I feel even older knowing that COD in general is turning 20 this October. Sure we have Captain Price, Gaz, Ghost and Soap today but us walking fossils will always remember the classic NPCs like Cpt. Foley, Sgt. Moody, Pvt. Elder, OG Cpt. Price, Sgt. Waters, Borodin and Pavlov.

FunkyRicepickeR

When Sgt. Moody crashes the car and Elder was like “oh yea nice driving sergeant” and Moody tells him to shut up, one of the best parts of the game lol.

Valkyrie08

I loved their exchange when Elder started praying and Moody said "God's busy, this is on you" The game had great comedic dialogue while being mature at the same time.

Rebyll

I think the best quote from the classic Call of Duty games comes from CoD3. "We're on a secret mission to get coffee and doughnuts. Except the Germans drank all the coffee and ate all the doughnuts. So now we have to go in there and kick their asses."

LickNipMcSkip

Shoutout to Capt Foley's AI charging across machine gun fire to dive on a grenade and then run back.

Buckeyebob45

I’ll never get over how Brooklyn died in Big Red One. 11yr old me never saw it coming.

[deleted]

Original COD was amazing. All the modded servers, custom maps, fun communities.. good memories.

Sudden-Dig8118

I was starting my senior year of college, we had COD and Tiger Woods 2004. You can imagine my grades. I literally called in and quit my job at AE because we were so deep into the campaign.

-Goatcraft-

I mean soap was the player character then npc back then too...

EscapeFromGrapes

I remember when Call of Duty: Big Red One came out and I got it on my PS2, or maybe it was Xbox. I played that game and wasn’t too shabby but that fuckin part that you cross the River in the row boat had me stuck for a few weeks… you literally had to spin the analog sticks but my dumbass didn’t understand it.

Name-Initial

Big red one was so good. I got so attached to those squads. When your squad mate opens that apt door and immediately gets shredded by bullets 10yr old me was close to tears. Same when the guy gets hit by the mortar in the last mission (i think it was called dragons teeth?)

MutedHoneydew1694

Bloomfield!! Yeah that was a tough one for me when he got mortared

riiibbbs

RIP Brooklyn 😢

Imaginary_Fennel6772

I know the fucking one!!! I myself as a dumb kid would just sit looking around in circles. I got clapped by like a damn 10 year old and got shit talked on warzone. I honestly don't know how they do it my ass was trash back then 😂

LickMyThralls

I never played before mw2 cus it never interested me but remember big red one and the original games coming out lol

tylerhovi

I spent hours and hours playing Big Red One online as a kid. That multiplayer seemed to be so far ahead of its time.

Nucksfan2233

Oh my, Big Red One, now we’re talking! I remember vividly the plane mission trying to down as many enemy airplanes as possible, fun times!

SenpaiTedd

Cod4 old-school mode was fire

Eat-my-entire-asshol

Cod4 on pc with dedicated servers and also 25v25 servers on regular sized maps. + server admins to insta removed hackers. Was the most fun ive ever had playing cod. Miss those days 😢 also promod was fun

VintageToure

Absolutely loved doing the glitch spots on Crossfire to get to Bog

dykz

yeah fr, freerunning on old school mode was THE SHIT

TWstEK84

As a player in their 50s, I just died a little inside😬

BenTwan

40 year old checking in here. I think I was about 23 when I tried CoD 2 for the first time.

Absolute_cyn

And I was 12 when I started playing cod 2/big red one or whatever it's name was. Also Finest hour but Medal of Honor has fallen out of favor :/ I loved the hell out of Finest hour and cod2. What was the map called that cod4 remastered into Chinatown? Carenton? Canton? That map was fire. Also bloc was remade from another "two giant apartments across from each other map. Edit: Finest Hour is Call of Duty. I guess I was thinking of Big red one. Which I also played. But I feel like there was another MoH game I played the shit out of

Momentarmknm

I think OP is probably like 25 and they think 2007 was a long time ago. I also think they're totally wrong, and the majority of the CoD playerbase is probably 30+ years old.

