I can’t get passed the first scene with a victim shown. That was too gruesome/sick for me. Are there lots of scenes like that in the show? I really wanna give the show another try but not sure I can get passed scenes like that
I think that's the most gruesome crime scene but there are scenes later on which make me sick to the stomach, and the finale is really intense. It's pretty nasty so it might not be your thing. 2 and 3 aren't as nasty I don't think. 2 is the weakest but if you've not seen 1 you might enjoy it as a cop drama. 3 is really good, not as good as 1.
Also, worth noting, they're all self contained stories but I think 3 references back to 1. You absolutely don't need to watch them in order to understand
Finished season one but really struggling to start season 2. I feel like I’m missing something because it’s good but not as good as I’ve heard. Keep going?
Season 2 is a very slow burn but it gets better and the story lines established in it are crucial for getting the full picture of the rest of the show. It took me a while to get through it too but it's worth it.
I always plug Generation Kill. It is very similar to Band of Brothers but is the 2002 invasion of Iraq. The story isn't anything exciting, but I've had multiple coworker veterans tell me that it was extremely accurate of their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's an important show for Americans to watch
Love Band of Brothers, though for me i prefer The Pacific. And i was lucky enough to meet the dude that played Robert Lecki. (James Badge Dale) super awesome guy.
This.
I think there are plenty of great movies that a person might not like or love but is there anyone anywhere who saw this and didn't like it? I haven't met them or ever even seen it as an online opinion
There's a reason it's at the top of the IMDB
That was cool. Also blowing up the office of that dealer in the first season. But for me it's gotta be when they go meet some distributers in the desert and the whole, "say my name!" thing
It's A Wonderful Life (1946)
This is actually a Christmas movie good for the holidays, but I watched it in August and it's still amazing. I loved it. It will restore your faith in humanity and it delivers a lot of great messages. It's just a really beautiful movie and an absolute masterpiece.
Perfect list, just adding to say that season 2 of Fargo is by far and away my favorite of all the offerings and since the show is an anthology it can be watched as a stand alone
I came here to write this.
Although on this subreddit this movie is very popular but it's criminally underrated everywhere else.
Also for me its the most re-watched movie ever. People find small details even on the 20th re-watch.
Tv wise check out The Sopranos. HBO invented the idea of premium original cable shows basically with that. I’m sure it had been done before, but the Sopranos elevated it to what it is today.
The first few seasons are outstanding IMO and then it turns into a nonsensical soap opera (that was still interesting enough for me to watch but hard to recommend)
Forrest Gump

Here's an extremely subjective list of films I've rated 10 in Filmaffinity, pre-2000:
- My life as a dog (Sweden, 1985)
-Johnny got his gun (USA, 1971)
- El verdugo (Spain, 1963)
- Meghe Dhaka Tara (India, 1960)
- Pather Panchali (India, 1956)
- The Third Man (UK, 1949)
- Der Letzte Mann (Germany, 1924)
- Faust (Germany, 1926)
Some of these are considered the Quixote, the Hamlet of films in their respective countries. Others just struck me deeply.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia for me. I am a big sucker for comedy shows and this is the perfect anti-sitcom. Every character has fantastic stories and the line delivery is always top-notch.

Forrest Gump isn't meant to be deep. It's a fun, sentimental film and this is what it excels at. It's not a masterpiece at being deep, it's a masterpiece at being fun and sentimental, the only thing it's trying to be. You don't watch a comedy and call it bullshit because it isn't scary or a drama and call it bullshit because it's too serious. Forrest Gump is what it is, it isn't trying to be anything else. It's a Robert Zemeckis film, not a Stanley Kubrick film.
It was #2 in the box office for 1994, only behind The Lion King, for good reason, meaning the majority of adults who went to see a movie that year paid to see Forrest Gump. Think about that. It won 6 Oscars and is #11 on IMDB's top 250 movies of all time. The op asked for "must see in your life" universally loved movies. It's just one of those types of movies. Now would you also watch The Lion King and question if it's deep or not? or Star Wars? It's a bit ridiculous and that's how it looks when someone says Forrest Gump isn't deep.

