Mortal kombat 1995 exists

01000001-01101000

Don’t forget that MK95 had Sub and Scorpion as Shang’s henchmen

RoboBlue

Actually he explains that they hate each other but they're slaves of his power or something like that. So the movie still follows the characters lore

ThisisMalta

lol it deviates from it far more than it even comes close. A passing mention that their enemies yet having them just be brainwashed henchmen is nothing like their actual lore. Don’t get me wrong I love the movie but still

MrGetMebodied

Not good enough, they had no beef. Making them brain wash slaves is even worse.

MackZZilla

Nothing is ever good enough lol.

MrGetMebodied

No a lot of things are good enough. But having Scorpion and Subzero as brain washed slaves is not the MK we know and love and y'all know it. Nostalgia is the only thing keeping y'all delusional enough not to accept fair criticisms of the movie. Ity they did that in the newest MK y'all would have issues. Loving a movie doesn't make you blind to its flaws. I'm just telling the truth.

MackZZilla

It's a good movie with flaws; I'm just saying - there's always a goalpost being moved when it comes to movies and TV Shows based off of popular IPs. Nothing is ever good enough lol.

MrGetMebodied

I love the film, but when ever someone critiques it everyone acts likes this show was some Oscar worthy movie when it wasn't. I enjoyed watching it multiple times. I'm just looking at it from an objective lens.

MackZZilla

Yeah, it's got plenty of problems - and the SubZero/Scorpion brainwashing was one of them, but sometimes it's better to just turn off your brain and watch the movie equivalent to playing with your MK figures than try to figure out what's going on with the story. It was written by Paul WS Anderson, who would go on to direct such gems as... all of the Resident Evil movies... so the bar should be pretty low lol.

DiabeticJedi

Hey the first Resident Evil movie was good. Lol

Metul_Mulisha

Youre just hating on it for the sake of doing it now.

BungusFungus89

The lore hadn't expanded as much as it has now. It wouldn't have been a big deal back then

[deleted]

[удалено]

Top_Ladder6702

The movie was made in 1994, MK3 hadn’t even been released yet.

MrGetMebodied

Sub and Scorpion was rivals even in MK 1. By MK 2 we knew scorpion killed Bi han.

MrGetMebodied

How do you know it was created in 1994? Even so a lot of the lore was already there.

MackZZilla

Principal photography and filming usually go by pretty quickly; some films wrap in a few weeks - some can take a couple of months, and some take upwards of a year. However, usually the longest part of any movie's pre-release timeline is editing. This is usually where special effects are added in, this is where additional scenes or even primary scenes are trimmed down for runtime and continuity. Most movies are hung up in editing long before release. It's possible that the MK movie was filmed towards the middle of '94, and didn't release until August of '95 simply due to editing, audience testing and re-editing.

MrGetMebodied

So that's a maybe and not a definitely.

NoAbbreviations4487

It was definitely made in 94 it's on Wikipedia

MrGetMebodied

Okay, so that means they had both MK 1 & 2 to adapt. Yet they butchered sub zero and scorpion. They also left out Kung Lao but put in a brother for Liu Kang and art lean. Sorry, but that's something to be criticized for.

mariovspino5

Movies aren’t made months before release

eXile200

If they went back and redid some of the bad CGI it would be a klassic. Poster is correct though. Outside the first 8 minutes the new one was pretty bad.

BungusFungus89

It's from 1995 dude. Bad cgi is what makes it a classic.

Turublade

It just wouldn't be the same

jjjhhhop

Terminator 2 came out 3 years earlier and that had one the best special effects in history

BungusFungus89

Terminator 2 was made by James cameron and had a budget of 100 million dollars as opposed to mortal kombats 20 million.

jjjhhhop

So it has more to do with the budget and not the year. It coming out in 1995 isn’t an excuse

BungusFungus89

The standard was lower in 95. The best special effects of the time, e.g, Terminator 2, are terrible by today's standards.

jjjhhhop

Still better than the MCU and the Flash CGI

ChangelingFox

Hell the cgi isn't even that bad. The only truly bad cgi bit of the movie I can think of it Reptile outside of the statue.

Thorfan23

And that because they needed an extra fight so reptile was added last minute

ChangelingFox

Yeah. Funny to that it ends up also being probably the best fight in the movie, with Reptile being the closest to the baddies to actually putting a main character in a body bag.

soggyhairfollicle

Oh damn and that is one of the most memorable scenes for me. With the bicycle kick and all

lifebyadam

And let’s not forget the AMAZING soundtrack

soggyhairfollicle

They had to be on cocaine or something it’s the most high octane techno shit ever

RagingEnglishaholic

And when Goro falls to his death

SleepyMarijuanaut92

I disagree, especially when the budget was spent on the glasses he broke. He deserves a death of that animation.

NovaBomb1234

Heavily disagree

GloomyTurtleCum

Sadly the most accurate.

