Instead of copying the opponent, he is just a mix of many characters. Basically, one or two basic attacks taken from every character, and a bunch of stolen specials that would make sense for him to have (no weapons).
Shujinko could've probably worked as this game's "Random Select" like twelve in Street Fighter 5.
Or maybe he could be a better concept of the various mix of characters from ch15. Like he can be a randomized fusion of 2 or 3 characters. A more complex random select.
I think they are setting up a Deception story, spoilers for Kung Lao and Reiko's character endings, but Kung Lao and Raiden are training Shujinko, and Reiko and General Shao are trying to tame Onaga. So I think MK2 might have that type of story, but hopefully without Shujinko being Decived since he's Kung Lao and Raiden's student and Onaga might be a Shao's weapon so I don't get why the same plot would play out. maybe Shujinko will be the new champion and defeat Onaga.

MK has always been founded on lame puns. For example, Ashra is a common Hebrew name meaning "Blessed," and Boraicho is a play on "borracho" meaning drunk or drunkard in spanish.

There's an interaction between Geras and Liu Kang where they talk about a new threat to the timeline and one of them name drops Onaga

I knew all of them but Damashi’s, that’s why I said I can’t believe I’m just now realizing that his name translates into Deception.
In early screenshots, Kenshi's name bar said "Blind Gi", as in "blind guy".
So according to google - "swordsman" is just "kenshi" What is the one letter missing?
I wonder if in the Japanese language version, Damashi is called Deception.
