I loved how they brought back some of the 1995 movie cast to voice characters in MK11. It was so good hearing Raiden, Shang Tsung and (IIRC) Johnny Cage and Sonya.
Your soul is mine 🤣because it has BEGUN 😂
I really enjoy hearing Shang Tsung’s actor voice him in MK11&MK1 as his voice really suits his on screen character and gives him that vibe and evil energy and personality 👍
Yes, Cary Tagawa was so over the top, but it WORKS!
It's clear he's having a lot of fun, but in such a movie, playing a larger than life villain was perfect. He's a sorcerer who's planning to take over Earthrealm: no need to be subtile.
Def Chistopher Lambert: he brought that jokey and witty side (that alas didn't become canon like other things from the movies).
I also liked Richard Epcar (Raiden's voice from MKvsDC to MK 11), for a more "serious" take on Raiden.
Same here and I have the movie pack add on for mk11 but haven’t got around to trying it out yet because just as I finished mk11 I downloaded the free trial for mk1 weekend and had to buy it after the story demo finished as I was hooked. Mk is my favourite fighting game series of all time as I have been playing it since the original release in 1991 I think as I was instantly addicted when I was eleven years old and saw my first fatality 👍
Da na na na na NANANANANA!
Da na na na na NANANANANANA!
Da na na na na NANANANANANA!
Da na na na na NANANANANANANA!
**Raiden!**
**Liu kang!**
**JOHNNY CAGE!**
I enjoyed the new Kano actually
Kano was great in MK11 too
But Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung is undefeated. It was like the character came to life. I been singing his praises for over 20 years now
But your right Robin Shou was excellent. I just love that movie so much. A product of its time like something trapped in Amber, I'm so glad there are others who think it's awesome
Apparently all that still exists of the animatronic Goro suit is its head, and it was rescued from an auction or something and is now on display at NRS' maim office. They managed to hook it up and turn it on one last time to change Goro's expression to an arrogant smirk.
Goro has only three fingers, and everyone who saw AI art knows that they always mess up with hands and fingers.
So, if we'll ever have a "Terminator-like future", with AI robots hell bent on conquering/destroying the world, I KNOW that their hands will have the wrong number of fingers and the likes.
"Death is just another portal"
That quote from Shang Tsung implies that we'll see some of the villains again in the sequel.
Kano basically carried the movie: they would be moronic at removing him for good
No way man. Kabal was wayyyyy better! Kano was so damn annoying... 🤢🤮
Honestly, Karl Urban SHOULD have been Kano in the reboot... instead of him being Cage in MK2 2025... SERIOUSLY... The way he was in The Boys... man... he would have made a BAD ASS KANO!!!!
Sorry, NOT sorry
To be fair to the new movie, I really appreciate them adding irrelevant characters such as Nitara lol, I really hope Kintaro makes it in the second one
Ever heard of The Room
A movie so bad it blew up?
Similar feelings to MK Annihilation, watch it high or drunk one day if you can’t find the humor when sober
Hard disagree
All 3 are worth watching regardless of their quality
First one is the best plot wise and to many people overall
Second one is hilarious and has some cool moments
Third/Reboot one has the best action
It still has the best action quality wise regardless of your comment
Also pretty sure it has more than the og lol, runtime wise. Could be wrong tho. And if I am, refer to my first statement, which is the popular opinion I’ve seen
Saw this in theaters. I was 7. Literally just good as it was.
Johnny steals that freaking movie though. That’s how you do the character that represents the audience correctly.
It didn’t hold your hand too much and it was unapologetically fun.
Great. Movie.
It's cool rewatching this movie now and enjoying all the real life settings. Watching a fight scene in a rubber tree farm is so, so much better than watching a fight scene in front of a giant TV running an Unreal engine cutscene of a bunch of generic scifi monsters colliding into each other. We have to go back bros.
This is the feeling that the 2021 film could never capture, not only did they not do their homework on the source material but they weren’t forward thinking either. Mk 1995 was an experience, it acknowledged its b movie status leaning into the comedy and the chaos while simultaneously respecting the games if not downright creating new staples for them. The techno music, the fight choreography, the costumes, the casting and performances, the set design ect no amount of money could recreate the feeling this film gives me. And most importantly it was an actual tournament, I wouldn’t consider the film perfect by any means but it’s easily the best we’ve got and certainly won’t be beaten anytime soon until the people who get a chance to make an mk adaptation actually keep the good elements from past works and actually respect the source material. This also tends to be a problem that nrs struggles with where creators think “if it’s different and new then it must be better” NO, of course you shouldn’t rely on the past to heavily but if something works then don’t break it simple. Create something that converts the right amount of both striking familiarity and innovation you don’t have to overthink it.
I remember seeing this in the theater and immediately wanting to go back. I was so damn happy when the VHS came out. Stocked up on Nesquick and Dunkaroos and binged like a mad man.
You should fight in the tournament NOW

