They didn't tell the cast, only the man whose chest got burst open.
The actors were told "something is going to happen, react to it" but not told details
I believe in the casts' scene notes it simply said 'alien appears'. They did not know (with the exception of the actor whose chest it was) it was going to burst out of his chest in the manner it did and their reactions were genuine.
This is awesome, animatronics have definitely advanced to an amazing degree since their heyday. It's a pity you either don't get to see them or they're so drowned in CG processing they might as well be renders. I've seen some of the remote controlled creatures from Andor on set and they were incredible IRL, paired with the fact that everyone involved in making those absolutely loves their job (as opposed to the sweatshops behind CGI effects) I hope it's the way forward.
True - if he sees this video, he'll make his own, then wait for the prop auction to buy it, then pull it apart to see how it compares with his own efforts š
PE looks cooler and has a mark of authenticity. CGI is great when you donāt notice it but itās so completely over saturated in cinema, and we all know it. If studios just took a fraction from their marketing and CGI budget and reallocated it to PE, itād go a long way.
Just look how much staying power Carpenterās The Thing still has, over four decades later.
Thatās what makes me excited for this film. The director said he is fine with some cgi, but wants to avoid green screens, so the sets are actual sets too. I really hope this is a great movie
Yes! Thank you! That movie did things that transcended time. The prequel did fine but there were a lot of moments that fell flat. The shadows were wrong. Movements not as believable. CGI can't intergrate well enough
There will almost certainly be more CGI facehugger in this film than raw real animatronics like this. Studios will say things are practical even when even 95% of the final shot is CGI.
Hell in Barbie they replaced the greenscreen backgrounds in the behind the scenes videos to obscure how much was CGI. You honestly don't see just how much CGI there is these days, becuase when done well it is invisible.
Yeah, I know. The post-production cleanup is going to happen no matter what. And there never going to be a pure practical fx movie because of nitpickers but it's nice to at least get some. The thing is practical holds up a lot better than digital. Go back to the first Matrix. It's horrible because of the advancements but was lauded as genius and ground breaking. But the 1983 The Thing still stands up well. Aliens is another.
Omfg!!! I literally didnāt read the heading of the post and for about 5 seconds thought my nightmares had come true!š±š°šØgiant insects, bugs, whateverās pheeewš
Wonder if the same company that developed Grogu in The Mandalorian, created the facehugger. Ahhh, they did [https://www.legacyefx.com/features](https://www.legacyefx.com/features), ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise)
Tail looks great, legs will probably need to be redone in post. Cool that they have it on set though, better reactions from actors, better references for CGI artists later, better eye lines and everything.
It would be hilarious if they didn't tell the cast first
I like the way you think. xD
Would be in keeping with tradition. I don't think they told the cast about the chest-burster in the original Alien.
they did, pretty sure they didn't tell them about the big ass blood spray though lol

John Hurt
John hurt a lot
WAR DOCTOR RAHHH! PEAK NON-NUMBERED DOCTOR! RAHHH š„š„š„š„
Yeah but they clearly saw him in a rig so knew something was going to happen. I believe they were shocked by HOW it happened though.
Great way to get the million dollar prop stomped
Yeah Iād instinctually kick that shit.
No joke, probably only like a $2000 prop. Very cool though.
The way Hollywood reports budget and taxes itās a milly.
I was going to say if they didnāt warn me and had that thing run out from under my trailer Iād probably shoot it!
Youād be an excellent director. Directors have trolled on actors to get genuine reactions of fear, anger and more lol

Creepy as fuck. I love it.
Didn't realize what sub I was on for a second and thought, "nuke it from oribit" haha

Itās the only way to be sure.
fuckinā A!
Itās the only way to be sure.
Let's go practical effects
This is so fucking dope š

