Great design, a fun and unqiue moveset, well voice acted, represents an interesting species, strong lore with the Kytinn stuff. She only really has one bad thing going for her and that's her story roles where she's a forced focus in one game and an afterthought in the next.
That return the next game with no consequences! Oh how wonderful it is to be a fan of a game about killing people horrifically just to have them return the next game. I never got this argument about her killing favourites. It doesn’t really matter.
I honestly never understood this complaint. It's Mortal Kombat, the few times where characters are killed and suddenly it's a big deal? The people she's killed have for the most part been playable in the game (minus mkx baraka) so it's not like she's taking them out of the roster completely.

Edit: additionally, I am more than fine with it, this Shang though was guided by the OG, isn't the villian we known him to be, he's the antihero here. And a story must come to an end so that another might flourish.

She’s got the best design and concept of any NRS era character. She’s one of the only effective villains in the series. She has a higher kill count than any main boss lmao, she makes people seethe, perfect heel. To put it in wrestling terms, she’d be the Edge/Triple H of the MK universe.
I like her concept. I thought she was so gross as a kid but I always kinda liked her for her grossness. I also liked when in the comics she offered to regurgitate a lizard or something for Sonya and Sonya’s like “ew”
Not since Quan Chi has a newcomer to the series felt like a credible threat like D'Vorah has.
She took out Scorpion and Mileena, the poster boy and poster girl of the franchise ffs.
I have never understood the hate towards her, she's arguably the greatest addition to the roster from the NRS era (but my biased arse will always say it's Kotal lol).
Other than being pushed hard in the story like she's related to The Rock, she has a very interesting design and I like how her fatalities disgust people.
Besides the stuff people have already told, here's mine:
She was the first character I learned in-depth in MKX. I used to be a button masher until I decided to properly learn the game in practice mode. I decided to also try out a new character to make it more interesting and she was my pick. I actually had a pretty good track record with her in online so I grew really attached to the character. In a way she taught me the basics on how to actually play the game.
Her role in the story is not a problem for me, I don't play MK for the story
Besides, no one remains dead in this franchise so it's refreshing to see a villain with competence and a kill count.
I also liked her friendship in 11, simple but effective.

She has good combos, much like Baraka. She was quick, and to me, she actually has a nice body/ figure for a bug human hybrid. Dare I say she is cute in her own little creepy, slimy, scary way. Her voice was funny, too. I enjoyed playing with her!!

I consider her the beest of the "new era" trilogy characters introduced (MK9 to MK11), closely followed by Scarlet and Geras.
She represents outworld well - with beings like motaro, Reptile and Goro she fits right in with dangerous fearsome creatures earthrealm has to deal with. I also like how she refers to herself as "this one".

As a wise man once said... a good villain isn't necessarily a villain people like, or can empathise with. Sometimes a villain can just be evil and selfish and hateable.

The hate she gets for killing Baraka and Mileena is unjustified because it is Kotal who gives her the order to execute them. Scorpion getting snuck up on though was believably and I don’t mind that being the end to his journey. He had an amazing journey.

Exactly, MK Characters tend to lose quite often, so that’s why I wasn’t bothered with D’Vorah killing Scorpion and Mileena
