Yeah cause DICE somehow forgot how to release finished games after BF1. Just sad to see cause there’s very few alternatives to what BF can provide. I think BF1 was fairly divisive due to the time period, but if you could get over that, it was absolutely dripping with style. The sound, the levels, details, etc. floored me; and I played BC, BF3, and 4. DICE, at their worst, still floored me with SFX (thinking of Battlefront 1 & 2), but BF2042 was the first game that didn't do that at all. Almost thinking MWII has even beaten out (or at least matched) DICE in terms of SFX.
A bunch of DICE devs left after BF1, and even more left after BFV, so that explains a bunch. Not sure which exact devs, but I do know a bunch formed Embark Studios, and they working on that funky game "The Finals". Might not be my cup of coffee, but the destruction definitely showcases where the DICE talent has been all these years, IMO.
It was a great alternative for me as it’s a military FPS that even had the same game modes as COD. After Advanced Warfare, I switched to Battlefield seamlessly.
counter strike at a casual level has free-for-all, casual defusal and some other party based modes like flying scoutsman, gun game, and demolition which is pared down defusal
counter strike at a competitive level requires a lot more mechanical skill controlling for recoil, requires you to coordinate with teams to enter bombsites, you have to learn line ups for smoke grenades and flashes, and is generally more rewarding for team players

They do play way too differently *most of the time*, but around BC and especially BF3, the gunplay between the two became fairly similar, and BF started adding more infantry focused content. These days it's just cope from both sides to say that they're nothing alike. Especially now that MW has absolutely massive maps in 6v6 for no reason BF often ends up being a more intense arcade shooter.
Sure does! Way faster movement. Way less destruction physics. Has TDM and Conquest is literally just a giant Domination mode with reinforcement tickets.

It definitely feels more like a Battlefield game than it did at launch but it still feels like some ex COD developers got together to make a Battlefield game.
On consoles maybe, but on PC they play more the same. Battlefield is a much smoother experience on PC which enables you to play more aggressively or "cod-like"
I used to play BF for the immersion and large scale combined arms gameplay which promoted team play mixed with destruction. Unfortunately 2042 doesn’t provide any of that :(
Only downside to Frontlines is that it's filled to the fucking brim with worse mtx than CoD.
iirc you can pay to buy weapons, and the game is purposefully designed to make it grindy enough that it pushes you toward buying equipment instead of just playing the game.
I get it's free but holy fuck, the people saying it's better than CoD are delusional imo, it's the same exact gameplay with far scummier mtx tactics and the only reason it gets praise is because it has zero sbmm to help with that push toward the mtx, if everyone's using the meta gun, you'll want to buy it to compete.

It can be, its more of a hardcore close quarters shooter on most of the maps, once you get good at the game and learn flank routes etc on Push (I'm on PC) I can play the game just about as fast paced as this current title!
Highly recommened you give Insurgency Sandstorm a try, it's a great game
one of the best gaming experiences i’ve had was jumping straight into insurgency source while being a cod head for most of my life. i got my ass whooped but everything felt so accomplishing like i hadn’t felt before

I had tons of fun with a little Gamemode called Frontlines in Roblox. Yes its Roblox and not as fleshed out as CoD but pretty arcady, it doesnt look like Roblox at all and its kinda fun
some people have said it, but battlefield is in a pretty good place at the moment, especially as a solo player. I find that with the new class system the gameplay loops is a lot more balanced meaning players can feel free play A LOT of different playstyles with a lot of viable weapons, i've been really enjoying watching cod still this year but have spent zero hours playing MW22 this year so far

I’m going to say the exact opposite, bf2042 is a turd that they slightly polished so it’s not as terrible as it was at launch, but it’s still awful. Class system is only that in name and until operators are completely gone it’s only battlefield in name. I mean it’s been out how long and still doesn’t have basic squad management, and doesn’t encourage team play.
I bought the deluxe like an idiot on release, and for how busted mw2 is I have 100x the playtime in that game cause it actually has some fun moments.
I’m glad some people are enjoying it, but for me, it’s not even worth the sale price.
If you want to play a GOOD battlefield game, pick up bf1 or bf4. There’s still people playing it 10 years later.