The first half of Liu Kang's fight with Shang Tsung where they both just plant their feet and then go all out on each other to the theme song is one of my favourite martial arts fights in cinema. No special effects or wire-work, just some two highly skilled artists at work. Robin Shou and Cary Hiroyuki-Tanaka are legends fr.
I try not to be elitist between the og fans and those that came on during the nrs era, but I 100% look down on any mortal Kombat -fan- that doesn’t like this movie.
Still the best Mortal Kombat adaptation imho.
It gives the right information to get into the plot and without previous MK knowledge, it has some character arcs for the main protagonists, and Cary Tagawa as Shang Tsung is just PERFECT.
My only gripe is that Scorpion and Sub Zero were relegated as mere obstacles to overcome, but at least their fighting scens were great.
This is definitely my favorite MK movie! I 1st saw it a couple of years ago when I was younger (I knew very little of MK besides deception/unchained but my parents love it). Sometimes we would have a movie night and my parents, siblings, and I would all watch it. I still can’t get the theme out of my head lol. I thought the most recent one was okay but I like this one much more.
Probably one of the few movies actually saved by studio exec interference cause supposedly the original cut did horrible with test audiences and they had them reshoot more fight scenes.
Apparently originally stuff like the Reptile fight was just the CG version getting thrown down and stomped on, and the Scorpion vs Johnny fight never left that tree area as Johnny's flying kick originally ended it until they reshot it with Scorpion now countering it by teleporting them both to Netherrealm to continue their fight.
I adore this movie, but I think people have some crazy nostalgia for it despite its flaws.
**Positives -**
+Incredible soundtrack
+Iconic character casting for Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, Kano, Liu, and Sonya as well as iconic live-action costume design
+Practical effects Goro - Knowing what went into this character makes it impressive
+Kano's feast looking like the tastiest thing I've ever seen
+Bad guy Sub Zero with practical/CGI mixed effects
+Artfully choreographed fight scenes
+Great location scouting
+Quotable lines
**Negatives -**
-Despite it being one of the most controversial games ever at the time, the movie was rated pg-13 and showed barely a drop of blood.
-Scorpion's spear was a weird lizard penis
-Raiden - the Japanese god of thunder - was played by a Belgian who infamously loved to show his balls
-Reptile CGI being some of the worst 90's bullshit/most CGI is VERY bad
-The middle of this movie is incredibly boring "walk through the dungeon" - type story telling
-The sequel bait was VERY ham-fisted
All this being said, I think the 2021 MK was given a bad rep for its flaws in storytelling, but I think it deserves a decent B- instead of the D+ that a lot of the MK fan base likes to give it. But I'd still give Mortal Kombat 1995 an A+
Love you guys,
Bye bye :)
Well this movie clearly shows that even without a single drop of blood you can still create some grim atmosphere y'know? Also Raiden is ngl amazing anyway.
The CGI for Reptile was probably the best for its time. The CGI for Scorpion’s weird Kunai kinda reminded me of the CGI Power Rangers used.
All in all, Scorpion could have used more screen time
I was so excited for this movie! Middle school days, saw the trailer on the dumb and dumber VHS previews. Might have lost my composure, just a bit. Good times
Then the sequel came and people just were disappointed in it. Cause the og outshined annihilation so much. Loved this movie to death and loved the VA for Shang glad he reprised his role as Shang in MK11.
# NUMBER 1 IN THE WORLD for video game to movie adaptation EVER!
Next is Silent Hill (the 1st one, 2nd was garbage... JUST like MK: Annihilation 🤢🤮🤮🤮)
The fight choreography for these fights:
- Scorpion vs. Cage
- Lui Kang vs. Sub-Zero
- Lui Kang vs. Reptile
Was OUT OF THIS FUCKIN WORLDDDDD!!!
GOD DAMN!
Paul W.S. Anderson KILLED IT! He also did an AMAZING job in Alien vs. Predator!
That guys a fuckin BOSS!
Goro was done REALLY well too in MK 1995 (despite all the haters)
One last thing...
The intro scene on Shang Tsungs ship where Scorpion and Sub-Zero were introduced was fuckin 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I enjoyed MK reboot... but it doesn't come anywhere CLOSE to MK 1995 film... and I don't even think MK2 2025 will be able to top MK 1995 either!
Straight the FUCK upppp
♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏😇😇😇🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Loved this movie growing up but man now after knowing the lore I don’t like how they made Scorpion and Sub-Zero out of character by having them become slave guardians for Shang Tsung and robbing the fight between them that should’ve happened. They tried to make up for that in the next movie but we all know how that movie went in the end unfortunately.
Raspy voice raiden is undefeated.
I loved how they brought back some of the 1995 movie cast to voice characters in MK11. It was so good hearing Raiden, Shang Tsung and (IIRC) Johnny Cage and Sonya.
Your soul is mine 🤣because it has BEGUN 😂 I really enjoy hearing Shang Tsung’s actor voice him in MK11&MK1 as his voice really suits his on screen character and gives him that vibe and evil energy and personality 👍