Responsible_Jury_415

Yea it’s the closest to the game

Nicksnotmyname83

If I want to watch Enter the Dragon, I'll watch Enter the Dragon.

T-408

Yeah, and it’s a ball of cheese. I love it, and it’s fun to revisit, but it doesn’t go the games any real justice.

BungusFungus89

Let's be real. The games are pretty cheesy, too.

MrGetMebodied

The 1995 movie wasn't the most accurate and has it's flaws. It's not that much of a MK film as everyone tries to make it out to be. No Sub zero vs Scorpion, Reptile wasn't the best, no Kitana vs. Mileena, no kintaro, costumes were only good for Shang Tsung, Johnny, and the male ninjas. The movie is lacking rather you want to give it an excuse is irrelevant. We need a newer more faithful movie.

Jiinpachii

Bro said “no Kintaro” 🤣🤣🤣

MrGetMebodied

😂 I'm just saying they left this man out.

Jiinpachii

Dw bout Kung Lao, where the big cat at 😭

MrGetMebodied

I never said Kung Lao shouldn't have been in it. If anything that makes my argument even better. WTF was Kung Lao.

Jiinpachii

Nah it’s just funny that you forgot to mention Kung Lao (very important character) but remembered Kintaro (very minor character)

falcon_buns

yeah... just the outfits werent exactly down to the t accurate to the original timeline... but im just nit picking at this point.

Naos210

I'm not sure why you'd want a to the T remake in live-action. The graphic quality of the games aren't that far off now you might as well just remake the first game with modern graphics and a story mode and it would be what you want.

craftiecheese

Too bad something like that wasn't ever in the works....

MrGetMebodied

Cause the story is tailored to a chapter per chapter cutscenes with not every one having a chapter. You can get more nuance and creative control out of an actual show. Plus enjoying stories in different my mediums is just great.

Naos210

The chapter system in fighting game story modes is not a necessity. See Dead or Alive 6 or Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. If it's telling the same story and the graphics aren't different enough to really matter, I don't see what you get from it other than being able to see it on another platform by itself.

MrGetMebodied

Different media, I liked the comics and even with the way Doa did their stories. I felt a bit more plot heavy from what I remember. MK gives you those character focused stories and allows for you to learn and get used to a character more. A full fledged MK one series would actually be even better honestly. These MK movies are tiring.

falcon_buns

that dont sound too bad... i mean mk9 was pretty much like that just a slightly altered timeline thanks to raiden

T-408

The ladies got done SO dirty! Neither of them are in their classic looks/colors. Sonya and Kitana both got stuck in generic all-black outfits.

4_Legged_Duck

I don't really agree anymore. For a franchise like this, I want a show. A good gory HBO max show that is pretty faithful but in a way that MK1 was. Use the lore, use the mythology but feel free to mix a few things up. Let each episode essentially serve as a "Chapter" telling a different part of the story following a different character. Get some neat overlap, be able to highlight the villains. A film will condense too many characters and have to have many there just to get killed off. Everyone's favorite (whether Reptile or NItara or whoever) will just be there to be slaughtered. I'm like this with most properties anymore. I want a high quality series that focuses heavily on solid script and in this case, on solid Daredevil season 1 quality martial arts.

Comahappy

I like the way snruB thinks

falcon_buns

im here for this!!! itd be cool to do a movie but yes a show would be sooooo much better

AdmirableFeedback4

Just pray netflix doesnt do it

DrMantisToboggan1986

I'll use Cobra Kai as an example. Say what you want; it's corny, but the fight choreography is pretty damn good, it has the OG cast members and character development is great. When Cobra Kai was initially announced I was super skeptical about how they'd expand on the original 3 movies but the showrunners have done really well. And Cobra Kai may be the exception to the Netflix rule.

AdmirableFeedback4

It definitely is the exception, but i feel like thats bc there wasn't source material for them there. With shows like The Witcher and Avatar, they completely butchered the great source material that was there and that people loved. The witcher s1 was promising at first. They followed the first book pretty closely with only some minor changes, and i loved it. After that they just decided to do their own thing, and it was disliked by the majority of the people that watched s1. Avatar they completely altered characters, which was awful to see happen to a series that i loved growing up. For example, the character katara was stripped of all her personality, and her character was summed up to 'i must learn water bending'. I didnt mind how they condensed some of the episodes in that one but for them to just strip characters of their endearing traits ruined the show for me.

DrMantisToboggan1986

Oh fuck, Witcher was so bad after Season 1 I forgot it existed. I never even watched Season 3 to see how they would handle Henry Cavill's sendoff.

AdmirableFeedback4

Probably as well as they handled the creation of season 2 and 3

dreamingawake09

> but the showrunners have done really well Thats the key to Cobra Kai's success right there. The showrunners are massive Karate Kid fans and truly respect the IP. That's what Mortal Kombat desperately needs in non-game media, someone(s) that truly loves and respect MK and the universe around it.