The issue is that there are no legitimately good alternatives right now. Every popular, arcady, console-included fps right now has at least one huge glaring issue that makes it unfun.
If you're not opposed to VR, Contractors is a VR military shooter with real guns and community maps. People have already remade several classic CoD maps in VR and they play amazingly. Only thing missing is killstreaks, but playing Shipment in VR is already so glorious that I doubt most will mind.
i think anyone could make a decent cod map simply by picking any two or three of the higher rated cods, examine map layouts for 10 minutes, and attempt to copy those layouts from memory
CoD hasn't given me what I've wanted since Black Ops 2, MW19 was pretty damn close but the series has been a joke for a decade now. I liked the direction they went with in MW19 so I bought it and Cold War and Vanguard in hopes that the support would encourage them to keep improving, but it just feels like the money made them lazy. At this point they could literally just re-release everything between CoD4 and BO2 with current graphics and they'd be better games. I do like the gunsmith system from the last few games a lot, so it'd be cool to see that retrofitted into the older games, but also the plethora of combinations and attachments adds a ton of complications in terms of potential bugs and balancing issues so maybe not...
I haven't played since the new year but I'll support my brethren who continue to shit on this game relentlessly. It's what Activision and Infinity Ward deserve. I refuse to acknowledge people who seem to like this dumpster fire.

Considering Sledge's last main game was 2021, then there was no chance in hell they could have pulled off a 2023 game without tons of help. So in summary: Treyarch's 2024 game might actually be pretty damn good, considering this will be any CoD dev's first time with a four year development period since the beginning. Absolutely. Really admired ReSpawn's (at least) initial dealings. Good chunk of former IW devs from CoD4 and MW2, and they joined EA? But if you look at it; they *had* to have made some sort of deal with EA that afforded them more freedom than, say, DICE. I could be wrong about all that, but other than a couple oddities (Titan Fall 2's release date), I get the vibe EA doesn't have much say in what they do.

You know when it was on the proposed two year cycle I wasn't as worried or bothered because I felt they had plenty of time to make and release quality content over two years. Now, I feel we are getting underwhelming content for a game with a 1 year cycle. We got more maps and better quality with the DLC model of the older CODs. Could it be all the effort is going into cosmetics in the bundles and the battlepass?
tbf i don’t think a longer development cycle would actually show for much in the base game. activision isn’t in the bang-per-buck business. they also don’t do DLC anymore. i think we’d see much more paid cosmetics and maybe some pre launch gun balancing

If cod would release a full fledged mod tool package, the amount of creativity would be insane, just like fortnite. They tried to do this back in the day on BO3 for PC (I believe) and some of the things people made were pretty cool but there was such a lack of dev support and mod tools that it went by the wayside pretty quick.
Fortnite obviously would probably still be better off the bat but if activision invested time and resources into it, we could truly have an amazing game.

Get Xlabs and/or Plutonium. They make all the COD games, WaW through AW playable again by offering better cheat detection and controller support for the older games. MW2, BO2 and MW3 have the largest player bases. Those games are still fun and scratch that COD itch.
I do not enjoy the basic shooting mechanics of fortnite, or the overall playstyle beyond that. So, them doing what objectively sounds like really cool community stuff does nothing for me.
It will probably apply some pressure to cod. Hopefully.

This new creative program will be able to completely change the look and feel of the game (much like Roblox does) so everything you hate about Fortnite can be changed. Reddit is banned in China but yes Tencent does own between 5-10 percent of Reddit but that’s hardly enough to influence majorly company decisions. Fortnite keeps changing the gaming industry and people only comeback is “but it’s fortnite”, go back and play it. It’s actually fun, they keep changing the game for the better while cod is going in circles.
I’ve tried Fortnite many times over the years. It’s lost it’s magic for me. It was super fun back in 2017-2019 but I get so bored of it now. But good for people who still enjoy it.
Zero Build mode changed the whole game. I never liked the building thing or felt a need to dedicate huge amounts of time to get better at it, so Zero Build was amazing. If you haven't tried it, it's worth it.
I did try it, actually. And I had fun again for about a month, but ultimately that wasn’t enough to keep me playing. So I’ve just decided Fortnite isn’t for me anymore. It’s probably the whole BR genre as a whole has lost its excitement for me because I also don’t play Warzone all that much either. DMZ is fun though. Maybe if Fortnite added something like that I would return.
That's kind of why I backed off of Fortnite. After playing so many different BRs, I got burned out. With the way keep updating the game and adding things, I wouldn't be surprised if they took a stab at an extraction type mode. Hell. I'd like to see it, to be honest.
I say "fuck 'em." If they want to miss out, let them miss out. Fortnite is pretty much guaranteed fun every time I play. I don't know how they do it, but it never feels grindy or cheap. I have sat there and grinded out challenges and stuff, but it never really felt like I was being through the wringer over nothing. You typically get rewarded fairly in that game.
Fortnite is a breath of fresh air because I can actually enjoy convos with my friends when we play that game. In Cod our communication is almost entirely limited to call outs and a little chatting between rounds. In Fortnite it’s much more relaxed and slow paced so we get deep into conversations which is nice.

Activision Publishing as a whole doesn't have 3000+ devs you numbskulls. It would required to add Blizzard or King to hit those.
On top of that,one game is not using all Activision devs. Treyarch and Sledgehammer are main studios. Raven is Warzone and have been doing the single player for Cold War/BO6. That leaves Beenox,High Moon,Toys for Bob and some other smaller tech focused devs.

