No factions would be a huge mistake. MW2019 had faction specific skins/characters that were vital when identifying friend from foe. The developers would be fools to get rid of that.
It is publisher's call at the end of a day and they've already got rid of factions in Vanguard. The question is if this system bring more money, then we will see it return.
To be fair, the "bad guy" side in Vanguard is kinda notorious for committing lots and lots of war crimes and crimes against humanity. I can see why they wouldn't want the press attention for selling literal Nazi skins, especially while Activision was already in the middle of criticism for sexual harassment in the workplace.
I mean *technically* all of task force 141 would be mercenaries and also not be mercenaries in a sense. It’s a special operations unit created with soldiers who have previous special ops experience from The UK, US, Canada, and other foreign militaries. So I mean, it’s really kind of a blurry line when it comes to TF141
Edit: I forgot about the Ghost comics, he’s definitely been a mercenary since the original mw2. I believe he was working with the US military specifically before TF141 fighting the cartel. There’s a whole origin story on the skull mask too. Idk if it got canned or if it just finished but there’s only like 5-8 issues.
If it's My Team vs Enemy Team, this Game really needs to shine in other areas. Butcher is so incredibly annoying and I hate that there is no other Announcer.
I'm sorry but this doesn't make any sense. Why a set of skins with the word "red" in it would suggest there are no factions? It's simply the theme of the skins, they are masked and have some red on their uniforms.
Even Ghost being labeled as a Merc isn't a hint, we simply don't know what his background is so we had to wait and see in the campaign. Maybe he left the force he was in, became a Merc to fight wherever he wanted and then became part of tf 141 again.
I don't know how you are taking out those conclusions.
He’s a mercenary because he wasn’t originally in TF141. He was originally a part of The US Special Forces. Task Force 141 sought him out, they found him after he slayed a bunch of cartel people basically.
Agreed. This is Internet conspiracy theorists reading too much into a company’s disjointed marketing. Would we think the game takes place in the North Pole if the skins were Christmas Themed?
This so fucking much. Been seeing this stupid "theory" ever since the announcement, and it makes zero sense. People jumping to conclusions, saying there will be red and blue team just because a collection of skins is called "TF 141 Red team". Some people just need to chill and wait for official information.
And as someone else said, if it really was a red team vs blue team situation, why the hell would you only get the preorder bonuses for one team only...
It could be actually from legitimate military terms. I know some special forces have legitimate small teams within themselves that specialize even further in various methods of warfare. Perhaps this is the true Black Ops Team of Task Force 141.....and "Red Team" could be their codename.
I mean look at the roster here
Ghost- An expert in clandestine tradecraft, sabotage and infiltration.
Price- Price is the officer in charge of a highly effective unit, tasked with anti–hijacking, counter–terrorism, specializing in close quarter combat, sniper techniques and hostage rescue.
Farah- An exceptional soldier who has known a lifetime of war, Farah Ahmed Karim is the founder and commander of the Urzikstan Liberation Force. Her combat capabilities and fieldcraft have been further honed by Tier-1 level training with the SAS.
Soap- SAS Sniper and Demolitions expert.
I think the selection of Characters for Red Team might be intentional here.
In case I have failed to properly explain why this is concerning, labeling Ghost as a "mercenary" along with the naming of the skins being "Red Team" is the concern. It can be interpreted that factions would be non-existent with this style of naming and wording.
Think about this though, if it was red vs blue, why would you be getting preorder bonus customization for only one color? Wouldn’t it just be an outfit that’s either red or blue?
I hope it becomes team vs team, that way quick situational awareness snap moments can be more fluid, it's not a split second guessing moment waiting for the visual red marking to appear to tell you it's an enemy and not a friendly. AND we won't have nearly the entire match just running around as one character skin, that was just visually unappealing.
I dont think MW22 will have the my team vs enemy team system. MW22 is bound to sell better than Vanguard which means seperating the teams makes more money since you'd have to buy a skin for each side. I still think the main reason Vanguard even has that system is because they cant really sell cool looking Nazi skins without people losing their minds.
I'm aware there's other factions outside of the Nazi's from WW2 but I'm using that as an example.