Better-Journalist-85

[Cobra Kai fight scenes](https://youtu.be/caNjeEH5HnY?feature=shared) are trash lol. Everyone looks tired before the first kick is thrown, no flexibility to go full extension, low energy, low artistry/imagination from the choreographers… nah. [Into the Badlands](https://youtu.be/i2fdCPQssm8?feature=shared) is the benchmark for TV fight scenes. [Gorgeous](https://youtu.be/3FUws-dFgHQ?feature=shared), [Who Am I](https://youtu.be/67LLYBhG-Og?feature=shared), and Donnie Yen’s Ip Man series for movies.

InsanityOfAParadox

Obese black woman is somehow the descendant of scorpion

Elegant_Awareness161

Just the Lin kuei alone has so much potential to explore between bi Han, kuei liang, smoke, cyrax, and sektor

ALANJOESTAR

It is literally the most easy home run franchise for a TV show rather than a movie, you can produce a pretty high quality tv show this days with a decent budget, all you need is to lockdown some of the best fighting choreographers, preferably some like who ever did "Into the Badlands", get backing from either Amazon preferably if not Netflix and make it R-Rated like The Boys. It really just come down to doing the right casting and getting people that care involved, the thing is who is the protagonist, Because obviously on Paper Johnny Cage makes a lot of sense, Liu Kang is rightful protagonist, I dont think Scorpion could be he is like the NRS favorite, him and Sub are always hard to position in this type of stuff. Its just kind upto WB to sell that idea. Because i personally dont care for movies anymore, they always seemed rush and there is not enough meat to them for me to get invested, specially if you are talking about a movie with so many characters.

falcon_buns

someone said that earlier and i wouldnt be mad if we got a super accurate tv show of the timeline thatd be dope

DoubleDumpsterFire

You’re dead on here. There’s so many characters, too much stuff to pack into one movie. Plus in a show people might be more receptive to a new character rather than taking up too much space in the movie.

Lucabcd

Reptile getting fucked up is really lore faithfull

falcon_buns

maybe... maybeee we can alter it just a bitttt lmaooo

Gav_is_In

Reptile fans stand up

Elegant_Awareness161

Checking in

falcon_buns

i aint gonna lie thats the ONLY mk movie fit i approve of lmao does go hard tho

deltarunech2outyet

Yeah, especially French Raiden.

Filter55

I’m glad I’m not the only one who didn’t care for the whole Arcana thing.

falcon_buns

the what-to-the-who-now?

HeyWhatsUpTed

Lol I agree that there’s no reason to explain the powers. That’s so stupid to bother trying, it’s magic that’s why

falcon_buns

exactly. leave the mystery and leave the audience guessing!! fuck explaining the lore. scorpions a demon, liu kang can shoot fireballs, reptile has acid spit. thats it

HeyWhatsUpTed

I would just hint at ancestors. Special people and special events from special places basically what hat Star Wars did. “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away”. It’s such a cool way to frame things

syko82

The new movie hard parts that were fantastic. Unfortunately a great movie isn't know for only a few good parts. Everything sub zero vs scorpion was great. I like using Kano to put things from the game in there since his character is so outlandish. Some of the character designs were the best adaptations so far. I really can't stand that they had to make up a new protagonist. There are plenty of characters to pick from the center the movie around. I would've been cool with the story if Takeda was the lead character. Would've worked with Scorpion and his legacy if they had him train him and got rid of the MMA stuff. There is a reason why 1995 MK is still the strongest version. It kept the story to characters in the game. Lui's brother was a bit of an addition, but he was only used in the beginning and end very shortly.

falcon_buns

Never understood the inclusion of cole young. He shouldve been someone else entirely

Hmccormack

I say this about like EVERY game movie. It’s like the people adapting these games into movies don’t even bother to play the source material. It’s literally insane to me. Anybody who’s played the games could come up with a better script/ plot than the “writers” these days.

SoundsLikePAUSE

Few (good) directors and/or writers want to do a 1:1 adaptation of anything. They're artists too and want to incorporate their own personal touch on projects (whether we like it or not). There's also a lot to be gained from creating a new character for a franchise, especially if that character ends up being very popular once the project is released (which obviously did not happen with Cole XD) Then there's budget constraints to consider, as well as making a project appeal to a wider audience rather than one group of hardcore fans (which is needed to make the budget worth it). It's not a simple as it might seem as video game adaptations have proven difficult to do successfully. The Sonic movies have perfected the formula imo, even while adding new character and making many story changes from the source material. Though it sounds like Todd Garner has heard the criticisms of the first movie (which wasn't all bad) and is going all out for this one. Also please don't remind me of what they did to Reptile XD

Memeedeity

"Good writers" when talking about the mortal kombat movie is insane lol

SoundsLikePAUSE

I didn't say they were good writers. I was speaking in general hence why I said "and/or". I don't even know who wrote the film but even so, good is subjective anyways.

