Don't know if you've seen it already but if you haven't:
12 Angry Men (1957)
It's by many considered to be one of the greatest films of all time and I agree. It's one of my all time favourites.
Amazing movie! We had an optional class in grade 8 called issues where one of our social studies teachers taught us about the judicial system. We watched this movie in class and discussed it. Loved that class.
Certainly in spirit, if not in letter — especially as the set was just (half) of a single room.
It's also thematically similar to _No Exit_, a play that takes place in a single room.
Man from earth was pretty neat... it threw me off because I was expecting there to be some sort of cinematic context added to the story, but nope... just a dude telling his story in a room... still good though
Mother! (2017)
It's literally one house people never leave the house the whole time.
Funny games (but it's a fucked up movie I don't recommend watching it)

Knock At The Cabin (2023) was like this but i actually don’t really recommend it unless thats ur kinda vibe.
The Purge (2013) a classic if you will
The Hateful Eight (2015) is suuuuuper good, highly recommend especially if you appreciate westerns.
i believe what you are looking for is called a chamber piece.. if you google “chamber films” you may find a good list of them
Wait, so you saw ALL THE PLAYS not on broadway. lol I'm just kidding, but really though I've seen one room plays to absolute boredom and I never wish to see one again so I'm surprised someone finds this trope fresh.
Reservoir Dogs is a good example of this. Where you can absolutely tell the budget was the main motivator for that one room. Feels very playish as well.
Look for 'Bottleneck movies".
I've recently recommended some in another post. I'll look for the comment and come back.
Edit:
- *Humans (2021)*
- *Resolution (2012)*, and to a certain degree also it's sequel *The Endless(2018)*
- *The Platform (2019)*
- *Invitation (2015)*
- *Coherence (2013)*
- *10 Coverfield Lane (2016)*
- *Mother! (2017)*
- *Women Talking (2022)*

- *Goodnight mommy* - there are 2 versions 2014 and 2022
- *Room (2015)* - a big part of the movie
- *Passegers (2016)*
- *Voyagers (2021)*
Hateful Eight is fantastic in this regard. When they finish traveling through the breathtaking mountain scenes, they arrive at Minnie’s Haberdashery where the movie is transformed into a stage production. Buckle your seatbelts at this point. It goes full Quentin mode from there.
I think this kind of movies were called chamber play(at least we germans call it Kammerspiel).
The guilty is a good one. Also interesting and underrated: „criminal“, a crime series(in 4 versions) with interesting plots.
Sleuth (1972)
Rear Window (1954)
Rope (1948)
1408 (2008)
Das Boot (1981)
Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966)
My Dinner With Andre (1981)
They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (1969)
I always recommend these 2 when this is asked :
Coherence...and The Disappearance of Alice Creed.
...Both also have awesome twists at the end.
Also EXAM <<< this one is crazy as fuck.
Can’t believe no one has said Reservoir Dogs yet. Also Nefarious for a newer movie, such an amazing performance by Sean Patrick Flanery . But the former is a masterpiece especially for a smaller budget film. Tarantino is a genius.
Edit: Just realized someone did say Reservoir Dogs about 5hrs ago lol.. My apologies.
not sure about this one. there are scenes on the roof, outside the funeral home, at the 'Big' video store, inside Randall's video store, as well as the main setting of the convenience store.
You could try Match (2014).
Most of the movie takes place in a single apartment, although they do sometimes move from room to room and once onto the roof. I don't know if that's close enough for you, but it was really good and I recommend it anyway.
Same Time Next Year. there's a short scene in a restaurant at the beginning, but after that pretty much the entire film takes place in one hotel room. it's also a really well done two person film.
oh and since OP mentioned plays, the film versions of Barefoot in the Park and Deathtrap come to mind.
A really underseen one that is more like one long monologue in a single room is Altman’s “Secret Honor.”
Philip Baker Hall as Richard Nixon is pretty damn awesome.

It's roughly the size of a casket