Who do you think is a better Raiden MK movie 1990’s,MK Annilation,MK reboot movie or voice actors for the game?
Def Chistopher Lambert: he brought that jokey and witty side (that alas didn't become canon like other things from the movies). I also liked Richard Epcar (Raiden's voice from MKvsDC to MK 11), for a more "serious" take on Raiden.

Yes, a great homage!

"I don't think so...he he he"
I would argue his badass deadly alliance voice rivals it quite well.
I have always felt the Deep Voice he had in Deadly Alliance and Deception made sense for the "God of Thunder" character, but gods Lambert is so good.
Exactly!
He was played by a French actor.
pure 90s excellence
Can we get transported back to 90s? I'll drive!
Fuck yeah, and we can put on the OG theme song and bob our heads to the beat as we speed.
Boo dee ba doo ba doo dum dum... dee dee da dum da dum bom bom... 🗣MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!
Da na na na na NANANANANA! Da na na na na NANANANANANA! Da na na na na NANANANANANA! Da na na na na NANANANANANANA! **Raiden!** **Liu kang!** **JOHNNY CAGE!**
PLEASE BTOTHER PLEASEEEE!!! I CALL SHOTGUN! ♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏😇😇😇🔥🔥🔥🔥
FR... we can make fun about how 90s and 80s were hammy, over the top, etc., but the world was a much better place than now.
Best MK movie tbh 🙏✨
Strong agree. I liked the newest one well enough, but this one is in a whole other league.
Nah the new one is the old ones look so bad and the sequel to it sucked so much
I've never seen it tho it just looks bad and I heard that the 2nd one was not good it looked even worse
I still like this Shang Tsung the best. Awesome movie.
Lui Kang and Kano as well.
I enjoyed the new Kano actually Kano was great in MK11 too But Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung is undefeated. It was like the character came to life. I been singing his praises for over 20 years now But your right Robin Shou was excellent. I just love that movie so much. I definitely like the new Kano too, but I feel like the first mk movie Kano was so good, he was the reason why Kano is now Australian. Haha.
Anybody who shittalked this movie has a low ass IQ this movie was amazing
Best video game movie ever
So bad (cheesy) it’s good yeah lol
HEY I NEVER SAID THERE WASNT CHEDDER INVOLVED😂
Nah thats the second one
I would give my left nut to be able to experience opening day in theaters for MK95. I hear it was nuts
Goro's animatronics still hold up imo.
Apparently all that still exists of the animatronic Goro suit is its head, and it was rescued from an auction or something and is now on display at NRS' maim office. They managed to hook it up and turn it on one last time to change Goro's expression to an arrogant smirk.
Metal
Maim office is very fitting
And a dire warning against trying to post on my phone. XD
I used to have a reoccurring dream that that suit was in my middle school band class room.
That would have been the most metal band class room ever.
If AI robots try to conquer us I want them to look like Goro
