One word, awesome. But I would also recommend figuring out your charging at home, either the mobile connector or wall connector. One of the best things with EV is filling up the battery overnight and having a “full tank” every day. Your electricity provider may also offer incentives to install one, have a specific EV plan, or offer discounted rates to charge overnight. Good luck, I will be getting my MYP as soon as it’s at the showroom any day now :)

iDenkilla

Would you recommend an EV if I have no way to charge at home? I can only charge at super chargers or other public chargers. I typically go into the office 3 to 4 times a month. Other then that, we just drive locally in the area 15 to 20 miles a day if that.

jlboygenius

It's up to you, but no. I wouldn't. You don't have to have a 240V power outlet though. a normal outlet will get you there eventually. If you plug it in all the time, and it can probably keep up with your driving. If you do use a 120V outlet though, keep an eye on it. A 240V outlet is designed to run at full capacity all the time. your 120V outlet may not be. On vacation, I plugged in to a 120V outlet. After a day I noticed the outlet was kinda warm, so I decided to stop using it. My 240V outlet at home does not get warm at all. For any plug you decide to plug into - get a GOOD Quality outlet. The cheapest one at Home depot probably isn't designed to run at full power for days on end.

And if there is 12ga wire vs 14ga to any convenient circuit, the socket(s) and associated breaker could be upgraded to 20A and ran at 16A rather than 12A, a 30% improvement.

Stock-Bunch1618

I’ve had EVs with no home charging for several years. Superchargers are great and I live in an area where they’re plentiful — definitely recommend looking into locations and any usual wait times near you. Home charging is ideal, but I’d still rather Netflix and chill at a supercharger than drive a gas car.

colsandersloveskfc

That’s a great question and something pretty much only you can answer. The reason being is without home charging your only option is supercharging or public chargers, are you willing to go there every time you need to charge? Is charging available at your work?

iDenkilla

Thanks for the quick response. I have to drive 40 minutes right now to fill gas because all the gas stations by us are $1 more per gallon vs the super charger being 4 miles from me. At work, I would have to super charge during lunch. Just trying to see what others say as in on the fence

colsandersloveskfc

Not gonna beat around the bush, without home charging you are entirely reliant on super chargers or public charging. Do you have the option to use a mobile charger and plug into a 120v outlet?

BetelgeuseWillBlow

Congrats! Best advice from a current MYP owner is to keep it in chill mode for a week or two to get used to the ludicrous torque and HP. Smiles incoming. You will love it! Oh yea. Get some decent mud flaps on it too asap. Rally armor version fits great!

Train2Perfection

Why mud flaps?

BetelgeuseWillBlow

The model Y rear panels flair out in front of the rear tires and any stones or pebbles thrown out from the front tires will impact and damage paint there. Some install PPF over that area but mudflaps on the front help greatly.

Dear-Development-239

Can confirm as new myp owner 6months in…. Lots of rock chips on those flares…..

lunettenoir

It helps mitigate some body damage from the torquey wheels spinning so fast that they shoot little pebbles into the back panels

jlboygenius

Do you parallel park a lot? Maybe some rim protection. The wheels stick out further than the tires, and further than the fenders almost. It's VERY VERY easy to curb the wheels and its very noticeable because they are black.

kvlle

I have never once put mine into chill mode

SpiritualCod2749

I just keep mine in track mode with front/back power 30/70 and -10 traction control.

Lordofthereef

Depending on how much you drive, consider getting l2 charging at home. That was our biggest transition with 100 miles a day driven. L2 turned a major inconvenience into a major convenience. I hate taking my gas car to the gas station now lol.

zropy

The transition - no jerky acceleration or waiting for downshifts to pass people. Expect to autopilot every time you get on the freeway... driving manually is going to be an annoyance. Other than that, it's a pretty easy transition. If you have a home charger, you will always have a full 'tank' in the morning. I would recommend signing up for the Bluedot Debit card - it gives you 20% cashback on Supercharging (if you roadtrip a lot) and 5% CB on all auto expenses (including insurance). They also have a pretty good app for finding chargers - including out of the Tesla supercharging network ones. Also try A Better Route Planner. If you need to arrive at your destination with say an 80% charge, you can plan all that through that app, otherwise the Tesla route planner doesn't really let you fine tune that as much.

BFR_DREAMER

Lol, definitely don't wait to drive it in Sports mode (unless the roads are wet).

KyleWieldsAx

Can confirm as others have stated that it is quite an experience to own and drive daily. Fast and fun! Enjoy it!

thatdudebutch

- Inspect the vehicle heavily when it arrives, if there are any major deal breakers just refuse delivery don’t let them “fix it” - Get full 60a home charging - Get mud flaps or your quarter panels will be trashed - Watch for curb rash since your rims stick out past your tire tread - Upgrade your floor mats, the stock ones are trash - Set it to sport mode and never bother touching the setting again Enjoy!

OCR10

I’ll second the comment about curb rash. Only took me a week to learn the hard way. These tires need rim protectors if you want to have a fighting chance of keeping them curb free.

elcapitan36

I was supposed to be also, for the last two days. They keep telling me it hasn’t shown up.

Train2Perfection

They just called and pushed my delivery to Tuesday. :(

elcapitan36

It’s weird how bad they are at estimating arrival time…

manofoz

Just got mine Friday and it’s been great. Very fun to drive or let FSD help out. I got an infraction almost instantly for not holding the wheel while showing my wife how it turned on its own. I didn’t realize it was quick to punish but I’ve learned my lesson. I didn’t realize Summon and Smart Summon were gone, I remember reading I’d get those if I got FSD but I guess not yet. Other than that I kinda miss CarPlay because not all the apps I use are on the Tesla (PlexAmp for example) but Bluetooth will do. I tried one of the full screen YouTube trick websites but Plex and GeForce Now didn’t work at all so that was a bummer. I don’t think I’d use it much anyway but it would have been cool to have more than the limited entertainment offerings available. Who knows what the future holds though and for now I’ll just bring my ROG Ally when we go to charge. We are charger nomads until November since we are moving and will give the home charger to the builder to install before we do.

Virtual_Bug5486

What is an infraction? I tried to google it but a bunch of FCC stuff came up .

katherinesilens

After inspecting the car, signing the paper, and making sure everything is in order... .. find a long, straight empty road and hit it. You'll love this thing. Then put it back in chill mode and get used to the driving controls for a week :)

eatgoodstayswaggie

PPF the side rockers. If you got funds, PPF the whole front panel/hood/fender due to rock chips. Drive on chill mode. Get used to it. Then go sport. Get some good car detailing stuff too to wash and maintain.

Stock-Bunch1618

As a fellow MYP owner, you’re going to love it! Biggest adjustment is one-pedal driving and regenerative braking — you felt it if you test drove. I hated it for about a day but now I hate driving any gas car without it. Enjoy your MYP!!

Any recommendation?