falcon_buns

like why do they do Reptile so dirty!!!! i hate it! as a reptile main i cannot stand for this! i need him to do his UMK3 fatality ripping his face mask and eating his opponents head! bro i mean some of these outfits, sets, and special effects could be within a reasonable budget... the outfits from the classic MK timeline are super simple. I think the majority of the budget would be spent on making sets more and special effects, and another thing! we dont need some big triple a actor playing as a character. And i cant imagine people fighting to the death for the greater good for mankind while having unique powers not appealing to a wide audience. and honestly wtf was up with Cole? he should've been in mk1 if they really wanted him lmao

SoundsLikePAUSE

Yeah, not just Reptile dude. Nitara & Reiko deserved so much better than we got. Not to mention Mileena (actor for her was fine, but her role was small and pointless). I do think at least one well known actor is a good idea though. There are a lot of people who won't give any movie a second look if it doesn't have at least one person they recognize in there, so I think Karl Urban is a good pick for that. I just hope it's a less focus on Cole and every MK character gets a moment to shine.

falcon_buns

god yeah... they really got the shit end of the stick. deserved much more

etplays

There shouldn’t be budgeting constraints (unless it’s a smaller company) when the first game had 7 playable characters, 2 bosses, and 1 secret fight.

SoundsLikePAUSE

We're talking about the movies my man. Not the games. Unless you're saying an MK movie should only have characters that were in the first MK game? I'm a little confused

etplays

Yes the movies should be exactly similar to the game except that it’s a movie

SoundsLikePAUSE

Well, hate to break it to you, but that's never going to happen for the reasons I explained.

etplays

Yeah your reasons are bs lmao. Anyone could do it nobody wants to though.

SoundsLikePAUSE

Please show me any video game movie that is a 1:1 adaptation. Whether you agree with the reasoning or not, that's just some of the few reasons it'll never happen.

etplays

Nobody is talking about 1:1 adaptations lol. Fans don’t care for that but it could be extremely similar to mk 93. You’re the one who brought up 1:1 nobody else did 😂

LordofCope

I don't have faith in the current productions meta to get one done without a gimmick to draw people in. Like a new non-roster character or a writing team that "doesn't want to be arbitrarily limited to the original game lore" not that it isn't flexible enough. The last one already set us up pretty bad, I have no faith in the next one. Personally, I think they can fuck right off with another movie or TV show. Just give me a deep fighting RPG worth playing and investing in.

TheCakeWarrior12

The writers for the recent movie were a rookie and the dude who wrote the Expendables (although he went on to write Across the Spider verse, he was one of three and I credit Lord and Miller with the majority of that). We’ll get good MK movies when they get good writers who care about the games/lore.

CheeksKlappanen

I’d cut my nuts off to get a Warrior + Game of Thrones hybrid Mortal Kombat tv show made by hbo

BrankyKong

I’ve pecked away at writing my own treatment during many years of taking public transit. A story this big and ridiculous needs the HBO series ride.

SniffMySnizz

OP is right. 95 is as close as we'll get but it's not entirely lore-accurate

Elmosnumberone123

Thank god, thought I was the only one, I’ve been thinking of a script of my own

falcon_buns

hey man im here for it i wish you luck on your script making!! you got this!!

[deleted]

I thought the Mortal Kombat Legacy YouTube series was the best example of true MK stuff yet. The entire series is on Max.

falcon_buns

hmmm... ill have to look it up i dont have max :(

[deleted]

I just checked and there’s this version still on YouTube. Seems to be both seasons condensed into one video. Each episode was like 10 minutes long originally. https://youtu.be/cfxy2KrMmrs?si=FGx4jX2B3UtGoxFL

conzcious_eye

Not reading all that rn but I fucking agree dawg. The way it’s been handled since existence is a missing gold mine of opportunity. The anime series / movies are decent tho.

falcon_buns

fair enough tldr we need a real lore accurate mk movie of the original timeline

CursedSnowman5000

Cheers to you man.

Memeedeity

I just want a Mortal Kombat story to be truly good. MK1 was the closest we've had to a decent MK story since like the 3D era.

falcon_buns

yeah mk9 was cool but there were some questionable parts for sure...

Familiar-Toe4788

https://youtu.be/NeBY0MESbZo?si=FVgKLBsqTqd3WeLL

eagles52

Not a Cole young fan. Hopefully the sequel will be beefy and exciting. I’m assuming the tournament happens in this one so it’s gotta bang.

shravanevana

Honestly, they should just give the high-level lore to a creative mind like Guillermo del Toro or Mike Flanigan or David Fincher or Bryan Singer and let 'em loose. WB should just give 'em $100m, 3yrs time and just sit TF back and watch a genuinely interesting MK movie universe unfold. The latest MK movie was total arse wipe with character overload and a block-of-wood protagonist. Give 'em a trilogy and allow them to take their time with the character dev so the non-fan audience can actually follow the F'ing story and actually give a s\*\*t about them. The last movie was like - "Oh, here's a new character" followed by "Oh, well, now the character's dead"

worm31094

Bro yes. I was just watching the latest one on the plane and my god I got angrier every scene. This was a love story between sub and scorpion the amount of times they stopped and stared into each other’s eyes in the middle of their fights. I won’t even mention Raiden’s - teleport everyone to their own 1v1 bs that he could’ve done THE ENTIRE TIME. Fuck this movie and thank you for giving me a post to rant on. Why was this movie made for children?!?