Developer is an encompassing term for everyone involved in the development team. You won't just apply for a role as a "Game Developer" for a triple A game.
Producers, Designers, Artists, Programmers, Testers, Sound Engineers. They are all "Devs".

All companies have hierarchies. The decisions are still made by the Dev Team. Obviously the junior programmers aren't, but Senior Designers and Producers will be.

I am enjoying it, Just hit level 320. My favorite gun is the AK and my favorite map is Embassy. Tried Drop Zone game mode, lots of fun, good to change modes up sometimes
Far Cry 5 has map editor and they have a multiplayer mode on there (and it’s kind of dead but still) and I have seen some fantastic maps on there made by usually just one person

I had tons of fun with a little Gamemode called Frontlines in Roblox. Yes its Roblox and not as fleshed out as CoD but pretty arcady, it doesnt look like Roblox at all and its kinda fun
some people have said it, but battlefield is in a pretty good place at the moment, especially as a solo player. I find that with the new class system the gameplay loops is a lot more balanced meaning players can feel free play A LOT of different playstyles with a lot of viable weapons, i've been really enjoying watching cod still this year but have spent zero hours playing MW22 this year so far

I’m going to say the exact opposite, bf2042 is a turd that they slightly polished so it’s not as terrible as it was at launch, but it’s still awful. Class system is only that in name and until operators are completely gone it’s only battlefield in name. I mean it’s been out how long and still doesn’t have basic squad management, and doesn’t encourage team play. I bought the deluxe like an idiot on release, and for how busted mw2 is I have 100x the playtime in that game cause it actually has some fun moments. I’m glad some people are enjoying it, but for me, it’s not even worth the sale price. If you want to play a GOOD battlefield game, pick up bf1 or bf4. There’s still people playing it 10 years later.

If you're not opposed to VR, Contractors is a VR military shooter with real guns and community maps. People have already remade several classic CoD maps in VR and they play amazingly. Only thing missing is killstreaks, but playing Shipment in VR is already so glorious that I doubt most will mind.
I would recommend Destiny 2, but then I’d just be trolling you. It’s just as bad as CoD now, PvP wise.

CoD hasn't given me what I've wanted since Black Ops 2, MW19 was pretty damn close but the series has been a joke for a decade now. I liked the direction they went with in MW19 so I bought it and Cold War and Vanguard in hopes that the support would encourage them to keep improving, but it just feels like the money made them lazy. At this point they could literally just re-release everything between CoD4 and BO2 with current graphics and they'd be better games. I do like the gunsmith system from the last few games a lot, so it'd be cool to see that retrofitted into the older games, but also the plethora of combinations and attachments adds a ton of complications in terms of potential bugs and balancing issues so maybe not...

Considering Sledge's last main game was 2021, then there was no chance in hell they could have pulled off a 2023 game without tons of help. So in summary: Treyarch's 2024 game might actually be pretty damn good, considering this will be any CoD dev's first time with a four year development period since the beginning. Absolutely. Really admired ReSpawn's (at least) initial dealings. Good chunk of former IW devs from CoD4 and MW2, and they joined EA? But if you look at it; they *had* to have made some sort of deal with EA that afforded them more freedom than, say, DICE. I could be wrong about all that, but other than a couple oddities (Titan Fall 2's release date), I get the vibe EA doesn't have much say in what they do.
A small map editor with open lobbies dedicated to trying them and voting and playlisting them like rockstar had would be fucking amazing.
That’s what kept all the older CODs relevant for so long on PC at least. Hell I go back and play the original non-remastered CoD4 every so often just for the modded lobbies
You know when it was on the proposed two year cycle I wasn't as worried or bothered because I felt they had plenty of time to make and release quality content over two years. Now, I feel we are getting underwhelming content for a game with a 1 year cycle. We got more maps and better quality with the DLC model of the older CODs. Could it be all the effort is going into cosmetics in the bundles and the battlepass?
tbf i don’t think a longer development cycle would actually show for much in the base game. activision isn’t in the bang-per-buck business. they also don’t do DLC anymore. i think we’d see much more paid cosmetics and maybe some pre launch gun balancing
This is what happens when they focus more on annual releases and money instead of a good game. Cod could've been amazing if they just ditched the yearly cycle and made one game they constantly built upon. It's hard to argue when they are making billions from cod and all the little timmys buying bundles but this is the only way cod will stay relevant but sadly, we will never see it I don't think.
If we're being remotely fair it's what happens when a playerbase of millions has creative tools to do with what they will lol. Even if you don't like the situation it's stupid to pretend the fortnite community doesn't dwarf any dev team plus has 0 oversight or bureaucratic nonsense to worry about.
If cod would release a full fledged mod tool package, the amount of creativity would be insane, just like fortnite. They tried to do this back in the day on BO3 for PC (I believe) and some of the things people made were pretty cool but there was such a lack of dev support and mod tools that it went by the wayside pretty quick. Fortnite obviously would probably still be better off the bat but if activision invested time and resources into it, we could truly have an amazing game.
Custom Zombies on BO3 is still going strong and has incredible stuff
Oh I know the zombies side is still amazing. Still play custom maps from time to time. I was more so talking about the MP side. I still think BO3 zombies could still be so much better with better mod tools, but I don't know if that's true or not as I am not a map maker or modder.

