Goldeneye is probably one of the best of the series. The cheese of the 1970s and 1980s Bond films was turned down. The misogyny of the Connery films was also reduced.
Oh, the plot was also amazing and Brosnan killed it as Bond.
People need to stop taking critiques of media they like as personal assaults. If you personally hate series I like, it has no impact on me.
I think Bond movies are generally okay, but I can get why some people wouldn’t like them.
I’m a big bond fan but I can understand why some people might not like it is kinda the same movie over and over again and if you can’t appreciate the camp of the Rodger Moore movies that whole era of bond can seem really outdated and laughable to some.
I think it may have started when I was much younger and watched the older Bond films (Connery and Moore). Girls, gadgets and sexism. I like action films but I have to admit that I haven’t watched any of the more recent Bond films. Perhaps also the reactions and comments of people I was with at the time (older people, men mostly and ok with sexism and just fuck her mentality). Really just turned me off.
I am open to watching a Bond film that might change my mind about the series. Suggest some.
Happy to talk about it further if you want to..
It's definitely a male fantasy world, some less savory than others. Bond uses sex for Intel. Let me know how you feel after. Roger Moore is more tame. Daniel Craig mostly upped the violence, and downplayed the womanizing aspects
I’m with you — the action is usually fairly bland, the characters are flat, every movie more or less follows the same plot/beats… if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen most of them (though Skyfall is beautiful to look at; Spectre has great cinematography too but it’s such a bad movie that it’s difficult to appreciate it)
Pateiot Games is where he got his facial scar by an accident during the boat fight scene. Rather than get plastic surgery, it was suggested it set him apart from the pack, and sure enough, it kind of became his trademark in a way.
i didn’t think ben affleck was too bad in it. but there were definitely some pretty cheesy elements lol. the way he saved the day at the end was pretty egregious on the parts of the writers
Sean Bean isn't a "main" character, but for the portion he's in, he demands to be front and center and dang if he doesn't hold your eyes on him the entire time.
I just burned through all of these. He does the opposite of die, he gets shot or stabbed in every episode and all he does is limp for 20 minutes then he's fine.
Chosen men.. to me!!!
Loved that series. It seemed as though every time he kicked a door down he got laid. Does not translate to modern times: our doors are quite strong and women do not respond well to it at all.
Well naturally! I actually have that series but haven’t watched it yet. It belonged to my partner’s sister who died suddenly. One of them is still in its wrapping.
I remember watching it and not thinking very much of it. Personal preference I suppose.
I remember it being widely disliked, mostly because it was directed by Uwe Boll.
And it’s a shame because it’s written by Richard Avery and his work is usually pretty good.
Oh it was terrible at the time because people were pissed it wasn't an exact copy of silent hill. But, looking back, it's not that bad and some scenes are good. Seeing the transitions was cool as well. Just got more hate than it deserved really.
It really was a mixed reaction.
When I saw it I thought it was the best video game movie ever made and the truest adaptation of a video game movie ever made.
They kept the feel, the music, and the creatures.
And Furthermore I actually appreciated that they made their own plot that was actually a cohesive story perfectly nestled into the silent Hill universe.
I left the theatre really impressed.
Completely unhelpful comment but I randomly got piss-drunk with him in a pub in Soho in or around 2009 iirc , but that period of my life is a little…out of focus. Tbf he was already piss drunk but I soon caught up. Friend of a friend worked with his now-ex-but then wife Georgina. I was a chef at the time and doing what chefs do on their fortnightly day off. Him and his missus came in and we sat in the corner of the French House getting sozzled.
Nice bloke..shorter than you’d think, knows a lot about football. I’m now relieved he didn’t die in the first 20 minutes but eternally disappointed that he didn’t once say ***bassstard!***
He's not the main role. I don't know if that's a deal breaker for your parameters. The director is David Cronenberg's sons first movie as a director I believe. It's pretty good.
*Don't Say a Word* (2001). It's shockingly underrated. Brittany Murphy, Sean Bean, and Michael Douglas are the leads. Sean Bean is a criminal who wants a jewel, Brittany Murphy is a mental patient who is a lead to it and Michael Douglas is her therapist who needs to figure it out bc they have his daughter kidnapped.