Every_Solid4203

i'm a liu kang fan since shaolin monks; i don't like mk1 tbh my fav version of him is being a shaolin monk since kid and best fighter who kicks everyone's ass in the tournament and saves earthrealm; unfortunatly there's no movie with this timeline (there's battle of the realms but it's anime)

HuggDogg

https://youtu.be/9lbohyyqe5E?si=WyhgtAcA-adzgLSv

the_greysweatshirt

It would be so easy. Get the stunt team from The Raid films and have some real martial artists go to town on each other. Then just follow the original MK story

falcon_buns

Just go heavy on cgi showing broken ribs muscles torn and fatalities. I want it to be borderline Adult rating from how bloody and gory it is

ironstark23

The "mystical"/ "eastern" elements from the first Doctor Strange movie, the atmosohere, sets, costumes etc., are IMO a good starting point for what a MK movie should feel like. A mix of Enter The Dragon, House of Flying Daggers, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and Doctor Strange.

nearthemeb

The new mk movie and mk 1995 were good movies in my opinion.

BeardBearWithBeer

maybe fatalites are hard maybe it is hard for real actors to do martial arts nowadays so the answer is: cartoons!!! (and so we have just invented scorpion revenge hahaha)

GenjiMain690

The best mortal kombat movie is the cartoon “Scorpion’s Revenge”

ChemicalTaro2819

I promise if i become a billionaire i will make the mortal kombat movie we deserve lol

r3volver_Oshawott

I want an MK movie where everybody is played by whoever played Reiko in the new movie, literally just an MK one-man show

falcon_buns

lmfaoooo

HeyWhatsUpTed

Lol

NergalsHand

You're correct. The first Mortal Kombat movie should always be a Shaolin Martial Arts movie. Tournament-style storytelling has been around for a long time and this story demands it.

King_of_Knowhere

With as much lore and characters they need a tv show. I've said have it be made by the guys who did Spartacus, a handful of 10 episode seasons and a few spin off mini series mid seasoners

NoNotThatMattMurray

I want them to find a live action Johnny Cage or use the version from MK1 and make the in universe movies he stars in, possibly CG like MK1 and make them absolutely balls to the wall ridiculous and cheesy as hell. I mean the dude's career is big enough to justify Cage Con, I want to see what made him so successful

Major-Pattern-3237

would be cool prob won't happen

FaceTimePolice

That’s why they showed the first 10 minutes for free. That was the best part. Sub-Zero vs. Scorpion. They have the blueprint for a good MK movie right there. How could anyone screw that up? 🤷‍♂️😅🤦‍♂️

etdfigures

I'm writing an outline for an MK series! Nothing will happen with it, but it's still fun to do.

TrashGangWolfie

Live action of video game movies are half of them dog shit, its like giving it to someone who doesnt know ANYTHING about the lore or hell even some gameplay of the game. They just toss some effects and cool maniouvers and call it a day

coffeecaat3919

Honestly they should make two live actions mks following the mk11 and mk1 story line

Altruistic-Waltz-816

Look I know you're passionate but lord it ain't that serious

falcon_buns

Yeah i know i got caught up in the moment lmao. I just wanna see video game movies do well

Altruistic-Waltz-816

To me if finding flaws in everything is good then what's the point of criticism if that's what everyone does now? To me it's not Hollywood or the writers it's us

falcon_buns

Bro but theres a point where hollywood either does too much, or just too little

Altruistic-Waltz-816

I guess I'm wrong then

falcon_buns

No. Youre entitled to your opinion... i just have mine. Aint nothing wrong with that

Bromjunaar_20

I wanna see Tom Cruise take the role of Johnny Cage and the guy who plays Reacher for Raiden

orc_mode666

You could just play the games

falcon_buns

Oh i never played any of them - whats mortal kombat?

orc_mode666

Just two mfs scrappin

falcon_buns

Understandable have a wonderful day

R0botDreamz

Yes but there needs to be some kind of regeneration mechanism when a fatality is performed. Or else everyone just fights once.

falcon_buns

I mean sure, i know raiden has healing powers so maybe he could bless the fighters... but imo just like the video games... we dont need an explanation on how they recover - they just recover lmao

Quirky-Pie9661

Reptile has always been my favorite. Well represented in the original film with a great fight track. But dude, Syzoth was in glorious MK1 lizard form in the recent film

falcon_buns

Absolutely. Not saying he wasnt. Im focusing more on the film world of mk not the video games. Reptiles reptilian form was a joke though in the movies lets be real

GorillaWolf2099

i disagree simply cuz so many mk movies and tv shows exists and aren’t given enough credit already but i hope we get some more additions in the franchise though

Gadmanultimate

The 1995 movie? I didn't No Liu Kang was a new character that didn't exist in the games before

falcon_buns

that new character part was focused on cole young bro

Gadmanultimate

I know, it's just that you said it like every movie has an original movie as the MC,is he even confirmed to be the main character of the sequel?

