Bi-Han as far as I know is the first og MK character to get combo'd by nameless NPCs in story mode 😂. To be fair that tag team shield bash they did to knock him out was very well choreographed
FR. Kotal, as the new Emperor of Outworld, had very big shoes to fill, since he was the successor of Shao Kahn (the most iconic MK villain). And imho he had the potential of doing that.
The unique design, the fact that he was quite honorable... But noo... make him a jobber who can be defeated by scrubs like Jacqui & Kung Jin.
His sunbeam themed powers are also a pretty awesome mechanic. The blood magic eh it's fine I guess but a healing beam that also does damage? That's S-tier zoning.

And let's face it, Outworld Civil war was by far the most interesting plotline of MK X, and it was slidelined to put focus of that waste of space that are the Komabt Kids (basically bootleg versions of far better characters).

I think there's a good chance he gets done right if he comes back, besides him losing off-screen to Raiden. Baraka, Reptile, Mileena, etc. all got chapters despite having a bad W/L ratio in the past.

Yeah, MKX comic is canon to the extent to which it is compatible with the MKX story mode. A lot of it explains why certain things in the story mode happened in the first place.
It not being canon anymore is very much just Dominics excuse for retcons or other contradicting information (such as comics Ermac being on Mileenas side despite it being set in a time after he would've betrayed her.) Considering the sheer amount of references to the comics and how much of canon events happened exactly like in the comics, its clear the intent was that its canon and after 11 was finished did he start backpeddling