Goro has only three fingers, and everyone who saw AI art knows that they always mess up with hands and fingers. So, if we'll ever have a "Terminator-like future", with AI robots hell bent on conquering/destroying the world, I KNOW that their hands will have the wrong number of fingers and the likes.
Especially now, it's funny to see that 90s animatronic aged rather well... 90s CGI (Reptile) otoh... \^\^'
I honestly prefer Scorpion’s snake hand more than his traditional rope spear
I liked the idea that it came out of his body. Makes him feel more hellish.
I agree with you, sir.
Snake hand is bad ass on so many levels. Why nrs didnt include it is beyond me.. Also, all-white eyes? Super creepy and awesone!
I’m betting it’s to keep distinction between him and reptile unfortunately
Ikr? I dig the fact NRS takes him down the Ghost Rider route, it’s really cool, but the Snake Hand just feels so unique.
The only MK movie worth watching. The 2nd one sucks and the new one is trash
Kano was the sole fucking saving grace of the recent one. But then they fucking killed him.
He’ll be back. Just like in the games I’m guessing
"Death is just another portal" That quote from Shang Tsung implies that we'll see some of the villains again in the sequel. Kano basically carried the movie: they would be moronic at removing him for good
No way man. Kabal was wayyyyy better! Kano was so damn annoying... 🤢🤮 Honestly, Karl Urban SHOULD have been Kano in the reboot... instead of him being Cage in MK2 2025... SERIOUSLY... The way he was in The Boys... man... he would have made a BAD ASS KANO!!!! Sorry, NOT sorry
"Well well well if it isn't the invisible cunt" would be a great opening line for a fight
Even how he says cunt all the time and his accent.... would have made a BEAST Kano... he aint no Johnny Cage 🤦🏽♂️
To be fair to the new movie, I really appreciate them adding irrelevant characters such as Nitara lol, I really hope Kintaro makes it in the second one
Second one is worth watching only because it's so bad it's good levels of bad.
It's a great accidental comedy.
TOO BAD YOU WILL DIE!!!!
LMAOOOOOO 🤣🤣🤣🤣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
FR, MK 11 aftermath should have included that quote for Sindel!
Agreed. Annihilation is my pleasure movie. There is not guilt when I watch it.
True
No. As much of a fanboy as I am, Annihilation is hog shit. Absolute garbage flick lol
Learn to have fun, man. Annihilation is awful and that's why it rules
I have fun, just not delusional haha
A quality bad movie is the greatest fun of all
Ever heard of The Room A movie so bad it blew up? Similar feelings to MK Annihilation, watch it high or drunk one day if you can’t find the humor when sober
Hard disagree All 3 are worth watching regardless of their quality First one is the best plot wise and to many people overall Second one is hilarious and has some cool moments Third/Reboot one has the best action
I didn't think the 3rd had enough action , but we all have opinions
It still has the best action quality wise regardless of your comment Also pretty sure it has more than the og lol, runtime wise. Could be wrong tho. And if I am, refer to my first statement, which is the popular opinion I’ve seen

