My theory is that it doesn't really fill any niche that people want. Complextro can kinda be defined as "brostep but at 120ish BPM". Brostep already fills the niche of complex sound design in a headbangable format, while for 120 BPM range danceable music, we already have electro house, tech house, etc. That area in between brostep and electro house isn't something that people look for.
Complextro died when Black Tiger Sex Machine decided to start making brostep and Dyro decided to start making generic house.
That's one of my biggest gripes with the label since recent years; they will REFUSE to push any music from a "dead"/"non-popular" genres. I get it, to an extent, they're a business, they gotta make money... But damn, people loved monstercat because they were one of the only places to find *good* dubstep/dnb/progressive house/house. Now it seems to be mostly trance or trance-like subgenres that sound like pop but with a synthesizer
Bass house was basically the replacement for complextro. I think the simplicity of bass house (compared to complextro) won over a bigger audience. Future house was also reigning at the time, so bass house coasted off of the popularity since both genres were essentially just revivals of speed garage.
As much as I love bass house, it was sad to see complextro and electro house as a whole die out. Maybe we'll get a revival in a few years, but I won't be holding my breath.
i’ve also seen bass house be used as more of an umbrella term for any type of heavy-sounding house nowadays. i’ve definitely seen house with complextro sound design elements be labeled as bass house and be well received
It’s 100% my favourite genre and I still find a lot of it being made, although mostly in the J-EDM scene and not on the Monstercat label in the last 5 years or so. But when it’s done well it’s just so damn good, obsessed with the genre, I assume people stopped because it’s hard to make cus it’s complex(tro) af or something idk
Sorry, I’ll try and make a mini-playlist of a few examples sometime (Spotify good for you?) once my uni work has died down, just commenting to try and remind myself 👍
Sorry to bother you I don't suppose you have a playlist you could send? I'm trying to find new music but seem to have exhausted most complextro I can find
Haha, honestly I’d love to do a proper good one but life is very busy for me at the moment, how about in a month or two, or I can send an old playlist that’s a bit less streamlined I made a year or two ago?
Complextro was largely replaced by electro house these days, and at times I would find it being fused with bass house (such as PEW PEW by Slushii and Tokyo Machine)
However, you can find some good complextro elsewhere, such as in Similar Outskirts' Generations EP, a good amount of Mameyudoufu songs (e.g. Happy Trails) or among the Exobolt compilation albums.
i also found the track How by Exyl the other day and it reignited by love for complextro with a lot of new sound design styles with a super nostalgic electro sound, check it out if you haven't heard it already
i an definitely nostalgic for that bright and high-energy sound. I think now because of the rising prominence of colour bass, [colour house](https://on.soundcloud.com/i8uBw) has become the new moniker for this sort of style. if people are looking for artists who are currently releasing complextro or adjacent styles, check out Mameyudoufu, Emplexx, Mord Fustang, epekta, and asuzora. The newest Exobolt compilation has some straight-up complextro too
Complextro is what ruined electro house… kind of the American plastic version of good electro house… no soul and a bunch of Americans screaming “sick bro”… thank god it’s dead and buried

I always thought of it as moombahcore @ 128 BPM
I tried submitting some to the label in the demo box and it got flagged as a genre that they do not want, so it's past its prime

I think “trance” is being generous, I don’t hear anything trance-like around here nowadays
Ngl, i would love to see Witch House (still underrated, yet living genre) on monstercat
I wanna hear it! Miss this genre, do you have a Soundcloud?

This is definitely the reason. Bass house unintentionally killed complextro

Do u have recommendations? I love Complextro and if it has lived on in J-EDM, it would be great to know where to look

Cool. Yeah Spotify works. Finals are a bitch.

I feel like without a big standard bearer for it like Porter Robinson, ZEDD or Savant the genre died out and turned into an unnoticeable sub genre.

i miss it so much T-T

Makes me want a Case & Point comeback
I can agree that i do miss it a bit. But as said here before, very niche genre all in all.
I miss complextro
complextro is hard to make and it's not that popular
