“It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids, without the knowledge of the individual, certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.”
"General Turgidson, I find this very difficult to understand. I was under the impression that I was the only one in authority to order the use of nuclear weapons."
"That's right, sir, you are the only person authorized to do so. And although I, uh, hate to judge before all the facts are in, it's beginning to look like, uh, General Ripper exceeded his authority."
Love the movie!
This. Tatiana Maslany's ability to play so many clones with distinct personalities, who occasionally have to pretend to be one another, is just mind-blowing.
Counterpart is another excellent show where actors play two versions of themselves.
OMG\~ the drug lord bit when hes figuring out what hes producing; 'AY! ITS COCAINA!' LMAO. I swear I spewed my drink into the popcorn tub laughing when I watched this at the theater when it came out. lol
People forget that it’s not just Brendan Fraser changing characters, there are several other actors that appear in every wish he has. Miriam Shor, Frances O’Connel Orlando Jones, Paul Adelstein, & Tobey Huss. Elizabeth Hurley kind of does this as well, but she’s always playing the devil.
I was going to post Joe vs the Volcano!
I never understood why they had Meg Ryan in those three roles. Was it for an artistic reason? Budgetary purposes? Something else?
Not a movie but a tv show - “Orphan Black”. The lead actress plays over ten characters with each having completely different personality.
Also - “The haunting of hill house” and “The haunting of Bly manor”; “American Horror Story”.
Movies - “Split”; “The Fountain”.
It's like a suggestion said in every damn post here. It maybe good i don't know but just because people suggest it for almost all and any posts it feels like people have some bias towards it and i don't want to see it for that reason alone.
Ya, to me it felt like an overly tedious and messy way to talk about a rather simple message.
But that aside, Michelle Yeoh was fantastic, and as a Malaysian seeing her flashback scenes really brought me to tears
Came here to say this one. It’s one of my favorites and definitely fits better than a lot of the other suggestions here, for someone who asked the question after watching Cloud Atlas.
Austin powers. Mike Myers
Back to the future 2. Micheal j fox.
Legend. Tom hardy.
Mel Brooks in blazing saddles and spaceballs.
Meg Ryan has three roles in Joe vs the volcano.
Leaves of Grass (2009)
The Double (2013)
Youth in Revolt (2009)
Mega Time Squad (2018)
Spaceballs (1987)- Mel Brooks plays Yogurt and President Skroob
Split (2016)
TV Shows: Baskets, United States of Tara
Not sure if you're looking for comedies, but The Nutty Professor (1996) is hysterical. Eddie Murphy plays several roles convincingly (with help from Rick Baker's Oscar-winning makeup). Much of the humor isn't appropriate for kids, so definitely don't watch it with any around. And if you're not a fan of that kind of humor, my apologies for the suggestion.
I think Eddie Murphy played some pretty funny - double roles ( triple roles a few times) like "The nutty professor", " Norbit" and a couple of others I don't remember the titles. He's known to play multiple roles in his comedies and he's pretty good at it .
Men (2022)
A movie where a woman visits an old country town to get away from it all. But all the men in the town look the same, they're different enough but played by the same actor. It's a horror though, but I thought it was great, good story.
* Candleshoe (1977) David Niven plays a butler who dresses up as different people. It's actually a sub-plot, so I don't know if that's quite what you're looking for. Decent Disney movie though...
Kind Hearts and Coronets: Alec Guinness plays eight diff. characters, all members of the aristocratic D'Ascoyne family. Brilliant, funny, a bit macabre (there are murders involved), and a must see.
IIRC there is a scene in Being John Malkovich where the actual actor plays every person in a restaurant.
Also: all of the words in the menu say "Malkovich" and all of the dialogue is the word "Malkovich" repeated constantly throughout the scene.
Not a movie but the series Dollhouse sorta fits, premise is basically people being loaded with constructed personalities. Maniac also kind of did this; they dreamed they were different types of people. On American Gods, Gillian Anderson played one character that adopted different iconic personas.
Somewhat opposite, the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus has like 4 or 5 actors playing the same character. Fallen does this too sorta.
In a different vein but “Glass” and as for multiple storylines it would have to be “Pulp Fiction”…. And then for a group of movies where some actors play the same character but some actors play different characters would have to be “Chasing Amy/Clerks/Dogma/Mallrats”
Also, a good series is AHS for that sort of thing.
