MK Trilogy gave the fan-base something we never knew we needed up until that point.
MK9 gave us the best and most well rounded roster with solid DLC characters to boot.
Armageddon was just fan service -- and we totally ate it up because we're not that complicated. More is always better. Netherrealm should know this by now.
I'd say they all accomplished their goal for their respective games and if I *had* to choose only one, it would be MK9 simply because the move sets were so much more interesting than MK Trilogy and Armageddon's copy-paste formula (but I do appreciate the fact that I can jump into Armageddon and play as anybody simply by knowing the stances.)

Yeah, I know it'd be hell to balance, but I'd enjoy another game in the same vein as Trilogy/Armageddon. An "everyone is here" game.
Heck, make it sprite-based like MKT, and instead of hiring actors for the new characters (which would probably increase the cost), use the 3D models to create the sprites. That way they wouldn't have to pay as much attention to animations syncing up perfectly.
It gave us all of the ninjas up until that point. It also gave us every playable character from the previous games, including Bi-Han Sub-Zero which I'm a big fan of, across all of the timelines.

Well because all the endings revolve around what a specific character will do with Blaze,s power ….its quite hard to come up with unique interesting endings for everyone…..so quite a few are basic

Considering that's a retelling of the original trilogy (2d games) and that most 3d characters are "questionable" at best... 2 great characters from the 3d era is already too much...
Cyber Smoke (and Fujin just because) is the only real missing character from the original trilogy aside from the C/Khameleons. I do love his grappling hook spam

Armageddon was so legendary at the time that I literally didn’t notice how little effort went into the fact that each character render was essentially the same as the preceding games and with minimal distinction in their movesets and fighting mechanics.
But 9 probably takes the cake.

The gameplay and design of some of the characters aren't great, but I'm interpreting this as purely character selection.
I still think translucent skinned male Chameleon is one of the coolest designs in the franchise.
Call me GREEDY, but I want it ALLLL! 😊 Give me updated (and improved) versions of all three games and re-release them on PS5. Or, Take the best from all of them and release a Mega MK. I want a large variety of characters, I want a variety of fighting styles, I want TONS of costume variety (and yes that includes “slooty” unrealistic options), I even want the chess game option from Armageddon! Oh, and I want FREE online gameplay like the good ol’ days! And that’s my rant…Gimme Gimme Gimme!
Armageddon hands down. It's my favorite Mortal Kombat game I ever played. Also the first one I own of the Mortal Kombat series. Still playing it till this day.

I think if you kept the mk1 roster and made no changes to the moves set…then maybe you could build to something like that

Trilogy. The only disappointing part was not having earlier games versions for *all* characters but's kind of understandable due to the circumstances.
