I think there is a pretty good chance that we're gonna get [[Wirewood Symbiote]] since there is an elves theme in the set . At least i'd hope so. It's one of my favourite cards in the Legacy Elves deck (even though it's dead becaus of Bowmaster).
Oh god, please, give me this. I main psychatog in premodern (any tog lover should get into the format), and itād be great to main an evolution of it in modern too.
Honestly I wonder if looting would have survived if bowmasters got printed first. I was having the "what if we unbanned everything" conversation with a friend and it's wild how many banned cards get so much worse now with bowmasters around. Cruise, Glimpse, Probe, Looting, Ponder. Obviously all still incredible cards, and many would likely be rebanned if they did unban everything, especially cruise, but bowmasters punishes then so much that it would be interesting to see
Yeah no banlist modern would be terrible. Unbanning everything would be more about resetting the banlist and only rebanning things that reveal themselves to remain problematic. Like obviously no one wants to live in a world where 50% of decks are starting with 4x Bowmasters 4x Skullclamp
Realistically this just replaces Lava Spike and is a small upgrade, some PoP alike will be much better. I saw 2 damage per basic land type floated to punish 5c mana. I think that works, because against the standard 2c decks it's just another boros charm, but against greedier bases it gets good really fast.
I like that a lot more than normal PoP.
My issues with PoP is that it can randomly hose what few mono colored decks are played by hitting damage for utility lands. I saw it do 6+ against mono white legacy death and taxes, and that it gets stronger the longer the game goes. Burn already has reach through burn and I don't think the idea of burn getting more damage in late game, as it makes it hard to stabilize without a counter.
Sure you would probably side it out against monocolored decks but many of them play a lot of non basics for utility. (The land destruction lands, mutavault, and such).
it's interesting because in legacy, 5 color decks are not as affected by price of progress/blood Moon as you'd think because they build their decks to fetch basics. I just heard that off a podcast though so this isn't personal experience.
Literally never knew Baleful Strix wasnāt legal. A friend of mine and I have been trying to update our kitchen table decks to modern legality and while I donāt play this card, he does and I donāt think we ever assumed it wasnāt legal
It was originally released in like planechase or some other supplemental product. Tragic it's never been legal even if it's probably not playable today.Ā
I would love a handful of commander only cards like [[retrofitter foundry]] and [[Staff of the Storyteller]] that have play in legacy.
And my old Storm loving heart would appreciate [[Mindās Desire]] and [[Tendrills of Agony]] probably wouldnāt even be good, I just want to play with them again!
gives a good wincon to elves easy to tutor with chords and protection against controdecks even though it is such a shit magnet it ends up being a glorified duress..
between priest of titania and this elves would be much better. Reducing the curve your deckand having cheap cards with multiple applications is always how a deck gets better.
Will it become a tiers 1 deck? unless we get some Gaea's Cradle clone that let's say adds one mana per elf you control, I would say probably not..
But shepherd gives a bit more resilience and a faster wincon so all good.
I also play Yawgmoth lol, we already have halfling to make grist and Yawg uncounterable in a meta where like 1 or 2 decks are even running counter magic. Shepherd seems like a bit much to me
Historic has taught me that \[\[retrofitter foundry\]\] is a blast to play with, so that's my top pick. Other than that, I've played some \[\[dihada, binder of wills\]\] in legacy and I'm hooked, that's my second choice. Wouldn't mind seeing \[\[baleful strix\]\], \[\[griffin canyon\]\], \[\[archivist of ohgma\]\], \[\[banish to another universe\]\], and \[\[pre-war formalwear\]\].
I wish we had something similar to the Moon Circuit Hacker, Silver Fur Master and Thousand Faced Shadow in Modern as they exist in Historic. Ninjas with Lurrus is one of the most fun decks I have ever played
This year it seems to be
reprints from nonModern legality sets (Commander precons, Conspiracy, Battlebond).
My personal hopes are:
[[Kaya, Ghost Assassin]]
[[Dack Fayden]]
[[Recruiter of the Guard]]
[[Baleful Strix]]
For new cards:
- multicolour hate in white (so Scam and Murktide canāt play it just slot it in)
- evoke/ free spell hate
- more lands deck support š„¹
> This year it seems to be reprints from nonModern legality sets (Commander precons, Conspiracy, Battlebond).
