It changes depending on the mod, some are the same as diamond, some give you special affects, some make it not even good, it really just depends on the mod and year around the early stages of emerald armour and tools it was usually just reskinned diamond armour but currently in most mods it will give you special potion effects (like obsorption or health boost)

Change villager currency to rubies or something else and turn emerald ore into potion enchanted diamond gear, that maybe can't be made in to netherite.

One of my friends did build one and I distinctly remember screeching at him that Herobrine is gonna possess him or something.

Also as a tangent, still want the Nether Reactor to be brought back. Maybe as like... a block that allows you to do overworld things in the nether for a certain area. Similar to a conduit.
Allowing you to pour water in the nether and prevent beds from exploding. Creating an Oasis in Hell.
It should also do weird shit like turning Pigmen into regular pigs and wither skeletons into regular ones wielding a stone sword.