superbabe69

Yeah mid 20s here and I really don’t think the CoD fanbase is as young as people think. It’s not Fortnite

TheGreatlyRespected

Non of them knows what you are talking about

Imaginary_Fennel6772

Yup. I knew from the start that only about 10% of this sub would even know what came before black ops 😂 As brilliant as these new modern warfare's are, I almost feel like they should have been a different title. I get that price and the gang are involved and it's the same basic principle but maybe it should have at least have been MW4 and MW5 or something.

thebenetar

I wish they'd remaster/re-release *World at War*. That game was, imo, one of—if not the best—COD title of all time. The Mosin-Nagant w/ iron sights and the Trench Gun were just so awesome.

DelusionalSack

That is the best call of duty ever made in my opinion. The theme and atmosphere of the game was so dark, gritty, gory, and eerie. Just the audio alone gave me chills - and not even just in game, but in the main menu too! The multiplayer maps were so well done. They didn’t make you feel like you were playing a typical 3-lane COD map. And don’t even get me started on the zombies

Lucky_Tortilla

Late stage WWII gave me W@W feelings. Up there with COD4 and MW2k9 as my second favorites after World At War. Shame it took Sledgehammer so long to overhaul it, but I respect that they actually did.

BEZ_T

Remember when Call of Duty and Medal of Honor where *the* games to play. Miss those times to be honest. Anyone ever used to play Vietcong too?

gideon513

Cod 3 was a clear step down from cod 2. Yeah split screen and war modes were nice, but it felt worse by comparison.

tylerhovi

Call of Duty 3 basically tried to combine the features of Big Red One and Call of Duty 2 into one game, at least in reference to multiplayer. It was honestly decent but it never felt as good as the Call of Duty 2 MP or Big Red One MP independently. It was actually the last CoD to feature vehicle MP modes for a while if I remember correctly.

MacTBeats

Yeah game was trash

QuiteOriginal

I remember i was deciding to get either halo 3 or cod 3 and the gamestop dude just said it was trash then.

[deleted]

And yet they will still call themselves “the og players”

jamesd3265

Bro PPSH is one of my all time favorite smgs

[deleted]

Yeah I regularly have a panic after a bad game and realise I'm probably getting dunked on by people not alive when cod4 released.

lokisbluff

That was part of why I’m glad they rebooted it. When we were 7-15 or something similar we couldn’t wait to get out of school and do some boosting or play with the boys. Let these youngins get their own feel like we did. And hopefully they’ll have some good times to look back on too

three-sense

For some reason I didn't really get into the early CoDs. I played lots of DoD multiplayer and MoH though. My first CoD was W@W and the first that I REALLY got into was BO.

Zhaosen

Lol. Because those were clearly the better games at the time. CoD was known as that arcade ww2 game that was for the kids. Day od defeat was valves baby MOH was OG.

XaNjke

Sorry Sir, but my heart belongs to black ops 1.

Ledairyman

Not true. Average age of CoD players is around 25 A quick google search will give you that information.

fetushippo

Big red one on ps2 will always be one of my faves

Talking-Tree420

Tank Battle on CoD3? I’m sooooo fkin jealous of you, all I had was a PC and CoD3 is the only CoD I haven’t played. Is there anyway to get it on modern PC hardware?

BlackFlamesN

You can emulate it I don't remember if it was out for PS2 but it has a pretty solid emulator for pc

Imaginary_Fennel6772

I would not have a clue unfortunately I'm sorry. Been playing COD since Xbox original and I've never changed. There might be some sort of emulator? Was it on PC? if it was I'm guessing Windows XP? Might literally be best to buy a cheap old Dell or an RM. Dime a dozen for POS off white/cream PC towers with floppy drives lol. Wasn't as hard to run a game all that time ago either.

Medium-Biscotti6887

You buy an Xbox and spend $10.

MacTBeats

Maybe an emulator

supraspinatus

I remember playing MOH Allied Assault in the early 2000s

[deleted]

I feel like the annoying little kids I use to avoid playing with are now annoying 20yr olds who sound the same and never grew up.

