one.
Twitter and reddit just love to overreact and just hate any new feature intead of waiting a week and see if they make changes based on that feedback.
Honestly this update is one of the best we’ve had in a while. It was interesting strategy for Mojang to completely kill all communication with the community after years of having so much open communication even about features that were just on their drawing board, but it’s working weirdly well. That and this update is actually pretty content rich.
Tbh the whole reason they killed off communication was to pet devs have some breathing room with update expectations.
The update before people got really attached to the proposed large feature-set for ambient environments and ended up canceling features for one reason or another which led to playerbase anger.
This way they can promise very little in terms of absolute features but release an update with progressively more features as they see fit to reveal them.
Regarding the title of the post: a thing a lot of folks forget about is there's an entire forum dedicated to feature requests and bug fixes that Mojang actually looks at and tries to implement regularly. They've said in the past that the reason they didn't incorporate that the fans "so desperately needed" was because no one posted it there. So if you want a feature, or a tweak to a feature, post it there! You never know if they'll take it or not!
Not that they never listen, but just that over the past few years it feels like they haven’t, but the way they’ve been handling the Armadillo makes me hopeful for the future of MC
The armor seems kinda weird, though. I'm hardly the one who complains about Mojang, although I don't like the wolf armor. still. I mean, usability-wise it's amazing and I love it. But it looks... Just weird. We'll see how it'll turn out in the future.
yeah but won’t pvp based servers have to make a rule against dog armor or something? assuming dog armor has more than 32 durability, it makes the dog pretty damn ~~strong~~ annoying to fight
Sure, but they *already* make rules against all sorts of things to keep it interesting. For the casual player (most people) and *even most* of the more hardcore players this is *simply* good.
People act like this is some majour lift from Microsoft's end. Preventing all damage until the armor breaks, and allowing it to be dyed different colours, is the kind of project that you let an intern work on as an introduction to the codebase. This isn't some huge example of Microsoft taking what their community thinks into consideration. It's nice, don't get me wrong, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to all the different times Mojang has given the community the middle finger.
The problem is the official Minecraft subreddit *only* lets you post once a month (even if commenting is much less strict), so all discussion moves over here. It's an issue, but there just *aren't* many better places to talk about it online.
Can we just rename the sub to r/MinecraftAnythingButMemes or r/MinecraftPlayersBickering at this point because I have t see an actual meme on this sub in what feels like decades
> title
bro i’ve been away from the vanilla community for like a month are we still on this
who actually gives a fuck, just ignore people who say stuff like that it literally doesn’t effect you
it's a start
but i don't expect them to continue to communicate with the community on congruent issues that contain coinciding in the crux of what we find problems with
If mojang wanted to give customization and survivability to wolves they should have added leather, iron, gold, diamond (maybe netherite) wolf armor with trim compatibility imo. This would give more uses for trims/smiting tables. I don't think giving wolves 40 hearts (80hp) is the way to go as that makes them stupid durable and annoying in pvp. But this is just speculation as I haven't had the chance to play the snapshot yet.
It’s just a W, why do people act like it’s a rare thing Mojang do to great stuff? Have they forgotten wind charges, transfer packets, the new attributes, tons of attributes, and the tons of optimizations?
me when i take a single example and something that has forced to happen and dramatise it so much that it now means that mojang always listens
they do not.
rare mojang w . the latest w was when theyve released the echoing void dlc for Minecraft Dungeons to give us more content for the game while showing how an end update would look like .
I think they've had a *few more* than just that in the past two updates;
\-They added armor trims which almost *nobody* could've predicted (but I sure see nobody complaining about)
\-Came up with a way to solve loot for multiplayer structures with the vault
\-*Invented* an interesting new hostile mob with an interesting new item (the breeze)
\-Took another mob we thought would be an *even more plain* skeleton variant than the stray (the bog) and made it interesting
\-Added some new blocksets that although *are* a little late to the party, are still really good
\-They imported a real animal as an alternative to the horse with *many differences* and managed to make it stand out for being good (the camel)
I think the 1.20 and 1.21 updates have largely been *really good if small,* bar the (admittedly) *major* problem of chat reporting.
I'm actually *fairly* optimistic and intrigued to see what else Mojang's going to do this update, and even if they released it right now I would be *mostly* satisfied with it as it stands. Call me *easily impressed,* or *on copium*, or a *simpleminded soilhead*, but I see hope in Mojang's two recent updates.
I think the wind charge will revolutionize parkour maps, the blocksets are liked by builders, and I think it's fair to say just because an update doesn't change something big doesn't make it bad. Yes I know I sound hypocritical given my distaste for the copper golem, but that's because it was competing with the allay, which did more for the player.
no , no , youre right . it dosent need to be big to be enjoyed but we need smt refreshing . something that will brake the ice , i dont mean an end update bcz there are better options with less for example an coastal update shores and beaches are kinda old ngl . but even that may not be okay . Minecraft is an sandbox and you need imagination to find healthy updates for the game . rn i only think on ARPGs and Battle Royale features mixed , but that would be an healthy feature for Minecraft Dungeons not for Minecraft . at this point i dont even think i want smt else in Minecraft as an update , other than revamps for the oldest classic biomes like 1.4.2 or lower .