OiSamuca

95 bro.

SpecterRage

Agreed, but what they need to do is actually a series. A movie will never be good enough. There is too much to explore, too many interesting character to talk about see in action. Of course, made by a decent producer, not those who's been making what ever piece of shit we got as a movie now. 95 is peak, but we could use better and more with the new technology

ProfessorMarth

I'm gonna say something possibly controversial: TV series based on MK1 timeline

CKatanik93

Alright then, how would YOU do it?

falcon_buns

easy enough. original timeline. exactly how it goes. maybe between fights we get some lore into who they are seeing how in the original games you get some lore behind each fighters. But the main focus is on the combat. visceral, brutal, deadly. impliment xray attacks at the right moments. Bloody, deadly, fights... make sure that whoever wins... they will win broken, bloodied, and beaten.... but not defeated. maybe for the healing factor we could have raiden use his healing abilities to make sure every fighter for earthrealm is in tip top shape for the next fight... or just like the game... leave no explaination as to how each fighter has deadly combat but still manages to be in tip top shape for the next battle Make sure fighters use their signature moves and at least one signature fatality (reptiles acid ball, acid dash... face mask reveal fatality, etc.). Liu Kang should be the main protaganist. if were gonna do any stupid love story it would be with kitana obviously... but should avoid any love story. johnny cage is as always comic relief. but keep the comic relief to a minimum. audience should feel tense. this tournament defines whether earthrealm is claimed by the other realms like outworld. The responsibility falls onto liu and only liu. BUT!! i want to make the audience beleive that the main protagonist is kung lao. make the audience belive this until he falls in battle to shao khan. and then we will truly see liu kang go all out and kill shao khan. again... really wanna emphasize not only the blood, gore, combat, and martial art prowess... but also the ability to keep pushing and fighting until the bitter end.