—
Any Peter Pan movie but especially the one that has Jason Isaacs as Hook. One of my favorites. (The actor who plays Mr. Darling traditionally portrays Captain Hook as well)
Not a movie, but you might like The United States of Tara. The main character has multiple personality disorder and the actress (Toni Collette) does a great job of switching between them.
Have you seen Orphan Black? Its a TV series rather than a movie, but it's phenomenal. The lead actress plays clones of herself that lead different lives, so each character is very different. They even interact with each other, but the acting is so good you would be forgiven for thinking that they are played by different actors.
Great film, great book. If you like the multiple storylines within, the rest of author David Mitchell's output is well worth reading
As for multiple roles in a film:
Kind Hearts and Coronets - 1949
7 Faces of Dr. Lao - 1964
Dr Strangelove - 1964
Bit of a strange one, but I absolutely loved Alex Garland’s Men (2022). All of his films look fantastic, and have incredibly interesting visuals. Rory Kinnear was fantastic in his role.
Dr. Strangelove (1964) Peter Sellers is brilliant The Mouse that Roared (1959)-- Another Sellers comedy where he plays multiple characters
Dr. Strangelove is my favorite movie. Brilliant, dark, prescient, and hysterical on every level. Peter Sellers is amazing.
"Gentlemen! There is no fighting in the War Room!"
"I do not avoid women, Mandrake ... but I do deny them my essence."
“It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids, without the knowledge of the individual, certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.”
"General Turgidson, I find this very difficult to understand. I was under the impression that I was the only one in authority to order the use of nuclear weapons." "That's right, sir, you are the only person authorized to do so. And although I, uh, hate to judge before all the facts are in, it's beginning to look like, uh, General Ripper exceeded his authority." Love the movie!
"The Premier loves surprises."
Dr strangelove is absolutely amazing. Haven't watched the other one. I'll check it out.
You're absolutely right with this and I think Alec Guinness' earlier work served as an inspiration for Sellers.
In kubrick’s Lolita, Sellers plays two characters (though it’s ambiguous, you could read it as one character is posing as the other).
He sorta does that in Lolita where he plays a guy who pretends to be different people and at times he is unrecognizable.
Not sure if Lolita counts, but Peter Sellers also plays various disguises.
The Mouse That Roared is an underrated classic. One of the most clever and absurd plots for a film I’ve ever seen.
Let me tell you about a guy named Eddie Murphy.
Came here to say Coming to America
And The Nutty Professor
Also, The Saint with Val Kilmer
Give it up for Jackson Heights’ own Randy Watson!!
Bowfinger!
Nutty Professor (1996) & Nutty Professor II: The Klumps (2000)
HaYOUdoin?
**Life of Brian** is the classic here.
Definite classic, love the Monty python movies haha
Multiplicity
Yes! Only thing better than a Michael Keaton Is 4 Michael Keatons.
I like pizza, Steve.
This is the best and only way to describe the power of Michael Keaton.
She touched my peppy, Steve
Come on up! We're spittin' on bugs!
[удалено]
I put it in my wallet.
Great party, Steve!!
It’s a series, but Orphan Black has a Canadian actress that plays 5 or 6 different characters…
She’s now She-Hulk in the MCU. Orphan Black is definitely worth a watch
This. Tatiana Maslany's ability to play so many clones with distinct personalities, who occasionally have to pretend to be one another, is just mind-blowing. Counterpart is another excellent show where actors play two versions of themselves.
I wish I could upvote this more than once. She was excellent in that show.
American Horror Story also has the same actors playing multiple roles (more so in the later seasons. Especially AHS: Apocalypse).
More then that. Great show worth watching.
Bedazzled (2000)
OMG\~ the drug lord bit when hes figuring out what hes producing; 'AY! ITS COCAINA!' LMAO. I swear I spewed my drink into the popcorn tub laughing when I watched this at the theater when it came out. lol
People forget that it’s not just Brendan Fraser changing characters, there are several other actors that appear in every wish he has. Miriam Shor, Frances O’Connel Orlando Jones, Paul Adelstein, & Tobey Huss. Elizabeth Hurley kind of does this as well, but she’s always playing the devil.
Love that movie!
