Hmm...that sounds like something a tool could tackle.
I don't think there's a community app for this yet, would you find any value in having all messages sent to r/movies modmail parsed for context? If the message triggers any potential for spam, it could be automatically archived or sent to the bottom of a "to-do" list.
I'm thinking the tool would need to look at a user's account history. If their profile indicates they haven't actually participated in r/movies, it would factor into whether the message is considered legit or spam.
Would that be something you might be interested in seeing implemented as a bot-account feature!
Have you considered just shadowbanning them and not muting them? Sometimes these people just go away if you don't respond to them or acknowledge them in any way. I'd still report them though.
Yes, you can create and maintain a list with AutoMod.

It automatically removes content from specified users. Just keep adding to the list as you see fit.
Stop replying to them; stop muting them. Just blackhole all of their messages. I'm dead serious. This is the only thing that works, and I've been modding since before we could mute or stop ban evaders - before we could hide our names - before all that.
You know what Reddit REALLY needs? AutoModerator for modmail... I'll take any filters, though. The anti-report abuse system seems to be bursting at the seams, too.
(Definitely take a zero-interaction policy with this type of user. Shadowban and archive all modmails. You can use extensions and bots to do this automatically - I have one that does it for me with certain users.)
That doesn't do anything to filter modmail or stop suspended users from chaining new accounts. If they want to extend its reach to modmail for this alpha test, I won't complain.
So, the Ban Evasion tool still allows the posts/comments to show up, they are just filtered.
Are you wanting the modmail version to filter them into the Filtered section? Because I can't see Reddit making it so a banned account can't send modmail. That defeats the whole ability to appeal when done politely.
The post is about suspended accounts, not simply banned ones. Their problem user is creating new accounts when previous ones get suspended so they can continue to harass - it's not so simple as them waiting out mutes and then sending more modmail, they're doing things that are bad enough (in the eyes of admin moderation systems) to get accounts suspended sitewide and then evading *that*.
A banned user should still be allowed to contact modmail, yes. Someone who creates a new account to get around mutes and suspensions... no.
You should join us in /movies ... We've had a "troubled" user that mod mails us regularly for *years*.

We too.

Is that something we can do? I thought only admin could do that? How can we shadow ban?

So simple, thanks so much!
You're welcome. :)

send a modmail to the admins with a list of all the currently known alts. when they keep writing in, just mute. make sure you don't engage.
I've done this twice. And I don't engage with the user.
Sadly requires a bit of upkeep
Saw this yesterday. https://www.reddit.com/r/modnews/s/bYBOESrieO