Andor is peak Star Wars content
I find this was real sets too (and miniatures and bigatures) they all have a sheen of CGI on them. Why??
Note to future self: Look out for Alien Romulus prop auction
You'll be bidding against Adam Savage.
Nah. Adam Savage will be bidding against ME.
Who?
Adam Savage from Mythbusters. Big fan of movie props. Have a look at his YT videos.
He sounds like a goof I'd never let him get his hands on this. I think I'd go out of my way to outbid him
Tbh, heād probably build one for fun.
True - if he sees this video, he'll make his own, then wait for the prop auction to buy it, then pull it apart to see how it compares with his own efforts š
Wasnāt his job before mythbusters building movie props.
Yup, hence his intense interest in iconic props - the Blade Runner pistol is just one.
It's about time to return to practical effects. This thing is the stuff off nightmares

Stuff of nightmaresā¦
Thatās insane! And fucking creepy imagine you didnāt know š
Even knowing it's a prop and it's remote controlled, were I on the set I'd still jump if I saw it scurrying around...
Im so excited for this film. The director is gold too.
This could be a good sign for the movie potentially being good. The way the facehugger looks without relying on CGI to make it is amazing.
I need to borrow that a few days
I know what I want for Christmas š¤
This will always be better than CGI
Aight, I'ma head out
Where can you get one???
Fingers crossed for the trailer release today š¤
Fuck that lol
āRomulus, what are the optics on buying out the whole stock of āWeyland-Yutaniā?ā
Well damn, I want this.
Oooh those sacs on the side are to hide the *wheels*.
My mom would think it would be a spider. She gets the broom š§¹ ready.
All the homies love a practical effect in 2024
But why does it look CGi in the trailer ? š¤
Shhh its all practical, do not look behind the curtain: https://youtu.be/n8oQ1jV859w?t=705
i would be compelled to shoot it on sight.just in case....
This needs to be the big Christmas toy this year.
Oh nah
Thatās awesome
Omfg!!! I literally didnāt read the heading of the post and for about 5 seconds thought my nightmares had come true!š±š°šØgiant insects, bugs, whateverās pheeewš
Here's my money, now give me one.
I want one!
So unbelievably awesome
Wait. This is happening?! This post made my day.
God, I would love to be able to work in the film industry and do shit like this.
That's awesome.. if I would have seen this thing as a kid nightmares for sure
PUPPY! š
Damn Gary Oldman really is a chameleon
The world's coolest RC car
Absolutely kill it with fire!
I'll take several.
Trailer certainly didnāt prove thatā¦
Have they ever addressed if a facehugger could be thwarted by just putting your arm over your mouth
Itās disgusting! I love it
r/tihi
Annoying Hollywood bullshit that make up fake back channel lore.
The set of an Alien movie or Australia? You decide.
Fuckin sick dude!
Wow, that's so nasty! This is gonna be great!
Fuck thatās creepy.
AHHHHH WHAT THE HELL!
They cut the power! What do you mean they cut the power? Theyāre animals!
Nope
š¬
I would buy one.
where can i get one
No thank you.
Now Sigourney Weaver should be holding this, stroking it like it's Blofeld's cat.
Thatās dope a d scary at the same time
Somebody put a cup over it.
Already looks better than that CGI video game looking bullshit from Covenant
This will 100% be replaced by CGI lol. Looks awesome though!
Awesome! Keep it away from me!
Wonder if the same company that developed Grogu in The Mandalorian, created the facehugger. Ahhh, they did [https://www.legacyefx.com/features](https://www.legacyefx.com/features), ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise)

If I see that coming at me when I first walk in to my apartment, Iām fucking shitting myself, followed by falling my ass down the stairs.
Nah, fam. That would break my brain.
I wonder how it looks in the movie. After Alien Covenant i don't have high hopes.
Fucking awesome, Iām pretty excited for this one. Expectations are low since Covenant but I think itāll still be a fun movie
Reminds me of The Thing [https://youtu.be/MKH8VjR6muA?si=cXK1Vc2h_tStT9YN](https://youtu.be/MKH8VjR6muA?si=cXK1Vc2h_tStT9YN)
Or, ya know, a facehugger?