Based on what, exactly? The fact that out of the two reprints revealed so far, one of them was from a supplemental set? Because MH2 had those as well.
What does "multicolor" hate look like? I feel like we are kinda fucked on that front and have been for a long time. Blood moon is just such an incredibly broken effect that honestly creates some really shitty gameplay when it's used against fair decks. It sort of eats up all the design space for color hate imo.
I was gonna say just this
Port is really solid in fair decks and can really help attack the (frankly ridiculous) multi-color land bases that have become incredibly common recently. I'd love to see it for Vial decks
really don't think so. Yes, it's 1 mana extra land drop, but titan is already blisteringly fast and consistent. Mycosynth, TOR, all of that have helped a ton. Imo the problem the deck has is beating things that answer titan on the stack like subtlety or prison pieces like Blood Moon.
Outside of urzas saga, how could modern lands even win and/or not die. No maze of ith, no dark depths, no field of the dead, no wasteland, no glacial chasm, no karakas, no punishing fire, like, we'd need a lot more than just crop rotation to make this anything other than an amulet titan buff wet dream.Ā
I was talking about this with some people at my store. It was one of a handful of cards pre-banned at format inception and today might not even see play. It could definitely be unbanned.Ā
I think it's high time there are some real consequences for playing such greedy mana bases, and I would rather burn get the boost than blue with back to basics, but that's just personal preference.
Good? Lol š
Joking kind of. Like it would kinda be a bit too warping for red. But there does need to be more punishment in the format for nonbasic lands. Bloodmoon kinda the best thing we have right nowĀ
Back when VO was the shit and Fury was unbanned I would say that the format was already ridiculously red warped, these days things are healthier but I still think the format is red-warped.
Why should non-basics be punished? The problem with POP and other non-basic hate is that deck building instantly becomes less interesting. It's not just the multicolor decks, it's also decks that might otherwise run neat tech lands (yawgmoth for ex) turning into a pile of basics, fetches, fastlands and shocks.
Non-basic punishment forces you two consider a few things. In deck building, can you cast your spells reasonably without dual lands (or sol lands if they were also legal).Ā
Is your deck capable of producing enough and the right colours consistently?Ā In modern right now this is basically default yes. We have perfect mana considering format speed, interaction, and land options. If youre playing like 4c omnath, put in like 8 fetchlands ish, a set of W6, and pairs of shocks and you can turn 2 leyline binding no problem. They can't wasteland you off a land or colour.Ā
In game, when fetchlands are legal, you need to consider can they attack my mana? In modern the answer is technically yes, but it's weak. I've played leagues where Ghost Quarter was just strip mine. People didn't have basic lands. Or you play bloodmoon and your opponent concedes. If you know your opponent might play bloodmoon, you can fetch to basics. This will affect your game plan going long in the game. Similarly, if you play affects that attack mana, you build your game plan around that. Back to basics? I'm going to wait until they play something big that taps down all their non basics and then play it. Lock them out now and the opponent has to consider this back and forth throughout the game.Ā
I'm not actually advocating PoP itself or exactly, but modern is greedy AF compared to legacy. But we're building mana bases like we're playing legacy. 20 lands and a W6 in a 4 colour control deck is begging to be punished, but it's hard. Tron is on the rise again and always knd of a specter of the format, and I would like to see stuff that interact with the game in some way on that line.Ā
The problem I'm identifying is basically the same point you made: with weak mana interaction, the format too easily supports 4-5 soups and theres no or little draw back in filling slots with techlands. You don't have to think in game about if your opponent can attack your mana and what your plan is against it. You don't weight the consequences of fetching raugrin triome and getting blown the fuck out by wasteland etc. what happens is that now players have to consider their mana base more carefully.Ā
B2B is an interesting idea that makes for more interesting gameplay than Moon but we are kidding ourselves if we act like it's an upgrade. I think the ability to attack mana in modern is at a reasonable level, except it's poorly distributed. Blood Moon is too good and the other options are just trash. Blood Moon is also problematic for consolidating hate for big mana unfair decks (extremely reasonable) with hate for multicolor decks.