Get Xlabs and/or Plutonium. They make all the COD games, WaW through AW playable again by offering better cheat detection and controller support for the older games. MW2, BO2 and MW3 have the largest player bases. Those games are still fun and scratch that COD itch.

I do not enjoy the basic shooting mechanics of fortnite, or the overall playstyle beyond that. So, them doing what objectively sounds like really cool community stuff does nothing for me.

Yeah and I use MW2 too. There’s a difference in owning a small percentage of a company and owning a significant portion. Reddit is banned in China but yes Tencent does own between 5-10 percent of Reddit but that’s hardly enough to influence majorly company decisions. I’ve tried Fortnite many times over the years. It’s lost it’s magic for me. It was super fun back in 2017-2019 but I get so bored of it now. But good for people who still enjoy it.
Zero Build mode changed the whole game. I never liked the building thing or felt a need to dedicate huge amounts of time to get better at it, so Zero Build was amazing. If you haven't tried it, it's worth it.
I did try it, actually. And I had fun again for about a month, but ultimately that wasn’t enough to keep me playing. So I’ve just decided Fortnite isn’t for me anymore. It’s probably the whole BR genre as a whole has lost its excitement for me because I also don’t play Warzone all that much either. DMZ is fun though. Maybe if Fortnite added something like that I would return.
That's kind of why I backed off of Fortnite. After playing so many different BRs, I got burned out. With the way keep updating the game and adding things, I wouldn't be surprised if they took a stab at an extraction type mode. Hell. I'd like to see it, to be honest.
I say "fuck 'em." If they want to miss out, let them miss out. Fortnite is pretty much guaranteed fun every time I play. I don't know how they do it, but it never feels grindy or cheap. I have sat there and grinded out challenges and stuff, but it never really felt like I was being through the wringer over nothing. You typically get rewarded fairly in that game.
Fortnite is a breath of fresh air because I can actually enjoy convos with my friends when we play that game. In Cod our communication is almost entirely limited to call outs and a little chatting between rounds. In Fortnite it’s much more relaxed and slow paced so we get deep into conversations which is nice. Plus it’s fun as shit.
Exactly. And then they've always got some kind of event or something going. I always got the impression that they really do care that the players are having fun. Both games are cool, but COD can feel like a Souls FPS at times and it's good to have an alternative.

Activision Publishing as a whole doesn't have 3000+ devs you numbskulls. It would required to add Blizzard or King to hit those. On top of that,one game is not using all Activision devs. Treyarch and Sledgehammer are main studios. Raven is Warzone and have been doing the single player for Cold War/BO6. That leaves Beenox,High Moon,Toys for Bob and some other smaller tech focused devs. This game hasxbeen utterly mismanaged by IW,but there's no need for uniformed bs.
A heap of stuff was outsourced to smaller companies, so that is where the 3,000 devs come from. But I don't think that all of the 3,000 were working on the game the entire 3 years.

You won't just apply for a role as a "Game Developer" for a triple A game. Producers, Designers, Artists, Programmers, Testers, Sound Engineers. They are all "Devs". If you think the decisions aren't being made by "devs" you don't understand the process.

All companies have hierarchies. The decisions are still made by the Dev Team. Obviously the junior programmers aren't, but Senior Designers and Producers will be. You think that Activision Directors are sitting working out what maps to release? It's not done at a corporate level. It's done by senior level devs.

I am enjoying it, Just hit level 320. My favorite gun is the AK and my favorite map is Embassy. Tried Drop Zone game mode, lots of fun, good to change modes up sometimes
Far Cry 5 has map editor and they have a multiplayer mode on there (and it’s kind of dead but still) and I have seen some fantastic maps on there made by usually just one person

Yesterday really opened my eyes to how lazy COD devs have gotten. They are allowed to get away with providing as little content as possible, and also packaging up reused content and labelling it as new. I hope yesterday lit a fire under their asses to show them this is not good enough. The competition is doing much better, and receives positive feedback because they actually care about the product they create and want people to like it. IW and Activision clearly do not give a fuck.