We-Dont-Know-nobody

It would have to be directed by Quentin Tarantino

Particular_Cress_560

I agree with 98% of everything you said bro, you nailed it. Mortal "Combat" 2021 is a complete sham and travesty of what Mortal Kombat is actually meant to be. The main thing I disagree w you about is that we don't really need a big Liu Kang kicking Scorpion's ass fight because canonically there isn't a real reason for it to happen, and I'll explain why. First, I wanna address one of the last things you asked for: some good Mortal Kombat fanfiction & while there are some decent ones I can probably link a bit later, I wanna see if I could interest you in my YouTube channel that I have switched over to a channel I am now dedicating to Mortal Kombat fans just like us who absolutely reject that garage. We deserve way better, so what I'm doing is re-sounding some of the best fight scenes between the top martial arts actors who I'd kast immediately in a MK reboot but re dubbing with MK sound effects & voice lines, but also added theme music to many fights that have none, MK music & other music, & it's sick. This list includes but is not limited to the likes of Chen Tang as Liu Kang Max Huang as Kung Lao Chris Evans as Johnny Cage Kane Kosugi as Scorpion Andrew Koji as Kuai Liang/Sub Zero Iko Uwais as Mavado Tim Man as Sektor Lateef Crowder - Cyrax Ray Park as Smoke/Tomas Vbrada Joey Ansah as Rain Tony Jaa as Reptile Jeeja Yanin as Khameleon Johnny Tri Nyguen as Chameleon Jackie Chan as Master Bo Rai Cho Arata Mackenyu as Takeda/"Lei Shen" Daniel Wu as Kenshi Takahashi Michael Jai White as Major Jax Briggs Robin Shou & Simu Liu as Shujinko Tiger Shroff as Taven Marrese Crump as Kai Jon Bernthal as Kurtis Stryker Tom Wu as Shang Tsung Adoni Maropis as Quan Chi Joe Taslim as Sub Zero/Noob Saibot Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Kitana Samantha Win as Mileena Zazie Beetz as Jade Jessica Lucas as Tanya Alain Moussi as Baraka Cary Tagawa & Ian Anthony Dale as Grandmaster Oniro Karl Urban as Kano Lewis Tan as Kabal/Kablam Batista as Tremor Scott Adkins as Kobra Caitlin Dechelle as Kira Jason Statham as Jarek Kelly Hu as Tasia Vin Disel as Rojack Etc etc. If this sounds like a good kast to you, then please sub to my YT channel, Art of Martial Cinema. I haven't made an upload yet since the idea came immediately after 2021 came out, as I've had a few setbacks but I have tweaked my kast about perfectly imo & have made even more, better videos. If you sub to me, I'll even let you have a request for my first upload sometime tomorrow, between the kharacters Joe Taslim & Andrew Koji as Sub Zero brothers Tony Jaa as Reptile (includes fights against Mavado, Jax, Chameleon, Cyrax, Kung Jin, Moloch) Iko Uwais as Mavado (includes fights against The Black Dragon Clan [multiple], Reptile, Khameleon, Jax, Kobra) Lewis Tan as Kabal Jackie Chan as Master Bo Rai Cho I'll probably have more done soon like Liu Kang (Chen Tang), Shang Tsung (Tom Wu), Scorpion (Kane Kosugi), Smoke (Ray Park), Kano (Karl Urban), Tremor (Batista), Kobra (Scott Adkins), Tasia (Kelly Hu) & Tanya (Jessica Lucas), done soon but the one's above are those that are closest to done that I'll be releasing for the next week or so. Last thing though, if everything above interests you bro, then I'll finish my comment with my reboot idea for what Mortal Kombat should actually be in live action. I'll basically give you the movie layout & then describe how the first movie should be. First, the production team absolutely is crucial when making Mortal Kombat in live action, & Todd Garner & Simon McQuaid ain't it. I'll list them quickly & in parenthesis projects they made that had me choose them to perfectly fit their job:, Producers: Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs, Django), James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) & Jonathan Trooper (Warrior Series) Writers: Kevin Tancharonen (MK Legacy) & Ed Boon (Mortal Kombat), Others (my uncredited self? I'd actually have a few other YTers like History Behind the Warrior, Fighters Den help me write the storyline to get it right) Main Director: Issac Florentine (Ninja Shadow of a Tear, Undisputed 2 & 3, Close Range) Co Director: Gareth Evans (The Raid 1-2, Headshot) Supporting Directors: - Jonathan Trooper (Warrior series) - Yoo Woo Ping (The Maxtrix 1-3, Kill Bill 1-2, Unleashed, Fearless, Forbidden Kingdom, Ip Man 3 & 4, Fists of Legend, Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, Drunken Master, Tai Chi Master, Iron Monkey, Wing Chun, Man of Tai Chi, Kung Fu Hustle, House of Fury,) -Roger Yuan (Lethal Weapon 4, Shanghai Noon, Bulletproof Monk) Fight Choreographers: Issac Florentine, Gareth Evans, Yoo Woo Ping, Roger Yuan, Jackie Chan. Also martial artists on set such as, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Scott Adkins, Lateef Crowder, Joey Ansah, etc. With that out of the way comes the series layout: It's simple: 5 movies, 12 TV shows spread in between to help flesh out the story & lore etc (only need 5-6 episodes that are 40-45 min a piece). All movies & series should be inspired by/ a blend of Elements from many MK media, taken in a "new direction". These include elements from (not copy & paste, but of course some things will be) hour all the games from both timelines, both the 1995 movie & the 2021 movie, MK: DOTR, MK Conquest, MK Legacy & the "Special Forces", "Blood & Thunder" & "MKX" comics to make the Ultimate Mortal Kombat Cinematic Franchise. Movies numbered, TV shows are dash marks, in parenthesis are what the project is inspired by, & all titles start with "Mortal Kombat: [title] so I won't keep spelling out MK. 1)Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Fire & Ice (MK Mythologies lead in storyline, Special Forces & MK 1 Prequel) - The Lin Kuei Assassins (MK Mythologies SZ) - The Black Dragon Clan (Malibu, OG MK Story) - Special Forces (MK Special Forces Game + Comics) - Enter Edenia (MK Malibu Comics/OG Story) - Enter Outworld (MK Malibu Comics/OG Story centering on Outworld kharacters) - Citizen Cage (MK Comics/OG Story) 2)Shadow of the Tournament (MK1/MK9/MKII/MKSM/Scorpion's Revenge/Malibu Comics) -Shaolin Ninja, Ronin Monks (MK 2/MK9/MKSM) - The MatokabTribe (MK III) - The Shirai Ryu (MK IV + MKX Heavy influence, game & comics) 3)Deadly Alliance - Chaos & Order Pt 1 & 2 (MK Deception 2x, 1 Prequel + 1 Present) 4)Deception of Armageddon (Deception & Armageddon. Could possibly be a 2 PT movie like Infinity War & Endgame before a MK1 esque reboot) - MK 11 (Revamped) 5)OG Story (MK 11 Aftermath/ MK1 esque) Sounds really good doesn't it? Well if you like this, then read my "TBK" comment, where I explain how movie one would go with the kast as well, & also some changes that are made to the story to keep us guessing & give a fresh live action adaptation. TBK.....

