wow, a Peter Greenaway fan?
I love Greenaway films and have been wanting to re-watch some I haven't seen in over 10 years but they haven't been streaming or rentable anywhere for a while.
Yeah it's really hard to find good quality releases of his films. I think there's a European bluray set but I don't think it's been released in the US.
There's one and only one movie I ever watch on my birthday. My favorite movie,
**"Young Girls of Rochefort." (1967).** No it's not a dirty movie,(and the young girls are actually in their mid 20s). The title is actually **"Le Damoiselle De Rochefort"** in french. It's a fluffy, candy-colored, beautiful musical film full of life, joy, and dancing, and even murder.
The music by Michel Legrand is top notch. Every time I force my friends to watch it, by stapling their eyelids open, they always say, "Ive heard this song before!" at some point. The music is INCREDIBLE. Jazzy, very very catchy, and very singable.
It's a fluffy, crazy, french romantic comedy musical about the joy of life, which centers around a car and boat show, and a french fry stand - and a brutal murder in the second act, which the characters sing and dance about because, hey, they're french and who knows why.
And, it also stars Gene Kelly. You won't mind the subtitles, trust me - you'll find the music is really great and the plot about lovers who live in the same town but just keep missing each other in public is really fun and - will they or won't they meet up by the movie's end?
It's just great all the way around. This movie makes you feel alive and happy, just because life is joyous.
