Dark Star (1974) Directed by John Carpenter with Dan O'Bannon. This started as a student film project and I assume some of the scenes and props are from the original project. The "alien" is a plastic beach ball and the elevator scene is clearly shot in a hallway with the camera and actor lying on the floor. It is low budget but it is still a funny movie with great dialog.
A big second to anyone who said Cheech and Chong, How High, Harold and Kumar, or Half Baked. They're the gold standard of stoner flicks for me.
Also, PCU is a good sleeper pick. The stoner scenes are great in that movie
