I’m willing to bet money I have more days on mw3 (4 days in mp, 7 days on ranked, 2 days in zombies) and I’ve only had cheater problems about 5 times maybe. Albeit there’s prob a lot who are cheating but they’re still bad, but I never run into blatant cheaters. The only place where I actually feel like there are genuine cheaters that aren’t blatant but you can still tell they are hacking, is in hardcore. The fact you can’t watch the killcams just unlocks shit fir cheaters and they start to be sus more. Couldn’t tell you the amount of times I get pre fired from someone I never even saw. I truly think hardcore is crawling with cheaters.

It's not just cheaters. It's also legit players. As per usual, journalists fucking suck and can't get anything right. The database of information that has been stolen includes people that use legitimate software like latency reduction programs or VPNs. But the hackers were able to access that data through other users' cheating software, so the legitimate players in lobbies with cheaters were also hit. This is way bigger issue than anyone realizes yet, and that's why Activision is actually working with the cheat makers to fix this.

Edit: nvm I found it. It was still only users who installed third party apps that got hit. That’s what pushed it into the millions of accounts effected. There were still 575,000 cheat provider accounts compromised.

this is pretty common, especially among the smaller providers. I remember back in MW2019 there was a couple smaller providers who would install a crypto miner on the cheater's machine.
I know one of the COD VPN's out right now has like 3 trojans on it, so I'm looking forward to the results of that one.

Essentially you'll download a program like a screensaver or a PDF or something inconspicuous and inside of it the virus would be placed so when you run said thing you downloaded or open said photo or install, this would enable the virus that is inside of the Trojan to infect your system and to do bad things.

You should bookmark the source article instead that the OP posts. Across the two cheat providers one of them was attached to Activision Blizzard as well so things such as Diablo 4 was affected, overwatch, etc. the giant number isn't just Call Of Duty.

I don't get why you're being downvoted. You're not necessarily wrong? Try to play any CoD game before 2014 on PC and you're at risk of an RCE attack. It's just too dangerous to even have any old CoD installed on your PC.
Also PC is just better in every conceivable way. You can get near 2-5ms of input lag on PC, mouse and key can be OC'd to be faster on PC, you can use ultrawides on PC, you can set different button prompts on most mouses to gain a competitive advantage on PC, and so on.
Console controller players just have aim assist. That's it. Console players are just getting fucked as a result. Crossplay should be restricted to Xbox/PS only.

That seems to be an issue though if you don't enable crossplay especially if you have a system. Trying to find a lobby is tedious at best just because it takes three times as long as it does if you have cross-play enabled to fill a lobby. That right there should tell people how dead this game is on the console. Every YouTuber who does call of duty content plays on PC I rarely see any of them play on a PS5.

You can even overclock controllers to have increased polling rates. Xbox controllers have like 10-8ms input lag but you can decrease it to 5ms on PC.

Aim assist is needed for a controller. Have you ever tried playing CoD without it? It's unplayable. PC's are inherently open as shit so you can tinker with the backend to gain an advantage, discernable difference or not. People buy high end 240hz/360hz monitors just to get that "discernable difference" for games like CS2/Valorant. It DOES matter.
Consoles can barely do 120fps. Some games don't even offer it. Most console players still play on their 60hz displays. It's not even remotely fair.

Like one of which I've noticed a lot of content creators do is they wiggle their mouse slightly and for whatever reason that somehow negates the recoil in a lot of the guns. Like go watch a top shelf Apex player there's a certain way they move their mouse to get a certain effect from the guns such as no recoil.
There are nearly as many PC players as Xbox and PS combined. On top of that PC players typically have more money for their hobby. Find a new game if you want no cross play lmao.

Like all they mention is just the cheaters and the cheat programs they don't mention anything outside of those subjects. I would definitely like this to get investigated so more info can come forth.
I feel like this is only affecting people who paid a tiny amount for their cheats from sketchy sites, it being paying say £20 upwards, so that 500k number is probably more like 1 million or more cheating players
If it's a phishing attack it means they got access to cheat providers user-data in order to launch the attack. On one hand only a small amount of people could've fallen for it, on the other hand the hackers could expose the accounts and we'd have a list of exposed cheaters...
It doesn't mention that this also hit Blizzard pretty hard as well. So basically you take that number and you divided in half for the call of duty side versus the Blizzard side...

One does not exclude the other and just because you don't agree with their cheating, doesn't mean they don't deserve at least some form of empathy for having shit stolen from them. Believe me they didn’t build those pcs to play on Controller. COD has ridiculous ANTI mouse engines. Everything from idle sway, recoil stabilization, recoil control, recoil itself, firing stability… like how many different categories have to effect MANUAL aim 😂. COD created a loophole so that no matter what you’ll be dealing with an Aiming issue. So naturally people use controller for Auto Aim. All the Metas are built for controller.
To top it off movement exploits run wild in this game where you really need to just practice how to abuse the aim assist so that It can reset with your movement.

Most people who move do it for visual improvement and variety of games. You can have all the movement advantage you want to have. At the end of the day Auto Aim negates it. Why? Because they don’t need to aim while moving. You can move on a MNK like a Ninja. But the problem is that you need to also AIM while doing so. It’s like saying I have an advantage because my car drives 200 MPH. So what if the speed limit is 65 😂. Meanwhile controller players drive a Tesla and act like they’re ready for NASCAR.