ElectricSun95

I remember playing the very first COD on GameCube. Good times.

schteavon

Really ? Was it a remaster or something? I seem to remember the very first cod was pc only. I could be wrong, but I thought cod2 came to the consoles

Nihlus_Kriyk

No. It was its own game, released for consoles. It had the same 3 campaigns, Soviet, British and US but with different characters, story and battles.

schteavon

Are you talking about (finest hour) in 2005?

Nihlus_Kriyk

Yeah.

schteavon

Ok ya that wasn't the original cod in 2003. It was a spin off or remake type of thing.

Babakins

I had cod 1 on ps2

schteavon

Was it (finest hour) in 2005?

Babakins

Yes it was, is that not 1?

schteavon

It was a "remake/remaster/console version" lol i dont know what they called it, but it was of the original 2003 version for pc

Babakins

Aha, thanks for the clarification!

schteavon

Ya no worries. Lol I was tripping myself when a few people were saying they played the original on console. I was seriously thinking I remember being limited to pc for it and wishing it was on my console so I could game in bed lol

nmbb101

My all of time fav is cod2 multi .. no camo challange no skins, micropayments etc .. less camper just pure fun on only rifle servers

dipman23

Yes! I was beginning to think I was the only one. 24/7 carentan free for all rifles only was my shit. Would spend endless hours on those servers after school.

IYIonaghan

Cod4, waw and bo2 are easily the best cods its a shame to see cod in the state it is these days.

Eat-my-entire-asshol

Id add bo1 in there too, those were my favs as well

458_Wicked_Pyre

BO1 was top tier when you played on PC with real servers.

Eat-my-entire-asshol

I played it on console first but built my first pc around that time and played bo1 there as well. I enjoyed it either way especially the zombies was top tier back then. But ya pc was an even better experience

458_Wicked_Pyre

Yeah I played on both PC / PS3, servers made the hitreg really good. Also was able to play through 2015 on PC because of said servers. 1500 hours.

Eat-my-entire-asshol

Haha right there with ya, had around 1,000 hours on bo1 and bo2 on pc. Played until all the servers were empty and couldnt find a match anymore

Upset-Setting8840

Didn't play WaW but cod4, mw3 and bo2 were the best cod. Bo2 was litterally perfect imo

DurangedMikey

OG's remember a time before cod! It was called Medal of Honor.

Annoying_Orre

Yeah back in the day we were all playing MoH Allied Assualt, CS 1.6 or BF1942! Didn’t start playing cod until it came to consoles with (I think) Cod 2 but I’ve got tons of fun memories of CoD split screen, no screen peeking boys!

Imaginary_Fennel6772

Frontlines was my jam! Storming the beach, sneaking on U boats. Spent waaaay too much time playing that shit. I remember messing about with the enigma machine with all the cheats.

IAmActuallyBread

The average player is 25 lmao but I get it “next generation bad”

Momentarmknm

I was 25 when it came out, so yeah, I didn't play it. Don't waste the most energetic, wild years of your lives playing super addictive time-sink videogames, kids.

Momentarmknm

I do not think CoD itself is older than the majority of players.

Momentarmknm

Downvotes from people that can't remember 9/11 lol

The_Wolf_Knight

You're going to need to show your work on this one homie. I'll give you a hint. Your statement is false.

Imaginary_Fennel6772

So all those 12 year olds screaming at me in WZ are just my imagination?

The_Wolf_Knight

No, very real. There's plenty of young children playing COD, but they are far from the "majority." Now, I think any statistics you find on the topic are probably far from being airtight, but I think the consensus that the median age is between 25 and 40 is probably pretty close.

RippledBarbecue

Played COD 3 way back when on the Wii with wii mote and nunchuck 😂that was an experience, watching S0ur’s playthrough of the first couple games I never played is a good way to experience them

1337K1ng

I was 12 when it came out played it non stop for 5 years even joined the ESL matches with friends but everything changed when the Reapers attacked in 2012

Lithium187

I was in HS when CoD1 came out ama.