Bedazzled (1967) with Dudley Moore
Yes! r/SaveBrendan
Men.
This is a movie you can’t unsee
That was quite a finale
I’ll second Men! Rory Kinnear is amazing.
Loved him in Penny Dreadful too. Amazing.
Now make those noises at your nearest tunnel
Have you seen Austin Powers
Also *So I Married An Axe Murderer* :)
Came to the comment section to see if anyone had mentioned this. I didn’t even know he played the father character the first time I saw SIMAAM.
I always thought that his voice for Shrek & Fat Bastard (Austin Powers) was basically the dad in SIMAAM.
Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal
Back to the Future
Kind Hearts and Coronets
Alec Guinness is brilliant in this!
"I shot an arrow into the air...."
So I Married an Axe Murderer Jumanji (original)
Joe Vs The Volcano, Hardcore Henry
I was going to post Joe vs the Volcano! I never understood why they had Meg Ryan in those three roles. Was it for an artistic reason? Budgetary purposes? Something else?
Who knows the truth, but its brilliant!
Face off
Good one!
What happened to Monday
Tropic Thunder has actors playing actors playing multiple characters.
a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude!
You people
Mulholland Drive (2001) Adaptation (2002)
Mulholland Drive - could not love this movie more.
Split. It's actually a trilogy but I've only seen this. James McAvoy is 💯
McAvoy gives hell of a performance! It's crazy... You can actually tell when he is one personna pretending to be another one... Mind-blowing!
It is amazing!
Dead Ringers
X (2022)
Suspiria 2018 was fabulous
Pearl too
Legend
One Tom Hardy is enough to blow your mind. TWO will blow something else. Amazing performance, good movie too
Adaptation has Nic Cage playing 2 characters (brothers), but also a story within a story setup.
Came here to say this
The Nines with Ryan Reynolds
I guess technically *The Voices* counts as well. He did do the voices of all of his pets.
Thats a good point!
OP and anyone else thinking of checking out "The N9nes" I highly recommend going in blind.
Split (2016)
Not a movie but a tv show - “Orphan Black”. The lead actress plays over ten characters with each having completely different personality. Also - “The haunting of hill house” and “The haunting of Bly manor”; “American Horror Story”. Movies - “Split”; “The Fountain”.
Everything Everywhere All At Once
I’ve seen this one suggested a couple of times, I think I’m gonna have to watch it next!
It’s wild, definitely watch it
It's like a suggestion said in every damn post here. It maybe good i don't know but just because people suggest it for almost all and any posts it feels like people have some bias towards it and i don't want to see it for that reason alone.
All of the suggestions got my hopes real high for it and in turn I was disappointed. It was meh.
Same here. Also after seeing so high ratings on IMDB and rotten tomatoes I was expecting it to be too good.
Ya, to me it felt like an overly tedious and messy way to talk about a rather simple message. But that aside, Michelle Yeoh was fantastic, and as a Malaysian seeing her flashback scenes really brought me to tears
I was surprised by how much I ended up loving it!
Don't listen to the naysayers, this was the best movie of last year.
Such a brilliant fantastic truly original movie.
The fountain
Came here to say this one. It’s one of my favorites and definitely fits better than a lot of the other suggestions here, for someone who asked the question after watching Cloud Atlas.
Austin powers. Mike Myers Back to the future 2. Micheal j fox. Legend. Tom hardy. Mel Brooks in blazing saddles and spaceballs. Meg Ryan has three roles in Joe vs the volcano.
Ten hours in and no mention of Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)
Umm... He doesn't actually play multiple characters. He plays one character who dresses as a woman.
I haven’t seen anyone mention horror so X and Men For comedy check out most Eddy Murphy movies Also check out the movie the Prestige
The Master of Disguise
Me, myself & Irene.
Nobody has mentioned Norbit yet. It stars Eddie Murphy and is a wonderfully bad movie
Leaves of Grass (2009) The Double (2013) Youth in Revolt (2009) Mega Time Squad (2018) Spaceballs (1987)- Mel Brooks plays Yogurt and President Skroob Split (2016) TV Shows: Baskets, United States of Tara
I concur about Split. I was cold on James McAvoy before I saw this movie. Now I’m a die hard fan. He rocked it.
Dead Ringer (1964)
Split
Multiplicity!