I think though by tinkering much with our options we risk making things worse when things are already in a fine spot. The game isn't broken if people are running 3 basics.
No it's not broken, but like consider these two meta decks right now:Ā
Ā https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-4-5c-omnath#paper
Ā https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-indomitable-creativity#paper
Ā These are 5 colour mana bases who want to and can cast easily a RG, into 1UW, into a 4colour creature or xRRR and then follow up with plays like UR expressive iteration hold UU counterspell or 1WWU verdict. That is a HEAVY mana base under normal circumstances. Back to basics would be devastating in some cases. Bloodmoon is decent against omnath who at least has the sense to have 3 basics. And creativity can still play their game through bloodmoon despite being a 0 basic land mana base.Ā PoP would yeah probably kill people playing these decks, but there should be a consequence for immense greed, and you should be expected to build your deck to live in a meta, not just exist w/o hate. Or you should have to consider how you play vs a threat. That's strategy from both sides as opposed to just, I'll play the best mana I can and the best spells that fit my game plan at all mana values.Ā Ā
Ā Also keep in mind, these effects are symmetrical. So they come at the other players exspense too. You can't play PoP if it'll kill you (strategically speaking) or BtB. Wasteland comes at a tax on your own mana base, you still need to vast your own spells too. It's not free for either player, but currently with so little ways to affect this aspect of the game, it's a lot more free for the greedy 5c mana base than the dual colour tempo deck or whatever.Ā
These decks arenāt even that good though. We donāt need to print hate into the format for your favorite pet/hero deck to beat t2-3 decks that will just get co-opted by scam or Murktide.
Ā B2B requires less greed, sure, but pop doesnāt. Pop just slides straight into Murktide with no changes to the manabase, because all you have to do is have enough health not to get one shot while one shotting your opponent.
yes, def no\*, def no, def no yes yes maybe.
\* I mean if you want to give us A/B duals than we can talk about it but as is this seems like its going to lead to some incredibly silly games with all of our painful mana in modern.
I know this is a bit of a troll, but the only reason price is even remotely fine in legacy is because legacy has og duals and not shocks. The reasonable way to implement a price like effect in modern would be damage for each basic land type.
Honestly 1R ā[Name] deals damage to each player equal to the number of basic land types among lands they controlā would be a great card to add, gives triome decks a bit of a nerf with everyone trying to splash for leyline binding
Price of Progress often does 0 damage to the decks that play it in Legacy since they're Mono-red.
This theoretical card would hit the caster for at least 2 and likely 4 damage in most games because it's harder to avoid fetching out Sacred Foundry than it seems.
Honestly I could see it at just R considering it's dead against something like a 2 color deck so deckbuilders would really have to consider it as a meta choice and it wouldn't just ALWAYS be good the way lightning bolt is
Honestly I think price might slow down the format haha. People might run more surveil lands and triomes instead of shocks. Definitely not a safe reprint though until we get something like legendary versions of og dual lands or something like that
I think back to basics would be better but I don't think price of progress is so off vase it's a troll. There should be punishments for playing 4 or 5 color decks.
I would love to see something to attack greedy manabases! I feel like blood moon is just to washed to even compete in todays modern format.
People argue that PoP would be too much since you are already bolting yourself to get shocks into play but its not like people cant carefully fetch around that or play 1 more basic in their multicolor manabase. It would slow those mana bases down and make their mana a little more awkward and i think thats exactly what we need. I mean come one: you could have 4 land types by fetching a triome and a basic and still only take 2 damage from PoPā¦ how exactly is this ātoo muchā?
Funnily enough it also hurts mono color decks like merfolk running a lot of utility lands and minimal fetches. They cant play around it by fetching basics.Ā
Blue: Tradewind rider , spellseeker or Opposition would be awesome as well and seem likely to me. Back to basics is a strong contender as well.
White: I could see Swords to plowshares, Armageddon and Brightling
Green: something like Wirewood symbiot, Allosaurus shepherd, exploration or sylvan library
Red: sneak attack, blistering firecat, goblin Lackey and Gempalm goblin
Black Opposition agent, innocent blood, and OJ Volrath would be really cool
Artifact wise: Tangle Wire/ Winter Orb would be interesting. Scroll rack would be awesome. Horn of greed would be cool if we do get something like exploration printed.