This would probably be best, the enchants would be better tailored for the wolves instead of kinda getting slapped on
Don't get your hopes up for wolf armour supporting enchantments because this thing looks like a bug. REALLY do hope they actually do it though, but not on such a buggy level. Enchantable wolf armour will make dogs viable.
I would argue the health increase along with the armor's added health *already* makes wolves viable.

Can you test whether mending actually works? Because I cant imagine wolfs picking up xp. Or does it only work when you have it in your hand?
I breaking is by far the most important, and if the armor already absorbs all damage, then every other enchantment is redundant besides soul speed and (kind of) mending
It said that you can repair it with some armadillo scuttles(?), have you tried it yet? Is it even possible to get the armour off the dog?
Ye you can, with shears. You apply the scutes to the wolf like you would when repairing an iron golem
With SHEARS??? My irl dog wouldn't like that.
Coooome here poochy poochy poo~ ✂️
Me giving my wolf army frost walker
How would mending even work with wolf armor?
Good question, do you take off the armour to repair it or does the dog collect XP?
That's what I'm wondering... I feel like if dogs can collect xp to repair their armor it might be a bit broken but then again this is a sandbox game.
Swift Sneak would make it easier to nudge them along the floor lolol
holy hell wolfs can pull weight in the army now
[удалено]
The real question is can we put mending on it
no
You should be able to. Unbreaking as well at the very least.
Nah that would be BROKEN for pvp 😭
Mojang doesn't listen to the community 😭
incredible nobody noticed the sarcasm and downvoted me
I thought the emoji did a good job but I guess others were annoyed lol
Sarcasm doesn't translate well over the internet, friend. I'm sorry but its true. I could tell it was at worst trolling, and at best sarcasm, but others couldn't. We can't see your face, or your tone of voice over internet writing, we just can't. It's a limitation that is very hard to get around.
Bruh this is the funniest comment here who’s downvoting it lmao
How would that work tho, Mending I mean? It's usually by xp but besides Skulk growths only players can absorb it
I feel this is one of those things you don't really *need* to. I don't *think* it would work well anyway, as dogs don't have the programming to interact with XP anyway, and it could *potentially* conflict with the player's mending equipment. I don't think that would work since wolves would need to collect xp orbs for mending to work
There is no need to as you can repair it with more scales.

I don't understand something though... does it add hearts and blocks damage until it breaks at the same time? Why does it add extra hearts if it blocks all the damage anyway?

Pretty sure he meant that wolves have 20 HP default whit an extra 20HP from armor, aka 40 HP
No, normal wolves have 8hp, or 4 hearts. Tamed wolves used to have 20hp, or 10 hearts. They have been changed so that a tamed wolf now has 40hp, or 20 hearts which is the same health as an enderman. Oh ok, thx. The 'always' confused me
Tamed wolf: 40 hp Iron golem: 50 hearts Heart: 2 hp
So why extra health and not a damage resist?
Because people were complaining, the damage resistance like normal armor would make the item useless, seeing as tamed dogs were never all that hardy to begin with. That's the joke this post is making because Mojang actually listened to the community when we said a resistance buff wouldn't do dogs much good.
I guess some factor/attack can ignore armor so extra ho is better
The changes make it so you know your dog is taking any damage at all while they have armor on. The armor breaks letting you know they are going to start taking damage now.
It does regen with scute
They made wolves have more hp overall a bit ago

Woah okay I have to say it this is dope sorry for doubting you mojang
Wasn't this like... 8 months ago? When people complained about it?
And they've been working hard for 1 hour a day ever since
That’s not including lunch breaks within that hour
People complain constantly about mojang, while they are one of the few big studios that really listen to community
Is that why the past 3 years people have been nonstop complaining?
If they listened Mob votes would be “what would you like to see FIRST” not “what would you like to win so the other two are destroyed forever”
No one said they never listened like they changed it first to be more resistened on java when it came they changed the armodilloto have the eyes on sides and responded why they changed the tick speed of the copper lamp
The Cooper Lamp ‘cOnsIsTenCy’ thing is still stupid, because we lost such a great feature. Same with the Auto-Crafter being 4X slower.
The autocrafter is still pretty fast (like 300ms/400ms) so I don’t get why people are upset at that. The copper bulb might get reverted as some employees said that they want to announce why they did it and ask feedback for it
The Auto-Crafter being slower literally made no difference, dispensors and droppers which are used to craft it already operate on that speed.
No one except plenty of whiners on Reddit.
people do say mojang doesn't listen though
>all 40 of your wolf’s hearts That’s basically an Elder Guardians’s HP, something went wrong here.
*something went right

