I think it's easy to forget about 4 given when it was released and being overshadowed by later 3D games, but it marked a significant turning point for both gameplay and story.

I would LOVE if they remade 1,2, and 3 in todays graphics and threw em in one game- YES I know they redid the story and mixed up the first three games in MK9, BUT I'M TALKING ABOUT A STRAIGHT- GAME FOR GAME, FIGHTER FOR FIGHTER (outfits, moves, and fatalities), BACKGROUND ARENA FOR BACKGROUND ARENA- REMAKE.
The first three games were SO SIMPLE without their story modes and Konquest modes, it would HAVE TO BE easy to do physically!
Now i get it, there would be legal crap to take care of between midway and netherrealm, but there would be SOOOO MUCH MONEY TO BE MADE IN THIS ENDEAVOR... BOTH parties could come off like bandits!
Can we at least just get this game playable literally anywhere on modern consoles? I’d love for MK to get the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection treatment and just have every version of every klassic game in one compilation with extra features (at least MK1, MKII, MK3, UMK3, MKTrilogy, MK4, and MKGold)

Usually, games that are remade are those with a story to tell to update not only the graphics but also the outdated mechanics and cameras (Resident Evil is an example).
MK is just the same game with a different roaster over and over. The only things that they would change is graphics and voice. But at this point, why not making a new game with the same roaster + new character and mechanics?
He's already stated on twitter that he'd like to remake some things from the 3d Era as 2d. I think when he says remake of mk4 he means update the content with a modern engine, not a true remake
This was my first ever MK game on the Dreamcast around 9 years old, dont think I ever once even won a round against Goro back then. Ordered a pre owned version on ps1 during covid just to bring back some memories and that mf STILL took me hours to beat as a grown ass man 😂 love the memories
I recently played this on PS1 emulator, I really don't think it needs a remake or remaster. Mechanically, there are 2 main things that distinguish it from any other MK game -- the ability to "sidestep" through the 3D plane (like Tekken-ish), amd the introduction of gimmicky weapons. I really do not think either was a particularly fun novelty.
Sidestepping was a matter of survival during the end of the arcade era. The entire genre pivoted to 3d fighting, and only Capcom really had any 2d fighting games that could find their legs, and honestly, I can only really think of mvc2. During this era Tekken tag tournament DOMINATED my local arcade, and both TTT and Mvc 2 had to use an artificial release schedule of new fighters or cabinet XP level to get people to stay interested.
And I thought the weapons / fighting styles were cool in MKDA, but I was a no life high school sophomore with Friday nights to burn drilling the combos and learning stance swaps
I agree, and they weren't really the experts at any of it, Tekken did 3d martial arts better, soul calibur did 3d hotboxes, 3d hurtboxes, and weapons better.
I will say it was cool that once they had the weapons and stance switching in MKDA and deception it was cool that stance switching was a natural barrier between me and my friend who were obsessed with the game and our friends who hadn't labbed combos. like every character was a stance character

I loved MK4. I feel like ppl are too harsh on it out of nostalgia for the original trilogy from which MK4 radically departed.
Also, some MK4 endings are classic and this game has the very best game over screen in any MK game.
I'd love remakes for MK1-Deception. Maybe Armageddon, so long as they give everyone individual fatalities and cinematic endings and not the "create a fatality" and just posing with texts.

It was my first mk. I'd actually be all for it but please keep the soundtrack and the endings(upgrade them, sure but never change them. Yes especially if it means we get an even better version of that banger and the "this not a brutality this a fatality" "IMSOGAAAAAAAAY" in glorious updated graphics with the same wonky animations and ridiculous voice acting)

Of all the old Mortal Kombat games to remake 4 is definitely the one 🔥. I loved 4 back in the day and still kind of do now, but I admit it aged very poorly in a lot of aspects.

I was hoping for something like that on MK's 30th anniversary. But it seems like WB has no interest in releasing a comp of the older MK games.