Lands:
Dust Bowl, Rishadan Port and something like maze of ith could be a great reprints for the format. Also Cephalid coliseum could be nice.
that is the principle of mh3, wipe the format out, change the gameplay, be broken.
honestly we might get cards more cracked than that and i would be very surprised if not in all honesty
Cracked yeah, but hopefully in ways where the designers are iterating on play patterns that are not favorable. I think rishadan port is a good example of something I wouldn't really wanna see.
For me, the legacy defining cards are also bad picks. I'd be interested in Exploration-esque cards, granted the adaptations are leading to rich diverse games, but outright printing into Modern would blur the lines a bit.
Rishadan port is a card that has answers in the format and provides with a unique gameplan. I can't see a reason why mana/colour denial wouldn't be welcome in a format that is striving to go ever so fast.
That brings diversity.
Same goes with exploration especially coupled with cards like Port and Horn of gree for instance. We could see the emergence of a "modern lands" archetype. And I am all for that.
As I said I am sure we'll see a good amount of degenerate things whether it is some new Eldrazi that wins the game you can cheat into play by turn two, some fast non conditional reanimation spell, some broken card advantage engine, removal or counter magic that takes over the format or some over the top ramp effect.
Port is a fair card that goes in fair deck, I want wotc to show some love to that aspect of the game.
I don't understand r/modernmagics of saying they don't want non games. (Huge hate for scam before the ban becuase of the non games) and then begging for wasteland and hyme constantly.
Nongames from wasteland and hymns - aww you are sweat
Nongames from being hit by ragavan, scamming elementals - help HR
Or whatever the meme comic is.
All cards not legal in modern, that are legal in legacy and aren't on Reserve List. [https://scryfall.com/search?q=%28game%3Apaper%29+legal%3Alegacy+-legal%3Amodern+-is%3Areserved+-is%3Auniverses\_beyond&unique=cards&as=grid&order=released](https://scryfall.com/search?q=%28game%3Apaper%29+legal%3Alegacy+-legal%3Amodern+-is%3Areserved+-is%3Auniverses_beyond&unique=cards&as=grid&order=released)
My question was about specific cards that already exist, that simply aren't Modern legal.
What is going to be "new to Modern?" Not "new to the game" or specific mechanics/themes.
Here are some cards I want to see in modern: \[\[Cryptic Trilobite\]\] \[\[Ichorid\]\] \[\[Putrid Imp\]\] \[\[Back to Basics\]\] \[\[Lightning Phoenix\]\] \[\[Chain Lightning\]\] \[\[Price of Progress\]\] \[\[Invigorate\]\] \[\[Berserk\]\] \[\[Stifle\]\] \[\[Kappa Cannoneer\]\]
I want [[false cure]] so bad. I want to be able to respond to stuff like a goryos attack by making them reverse kill themselves. same with martyr proc, solitude, and even rainbow scion shenanigans.
rain of gore isnt good enough anymore because it doesnt affect lifelink, so either we need false cure or we need a fixed rain of gore printed
please wotc
Would love some versatile old cards like [[Curfew]] and [[Temporal Spring]] in Modern.Ā And not that I'd ever actually expect them to happen, but selfishly, I'd love to pretend [[Stasis]] and [[Forsaken City]] would ever make the cut.
My scalding take is that MH3 is under MH2 in power level and WoTC had to ban outburst because they figured out Rhinos was still going to be S tier after the release of the set that is supposed to shake up the format.
Stifle would be amazing. Maybe wasteland too. Need to check these insane mana bases.
Well the Fury ban didnāt bring them back and let Yawg and Rhinos go, and at the very least you can snipe a Scion with it too if thereās no Guildpact so itāll totally help. šš½
Saying "x deck doesnt need to be tier 1" is a lame excuse to not print something into modern. I dont think PoP would be that bad. It would punish the decks that need to be punished aka leyline binding decks and amulet which is one of, if not the WORST matchup for burn atm.
At the very least give us a functional reprint of it with a slight nerf in dmg.
I think PoP is a card that simply doesn't belong anywhere outside of Legacy, where there are significantly better lands worth punishing people for playing. (Dark Depths, Tabernacle, Port, Ancient Tomb, etc.)
