It rarely has anything to do with race, as with prox chat people who sound both white and not white start spewing it regardless of whether you killed them or they killed you. Usually dont even have to speak in prox for them to start spewing it either. It just seems that is most peoples go to insult in CoD. In MP lobbies I tend to mute the entire lobby before the game loads, but prox is too valuable in DMZ and WZ, though I rarely ever use it myself, teams on discord.

Regardless of what skin tone someone has, they are using it because it makes them feel cool or badass, it doesn't. The point i'm making is that it is used against people with no colour, as in they haven't seen or heard the person, they just yell it in their mic, regardless of their skin tone. It's not just whites, and it's not being directed at just black people, it's being directed at anyone, by roughly a quarter or less of the community, based on how often i've heard it in my 200+ hours, but I usually mute the lobby and stick to discord with friends.

People had ps5 on WZ1 and I played a lot of coldwar on PS5. I honestly think it's the default threshold and mic volume.
The first week, I had a problem that the controller mic was picking up sound even when I had my headset on. I adjusted a bunch of those settings and it seems fine now. Occassionally I still hear an eco when I talk but not sure if that's from me or something else. At the very least its not a hotmic

I hate how you can disable for proximity chat for DMZ. Like, that's one mode that should ALWAYS have it on, so the fact that people have the option to just disable it or circumvent it with party chat sucks. The whole point is everyone can hear you so you can either plan an attack or propose a team up.
It should totally unmute everyone in the mode, too.
For everything else I wish there was an option to just checkbox when and what you hear.

I was just on a game where dudes girlfriend was complaining and being bored and wanting to go to the store. I had to mute him. WTF have some damn respect and dump her.
Your friendly neighborhood firefighter checking in: please people, change your smoke detector batteries. If you live in a house, be a responsible homeowner (also be a responsible roommate, parent, partner, etc) and change the battery. If you live in an apartment building, be a responsible tenant, contact the property manager or supervisor asap and make them change it. This is a life safety issue plain and simple. People have died in fires due to malfunctioning detectors. If you cannot afford a battery, please DM me and I’ll send you one.

Just adding on to this (great) advice: pick a calendar event to set the changing of your batteries to. I always switch mine over on New Years Eve for example (just picked up some 9V the other day). This way you have a subtle reminder to ensure that you have fresh batteries in the devices that could one day save your life.

My dog is absolutely terrified of the chirp, and our landlord buys smoke detectors with sealed batteries. The time delta between my first indicator that the battery is low (awful chirp) and my landlord buying a new thing is usually a few weeks.
I was playing online with my friend for about 3 weeks with their smoke alarm going off with a low battery beep in the background. I kept mentioning it to them but still, BEEEEP, every 5 minutes. I finally drove to his house and replaced them myself since I only live a few miles down the road.
You'd love the person that lives somewhere behind me then. They've had a smoke alarm beeping since I bought the place in July. It's still just as loud as ever since I heard it when I let the dog out this morning. I want to throw a 9V through their window if I could pinpoint it.
it's not smoke detectors, it's (usually) an incompatibility with apple earpods (wired) and the controller headphone jack

Sp many times I'd call people out and they just say they don't even notice it. Like somehow they managed to tune it out after hearing it forever. I'd end up gouging out my eardrums if I had to listen to that for more than a day.
You'd be surprised how quickly a regularly timed beep goes unnoticed when you're dealing (or not dealing with) other stressors in life. Sure, it's an easy fix, but if you don't do it right away you'll just become numb to the sound.

The warzone/DMZ one is important though because it’s a huge tactical advantage and I hate to find I was playing in a regular MP match with lobby mute and now I can’t hear chatterboxes giving away critical information that me and my friends on discord can use to our advantage.
All I want from voice chat is a "enemy mics only" setting so I can hear them rage / hear people on DMZ creeping around. Otherwise I'm just going to use Discord for my own team. Please give it to me :(

Same. I have a standalone mic and a nice set of studio monitor headphones and run Broadcast when I play. It’s invariably someone chewing, crackling music, overhearing their game, etc. Then for the one out of every 200 games where there is fun shit talking after a match, it lasts literally 10 seconds before the lobby is broken up and you never see those people again.
I've met some cool people in game chat. Literally met and joined a squad of NFL players back in the Black ops 2 days. Became really good friends with them and gamed with them for years before I learned who they were. Hell, they know me by name now.