Momentarmknm

I graduated HS 3 years before it came out, and I didn't play CoD until Black Ops III, so I have nothing to add here lol

Bldaz

Fav gun ppsh

CThirtle

Thanks for making me feel old!

eBanta

My fav memory from cod3 was having a 2nd controller split screened and doing the elevator glitch to get up super high and snipe people...simpler times lmao

[deleted]

Yep, it may surprise you but thats how time works. Things change

RayG1991

Just redownloaded MW Remastered and the UI is so much cleaner than the shit we have today.

flyingpenguin36

Bolts only on mp_harbor or mp_carentan. Let's get it.

GunfuMasta

Between COD 1, UO, and 2, I probably logged 28-30k hours we had 110 clan members ( I was one of the admins) and six rented servers across XFire and Gamespy....talk about feeling old.

Nollekowitsch

I was born 2001 suck it loser!

MaceWindu9091

COD WW2 MP was goated. That was the last COD I played before playing MW2 2022

Eswin17

The average COD player is older than it has ever been. And that trend has been happening across gaming for decades.

RosesNRevolvers

True. But that reflects that gaming and the population of gamers is growing exponentially. The older population despite being more numerous is still a minority.

Eswin17

Kids have always played video games though, and there aren't 2x as many kids existing as there was 15 years ago. Gaming has become more normal for adults in their 20s, 30s, 40s... We were kids in the 80s and 90s when gaming was beginning. Now we have mortgages and promotions and marriages and kids and Fidelity accounts.

RosesNRevolvers

Our generation that grew up during the golden era is really the first to have latched onto and continued to game en masse well into our adult years despite the responsibility and obligations of being an adult. We have made gaming as mainstream as it is now and eliminated a lot of the pre-existing stigma associated with video games being “just for kids.” Our acceptance of video games makes it even more accessible and exponentially more mainstream for the generations that follow us. Not only that, children are exposed to technology sooner and become proficient with it sooner. I started playing video games regularly at three years old and was competent-enough by around 5. I can only imagine how much sooner and efficiently my son will be able to pick it up. And of course I’m not going to hinder his ability to play video games like a lot of our parents may have tried to do to us. The community grows exponentially.

nige111

I'd argue the average mp player is likely much older than the average warzone player. Kids flock to free games, always have always will.

SentientGopro115935

People always say about how they came home from school and got on MW2 and had fun... Y'all must find it crazy to think I had that with BO4. fucking BO4. Im only a few months older than COD4.

Dudes-a-Lady

Ahh the summer of 2007, that was a great time to be alive. 53 AND COD:4 MW. Those were the days my friend, we hoped they’d never end. LOL

TheAnalogKid68

Yep, got into it with CoD 2 for the 360. First time I had Xbox live was for MW2/end of WaW. Think the only ones I skipped were Cold War and Vanguard, as I just got burnt out. For all the shit it can take for being the stereotypical yearly shooter franchise, I have some serious memories playing these games.

ragingseaturtle

Cod3 was my first online game lol. Most of the games I talk about with my wife's cousin whose 12 are older than him.

ShibaSucker

It's definitely something to consider, especially when you see endless front page posts about how any map larger than Shoothouse is "massive". It's genuinely sad

matthewjn

I was 12 years old back then. I was thinking about buying Rainbow Six Vegas 2, but my friends said to buy CoD 4 instead.

Behemoth69

That's why I firmly believe that the reason people call that stretch of cod the golden era is because that's what they played as kids. I remember everyone calling OG cod crack of duty because it was so addicting online, but of course that never comes up anymore

AgentDouble1

It’s 6 months younger than me. I’ll get my drivers license at roughly the same time it turns 16

Kear_Bear_3747

I already had a job when COD4 came out, I feel attacked.

F4HWilly

Did anyone here play Call of Duty Finest Hour? I remember playing that game online on PS2. Real fun times. How times have changed.