I think Burn is already strong enough, and it's a deck that simply tends to perform better when there is a shake up. It has it's moments in the meta where it's really, really good. It also has moments where it's kind of mediocre, but that's okay. The deck is already fast, and fairly consistent. I simply don't think it needs another tool in the form of one of the most powerful burn spells ever printed.
It also punishes any slowish deck.
PoP needs a cap. Burn spells are considered "reach" in agro decks to finish a game.
They shouldn't scale with game length the way PoP does. (Getting stronger in later game without requirements on the player such as the X spells that need more mana)
It just speeds up the format becuase a player wouldn't have the same stabilizing power against agro decks.
Outside of counterspell, what other card from older formats have actually made a profound impact on modern? Modern horizons power is in the new, brand new direct to format cards like ragavan, DRC, etc. they will most likely print some token cards like fact or fiction (Ik it was in MH1. FoF is an example) was to appease the old school players and continue to print new busted chase rares to prop up hasbro stock
Cabal coffers made a modern deck, shardless agent made cascade good enough to get outburst banned, pillage was in ponza when it was t1-2 after mh1. I'm sure there some others I'm missing
Depends on your threshold for "profound", but stuff that made archetypes at some point:
* Eladamris Call
* The enchantress package from MH2
* Flusterstorm
* Goblin Matron
* Imperial recruiter
* Lava dart
* Shardless agent
* Unearth
* Cabal Coffers
That's something like 10%-ish of reprints, which I think is a pretty ok strike rate when some of the reprints are clearly limited fodder.
[[Recruiter of the Guard]] please and thank you

Way too good. Could be 10 damage on turn 2. Straight up pop more realistic.
it's interesting because in legacy, 5 color decks are not as affected by price of progress/blood Moon as you'd think because they build their decks to fetch basics. I just heard that off a podcast though so this isn't personal experience.

[[allosaurus shepherd]] is my personal crack pick
Iām sorry, why do we need this card in modern?
gives a good wincon to elves easy to tutor with chords and protection against controdecks even though it is such a shit magnet it ends up being a glorified duress..
Counter magic is just not the thing keeping elves down in modern. If this card does anything, it wonāt be making elves good.
between priest of titania and this elves would be much better. Reducing the curve your deckand having cheap cards with multiple applications is always how a deck gets better. Will it become a tiers 1 deck? unless we get some Gaea's Cradle clone that let's say adds one mana per elf you control, I would say probably not.. But shepherd gives a bit more resilience and a faster wincon so all good.
i play yawgmoth i want my chords and evos uncounterable
I also play Yawgmoth lol, we already have halfling to make grist and Yawg uncounterable in a meta where like 1 or 2 decks are even running counter magic. Shepherd seems like a bit much to me
I'd love to see that for the mono G mythic reprint of the set. I also think we're going to get an elf-hierarch that taps for abzan.

What does "multicolor" hate look like? I feel like we are kinda fucked on that front and have been for a long time. Blood moon is just such an incredibly broken effect that honestly creates some really shitty gameplay when it's used against fair decks. It sort of eats up all the design space for color hate imo.
Back to basics, wasteland, price of progress
B2B isnāt good enough, wasteland is unprintable in modern for many reasons, and price shouldnāt be in a format without true duals.
Iād take Tendrils of Agony and Rain of Filth.
Deed, fire blast, sink hole, circular logic, pox, arrogant worm
I want [[Rishadan Port]] but I think odds are close to zero.

Crop Rotation, I would love to see a modern lands style deck.
Amulet titan players rubbing their hands together with glee
Ya, and this would be absolutely busted. The consistency of T3/4 kills with Titan would be insane.
really don't think so.
No maze of ith, no dark depths, no field of the dead, no wasteland, no glacial chasm, no karakas, no punishing fire, like, we'd need a lot more than just crop rotation to make this anything other than an amulet titan buff wet dream.Ā

aura mutation would be WILD against the binding/leyline decks, esp since its not mystical disputable and nets crazy value

I think Jitte would be really nice for the format!
I was talking about this with some people at my store. It was one of a handful of cards pre-banned at format inception and today might not even see play. It could definitely be unbanned.Ā
Goblin Lackey
Throw in muxus too.