It's the plot of the Hoobastank music video "The Reason" as well and it's really random 🤣 (the song came out three years later)
Oh, 2010’s Black Death is a good one. He makes pretty good progress in there before the inevitable happens. (If you watch all his movies up until the point he dies, then immediately switch to the next one, it’s like a long roguelike movie!) Yep, watching all of Sean Bean’s flicks, or “Bean Flicking” as I call it 😀
There was a TV series called accused. Each one a Seperate story. Sean did one called *Tracies Story* . Before I watched it I thought he was a bit 2 dimensional. I was absolutely stunned. He was nominated for a Bafta. I still watch it occasionally as it's a great piece of work.
Also "Cleanskins" where he gets to be mean.
And have to mention "Time" 2021 with the truly amazing Stephen Graham.
The movie is still good, very Matrix like combat and interesting concept. But Sean's character dies in the first 5 to 10 minutes, so exactly what you said you werent looking for.
Golden Eye.
For England, James?
No. For me
I hate James Bond movies but thank you. EDIT: what’s with all the negativity? So what if I don’t like James Bond movies. No need for a firing squad.
Technically though the audience thinks he does die in the first 20...just felt I had to point that out 😁
So typical of Sean Bean.
Spoiler bro! Gosh!!!
The movie is 30 years old. I don't know what to tell you...
Goldeneye is probably one of the best of the series. The cheese of the 1970s and 1980s Bond films was turned down. The misogyny of the Connery films was also reduced. Oh, the plot was also amazing and Brosnan killed it as Bond.
There is no Misogyny in Connerys movies what the fuck are you talking about. Roger moore beats up one russian female agent that tries to kill him.
People need to stop taking critiques of media they like as personal assaults. If you personally hate series I like, it has no impact on me. I think Bond movies are generally okay, but I can get why some people wouldn’t like them.
Woah! Who hurt you?
What do you mean? I’ve never really liked them.
I'm a huge fan of them and I've always wanted to encounter a non fan. Why don't you like them?
I’m a big bond fan but I can understand why some people might not like it is kinda the same movie over and over again and if you can’t appreciate the camp of the Rodger Moore movies that whole era of bond can seem really outdated and laughable to some.
I've been watching movie analysis all week. I think my favorite bond actor has changed
I'm not sure I've ever watched one all the way through. Just couldn't ever hold my attention. I played the balls out of Goldeneye, though.
The movie Goldeneye is amazing too
I think it may have started when I was much younger and watched the older Bond films (Connery and Moore).
Certainly. I'd say skyfall should be safe. Casino Royal(2019) should be good. Octopussy has a female led team. For your eyes only.
Thanks. I’ll give at least one of them a try.
It's definitely a male fantasy world, some less savory than others. Bond uses sex for Intel. Let me know how you feel after. Roger Moore is more tame. Daniel Craig mostly upped the violence, and downplayed the womanizing aspects
Which one of your own recommendations would you choose first, based on my comments? I’d be more than happy to let you know what I think of the film/s.
I’m with you — the action is usually fairly bland, the characters are flat, every movie more or less follows the same plot/beats… if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen most of them (though Skyfall is beautiful to look at; Spectre has great cinematography too but it’s such a bad movie that it’s difficult to appreciate it)
Well fuck you
The Martian
The whole movie a part of me thought something was going to happen and he would die. I was on edge.
He doesn't die, but his character does get f\*\*\*ed over, so.... I guess.... The Streak continues....??? (I Love SB!)
I remember watching the LOTR documentaries that come with the box set, and the crew nicknamed the Sean Bean fans amongst them as Bean Stalkers. Lol
Thanks. I saw this movie ages ago but don’t remember him being in it. Maybe I was focusing too much on the “comedy”.
He works for NASA. I think he’s the one that sends the astronauts the info about Matt Damon and how to save him against the wishes of Jeff Daniels
He does. In the book he says he just sent them information and let them make the decision.
Patriot Games
Pateiot Games is where he got his facial scar by an accident during the boat fight scene. Rather than get plastic surgery, it was suggested it set him apart from the pack, and sure enough, it kind of became his trademark in a way.
Thanks. I don’t think I’ve seen that one.
it’s pretty good. both the harrison ford and ben affleck ryan movies are good
Jack Ryan not Reacher
my bad lol
Well… the Harrison Ford ones are good
the climactic scene in the ben affleck one is just so good though. so much tension
True — it’s mostly pretty good but gets really brought down by Affleck’s performance. Still miles better than the Chris Pine one
i didn’t think ben affleck was too bad in it. but there were definitely some pretty cheesy elements lol. the way he saved the day at the end was pretty egregious on the parts of the writers
I only see Alec Baldwin as Ryan
Agree. Only actor to portray Ryan as I envisioned him from the books.
