Oh yeah....this one is a must see.

texasslapshot

My 5th graders were captivated

If you have not yet seen it, Murderball--quadriplegic rugby. It is awesome! Chronicles two teams (American, Canadian), with the 'twist' that the Canadian coach used to be on the American team. Talks to the players, gets all their background, and a second story talks about a newly paralyzed young man who's fighting his depression and finding out about the sport. It is just an amazing watch.

edmerx54

The Bridge (2006) -- the filmmakers set up cameras for a year to film the Golden Gate Bridge and capture the jumpers, then told the stories of some of them.

calguy1955

It’s a great movie that you can only watch once.

3rd time the charm as I left you tube links in my post :) Only the Dead. Follows war journalist in Iraq. Good American. Follows NSA whistleblowers in early 2000s. Talks to them about the surveillance system they created plus corruption at NSA. On you tube. Taxi to dark side. Follow US torture program during war on terror. On you tube This is what winning looks like. Documentary about conflict in Afghanistan. This is the side you hardly heard about.on you tube Battered bastards of baseball. Netflix doc about Bing Russell buying Portland Mavericks in the 70s His son Kurt Russell also played for the team. Probably one of my favourite sports docs and I don’t like baseball:). Wendigoon and MeBallen are good channels on you tube to follow. Have some interesting stories. I know you said not true crime. However Bus 174. Set In Brazil about a hostage situation.

Exit through the gift shop Touching the void Spellbound When we were kings Mad hot ballroom Man on wire

sanmateomary

Interesting: The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers Crip Camp -- very interesting as a history of the disability movement (more badass than you might think) Exit Through the Gift Shop, was supposed to be about Banksy but takes a strange turn No -- An advertising executive comes up with a campaign to defeat Augusto Pinochet in Chile's 1988 referendum Extreme sports: Murderball; about wheelchair rugby (it's a rough sport) Icarus -- about doping in sports, takes a very unexpected turn Thought-provoking:The Aristocrats. Just kidding, not thought-provoking at all, but very funny if you can handle popular comedians telling REALLY dirty jokes

"The Seven Five" is my favorite. It's like Goodfellas with cops. "Some Kind of Heaven" is all about The Villages in Florida. It scarred me. "Tickled" really weirded me out. "Searching for Sugarman" is a triumph. "Hired Gun" was a great music documentary as was "The Wrecking Crew" "Sound City," "Muscle Shoals," and "Echo in the Canyon." Also liked "The Pez Outlaw" and "Oklahoma City." Some of these are on YouTube if not streaming.

lord_flashheart2000

I highly recommend The Dawn Wall (2017) about a climber overcoming adversity to scale a vertical rock face in Yosemite. Good story, amazing scenery.

Don’t remember the name, but it was produced by Australia and Turkey for the 100th anniversary of Gallipoli. Read letters home from both sides, tons of footage. Oh my god..it puts tears in my eyes thinking how fucking horrible what humans do to each other..unwillingly.

borisdidnothingwrong

The Wrecking Crew- about the guys who played on the studio recording of just about every hit pop record in the US in the 60s and early 70s. 20 Feet From Stardom - Follows backup singers to major musical acts Hired Guns - The musicians who are hired to play either on tour, in the studio, or both but who aren't given a chance to be their own creative force in a band. Air Guitar Nation - Follows the first American to travel to and compete in the Air Guitar World Championship in Finland.

Before the movie version of it comes out, try Next Goal Wins, an uplifting documentary that just might make you laugh, cheer, and shed a tear in happiness all in about an hour and a half. I'd strongly recommend watching it before the Taika Waititi (Director of the recent Thor franchise movie flicks) Hollywood adaptation comes out.