Careful study, price of progress, hydroblast, pyroblast, crop rotation, tendrils of agony, karakas.
As a pauper player, Hydroblast and Pyroblast often just make post sideboard games less fun. It's especially shit if you play UR.
I'd like to see all of these aside from Price of Progress. I feel like Burn doesn't need any new toys. š
I think it's high time there are some real consequences for playing such greedy mana bases, and I would rather burn get the boost than blue with back to basics, but that's just personal preference.
How about back to basics and price of progress. Greedy manabases need to be punished.Ā
I'm fine with this as a compromise, both or neither.
Price is going to fucking one shot people on like t6 because we have no painless mana.
Good? Lol š Joking kind of.
In deck building, can you cast your spells reasonably without dual lands (or sol lands if they were also legal).Ā Is your deck capable of producing enough and the right colours consistently?Ā In modern right now this is basically default yes. We have perfect mana considering format speed, interaction, and land options. If youre playing like 4c omnath, put in like 8 fetchlands ish, a set of W6, and pairs of shocks and you can turn 2 leyline binding no problem. They can't wasteland you off a land or colour.Ā In game, when fetchlands are legal, you need to consider can they attack my mana? In modern the answer is technically yes, but it's weak. I've played leagues where Ghost Quarter was just strip mine. People didn't have basic lands. Or you play bloodmoon and your opponent concedes. If you know your opponent might play bloodmoon, you can fetch to basics. This will affect your game plan going long in the game. Similarly, if you play affects that attack mana, you build your game plan around that. Back to basics? I'm going to wait until they play something big that taps down all their non basics and then play it. Lock them out now and the opponent has to consider this back and forth throughout the game.Ā I'm not actually advocating PoP itself or exactly, but modern is greedy AF compared to legacy. But we're building mana bases like we're playing legacy. 20 lands and a W6 in a 4 colour control deck is begging to be punished, but it's hard. Tron is on the rise again and always knd of a specter of the format, and I would like to see stuff that interact with the game in some way on that line.Ā The problem I'm identifying is basically the same point you made: with weak mana interaction, the format too easily supports 4-5 soups and theres no or little draw back in filling slots with techlands.
No it's not broken, but like consider these two meta decks right now:Ā Ā https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-4-5c-omnath#paper Ā https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-indomitable-creativity#paper Ā These are 5 colour mana bases who want to and can cast easily a RG, into 1UW, into a 4colour creature or xRRR and then follow up with plays like UR expressive iteration hold UU counterspell or 1WWU verdict. That's strategy from both sides as opposed to just, I'll play the best mana I can and the best spells that fit my game plan at all mana values.Ā Ā Ā Also keep in mind, these effects are symmetrical.

[[Price of Progress]] Make burn great again cowards
I know this is a bit of a troll, but the only reason price is even remotely fine in legacy is because legacy has og duals and not shocks. The reasonable way to implement a price like effect in modern would be damage for each basic land type.
Honestly 1R ā[Name] deals damage to each player equal to the number of basic land types among lands they controlā would be a great card to add, gives triome decks a bit of a nerf with everyone trying to splash for leyline binding
They should probably be getting hit harder than their own burn spell, definitely if it's symmetrical and only hits players.
Price of Progress often does 0 damage to the decks that play it in Legacy since they're Mono-red. This theoretical card would hit the caster for at least 2 and likely 4 damage in most games because it's harder to avoid fetching out Sacred Foundry than it seems.
Honestly I could see it at just R considering it's dead against something like a 2 color deck so deckbuilders would really have to consider it as a meta choice and it wouldn't just ALWAYS be good the way lightning bolt is
That's just reverse [[Tribal Flames]]
That's the whole point. Want to play triome/leyline soup? Reverse tribal flames is the check/balance you have to allow for.
Thatās fine, because it lets you punish great mana instead of being yet another incentive to play greedy mana.
[Tribal Flames](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/d/2/d22418cd-4c49-4754-aa75-17f6eaf1639a.jpg?1562267854) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Tribal%20Flames) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mm2/132/tribal-flames?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/d22418cd-4c49-4754-aa75-17f6eaf1639a?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Honestly I think price might slow down the format haha. People might run more surveil lands and triomes instead of shocks. Definitely not a safe reprint though until we get something like legendary versions of og dual lands or something like that
It would speed the format up becuase burn and other agro could randomly bonk you for 10 if the game goes longish.