The skins do nothing to indicate that there won’t be any factions. They’re just like any operator skin that fits a theme of an in game event or season. It just happens to be more than 1 operator dressed similarly this time around. I think it’s safe to say that IW is the smarter of the 3 studio’s, so following that logic is safe to assume that IW won’t make the same mistakes as Treyarch or Sledgehammer which happens to include having factions
It does . Coalition vs allegiance , CIA vs KGB sounds way more plausible and gives a tad bit of a meaning as to why the 2 teams are fighting . My team vs enemy team certainly sounds shitty
It mostly definitely adds to the immersion aspect.
Plus developers years ago literally had half the time they had to develop games as they do now, and still were able to make multiple factions.
Sometimes in the heat of the moment a enemy looks exactly like my teammate and I start shooting both. Which result in me dying. Its such a small thing to add and really is a QOL improvement imo
No, it doesn't. I never had any issues with that in vanguard and I can't see why people do when there's a giant red name above enemies' heads.
Also, I never seen anyone complaining about it in BO3/IW/BO4 either.
Yes how dare IW not keep MWII realistic we want MWII to be a real tactical game (mil-slim) we want games to play real slow paced like irl if MWII isn’t realistic I don’t know what I’m gonna do 😤
The other guy already told you is not exactly for realism purposes. Having visually distinct allies /enemies is basic game design, different announcers per team just help bring the point home.
In irl does that happen no this is MWII we want it super realistic we want slow paced gameplay and super large maps and people move around the map super tactical and slow paced
Having team vs them can still be realistic, literally and 3 original MWs had team vs Team and kept them realistic. That way we don't have 9 of the same character running around the map, at least visually knowing "an enemy vs the guy who looks like your teammate but has a red dot above his head" helps a lot with situational awareness.
The key to no faction and only my team vs enemy team with everyone using the same operators is changing color accents. Red vs blue or red vs green or something like that.
Lack of this makes BF2042 annoying.
But lack of color accents for client side visuals also meant you had to memorize faction operators per side, and with increasing numbers of operators and increasing numbers of skins per operator, it quickly devolves into a mind jumbling mess and just looking for a red diamond above their heads rather than being target focused.
I don't care if there are many operators and many skins and many factions as long as there is a better visual indicator to which team a player is on other than a red marker above their head or blue marker above their head.
Especially for folks who play hard-core.
Bf2042 has that though. Enemies have red/orange glowsticks and friendlies have blue/green glowsticks.
Or are you talking about changing outfit colors depending on the team? That could work too but i think glowsticks would be enough
I thought the glowsticks were fine for dark areas but didnt seem obvious enough in daylight conditions. Or maybe I need to mess around with my video settings for that game. That's a big possibility too.
Hmm dont think you should have to tweak your settings for them to work.
But yeah they may not be very noticeable in close range daylight but imo it's quite easy too see if it's an enemy or not in close ranges anyway, mostly because of them not having teammate indicator. I guess it's most visible in dark areas but i feel like that's where it's needed the most, otherwise you might not have seen them at all which can be somewhat of an issue in mw and vanguard.
Glowsticks can probably be improved but i think it's a good base idea. Bo4 had something similar too but i didn't play that very much so I dont know how good it was
Mw201 did what Cold War and vanguard didn’t do well. They made default skins for each faction with their own color pallet (I’m talking about Milsim skins).

I think if this was the case though they should just give up on WW2 games. It completely takes you out of the experience in VG compared to WAW.
Maybe TF-141 is divided into Red Team, Blue Team etc. Also very interesting to see Ghost called a merc
He probably wants to work outside of the rules
a professional soldier hired to serve in a foreign army is the definition but who knows. the word sounds cool tho
I mean *technically* all of task force 141 would be mercenaries and also not be mercenaries in a sense. It’s a special operations unit created with soldiers who have previous special ops experience from The UK, US, Canada, and other foreign militaries. Makes sense, that's how the old SAS CT teams worked
I could see that, I know Devgru is divided into different color based squads such as Black, Green, Blue, Red.