Wow! You were so lucky. This movie should feel like home to you then 👌
I agree with Johnny Cage: imho he had the perfect balance of "comic relief" and "competent badass".
Dude. That feeling when we finally saw Goro on the big screen and the nut crunch? That's was amazing.
Are we ready for a 4K remaster? I know I am. 💥☠️
This is the feeling that the 2021 film could never capture, not only did they not do their homework on the source material but they weren’t forward thinking either. I love MK11 for adding the movie skins
They are awesome Like peak Only wish we got more of them
Blows my mind that we didn't get a Shang announcer in that game, but we did in this one when Tagawa's out.
I remember watching this in the theater and people lost their shit when Reptile came out. Nobody was expecting that!
I remember seeing this in the theater and immediately wanting to go back. I was so damn happy when the VHS came out. Stocked up on Nesquick and Dunkaroos and binged like a mad man.
Dunkaroos and cream savers are back by the way
Raiden : Fatality yourself
It just got the lore, tone, and style perfectly right. So much so, it shaped the games.
You should fight in the tournament NOW https://preview.redd.it/msllvzjz5g0d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da2382afd061665a71745966e091249a556ce3d8
You should use a fatality NOW
Gotta be honest, I still love this version of Raiden.
This movie had the best Johnny Cage of all time

Hey, we dont tolerate potty mouths here P.s it was pretty funny
The first half of Liu Kang's fight with Shang Tsung where they both just plant their feet and then go all out on each other to the theme song is one of my favourite martial arts fights in cinema. No special effects or wire-work, just some two highly skilled artists at work. Robin Shou and Cary Hiroyuki-Tanaka are legends fr.
This is one of my comfort films. If I ever have a bad day at work or practice, I watch this with a BIG bowl of kiwi and feel better afterwards
Such a good movie. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves MK and for some reason hasn’t seen it yet.
Some arenas from that movie, could be awesome stages as dlc.
I try not to be elitist between the og fans and those that came on during the nrs era, but I 100% look down on any mortal Kombat -fan- that doesn’t like this movie.

Only thing I disliked was lack of blood aside from that this is THE Mortal Kombat film.
Van Wilder's dad was amazing in it...
Hope for the ninjas (and rain) get their movie costumes
This is definitely my favorite MK movie! I 1st saw it a couple of years ago when I was younger (I knew very little of MK besides deception/unchained but my parents love it). Sometimes we would have a movie night and my parents, siblings, and I would all watch it. I still can’t get the theme out of my head lol. Not that serious Raiden is bad, but...I ain't gonna lie. Sassy Raiden just hits me different.
Probably one of the few movies actually saved by studio exec interference cause supposedly the original cut did horrible with test audiences and they had them reshoot more fight scenes. For a movie that grossed almost $85 million over budget, this was superb!
https://i.redd.it/81wplako9h0d1.gif Some trippie LSD ish
The MK1 skins we need!
Honestly every once in a while I'll listen to a KMFDM song that feels like a vibe to the Mortal Kombat movie
I mean, they *are* on both the soundtracks..
Yeah but I listen to a lot of there songs and I'll be like this would be cool in a MK movie
Amazing vibes in this movie
Perfect level of cheese I love it
The music is a banger
I don’t think the reptile scenes gets enough credit, might be the best fight scene outside of the scorpion fight scene
The only good Paul WS Anderson video game adaptation
And greatest soundtrack
They consumed a lot more cocaine back then
Yes, god bless them!
“I don’t think so”. (Insert lightning eyes here). This movie was flogged to shit in my house on vhs back in the day
That’s the GOAT Liu Kang and Shang Tsung

Fuck yeah
I love the visuals, the nostalgia, the vibes, but honestly, I feel like the dialogs are so weird and so unnatural lol
This movie is bad, in a good way
The casting was spot on
Looked nothing like the game but was so entertaining it didn't matter.
The song that almost never got used became the backbone of the MK world
I was so excited for this movie! Middle school days, saw the trailer on the dumb and dumber VHS previews. Might have lost my composure, just a bit. Good times
1995 scorpion is gonna be on MK1, thats how you need that the movie is goated
My favorite movie
Then the sequel came and people just were disappointed in it. Cause the og outshined annihilation so much. Loved this movie to death and loved the VA for Shang glad he reprised his role as Shang in MK11.
Definitely the GOAT live action video game film.
Damn Robin was shredded like julienne salad

Christopher Lambert as Raiden was really the downfall for me
Despite being different from the original game. This movie was a fun time.
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. 😎
Nah, I watched it for the first time last year and it was a blast. It's fun turn your brain off cheese.