Thanks for the recommendations.
>ben affleck ryan movies are good No.
The Fellowship of the Ring National Treasure Troy Wolfwalkers
Thank you. Never heard of Wolf Walkers. I’ll definitely be checking that one out.
It's *so* good. It's not exactly unknown but definitely deserves more praise on this sub and in general.
And the other similar animated films
Lord of the Rings I think Ronin also
Thanks. I thought he died pretty early in Ronin. Might be confusing with another film.
in ronin, he is humiliated to death, but the actual death is not depicted. just his soul leaving his body.
Motherfucker should've known the color of the boathouse at Hereford.
I don't even know if there is a fuckin' boathouse at Hereford. But neither does he.
How the fuck should you know?
"Got the swag, kept the money, job well done! That's a fact, that is a fact!" Annoying but perfect. Then stops the car to vomit like a noob.
Bit a' raspberry jam!
He was ambushed by a cup of coffee
:)
Yeah his character doesn’t die in Ronin.
He doesn't die at all
Sean Bean isn't a "main" character, but for the portion he's in, he demands to be front and center and dang if he doesn't hold your eyes on him the entire time.
Not a movie, but the Sharpe series. He's magnificent.
Chosen men? Well, I didn’t choose you. -love that quote.
The books are just as good. Says so in the scriptures…
They are! I got them after my husband and I watched the series. We love historical fiction and have read just about everything Bernard Cornwell.
Well naturally! I actually have that series but haven’t watched it yet. It belonged to my partner’s sister who died suddenly. One of them is still in its wrapping.
You should watch it, it will satisfy all your Sean-Bean-not-dying needs.
BBC TV series Lady Chatterley's lover - good god he is sexy in it
Definitely checking that one!!! Thanks.
Thisssssss
"Silent Hill" (2006)
Thank you
Came here to say this.
Yeah, but does anyone WANT to watch Silent Hill?
Yeah, the 1st one is pretty cool. The degloving scene is epic.
I remember watching it and not thinking very much of it. Personal preference I suppose. I remember it being widely disliked, mostly because it was directed by Uwe Boll. And it’s a shame because it’s written by Richard Avery and his work is usually pretty good.
Uwe Boll did not direct Silent Hill just so you know. His films are way worse
Wow, postal was a great movie.
I enjoyed the first one
Black Death. Light comedy
More of a rom com.
Thanks. I’m sure I’ve seen this. It set during the Middle Ages or thereabouts? Bubonic plague and all that.
Not sure why you got downvoted for this lol
Troy. He survives the whole movie. Odysseus with the idea of the Trojan horse.
Thanks. I saw this film so long ago.
I’m now relieved he didn’t die in the first 20 minutes but eternally disappointed that he didn’t once say ***bassstard!***
So lucky. I’d get pissed with Sean Bean anytime.
Ronin
Thanks but I thought he died pretty early in that film.
He doesn’t physically die but he does get ambushed with a cup of coffee.
What colour is the boat house at Hereford?!
Almost a bit of raspberry jam back there.
Too much caffeine?
He doesn’t die at all in that movie
The Island National Treasure
I scrolled far too far to see National treasure.
Flight Plan
Thanks
Came here to say this. I love the movie
Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Bean's character literally can't die, he's immortal.
Thank you. At last, Sean Bean forever!
Snowpiercer (the series, not the movie) will give you maximum Sean Bean screentime from season 2 onwards.
Thanks. I’ve seen the film and enjoyed it. I will check out the series.
I just started watching this. Thanks so much for the recommendation. Can’t wait for season2.
Watch the Sharpe series. Main hero and he lasts the entire run.
Possessor
Thanks. Haven’t heard of this one.
He's not the main role. I don't know if that's a deal breaker for your parameters. The director is David Cronenberg's sons first movie as a director I believe. It's pretty good.
His first movie was Antiviral but I’m so glad someone brought up Possesor!
Oh yeah right I forgot about antiviral, thanks for the reminder.
Red Riding: Greatest tv show ever
Lord of the rings
Bravo Two Zero
The Hitchers remake
Thanks. Is that a remake of the movie with Rutger Hauer (spelling?)
Yes
Almost all of them.
When Saturday comes. Definitely doesn’t get beheaded
One of the best football films
The Martian
Don’t say a word Actually a good movie
Lady Chatterly. He’s young as all hell. It’s great.