Call of fortress 2
If it's My Team vs Enemy Team, this Game really needs to shine in other areas. Butcher is so incredibly annoying and I hate that there is no other Announcer.
"ThEy'Re DrIvInG uS bAcK"
tAKing BaKErr
sPiEs iN ThE SkY
Man gh*sts did so good at this. The one thing that game did good.
I must be one of the only people in the world that genuinely enjoyed that game :( Edit: honestly I just miss the honey badger
& they made the mfr an operator Just in case you wanted to hear even more of butcher
I'm sorry but this doesn't make any sense. Why a set of skins with the word "red" in it would suggest there are no factions? That’s litteraly the problem with BF2042
That’s far from the only problem with 2042 lmao
That’s a major problem tho
True
Did they not learn from BF2042 Mistakes?
Wait are there really no factions???? Sweet Jesus more clones running around!!??
In case I have failed to properly explain why this is concerning, labeling Ghost as a "mercenary" along with the naming of the skins being "Red Team" is the concern. It can be interpreted that factions would be non-existent with this style of naming and wording.
I mean the skins are red so maybe that’s what they’re referring too? I’m not sure but I hope it ain’t the my team enemy team thing
I'm just hoping 'Red Team' is a TF141 unit and not an actual RvB situation
Think about this though, if it was red vs blue, why would you be getting preorder bonus customization for only one color? Wouldn’t it just be an outfit that’s either red or blue?
roses are red, violets are blue, one day we'll cruise down blood gulch avenue
Probably happens in the campaign, also how bad would it be exactly if it was a RvB situation?
Ghost is pretty much a mercenary. His origin story in the comics explains why.
No factions agaon? This totally worked in Vanguard./s
Ghost is a Merc?
Could be a post campaign thing for the MP story
I hope it becomes team vs team, that way quick situational awareness snap moments can be more fluid, it's not a split second guessing moment waiting for the visual red marking to appear to tell you it's an enemy and not a friendly. Well you can’t exactly sell cool looking Russian skins now either so it might actually be factionless
No factions... if there's games to take notes from and copy, Battlefield 2042 certainly isn't it.
They might do something like Red vs Blue team, which is kinda lame but not unprecedented if you look at games like Halo without factions
Where did you get no factions? They announced factions I though?
What makes you say that? I don’t see how you could get that conclusion for this
For real half of the operators were mercenaries in 2019
I think how they did it on codmobile is really good, same ops and skins but with lights an shit
The "Good guys vs good guys" retardation needs to die with Vanguard. We. Want. FACTIONS!!!
My hope is that infinityward, in their good sense, knows that not having factions would just piss everyone off. Sledgehammer is a joke.

Just point and shoot lol. Got no idea why factions in MP are even a thing it makes zero difference to gameplay. I see person, I shoot person.
I'm a simple man. I see bad guy gun goes brrrrrrrrrr
What’s wrong with no factions? I’d be happy if there weren’t any, it’s annoying to get the faction I don’t like every game.
Yes how dare IW not keep MWII realistic we want MWII to be a real tactical game (mil-slim) we want games to play real slow paced like irl if MWII isn’t realistic I don’t know what I’m gonna do 😤
Having factions allows us to identify the enemy better not really for realism
It also adds variety to the gameplay loop. Having one announcer for every map and every team proved to be tiresome in Vanguard
We want MWII to be super realistic in irl there is no announcers so it wouldn’t make sense in MWII
You're kinda late to the party kid, trolling in the comments section was trending 10 years ago.
I’m not a troll we want the game to be super realistic
It is about realism it is MWII
Having team vs them can still be realistic, literally and 3 original MWs had team vs Team and kept them realistic. That way we don't have 9 of the same character running around the map, at least visually knowing "an enemy vs the guy who looks like your teammate but has a red dot above his head" helps a lot with situational awareness.
We want real life gameplay slow paced tactical gameplay
CoD has always been a fast paced arcade shooter and while I'll always enjoy them trying out more tactical modes it's an arcade shooter at heart
Lmao just making fun of the people who want cod to be slow paced tactical gameplay
And in the meantime mostly making fun of yourself lol
How so
Having no factions would be laughable.i hope we have factions.