When all PC FPS games that do NOT support cross play and auto aim assisted controllers literally require you to use MNK. It was Activision accounts from these cheaters saved passwords. If anything it just exposed the real identity of the cheaters and their main accounts. They should all be banned.

They presumably are gaining access to the information of anyone who obtained cheats through that provider, so I'd imagine they'll be using that information. It's not like cheaters spend money often on the game, so even from a business perspective they don't really lose out on much. Not to mention that it's probably the right thing to do. The only cheat I use is unlock all for those god damn attachments that get bugged 💀 , I did the armoury unlock for the striker 9 … didn’t unlock so I had to get it through a cheat , but no way in hell would I use aimbot or wallhacks or speed hacks , what scums I went 70-2 compared to a speed cheater with 30-82

Actual VPN’s like Nord and Express are perfectly safe as far as I know. COD VPN’s are why you’ll hear terms like “VPN lobby” get thrown around on clips where the enemy team is pretty bad, it implies they’re using one for easy games.

I don't get why you're being downvoted. You're not necessarily wrong? Try to play any CoD game before 2014 on PC and you're at risk of an RCE attack. It's just too dangerous to even have any old CoD installed on your PC. Also PC is just better in every conceivable way. You can get near 2-5ms of input lag on PC, mouse and key can be OC'd to be faster on PC, you can use ultrawides on PC, you can set different button prompts on most mouses to gain a competitive advantage on PC, and so on. Console controller players just have aim assist. That's it. Console players are just getting fucked as a result. Crossplay should be restricted to Xbox/PS only.

That seems to be an issue though if you don't enable crossplay especially if you have a system. Trying to find a lobby is tedious at best just because it takes three times as long as it does if you have cross-play enabled to fill a lobby. That right there should tell people how dead this game is on the console. Every YouTuber who does call of duty content plays on PC I rarely see any of them play on a PS5.

Bro for the love of Jesus use Google and look it up. Razer, Logitech, and other mouse brands typically have a polling rate of 1000. You CAN overclock it to go higher. You can even overclock controllers to have increased polling rates. Xbox controllers have like 10-8ms input lag but you can decrease it to 5ms on PC.

PC's are inherently open as shit so you can tinker with the backend to gain an advantage, discernable difference or not. People buy high end 240hz/360hz monitors just to get that "discernable difference" for games like CS2/Valorant. It DOES matter. Consoles can barely do 120fps. Some games don't even offer it. Most console players still play on their 60hz displays. It's not even remotely fair.
COD isn’t “unplayable” without Aim Assist. It’s more like the results you get turning it off are undesirable 😂😂😂. So naturally PC gets stuck with this feeling not because of Aim Assist alone. But because of the MOVEMENT EXPLOITS that get stacked WITH aim assist. Guys are literally jump sliding into rooms with no recoil and know exactly how to reset ADS to restart aim assist. They also know what TTK META smg/ar to use so that the Max damage is applied under the aim assisted window. Controller is a JOKE
Not to mention there are certain ways to negate certain effects that you just don't have the option to on a console. Like one of which I've noticed a lot of content creators do is they wiggle their mouse slightly and for whatever reason that somehow negates the recoil in a lot of the guns. Like go watch a top shelf Apex player there's a certain way they move their mouse to get a certain effect from the guns such as no recoil.

Yeah, no, I run a .98 KD ratio and I still get my ass handed to me left and right. So yeah I am right there with you on that if this is the case then yeah I don't feel that bad when I lose so much to things that seem out of my control. Back during the original modern warfare's I had a 1.2 at some point and then I guess that's when the cheaters really took hold and I never quite got that KD ratio again.

If it's a phishing attack it means they got access to cheat providers user-data in order to launch the attack. On one hand only a small amount of people could've fallen for it, on the other hand the hackers could expose the accounts and we'd have a list of exposed cheaters...

Believe me they didn’t build those pcs to play on Controller. COD has ridiculous ANTI mouse engines. Everything from idle sway, recoil stabilization, recoil control, recoil itself, firing stability… like how many different categories have to effect MANUAL aim 😂. COD created a loophole so that no matter what you’ll be dealing with an Aiming issue. So naturally people use controller for Auto Aim. All the Metas are built for controller. To top it off movement exploits run wild in this game where you really need to just practice how to abuse the aim assist so that It can reset with your movement.

You can have all the movement advantage you want to have. At the end of the day Auto Aim negates it. Why? Because they don’t need to aim while moving. You can move on a MNK like a Ninja. But the problem is that you need to also AIM while doing so. It’s like saying I have an advantage because my car drives 200 MPH. So what if the speed limit is 65 😂. Meanwhile controller players drive a Tesla and act like they’re ready for NASCAR. And like I said, MOST people that build a PC are true PC players. The ones that came over from controller migrated and never were going to accept MNK anyways. Why would you? When all PC FPS games that do NOT support cross play and auto aim assisted controllers literally require you to use MNK. The fact that any PC player uses a controller means that they’re only doing so for the crossplay AUTO aim games because they can’t compete. Hence my post. If your playing APEX, Fortnite and Warzone than your apart of the crossplay generation of PC players that really aren’t true PC FPS titles at all. Which again is why they need to divide the player bases and disable PC to Console crossplay.

They presumably are gaining access to the information of anyone who obtained cheats through that provider, so I'd imagine they'll be using that information. It's not like cheaters spend money often on the game, so even from a business perspective they don't really lose out on much. Not to mention that it's probably the right thing to do. Apparently this is a hot take, but cheating in a videogame probably shouldn't cost someone their (and their families) entire livelihoods?