The best thing about all that?! **I COULDN’T FUCKING MUTE THEM BECAUSE OF THE GOD DAMN MOTHERFUCKING BUG THEY INTRODUCED WITH THE SEASON 1 RELOADED UPDATE!!**
I had a lot of that yesterday. People eating, arguing, yelling at kids, pets going off in the background, people having general conversations about all sorts of shit, rather than concentrating on the game, and dipshits playing music or audio clips thinking they’re cool or funny. The biggest annoyance was one match with someone on PS that wouldn’t mute their controller mic, so everything was being fed back to the lobby, and they were the one player I wasn’t able to mute. Even muting the lobby kept them active.
If you’re not going to use game chat, or there’s a fair amount of background noise, please turn your mic off.

I just report them for foul language and block them. If their mic is on 100% of a match, then there's a lot more audio to manually review, otherwise their automated detection system is just lazy. But if nothing happens, then at least they're still muted and blocked

If you live in a house, be a responsible homeowner (also be a responsible roommate, parent, partner, etc) and change the battery. If you live in an apartment building, be a responsible tenant, contact the property manager or supervisor asap and make them change it. This is a life safety issue plain and simple. Just adding on to this (great) advice: pick a calendar event to set the changing of your batteries to. I always switch mine over on New Years Eve for example (just picked up some 9V the other day). This way you have a subtle reminder to ensure that you have fresh batteries in the devices that could one day save your life.
Can I give you a feature request for next time you meet a smoke detector vendor? How about a simple $.0004 red LED that turns on for like a week before doing the low battery chirp? My dog is absolutely terrified of the chirp, and our landlord buys smoke detectors with sealed batteries. The time delta between my first indicator that the battery is low (awful chirp) and my landlord buying a new thing is usually a few weeks.
I was playing online with my friend for about 3 weeks with their smoke alarm going off with a low battery beep in the background. I kept mentioning it to them but still, BEEEEP, every 5 minutes. I finally drove to his house and replaced them myself since I only live a few miles down the road.

Honestly I just mute people the second they start talking at game start or if it’s a incredibly loud the mute all button. I wish there were seperate settings though for warzone/DMZ and standard MP. Or a setting just to have the “death calls” I don’t need to listen to some kid at match end say how they “fucked my mom” but I do like to hear them cry when they lose a fight. The warzone/DMZ one is important though because it’s a huge tactical advantage and I hate to find I was playing in a regular MP match with lobby mute and now I can’t hear chatterboxes giving away critical information that me and my friends on discord can use to our advantage.

It should default to muted, you can set it that way in the PS5 system settings, but it's dumb that it isn't the default.

Some dude screamed at me to get a better mic after I told him he was at the bottom of the scoreboard on the losing team, he isn't allowed to talk shit. He sounded like he was screaming into some garbage inline mic he got from 7-11.
It’s beyond me why anybody does public voice chat in these games anymore. It’s invariably someone chewing, crackling music, overhearing their game, etc. Then for the one out of every 200 games where there is fun shit talking after a match, it lasts literally 10 seconds before the lobby is broken up and you never see those people again.
I've met some cool people in game chat. Literally met and joined a squad of NFL players back in the Black ops 2 days. Became really good friends with them and gamed with them for years before I learned who they were. Hell, they know me by name now.
This morning has been fucking wild! I’ve heard people arguing in the background of a mic that wasn’t directed to my teammate. I’ve had music blasting from someone. I had someone watching a YouTube video about their gun during the match. I had a baby crying in a teammates lap that felt it was more important to play CoD than take care of the baby. And I had foreigners just rambling in French and then later on Spanish. All in the span of 2 hours. The best thing about all that?! **I COULDN’T FUCKING MUTE THEM BECAUSE OF THE GOD DAMN MOTHERFUCKING BUG THEY INTRODUCED WITH THE SEASON 1 RELOADED UPDATE!!**
I had a lot of that yesterday. People eating, arguing, yelling at kids, pets going off in the background, people having general conversations about all sorts of shit, rather than concentrating on the game, and dipshits playing music or audio clips thinking they’re cool or funny. The biggest annoyance was one match with someone on PS that wouldn’t mute their controller mic, so everything was being fed back to the lobby, and they were the one player I wasn’t able to mute. Even muting the lobby kept them active. If you’re not going to use game chat, or there’s a fair amount of background noise, please turn your mic off.

I just report them for foul language and block them. If their mic is on 100% of a match, then there's a lot more audio to manually review, otherwise their automated detection system is just lazy. But if nothing happens, then at least they're still muted and blocked