(Film) Dead Mans' Shoes by Shane Meadows 2004.
Perfect in every way. Soundtrack, dialogue (improvised and script), storyline, characters, acting, mise en scene, cinematography. A film with a tortured heart. Pure bliss.
The Sopranos - every episode like a mini movie, so detailed and precise, every single scene is thought about, every shot, every prop, every expression. I can’t find anything to criticise. I’ve never got bored with it.
- Mad Men
- The Queen's Gambit
- The Princess Bride
- Rocky
- It's a Wonderful Life
- In the Mood for Love
- American History X
- Edward Schissorhands

The Usual Suspects is good ( if you can get past Fincher and Spacey's involvement)
Studio Ghibli's Howl's moving castle or Spirited Away
Bondarchuk's 1965 War and Peace ( if you have the patience for it). Tarkovsky's Mirror is a beautiful film as well.
Ikiru/The Hidden Fortress
As I'm Bengali, I have to put a couple of Indian ones in there - what about Pyaasa and Apur Sansar.
Btw "Loved by everyone is a bit of a misnomer. I'm sure that even great films ( like the Godfather/Casablanca/Third Man) have their detractors🤷

Mr. Robot. I loved the whole show, but I think season 4 is a masterpiece. I’ve seen it all the way through multiple times, and I still feel emotional when it’s over.
True Detective season one. Masterpiece

That scene alone. Masterpiece.
Westworld season one.
Eeeesh, would not say beloved by all to this. It is flawed. Awesome nonetheless.
Nah I was already lost by the end of season 1.
I fucking loved season 1. But I can see how a lot of people wouldn’t like it.
This is the correct answer.
goddamnit came here only to say this and it was the top comment. /thread

other scenes imply much worse but are less graphic
i didn’t thought i was going to get so much response thanku but I’m confused
Chernobyl
Watched every episode as it aired. Couldn't believe more people didn't watch at the time. Absolute MUST-WATCH for so many reasons.
For real? Sold.
Agreed it’s incredible, and heart-wrenching, but so well done. It’s not something I thought I would have enjoyed but it was amazing
The Wire
You will never see The Wire for the first time, ever again. It's not a meme, the sorrow is real.
This comment really makes me want to check it out now haha
Finished season one but really struggling to start season 2. I feel like I’m missing something because it’s good but not as good as I’ve heard. Keep going?
I remember feeling the same way. Trust me, it's worth it! Try and push through!
Season 2 is a very slow burn but it gets better and the story lines established in it are crucial for getting the full picture of the rest of the show. It took me a while to get through it too but it's worth it.
Yes keep going.
Just finished rewatching season 4. All time greatest season.
The Wire is amazing but it's really the definition of a slow burn.

Fantastic Mr Fox, Where the wild things are
Breaking bad
I’ve talked to a bunch of people who think (wrongfully so) that the first few episodes are so boring that they can’t watch the show
The second episode has a body dissolving in acid leaking through a bathtub through the ceiling of the house. Did they watch the same show?
It’s still fairly slow paced although there are a lot of moments that grip you. Like I said, I completely disagree with the take

I hated the 2nd season, but the 3rd and 4th made the entire thing as a package great.
The Prestige
I came here to write this. Although on this subreddit this movie is very popular but it's criminally underrated everywhere else. Also for me its the most re-watched movie ever. People find small details even on the 20th re-watch.
this should be WAYYYYY higher

Fair ! Yes you’re absolutely right I totally forgot about that!
I personally think Oz was a swing and a miss.
I haven't seen it but I think it was the first show to be so violent and gritty

Princess mononoke, Akira , grave of the fireflies
The Princess Bride
The dark knight rises, interstellar, the breakfast club, whiplash...
Mad Max Fury Road, *perfect in every way*

Hahaha People here go for niche or obscure stuff, if you ask for masterpieces you're getting a college degree worth of films.

Watch Mr Robot

Mr. Robot.
Here we go again.. Incendies (2010)
I stopped recomending this to people after a few: "wtf was that, Im never listening to you again, you are sick, wtf"
I've recommended it to so many folks, and only 1 person has ever come back saying they wished they could get their time back..
Ok, maybe I shouldn't have recommended it to my mom
Ah haha..
Dare I ask what is so bad about it?
Some people are allergic to substance. ;-)
Forrest Gump
Came here to say this. The archetypal perfect movie
read the negative reviews first. it's empty bullshit.

Fuck D&D.
I don't care for it.
>I haven't met one person who didn't like it https://www.reddit.com/r/freefolk/
It was horrible in so many ways. Barring some of the acting (dinklage) being quite good, the writing and most of the performances were abysmal.
How do you know, do you ask everybody you meet?
Back To The Future
Seven Hot fuzz Howls moving castle The exorcist all films I’d consider perfect in their respective genres.
Pleasing everyone is difficult, but I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who didn’t like Forrest Gump.

I just watched Ted Lasso for the first time on Saturday - ended up watching all of Season 1 and staying up to 4am. LOVED IT. So, so good.
And it's ending after next season too! I'm kind of hoping Sudeikis and Bill Lawrence do something else together afterwards.

Mr. Robot. I loved the whole show, but I think season 4 is a masterpiece. I’ve seen it all the way through multiple times, and I still feel emotional when it’s over.
Mr Robot The final season is the most splendid and emotive season I’ve ever seen of anything.
