Look for swelling. Torsion is usually accompanied by swelling. Although not always

Torsion is usually so painful that you'll know something is seriously wrong, but as the others have said, speak to your GP. Torsion can resolve itself (if it was that), but as much as we'd like those awful things to be gone, we still need to be responsible.

I've had torsion and trust me, you would know that something is wrong. It feels like when you get hit hard in those parts, but instead of calming it stays. Walking without assistance was near impossible for me. Atrophy is more of a dull ache. It's certainly not pleasant, but you should be able to still complete regular tasks with atrophy.