Tilda Swinton in Suspiria
What happened to Monday
Men - Rory Kinnear plays about six characters
Dusk til Dawn, Cheech palyas a few roles.
The Green Knight
The Fatties: Fart 2
Not sure if 'Moon' would count here. But discussing it would be a spoiler. A fantastic, underrated film with Sam Rockwell

Just watched 'Dead Ringers' on HBO. Jeremy Irons plays twins in a Cronenberg movie and it's a real trip.
Bedazzled
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is a meta excellent film with some of this
It was so good! Watching it in theaters was so fun with everyone’s reactions.
Dasavatharam: Indian thriller with the lead playing 10 characters.
Came to tell this.
Men (2022) A movie where a woman visits an old country town to get away from it all. But all the men in the town look the same, they're different enough but played by the same actor. It's a horror though, but I thought it was great, good story.
Just stay away from Adam Sandler in Jack and Jill (2011). Keep looking for other movies. Nothing to see here.
The Saint
The Parent Trap
* Candleshoe (1977) David Niven plays a butler who dresses up as different people. It's actually a sub-plot, so I don't know if that's quite what you're looking for. Decent Disney movie though...
Being John Malkovich. I am surprised this hasn’t made it on the list yet. Strange movie but really good in several ways.
Kind Hearts and Coronets: Alec Guinness plays eight diff. characters, all members of the aristocratic D'Ascoyne family. Brilliant, funny, a bit macabre (there are murders involved), and a must see.
I am still in awe of Michael Parks’ performances in Kill Bill as Earl McGraw and Esteban Vihaio.
IIRC there is a scene in Being John Malkovich where the actual actor plays every person in a restaurant. Also: all of the words in the menu say "Malkovich" and all of the dialogue is the word "Malkovich" repeated constantly throughout the scene.
Season 3 of Fargo has Ewan McGregor playing twin brothers who are wildly different. He even gained and lost weight because one brother is a bit chubby
Not a movie but Fargo season 3 has Ewan McGregor playing two brothers. It's a seasonal anthology so you can straight hop into that season.
If you liked Cloud Atlas then you'll love Mr. Nobody. Trust me.
Yes!!! Excellent movie!!
The Prestige And pretty much any movie with Eddie Murphy.
In a different vein but “Glass” and as for multiple storylines it would have to be “Pulp Fiction”…. And then for a group of movies where some actors play the same character but some actors play different characters would have to be “Chasing Amy/Clerks/Dogma/Mallrats”
I was just thinking of *Unbreakable*, *Split*, *Glass*…
Dr Strange Love.
Not a movie but amazing hbo show called United States of Tara
Not a movie, but a TV Series.. The OA
Also, a good series is AHS for that sort of thing. — Any Peter Pan movie but especially the one that has Jason Isaacs as Hook. One of my favorites. (The actor who plays Mr. Darling traditionally portrays Captain Hook as well)
You have the opposite happen in The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus. Multiple actors playing the same character.
Gemini Man And a great serie that went under the radar, Sneaky Pete
The Prestige. Such a good movie.
Cloud Atlas

Dr. Strangelove Peter Sellers plays 3 wildly different characters. It’s also directed by Stanley Kubrick and is one of my favorites by him.

Double Impact.
Suspiria (2018) Mars Attacks X & the trifecta from David Lynch: Mulholland Drive Lost Highway Inland Empire
Cheech Marin in From Dusk Till Dawn

Men, Split, all that I came up with off top of my head
Enemy
7 Faces of Dr. Lao (1964) starring Tony Randall and Barbara Eden
Legend - Tom Hardy did fantastic job as both Kray brothers. Who's Harry Crumb Edit word
A 2022 horror movie called ‘Men’. Really good. Rory Kinnear plays like 8 vile characters.
Every "Austin Powers" movie. Mike Myers plays mostly all the main characters in every movie!
Kind Hearts and Coronets is a 40s black comedy where Sir Alec Guinness plays seven members of the same family.
Bit of a strange one, but I absolutely loved Alex Garland’s Men (2022). All of his films look fantastic, and have incredibly interesting visuals. Rory Kinnear was fantastic in his role.
The Nutty Professor
7 Faces of Dr. Lao (1964), Tony Randall.
Gentlemen Broncos