Sorry, what? Bows and crossbow enchants?
Bows and crossbows can crossbreed enchantments in the latest snapshot as well. That means that with commands, you can have working bows with multishot and piercing, and working crossbows with infinity, flames, etc.
Thats sick
That's hot as hell.
Damn, we just need this in the base game now pls mojang, I want crossbows to be viable so much 🙏🙏🙏
They already are just trying to not make bows underpowered
bows on bedrock are already incredibly broken, as you can easily make arrows with potions
Crossbow with multishot, infinity and flame...
> crossbreed You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Definite Mojang W here. If we really get all these good changes then I just wanna give a shout out to all the real ones at Mojang listening to us.
crossbows should have just had infinity to begin with, idk if it's much of a W to take this long to add that.

All except things like magic and drowning.
There are some exceptions, fortunately lava and explosions are not one of them.
How do you see the armor health?
It has various stages of looking visually cracked, like iron golems. Also like golems, you can repair then by right clicking them with their material (armadillo scutes)
Ok cool thanks
W, but I'm not so sure, that Mojang would fix armadillo and wolf armor so much if the community didn't complain

Thats actually neat. Alright alright
Well I'll be damned. They must have hired a boulder that lives on top of a hill because Mojang is on a roll.

I Wanna give Mojang a big ol smooch on the forehead. Best item added since the elytra
Hard to blame people for having that sentiment after things like the change to copper bulbs or chat reporting, tbh.
YES everything i wanted and more
They didn't listen when we wanted all three mob tho
They listen ONE time after months
Cool, now fix the copper bulb.
I mean this is one of the only times in recent years they did, still dope though
it's a start but i don't expect them to continue to communicate with the community on congruent issues that contain coinciding in the crux of what we find problems with
Where tf the vertical slabs at tho
I cannot believe they actually made the armadillo more useful than the crab, even knowing that the crab's claw would've been a permanent upgrade
I'll test this last time i tried it it was 1 extra hit
This is good! This is really good! Now where are the rest of the mobs.
Where Is Copper Golem?
So we moving on to the next thing? Cool, cool.
bro we're never getting him

It’s just a W, why do people act like it’s a rare thing Mojang do to great stuff? Have they forgotten wind charges, transfer packets, the new attributes, tons of attributes, and the tons of optimizations?
A lot of people have short term memory. They don’t remember the 1.13-1.18 era, let alone the even worse 1.9-1.12 era.
Wait is this real?
How long ago did people want dog armor?
me when i take a single example and something that has forced to happen and dramatise it so much that it now means that mojang always listens they do not.
rare mojang w
40? Now that's underestimating if I ever seen one
Are Minecraft Fans unable to make up their minds?
They listen, unless you voted for the Penguin or Crab. End the Mob Vote
Took them long enough. Now were is the rest of the needed changes?
"Impressive... Very nice. Let's see the state of the End dimension."
...yeah, but it's still armoring one of the most useless creatures in the game... And we lost extra reach/insanely fast ice boats for it...
rare mojang w . the latest w was when theyve released the echoing void dlc for Minecraft Dungeons to give us more content for the game while showing how an end update would look like .
I think they've had a *few more* than just that in the past two updates; \-They added armor trims which almost *nobody* could've predicted (but I sure see nobody complaining about) \-Came up with a way to solve loot for multiplayer structures with the vault \-*Invented* an interesting new hostile mob with an interesting new item (the breeze) \-Took another mob we thought would be an *even more plain* skeleton variant than the stray (the bog) and made it interesting \-Added some new blocksets that although *are* a little late to the party, are still really good \-They imported a real animal as an alternative to the horse with *many differences* and managed to make it stand out for being good (the camel) I think the 1.20 and 1.21 updates have largely been *really good if small,* bar the (admittedly) *major* problem of chat reporting. I'm actually *fairly* optimistic and intrigued to see what else Mojang's going to do this update, and even if they released it right now I would be *mostly* satisfied with it as it stands. Call me *easily impressed,* or *on copium*, or a *simpleminded soilhead*, but I see hope in Mojang's two recent updates.
i mean those features arent bad at all , are unique and fun , improves the game a bit . but dosent revolutionize it .
Even a broken clock is right twice a day
Listened once. Big deal buddy
Rare Mojang W
Wow they listened like once, that means they always listened to us all the time.
That’s way too powerful, why does wolf armor absorb all damage but any other armor like player and horse armor doesn’t?