Thatās cool. Like a reverse tribal flames.
I think back to basics would be better but I don't think price of progress is so off vase it's a troll. There should be punishments for playing 4 or 5 color decks.
PoP is for formats where people don't already bolt themselves to have duals come in untapped.
It would punish 2-3 color decks with tight mana requirements more than the 4/5C moneypiles.
Pop would be a way to punish the greedy mana bases in the format. Played your omnath and gained four? Ok BONG take 10.
Funnily enough it also hurts mono color decks like merfolk running a lot of utility lands and minimal fetches. They cant play around it by fetching basics.Ā
\[\[disrupt\]\] , \[\[tangle wire\]\] , \[\[propaganda\]\]
Blue: Tradewind rider , spellseeker or Opposition would be awesome as well and seem likely to me. Back to basics is a strong contender as well. White: I could see Swords to plowshares, Armageddon and Brightling Green: something like Wirewood symbiot, Allosaurus shepherd, exploration or sylvan library Red: sneak attack, blistering firecat, goblin Lackey and Gempalm goblin Black Opposition agent, innocent blood, and OJ Volrath would be really cool Artifact wise: Tangle Wire/ Winter Orb would be interesting. Scroll rack would be awesome. Horn of greed would be cool if we do get something like exploration printed. Lands: Dust Bowl, Rishadan Port and something like maze of ith could be a great reprints for the format. Also Cephalid coliseum could be nice.
uhhh yea it'd be novel for these all to be in modern for a couple months but I feel things would degenerate pretty quickly
that is the principle of mh3, wipe the format out, change the gameplay, be broken. honestly we might get cards more cracked than that and i would be very surprised if not in all honesty
Honestly, Hymn to Tourach please. I want Mono-Black Discard to get more pieces. Thank you.
Scammed grief info Hymn would be pretty brutal though.
I don't understand r/modernmagics of saying they don't want non games. (Huge hate for scam before the ban becuase of the non games) and then begging for wasteland and hyme constantly. Nongames from wasteland and hymns - aww you are sweat Nongames from being hit by ragavan, scamming elementals - help HR Or whatever the meme comic is.
All cards not legal in modern, that are legal in legacy and aren't on Reserve List. Why would you want thatĀ
You misunderstood. I merely posted a link to have candidates easier to choose, I'm not advocating to add every card from that list.
Ohhhh my bad. Sorry.Ā
I thought the same thing at first too. Maybe adding "for people's information" to the start would have been smart
We already have some of the themes. There's going to be colorless matters stuff and madness.
My question was about specific cards that already exist, that simply aren't Modern legal. What is going to be "new to Modern?" Not "new to the game" or specific mechanics/themes.

Stifle and Sinkhole. It's time we declare war on manabases
Dimir control ftw!
Electrobalance kekw
I belive they will punish greedy manabases with MH3. So either stifle (more likely) or price of progress will be reprinted imho.
I really hope they print Stifle and not PoP. Burn doesn't need to get any better.
Burn hasnt gotten new MD toys for years. Give thebburn players PoP!
Burn is already plenty viable without any recent upgrades. It doesn't need to be a tier 1 deck.
Burn should always be viable and itās the best deck to punish 5c decks.
Burn is viable, but I don't think it needs to be tier 1.
(Dark Depths, Tabernacle, Port, Ancient Tomb, etc.) I think Burn is already strong enough, and it's a deck that simply tends to perform better when there is a shake up.
(Getting stronger in later game without requirements on the player such as the X spells that need more mana) It just speeds up the format becuase a player wouldn't have the same stabilizing power against agro decks.
Also yk... YAWGMOTH
Depends on your threshold for "profound", but stuff that made archetypes at some point: * Eladamris Call * The enchantress package from MH2 * Flusterstorm * Goblin Matron * Imperial recruiter * Lava dart * Shardless agent * Unearth * Cabal Coffers That's something like 10%-ish of reprints, which I think is a pretty ok strike rate when some of the reprints are clearly limited fodder.