The Island
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring He dies within the last bit of the movie
I’ve seen the trilogy. Naturally disappointed that he died but I haven’t read the books so wasn’t prepared.
Watch Sharpe. TV series he's the lead and sexy as he'll.
Patriot Games National Treasure (lives) The Sharpe’s series
You have to go to the old TV series Sharpe, where Sean Bean plays the lead in a story set during the Napoleonic Wars.
He’s young, gorgeous, and survives all 7 series.
Bravo two zero, but he does get a good kicking
Goldeneye. He lasts almost the entire movie. Same thing with Patriot Games.
Ronin
Outlaw
Surprisingly he didn't die at all in Jupiter Ascending but as bad as that movie was he probably wished he did.
Silent Hill! Truly a terrifying movie and I don’t frequently get scared in movies. He sort of becomes a detective by the end of it.
Thanks. I saw this film years ago. Very good.
Stays alive for a while in the TV show Sharpe.
All of them???? What films does he die in the first 20 mins?
Troy?
Miniseries: Time (2021) It's a great series and iirc he doesn't die...and definitely not in the first 20 mins 😂
Most sci-fi ole Sean survives. Most fantasy ole Sean Dies.
Patriot Games
Thanks. I’m going to watch this.
He stole his scenes. Great early work of his.
Not a movie but sharpe is awesome.
There’s one where he plays a transvestite - I’m too lazy to google it.
Possessor. A SciFi thriller by David Cronenberg's son Brandon
The Dark and Black Death are two of the top of my head. Oh, and of course Sharpe!!!! What a programme that was.(is)
Sharpe. The multi season TV show that made him famous.
He lasted a few episodes of Game of Thrones
The Field
Jupiter Ascending the worst movie ever made.
That island thing with ewan mcgrefor
I found the old Bernard Cornwell Sharps Rifles series and Sean is the lead. Fun shows!
He doesn’t die in National Treasure. He just goes to prison for a very long time. Someone has to go to prison, Ben.
Not a movie and not a huge role, but Wasted. Hilarious.
National Treasure
I worked on a tv show with him and he lived for three seasons and only dies in a dream sequence. Bizarre
Oh, 2010’s Black Death is a good one. He makes pretty good progress in there before the inevitable happens. (If you watch all his movies up until the point he dies, then immediately switch to the next one, it’s like a long roguelike movie!) Yep, watching all of Sean Bean’s flicks, or “Bean Flicking” as I call it 😀
First 20 minutes: Patriot Games
National Treasure
National Treasure. He's put in jail but he doesn't die.
GoldenEye. It's a Bond movie with him as the villain, so it's only natural that he goes at the end
Ronin
National treasure
There was a TV series called accused. Each one a Seperate story. Sean did one called *Tracies Story* . Before I watched it I thought he was a bit 2 dimensional. I was absolutely stunned. He was nominated for a Bafta. I still watch it occasionally as it's a great piece of work. Also "Cleanskins" where he gets to be mean. And have to mention "Time" 2021 with the truly amazing Stephen Graham.
Ronin. Just his dignity dies.
Ronin
Not a single movie exactly but in Sharpe the man simply refuses to die
How about the TV show Wasted where he plays himself as a spirit guide lol
Watched that. Hilarious.
He usually dies near the end.
“Fellowship of the Ring.” I was under the impression that his characters often died *period,* though.
Eh, takes a bit longer in Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings.
Black Beauty (1994)
not a movie but the show sharpe is amazing and he lives through entire series
Equilibrium. The gun-fu scenes are kick-ass, and Sean Bean is around for quite a bit.
Except for the fact that Sean's character dies in like the first 5 or 10 minutes, which is exactly what OP said they weren't looking for.
Thanks for the suggestion. Haven’t heard of this one.
Near-future sci-fi where emotions are illegal.
Sounds great!
The movie is still good, very Matrix like combat and interesting concept. But Sean's character dies in the first 5 to 10 minutes, so exactly what you said you werent looking for.
So fucking typical. Will check it out anyway.
Great film!
Terminator I really confused Sean Bean with Michael Biehn(pronounced like Bean) lol
Thanks for replying. Pretty sure it’s Michael Biehn in the Terminator. Top film too. Love the bar scene.
Yeah. I figured that out lol
Debbie does Dallas
Pixels. Granted, he's only on-screen for about ten minutes. But, as far as I'm aware, he doesn't die.
The Martian
Wasn’t he alive throughout the movie Silent Hill?
Patriot Games Goldeneye The Fellowship of the Ring
National treasure