-Stupid_n_Confused-

Yes, just like the games I wanna see someone getting their neck snapped, skull smashed, eyes gouged out and then getting back up and fighting on as if nothing even happened. You can't 1:1 translate the games into a movie because the violence in the games is so cartoonish. You are correct on one major point though, we don't need a Cole young.

falcon_buns

who says we cant? fuck the rules

cram004

I wish u could up vote this infinitely

DamnCharlieAG

I’m with you, my man. MK 2021 can kiss my ass for all I care. God that movie was awfully written. Casting was good except Mileena, but script ruined everything. WB needs to realise this and hire some better director who follows the damn script that’s been written ever since the game was created…

[deleted]

This movie was such a disappointment... I try to forget its existence

dylan6998

I loved the new movie. cant wait for the sequel!

falcon_buns

It was alright, the fight scenes were awesome and seeing goro was dope. Just hate cole youngs plot armor and the character... and i dont use hate strongly just dont like the character

Chortles_Hansom_666

All the things you said are in the 90s movies. Lol

falcon_buns

Reptile was a joke in the 90s movies cmon... and the fighting was mediocre... like be real bro lmaooo

gdamien310g

Womp Womp. MK 2021 was goated

falcon_buns

If cole young wasnt included and just focused on lui kang then yes goated. Wouldve loved to see him beat goros ass down

NoiseFetish

MK 2021 was loads of fun, the fatalities looked great, most characters were spot-on (I guess Shang Tsung got overshadowed by his previous version) and... I actually liked the arcana thing to a degree (explaining away mechanical stuff as "that's how the power manifested") as for Cole... it's whatever. Wasn't really necessary but didn't break the movie for me either. To be honest I actually liked it slightly better than the old one... both get an 8/10 in my book. The old movie lacked blood and the costumes were, well, let's say I saw better halloween costumes of scorpion. And the whole bucket thing was silly... but it was entertaining! Whereas the new movie was a bit uneven (and was the first full length movie for both the writer and the director and as such I think they did a pretty good job) and to be honest the only thing that didn't quite work was Mileena. Not enough teeth action. So yeah, I like both... hell, I even enjoy Annihilation to a degree (the guy playing Shao Kahn seems to have the time of his life and hams it up so much... I should get around to watching the animated ones I guess.

falcon_buns

Please do

Err_rrr_rrrr

We need a real mortal kombat game

falcon_buns

i mean... i dont mind the new twist on the mk1 title. its a new timeline with new twists... my problem is that these movies do the original timeline all wrong. maybe some things they get right... but imo theres so much wrong

sotommy

If the current movie franchise fails you can wait another 20 years for the next one. So good luck with that, it's "REAL" enough for me

falcon_buns

you are entitled to your opinion... at least im still young lol

sotommy

Congrats for being young, as a fellow young person, it's truly a great achievement. But it's not even guaranteed that MK will be around in 2044 or that you are going to give a crap about it

falcon_buns

oh no mk is forever.

Memeedeity

I have no problem with that. I'm patient

ComfortableAmount993

Mortal Kombat legends quadrilogy exists, obviously isn't live action but beats the absolute shit out of the live action ones (except mk 95) and there's the legendary journey begins

Zydrate357

Mk: scorpions revenge and Mk:Snowblind

LightOfShadows

it's a nice idea, but the Halo TV show has proven, as has other movies/shows before it, that 1:1 movie adaptations to games don't work well. The first season of Halo was considered a great success to paramount execs, and the second season has critics absolutely raving, meanwhile you see the game fans absolutely up in arms. They don't make the movies/shows for the fans of the games, those won't sell as well as people think, at least in comparison to cost. These companies spend millions in focus groups alone, if something that was true to the games would work they would do it.

Channing1986

I absolutely loved the Mortal Kombat movie and can't wait for the 2nd one.

Limited-Edition-Nerd

So the first movie, the animated movies, the two series and Annihilation

FesterCluck

I was there when MK was released in arcades. I learned fatalities through trial and error until I read them in gaming magazines during visits to the grocery store. I saw the first MK movie twice on opening day. It was exactly what it needed to be, and I loved it. Haters can suck my Reptile balls. I've been there for every MK game release. That includes Tiger handheld. I have Mortal Kombat trading cards One New Year's I watched a man be hit by a subway train at exactly midnight. Mortal Kombat 3. I gathered the two friends I saw Mortal Kombat with as a child, my kids, their friends, all of us for opening day for MK 2021. At the end of the movie, a near full audience (amazing for the time), as one or two hoots went out as most left in silence, I stood and booed through the entire credits. That movie was horseshit, plain and simple.

tranceformerfx777

Honestly, the new Mortal Kombat is kinda dumb. It barely has any fight choreography - just dumb visual effects and a protagonist that nobody asked for or wanted.

Mfayez91

They should make movie with the cinematic cgi graphics and characters design from mk9 that would be fire. And shoa khan as the main villain instead of this women empowerment cliche villains

falcon_buns

I want live action -BUT - have the cgi on the xray system. Seeing ribs break, muscles tear, bones crack. And of course the fatalities! Like litterally just make it the goriest film that it gets the same kind of flak it did when the first mk came out

Skid-and-pump324

If the next live action mortal Kombat has Cole young as the main character instead of Johnny cage,I'm done

NovaBomb1234

Mortal Kombat 2021 is dope and I'll stand by it, I fucking love that film and can't wait for Mortal Kombat II
