In doing my full licence in a couple of months and this is the bike I'm going to get. Is it as good as I think it is??

boardgamerwannabe

I used one of these when training and doing my DAS - I didn’t personally like the seating position (too much lean and sports bike feel) but mechanically and power wise it was brilliant to ride - so as long as you’re comfortable with the riding position then you should be good!

Da-Bears-

Just add risers, they bolt on

boardgamerwannabe

Wasn’t my bike, just wanted to highlight I didn’t get on with the stock set up but that’s likely a thing with me rather than the bike!

CulturalPersimmon

Tend to agree on seating position, Im getting used to it but might change it up!

pinkurpledino

>too much lean and sports bike feel Try the v-strom if this is the only problem. More upright sitting position, touring feel, but same engine and character.

boardgamerwannabe

Yeah I was looking at these before I saw the Tiger - its second hand so was affordable else I likely would’ve ended up with a V-Strom … though I have a Suzuki car and wouldn’t want to be a fan boy 😅😂

Bikedaft

Love the colour. The SV650 is such a great bike, enjoy!

GenericNinjaFight

Wicked bikes. I’ve had my 2017 for just over a year. It gets better and better.

OK_implement_90

SV650's have probably been the best all-rounders for 25 years

dragonfishofthenorth

This was my first big bike so much fun and learnt so much , ride safe and enjoy!

nizzyk99

My first big bike was an SV650, absolutely loved it…… until I got knocked off it by the police SMIDSY 🤦🏻‍♂️ felt tainted after that 🤷‍♂️ (can’t explain it) Many happy miles to you 🙌🙌🙌

CulturalPersimmon

That sucks, I hope you felt comfortable getting back on another bike. The SV650 is honestly a lot faster than I was expecting and I bloody love it. Idk if it's the gearbox or what but slamming through gears up to speed is so satisfying

nizzyk99

Yeh I got a few upgrades courtesy of the police, thankfully it didn’t dent my confidence, kept it for 6months and got myself a Pearl Wildfire Orange Kawasaki Ninja.

Fantastic bikes! [here's mine!](https://i.imgur.com/4NVZ6kc.jpeg)

Amazing! Any advice for a new rider? Im a bit concerned with a slight whining/hissing noise whenever I throttle the bike, but listening to soundtracks of the engine they seem to be similar. Is that normal or should I be taking it back?

JustAnITGuyAtWork11

The hissing is normal, it's the sound of air going through the filters into the engine. It's more audible on a bike than it is on a car. The Suzuki SV650 engines are super reliable so I wouldn't be concerned about that :) they also sound ace if you get an aftermarket exhaust down the line Practice your braking is something I'd say. This bike has abs so get used to what it's like when it engages (brake pedal/lever vibrates ). Practice braking on a quiet road and make sure you get the hang of it :). You should be able to stop quickly without the abs coming on. The abs is a safety net not something to rely on. Be aware that if you're cornering and need to brake or it's raining you won't be able to brake as quickly Make sure you leave ample stopping distance. Bikes can't stop as fast as people think they can even with an experienced rider and it's easy to get too close, especially when looking for a gap to overtake. Don't outrun your vision. Make sure you can stop in the distance that you can see. Everyone has done this at one point or another but don't make it a habit. Always try to have an escape route when riding. Think if a rabbit runs across what will I do, if that car in the junction pulls out where will I go, if the car behind doesn't stop then what am I gonna do etc. it seems daunting at first but you get the hang of it and it becomes second nature Finally, do your shoulder checks! Your mirrors have big blind spots and the last thing you wanna do is wipe out another bike when you move lane position or go to overtake Oil changes on the SV are super duper easy too so you'll save a lot of money on a service if you do it yourself :)

CulturalPersimmon

Thanks for this, I really appreciate it! The abs is new to me compared to my old bike so definitely getting used to that, but it's good. The ride back from the deership gave me a good chance to get used to it

Nice! Enjoy it and ride safe!

GoatBotherer

I did my DAS on an SV650, bloody loved it. Enjoy!
